- CARTOON EVOLUTION #2.5 - VOICE OF DAFFY DUCK
Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION videos (specifically the one focusing on the the darn fool duck himself, 'Evolution of DAFFY DUCK Over 82 Years (1937-2019) Explained'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of the character as I compare the voices of all of Bugs' official voice actors over time, including the legendary Mel Blanc, Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson, Frank Gorshin, Dee Bradley Baker, Joe Alaskey, Samuel Vincent, Jeff Bennett, Charlie Schlatter and Eric Bauza.
Here's my look at Daffy Duck's Voice Through the Years!

Yes, small mistake on the Mel Blanc title-card, it should read "1937 - 1988"
Make the evolution of Tom and Jerry
Or better

@@pantherman691 Yes, I will get to them all soon.
Make tom and Jerry please do it i like your videos and I really want to see them
As I said, I will get to them all soon. Patience is key! Thank you :)
Can You Do A evolution of Felix The cat? Please And Maybe A Shoutout? Since I Thought of this?
Joe Alaskey"s Daffy was right up there with Mel Blanc!
correct.
Joe was my favourite Daffy voice post Mel Blanc. RIP Joe
@@IsitheScribe As was Jeff Bergmon, he had the best overall close to the Mel Blanc.
Bergman’s Daffy is my favorite. After Tiny Toons, Alaskey’s Daffy has always sounded exactly like Plucky, mainly because of the pitch.
Yup, and the same holds true for his Melvin the Martin. Probably helps that he got that really great Duck Dodgers cartoon to voice both in.
Hearing Blanc's voice in the later years, Daffy sound a lot like Sylvester.
@Spongebob Squarepants Um no, he continued voicing till he passed away.
@@mechajay3358 I agree, both voice for Sylvester and Daffy ended up the same, still it was the original for both.
Mel’s Daffy was Sylvester’s voice pitched up in post productions, he would use his Sylvester voice when he recorded for Daffy and the audio engineers sped it up to make it sound more high pitched.
Some of the later Looney Tunes projects that Mel Blanc worked on were done on the cheap, and there apparently wasn't space in the budget for post-production on the voice acting. So in Daffy Duck's Quackbusters, you're hearing what Blanc's Daffy and Porky voices actually sounded like before they pitched him up.
@@jbwarner8626 Night of the Living Duck from Quackbusters is actually my favorite performance of Daffy from Mel Blanc.
My Ranked of Daffy Voices:
1. Mel Blanc (Personal Favorite)
2. Jeff Bergman (Personal Favorite)
3. Dee Bradley Baker (Personal Favorite)
4. Eric Bauza (Best Ever/Personal Favorite)
5. Joe Alaskey (Awesome/Personal Favorite)
6. Greg Burson (Very good)
7. Frank Gorshin (Good)
8. Samuel Vincent (Not that bad)
9. Jeff Bennett
10. Charlie Schlatter
That all for now Woo goo woo Hoo Woo Hoo Woo hoo Woo Hoo!!!!!
Note: are You going to make Evolution of Tom and jerry Soon
@Khabitch Nutmagomedov Michael Jackson?!!! You mean Michael Jordan!!
Uhm... Jeff Bennett was much better than that in my opinion. Better than Dee and possibly even Jeff Bergman.
6:04 sounds like they forgot to speed up Daffy's voice. And he does sound a lot more like Sylvester.
They did actually sped up Daffy's voice, just not enough.
Abdullahi Bouraleh proof? I’ve heard Mel do it live and it sounded the same if not better than that.
Yup absolutely sounds. Like Sylvester
Why the heck is my old comment so argumentative sheesh lmao sorry bout that
Wow, I'm a bit surprised how often Daffy's actor has shifted over the years. I'm also surprised how good Erica Bauza sounds as Daffy, hopefully he sticks to the role for awhile
Yeah Eric sounds most on point with early Daffy imo.
I just hope they tone down is craziness from New Looney Tunes. It was just annoying to me and Dee Bradley Baker just didn't sound right to me.
Daffy’s voice on very early shorts sounds so cute 😊
He's a silly little duck isn't he😊
Eric Bauza is great, too!
