Wow! I feel like you explained pretty much everything about lutherie without saying one single word. You also demonstrated the true meaning of "handmade". Well done!
Thanks very much, hopefully people can pick up a tip or two from seeing how its made. A lot more works goes into the details, especially inside, than most people would expect!
Beautifully made instrument with a beautifully shot video of the master builder making it. Then, last but far from least, the sound of the guitar at the end was stunning.
Thanks very much for the kind words! There are a few demo videos of this guitar if you wanted to hear it in more detail, the links are in the description 😀
Thank you! The rosewood tail block was to add a little more weight to help balance against the rosewood neck. Swapping the tuner buttons to ebony helped a lot with this too
Hello, I always watch your videos and it is an excellent job, I have always wanted to have a guitar like that, but my economic possibilities prevent me from doing so since in Venezuela all instruments are very expensive.
Awesome. This was my first view of your work. Beautiful instrument inside and out. It was interesting seeing some of your approach to getting the tone as you are thickening and bracing too, back and sides. Even the sides and neck blank ring. Thanks.
A truly amazing masterpiece. Which means your work is extraordinary. I don't know what else I can say to be able to own one of your works. Peaceful greetings from Indonesia
Great video beginning to end! Thanks for no background music or talk. Visual was plenty! Love the tap tone of the back! Your headstock is excellent, logo excellent and heluva bridge! Why did it get returned??
Thanks very much! It just didn't suit the player that's all, but now that it has been refinished I feel its even improved on the original sound, so hopefully I will have a new demo of it early in the new year
Although i own 2 guitars I dont know anything about guitars let alone to play one but that sound when you tested it sounded so crisp👌🏼 i love the end result and you have all my respect for the love and effort you've put into making that art piece
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have another video called "inside the guitar" which goes over the bracing in a little more detail if you were interested
I am very impressed with your skills, you are very careful and thorough, I really like it and I admit that you are really great♥️♥️♥️♥️ success always to you
This is awesome. I'm a carpenter and was thinking about giving it a try but being a carpenter has nothing to do with something handcrafted like this i know. A ton of work goes into this build I can tell. Subscribed.
What a beautiful job filming and your work is excellent. I have built only one acoustic guitar but have started a second. Your work has helped me to change somethings I was doing. I thank you for that. I do have a question about what the finish was that you were rubbing on. I don’t have spray equipment so I did a French Polish which I learned to do many years ago. If you don’t mind what was the finish , or type of finish, you were rubbing on? Again outstanding work. It gives me hope and something to shoot toward.
Thank you for the video. Very interesting in that I see of what I do in your working...good to know I may be doing something right ! One quick question if you would be so kind ... I see you have sanding drum machine ? is this an Axminster model and if so what are thoughts on it ? Currently looking for one myself and would welcome the information. Thank you. Love your circular carving platform !
That was a great watch! Thank you so much for this greate peace of content. Could you please explain what you brush on at about 19:30 and what is the step with the airbrushing between gluing on the front and back? Working on my first electric guitar right now and would love to be able to build an acoustic one day.
Im applying a layer of shellac finish to the inside of the guitar, this does two things, firstly it helps add a moisture barrier to the raw wood inside which should help prevent any humidity changes from affecting the guitar, and secondly it makes it look nice 😉
My compliments for this piece of Art. Very nice video. Still a question: Did you put the Osmo oil directly on the bare wood? I am asking because i intend to use this product on a classical guitar soundboard. Maybe some advice from your side...? Greetings Wil
Hi there! Yes the oil was applied directly to the wood. I have tried other methods before such as using an epoxy grain filler (I go through that process in the full finish tutorial video on my page.) Depending on the level of build you want, anywhere from 8 to 12 coats will build a sufficient and easy to apply finish for a top. Just apply and wipe off the excess, then repeat!
@@JKM_Guitars Thanks. Very helpful. I saw your other video where you used Epoxy. Very nice video, i must say. But i think i am going to use oil directly on the soundboard. Hope to see more from you. Greetings Wil
There's a few details to take into consideration, the shape has a role, as you can control what portions of the strut are stiffer or more flexible. The weight is another key characteristic, which is why the braces are carved with a thin spine and flat edges, to remove as much weight as possible while maintaining the strength of the strut. If you can get everything light and stiff, then you're on your way to a winner!
There are some details listed in a demo video performed by Gary Lutton, the link should be in the description. But you have reminded me I need to add this guitar to the website, so ill get to that in the next few weeks, thanks!
I'm guessing you mean when assembling the body? For me it's just the beat use of space in my shop, so instead of having a body and mold covered in dozens of heavy clamps, it can just be left in the go bar deck out of the way, and my clamps are available for another job! With enough sticks you can get more than enough pressure to close the box properly while glueing
I don't know what the actual price of Gibson guitar in my country since I don't see them in our local guitar store, but after looking at JKM price on their website and converting it to my country's currency, I think this brand comes close to Gibson price its expensive af😂 sorry I can only afford 50$ guitar but its really a beautiful guitar from the sound and the quality on how you built it everything is top tier🤩
Once the neck is glued on, its easier to tell what all the angles and measurements are for the bridge height etc. And then with the guitar mounted in the neck support jig, I can keep everything stable while doing the fingerboard rsdiusing and fret work. Fretting the neck before attaching may be easier, but you'd need to be more careful with how the fingerboard fits over the soundboard (will it dip or raise) depending on the profile of the top and the neck angle.
@@JKM_Guitars Thats what I expected you to say! I am a proud owner of a custom 12 string jumbo cutaway from UK. I watched the luthier make it way back in 1984. Still sounds absolutely gorgeous. Do you have a 12 string model?
Translated with google, so sorry if it doesn't make sence!
The inside tailblock was made of Indian rosewood, the idea was to help add a little more weight to the end of the instrument to balance the Indian rosewood neck. I've also added brass rods to the tailblock in other builds to further do this
High craftsmanship resulted in a beautiful guitar. Unfortunately didn't hear it's full sound in the video. But why did you choose for a bridge like this? It's quite 'bulky' (might be necessary for it's strength), but a 'normal' bridge and the strings running through the top, is 'slimmer' which would suite the overall looks to my opinion better... On the other hand, the bridge is made with great craftsmanship, so you earn credits for that!
I kept this video to just be the construction, I've links in the description to some demos of it. As for the bridge, I prefer the string through design over the pinned bridges, so it does need to be a little larger to proved enough supports to the ball ends, but its much easier to change strings than a pinned bridge (I also like seeing the coloured ball ends as well!)
@@JKM_Guitars: Well, thank you for your answers. I don't change the strings on my guitar to often, nor do I look at the back side of the bridge so much 😉. Maybe that's the reason I reacted in the first place. Furthermore I don't know how it effects the tone of the guitar, but I assumed you do. Anyway, it is a matter of taste and you made a beautiful guitar (and a nice video too!).

