      Thanks Drew! I think it's under appreciated as well. Just like the 55 Bowman set.

    I happen to love the 1954 Bowman set. I am in the process of putting the set together. To me, it is one of the best sets from the 1950's. Another great video as usual John.

      Thanks David! It's hard for me to rank the 50-54 Bowman sets. There's something to love about all of them for me.

      I agree. I really like the 1950 Bowman set also. What am I saying? I like them all.

    Was kind of surprised at this but tells me that there are reasonable prices for some really great HOF’s in this set. Mantle is my favorite & would love to complete the HOF run someday. Thanks for work on these Top Ten John, really enjoy & appreciate these videos.

      Thanks Doug! Appreciate it! I was a little surprised at how low some of the PSA 6 prices were for some of the hall of famers. They are great looking cards. I was also surprised at how few copies of some of the cards have been graded by PSA. I never took the 54 Bowman set to be lacking in supply so I don't know why more haven't been graded.

    Just picked up a 54 bowman Larry Doby from a local flea market, it was actually my first ever 54 card and wow they look so cool

      Nice! The 54 Bowman set sometimes doesn't get the love that I think it deserves. I like the design of it.

    enjoyed the video as usual John. I don’t know that much about the 54 bowman set, but as I looked over the checklist before watching your video, I had a guess who the top three cards would easily be. I do not have any cards from the set, but do hope to add at least Eddie Mathews to a future playing days run. On a completely unrelated note, you recently joked with me that you owned all of the copies of the 84 topps Wade Boggs, but apparently one has escaped your collection, as I was able to add it finally along with his other second year cards. Thanks again for the fun content!

      Thanks James! I was a little surprised at how cheap some of the cards were even in PSA 6 grades. The Mathews is a really nice looking card. Wait! You mean I missed one out there?! 😂 Congrats on adding one to your collection! 😃

    Thanks for sharing, John. Nice variety of cards making the top 10. I’m thinking that the Williams card has got to be valued right up there or higher than Mantles. My favorite of all the Bowman sets is still the 1953.

    I go back and forth on this set. Not the greatest design but the Mays, Mantle and Williams cards are quite desirable.

    It was the Ted Williams that you picked up at the National this past year, right? You picked out a great one!

      Yep! 😃 I might have overpaid slightly for it, but it has great eye appeal to me for the grade and I love it! 😃

    As I stated as well with the 55 Bowman, the 54s also are much lower cost compared to Topps. Not sure what Topps used for cutting back in the early days but Bowman was ahead of the game when it came to centering. Most of these 54s came decently centered. I have the 54 Mantle and it’s one of my favorite Mantles.

      Yeah I'm not sure why 54 Bowman cards seem to sell for a discount to 54 Topps cards of the same player. It's a beautiful set. I have the Mantle as well, but only in a PSA 1. It certainly has it's flaws, but overall it presents well and was within my budget. I love his smile in the picture.

    Not surprised that you had a roll call if HOFers.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  7 місяців тому

      Most of the cards that are of HOFers tend to be the ones most in demand by collectors so they generally command the higher prices.

    Betca llot of collectors love the 1953 Reese ,
    nice to see Eddie Matthews , Phil Rizzutto , Duke Snider , Yogi ,
    alot different list from seeing Mantle, Mays , Homerun king and Clemente?
    although Mantle and Mays made 3 and 2 they weren't in the top 6 th place , 5th and 4th .
    a different set.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  7 місяців тому

      Yeah, that is a really nice Pee Wee Reese card. The set seems to get lost when talking about the other great Bowman sets of the 50s, but I like the design.

    Interesting that the one pitcher to make the top 10 was Bob Feller and not Whitey Ford. True, Feller was a higher-level HOFer in terms of achievement, but I would have thought Yankees collectors would have shown Whitey more love. They put Rizzuto in the top 10, after all.
    As for Ted Williams, he is a short print as you point out, but by no means impossible if you factor in SGC, which may rival PSA's population when you get back to the early 1950s. As I write this there are 9 copies in PSA and SGC grades on eBay. The last PSA 5 sold for $3500 but with patience you can find a nice one below collector grade. My centered SGC 3, whose main complaint is well-loved corners, cost $1350.

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  Місяць тому

      Was the 54 Bowman Feller's last playing-days card? If so, that might have something to do with it. Also maybe that Feller doesn't have as many playing-days cards as Ford? I picked up a 2.5 Williams at last year's National for $1,400. Might have slightly overpaid for it, but I think it's a great looking copy for a 2.5.

      @@WadeBoggsFan Ah, you should have shown us yours! PSA 5 is not within reach of most collectors, but showing what $1400 can get you would be very useful. You do so many top 10 lists ... Have you ever done The Top 10 Cards In My Collection? If you ever do, don't forget Honorable Mentions!
