The Writers Society in my opinion it’s worse, but still mediocre and definitely better than most of what we have nowadays Edit: Caleb Vargas read my latest comment. Bottom line space jam wasn’t fully hand drawn
This is GREAT! Whoever does Daffy's voice nailed it beautifully; sounds very close to Mel Blanc. All the Daffy Duck and Looney Tunes trademarks are here, such as the catch-phrase, "You ain't just whistling Dixie", the wacky wordplay ("I've got an MBA! A PhD! An EKG! A BLT!") the broom-sweeping robot custodian, and the "Beeew-whoop!" sound effect at the end (a trademark of Robert Clampett's Looney Tunes). To anyone who does not love Daffy Duck, I have two words for you: YOU'RE DETHPICABLE!!!!
It was at the time it was on the air, but then people just kinda forgot about it once it ended. I think the fact that it never got a DVD release is part of why.
This scene is sensational in every way! It's too bad they didn't flesh this idea out more and extend it to the entire episode! Perhaps after being turned down for the job, Daffy later appears at Drew's house, or at the bar Drew always goes to. Or maybe Drew's car breaks down, and he has to carpool with Daffy Duck! Maybe Drew could have lost his job after the Daffy interview, and when he applies for another job, Daffy is then interviewing DREW! Or, maybe Drew could need immediate medical attention after the explosion, and when he goes to the emergency room, Daffy Duck is his doctor!
@DantheToonMan that was probably why they didn't, animation is VERY expensive and when you have to add it in to live action like this, it's a real pain when it comes to editing.
@@marcpower4167Not only that, but it’s time consuming. They could have started filming it during one season and it might not have been finished until the next season. Which could potentially lead to continuity problems. For instance, Drew dated a number of women over the course of the series. If his then-current love interest appeared in the episode but they broke up several episodes later, viewers might be thinking “wait a minute. They broke up last season. How come they’re back together again all of a sudden?”
I've always found it funny that DAFFY of all characters is depicted here as having a thing for a lot of color and even believing HIMSELF to be colorful-- WHEN HE'S MOSTLY A SINGLE COLOR!!
This is actually pretty well animated, i wish there was more live action with 2d looney tunes characters like this. since space jam 2 is apparently gonna be a thing ill just have to wait and see how that turns out. joe alaskey did such a good job voicing daffy too.
I remember this scene caught my attention when I was like 6, while I was doing my homework. I was not expecting that at all and I also remember feeling disappointed that Daffy never recurred in the show again
I'm still glad this carries the same tradition of the Looney Tunes set in real life. From who framed Roger Rabbit, to Space Jam, to Back in Action, to this!
i think there’s ways to hit a good balance, this video’s a good example actually, since he’s trying to get a job you can see a conman in him, a cheapskate, the cynical type. This still stayed apparent and evident in his later iterations and at the core, i find to be the main element to his character.
That song at 4:00 is actually "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott. It's an old tune from 1936, and Carl Stalling used it in dozens of his Looney Tunes musical scores, so it fits the scene perfectly. That robot is actually yet another reference - it appeared in "House Hunting Mice", a Hubie and Bertie cartoon from 1947 directed by Chuck Jones.
Actually, Ride Him Bosko was Warner Bros first attempt with combining live action with animation. (Not counting the pilot Bosko the Talk Ink Kid short) True, Bosko himself didn't interact with Rudolph Ising and the other animators at the end of the picture, but they were there nevertheless.
@@marcustrice3246 Well, I'm more of a Road Runner kind of guy, but I made that comment because Daffy was, in fact, a total ass when paired up with Bugs.
There should be an entire television series that takes this - the Roger Rabbit formula of live action with additional animated characters - and goes the whole nine yards with it!
This is probably one of my favorite episodes of The Drew Carey show because of Daffy Duck! Hey what can I say? I like cartoons good thing I'm a cartoonist too I am more than a cartoon fan!
Also "You ain't just whistling Dixie!" or something similar used to be one of Daffy catchphrases back in the day. It was something like this: "That's duck's crazy!" "You ain't just whistlin' Dixie!"
*Joe alaskey was perfect at everything with Daffy except for the whoo hoo... something just sounds off about it. That’s the one thing Eric bauza and Dee Bradley baker are better at than joe.*
I love how the Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones personalities of Daffy are combined in this cold open. 👏
Which is perfect for future Looney Tunes content.
"Well, unless you were a jack ass, then you'd run the place" XD halarious!

I love how no one really bats an eye when Daffy wanders into the workplace.
Also, I really miss Joe Alaskey--he could do a great Daffy Duck.
I remember when Joe Alaskey was on Out of This World. He played Uncle Beano.
At least Eric Bauza voiced Daffy and other characters.
Daffy is at his best when he's nobody's patsy. Good ol' classic Daffy when he's just loony and one step ahead of everyone.
Yes!
Just wait ‘til. Bugs gets here.
I like how they pitched up Joe Alaskey's voice like how they used to do with Mel's Daffy. It makes Joe sound closer to Mel.
That's the thing.... he wasn't pitched up. He did it all on his own.
@@daniexists6 That’s why he was the best Daffy of all time.