This lovely fella built my guitar. What a treat it was to work with Jake on D and D in Belfast. A true gent and magnificent craftsman.
Thanks very much Paul, I hope you and the guitar have been keeping well!
Just amazing. The birth of an acoustic guitar. What craftsmanship. Beautiful sound. A work of art.
Thank you kindly!

Absolutely fascinating, great watching a true craftsman at work and I picked up a few tips for my amateur builds. Thanks
Glad you found it useful, half of the tips I've learnt are from other makers build videos!
Fantastic build, dude! Awesome work. I enjoyed watching your process.

Excellent ! Congratulations ! Thanks for this sharing.
Not a problem, hopefully I'll be making more like this in future when I have something interesting on the bench!

Please tell me, what is the diameter of the circumference of the rear deck that you use?
When chiseling the wood bracing that goes on the interior, is the shape you are making them what determines how it sounds?

มันเป็นงานที่ยอดเยี่ยมมาก ฝีมือตัวเอง ยังไงก็ดีกว่า😮😮
Nice work ❤ what kind of wood is the neck made of??
Thank you, the neck is made of Indian rosewood 👌
Awesome build.
Did you use the Shaper Origin for the fret slots ?
Yes I did, I also use it for making the logos for the head veneers
What was the coating you applied to the inside perimeter of the guitar front and back prior to glue up on the sides? Lacquer sealer?
It was shellac, just to add an extra layer of moisture proofing on the inside, as well as making the interior look nice 👌

Thanks!

What’s the difference between the back and top sanding board?
They have different radiuses, the top is flatter, and the back is more curved
What kind of wood that you were using for the bottom side inside? is it Ebony?
