Took the family for a month long vacation in the Aegean sea. Awesome time but it took me away from my type of fishing and rod building. Glad to be back. Watching as I build a Med, Mod Fast casting rod for throwing Corkys. Thank you sir.

I love your videos. I have only built 3 rods but have learned so much watching you. I initially took the class in Ovideo but you have some tips I really like. Am I correct you only use the metallized thread on parts of the rod that do not need support?

I have heard that, and it might apply to heavy saltwater rods, but I don't believe that to be true on most rods. I have built hundreds of rods with only metallic thread and have not had a single wrap failure.

Is the sequence in which ypure building this rod normal? I ask because I put together the seat and grips, epoxy them, then move to the hook keeper and guides. Then all the epoxy for threads and ramps at once. Im new though, so Im just trying to understand.

Your sequence is right. But with X-ray blanks, I can save some time this way.

Just wondering your reasoning for not doing this work before wrapping your guides? When I have done these types of reel seats I will epoxy the trim and hook keeper with the hood off then add the hood back on before wrapping the guides. Is this just a time thing since you are doing all the rods at once?

Rod number 2 which I show is completed. Rod 3, the one I was working on, has the guides held on with rubber bands. Wrapping is not done yet.

Good Morning, I really like the channel. I have a couple of questions about North Fork Composites. My first question is, I bought a X ray blank that was on sale at more than 50% off. Is this "Really" a $250.00 blank that is on sale for $112.50? or is this some kind market thing to seem like I'm getting a good deal. I say that because now I bought a blank, out of the same group of blanks that was only $75.00. I have always been of the opinion that if it is to good to be true, then it probably isn't. Also when I ordered the first one it said a 2 to 3 week delivery. I thought that was a little long based on other suppliers I buy from. I emailed them at 18days after I ordered and they basically said it would be another 2 weeks. Is this kind of delivery normal for this company. These rods are for me personally, so the time frame isn't to much of a factor but if it was for a client, this kind of time frame may be a problem. Thanks Billy Russell

They are priced comparable to other manufacturers' blanks of the same quality, in my opinion. Their shipping is slow, they have many sales throughout the year, and their customer service is a bit lacking sometimes
This is why I keep a large inventory on hand that I buy in bulk during those sales. I have a customer who is an ex pro and has the financial ability to have any blanks he wants, and he prefers NFC.
For what it's worth, all but two of my personal rods are built on NFC blanks.
      Thanks for the question, Billy.

@fdxcustomrods NFC just hired a new guy for customer service. Ordered their seats and grips in Jan, didn't get them until April with tons of calls and no responses. Couple weeks ago called about another order, guy called back in ten minutes with a response, rec'd order in about a week or two after that, so that's good news. Check out their new grips if you haven't yet. Thanks so much for the videos and tips!

Love the videos. Is your rod shop separated from your house? And if so do you have much problems with bugs? Currently build in my house but have a shop in the back yard that doesnt get used but worried about bugs.

I enclosed and insulated a 13x13 corner of my garage and put the window AC in. No bug issues but I'm in Florida so we spray often. Thanks for watching.