Something I realised that Bugs and Daffy both had the same voice actors most of the time.
Same with most Looney Tunes characters
Holy crap, a lot of these guys capture Mel's performance very well and some even improve on it!
I'll always love Joe Alaskey as Bugs and Daffy, he was important to me in my childhood right next to Mel Blanc.
When he died I felt really depressed, he meant that much to me.
I'm pleased to say that we have tons of great voices for Daffy like Eric Bauza, Dee Bradley Baker and surprisingly Jeff Bennett.
*also fun fact, you want to know why Mel sounds weird compared to his performances in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Daffy Duck's Quackbusters? Here's the secret, he was always pitched in the old cartoons and in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Whenever he did Daffy he did the impression in his normal voice which in turn is how he voiced Sylvester the Cat, they would pitch it up to a certain level where it was perfect.
The people behind the effects of Roger Rabbit knew how to make the elderly Mel Blanc sound youthful compared to WB really screwing up royally since they didn't pitch him at all.
If you want to find out more there's a UA-cam channel called Ferris Wheelhouse with Trevor the Self Appointed Looney Tunes Critic, he's a die hard fan of those cartoons. Also little warning, he absolutely hates Space Jam*
Always here to boost my happiness when I’m down, thank you.
Thank *you* for watching!
Dave Lee Down Under can you get any more amazing? :)
All of these voice artists voiced Daffy brilliantly, but my current faves are Dee Bradley Baker and Eric Bauza, mainly because both are able to capture Mel's early performances when Daffy was truly woo-hoo mental.
Same here
_"Sufferin Succotash"_
Blanc, Bergman, and Alalsky will forever be the Trinity of Daffy's voice. Though Dee Bradley Baker did a solid job of him in Space Jam and who can never say that Daffy was once voiced by _The Riddler._ I can't wait to hear Bauza's turn as the him. #SorryForTheSpit
My favorites for Daffy's voice are Mel Blanc and Joe Alaskey.
Jeff Bergman, and Dee Bradley Baker are. great, too!
First yes second no.
@@caseysmith544 Different strokes, I guess.
@@vincentfranklin17 Like the TV show from the 1970's-1980's?
Well quite a few of these guys are pretty worthy successors, but I understand what you're saying though. No one will ever top him.
MEL BLANC
Dee Baker very much brought back to wacky Daffy.
Unrelated: Space Jam has a lot of fans, but I think Looney Tunes: Back in Action is actually more underrated. If nothing else, the voice talent alone was incredible.
You are speaking facts
A lot of these actors are good at recapturing Blanc’s voice. Dee Baker is one of my favorite voice actors of all time, I just feel like he was one of the less accurate to the standard modern voice. Though his did sound more like the early darn fool duck kind of voice. Mostly because of the higher pitch he uses
10:00 this is what happens when a child gets angry after learning a bad word
Joe Alaskey is my favourite after Mel Blanc, his Daffy is on point.
Joe Alaskey is the second best voice for Daffy.
Wow....to think it was DBB portraying Daffy in SPACE JAM of all things! Hearing it, it makes sense now, but wow. What CAN'T that guy do???
Jeff Bergman is definitely a unique version and very similar to the original. That’s the one I really enjoy hearing. But Mel Blanc is the true legend.
I always loved Daffy. He's my favorite Looney Tune. I might have a thing for ducks since Donald is my favorite Disney character (pre Marvel/Disney of course).
I really like Jeff Bergman’s voice of Daffy.
Me too
In the looney tunes show
@@daffyducklovestowooohoo4255 Yes and also Tiny Toon Adventures
Easily both enjoyed Mel Blanc and Joe Alaskey's take on Daffy Duck, they were my favorites of Daffy Duck but I also enjoyed Jeff Bergman, Dee Bradley Baker and very soon Eric Bauza's take on the zany Duck.
Top 5 voices for Daffy Duck:
1. Mel Blanc
2. Joe Alaskey
3. Eric Bauza (Although his voice of the character in the forthcoming Looney Tunes series hasn't come out, from the videos in the recording session he sounds very close to Blanc's and Alaskey's take on Daffy Duck)
4. Jeff Bergman
5. Dee Bradley Baker
i’ve gotta say. daffy duck has got to have the most consistently accurate but different voice actors i’ve ever seen
5:58, that's quite the difference, sounds more like silvester i think.
Spongebob Squarepants Mel Blanc wasn’t fired.
Daffy's voice has always been a pitched up version of his Sylvester voice.
@Spongebob Squarepants Nope. He kept voicing them all up until his death.
It actually starts at 6:00, and Sylvester should've been on the phone
Acorn9999 / EAS Scenario Fan Why does daffy sound like Sylvester
Eric has potential to be the next Mel Blanc if he keeps up his performances. That said he's the 4th best Daffy voice right now behind Mel, Joe, and Dee. Jeff gets 5th.
For me Eric is the 2nd best
Mel Blanc, Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman, and Eric Bauza are my favorites
Mel Blanc and Joe Alaskey are my favorites! The rest aren't bad though.
Joe Alaskey's my favorite Daffy voice.
Blanc will always be THE voice for Daffy but Alaskey is my personal favorite. He was taken from us too soon, Rest in Piece.
Mel Blanc was the best voice actor for Daffy. No other voice actor will ever replace him!
Jeff is better bitch
Jk but i like jeffs voices better it just fits idk
Jeff & joe 🤷🏾♀️
But mel definitely the goat
Joe is the best since mel
I know that DToons crossover where Daffy says "You're Despicable" to Gru from Despicable Me.
Mel Blanc
Eric Bauza for his closeness to Mel Blanc’s
Joe Alaskey for his personality
Dee Bradley Baker for his wackiness
Fifth clip in when Daffy's white bands turn dark, Mel Blanc actually put more of a Bugs voice on, I think.
After Mel Blanc, my favourite is Eric Bauza. I think he was pretty much spot on.
One my favorite ducks Mel and Eric as well Joe my favorite voices
Joe is my favorite of the post-Blanc Daffy actors. Also my favorite of the post-Blanc Sylvester VAs. I especially like how he got his start in the greater Looney Tunes oeuvre playing the younger counterpart character Plucky Duck before the original. Jeff's also an excellent Daffy in his own right.
Of course, there's also that one time Billy West performed Daffy. It's like for one line in an episode of Histeria!, so it's easy to miss. He was already a cast member, so giving a character one line would naturally go to whoever they had in the recording studio that day.
S
You deserve more popularity for your efforts.
Thank you!
Joe is honestly my personal favorite I grew up with him on Duck Dodgers. Mel is 2nd he's a Classic. I wouldn't pick Jeff for Daffy nowadays Though I gotta say It's really impressive how he sounded exactly like Mel the first few times he portrayed him.
Danger Duck was voiced by Jason Marsden
Joe Alaskey is probably my favorite after Mel. So much personality and he naturally nails the voice without having to have it pitched up.
Not into Jeff Bennet or Frank Gorshin's at all (it was only one short each, so it's not a big whoop). Jeff was fine in the early 90s, but I wasn't crazy about his voices for TLTS.
Gotta go with Mel Blanc's Daffy.
Wow Eric Bauza is really good!
Love these videos! Great editing and choice of examples for each voice.
The upped pitch on Dee Bradley Baker's performances makes him sound almost like Weird Al Yankovic.
I like Eric Bauza Jeff Bergman and Dee Baker’s Daffy voices also Sam Vincent is pretty underrated
Not trying to brag or anything but I can sound like Rodger rabbit and the original Daffy Duck
**cough**
Mel Blanc was the greatest voice actor in history
Thanks Dave for the video! And now ladies and gentlemen...I present you Daffy..Good to his mother...Duck!
Wow Frank Gorshin actually does a good impression of the original Daffy Duck. Him and Joe Alaskey both.
When does Frank appear? Apparently I missed it.
@@orinanime He's one of the 90s Daffys.
@@logon900 yup. Thanks. I checked again. Superior Duck.
Bergman and Alaskey were my second favorites. Gorshin did a great job in that clip. I’ve never seen it before.
10:49 The Bakery Guy LOOKS like Jeff Bergman. Coincidence??
Dee Bradley Baker is A pretty good daffy
6:00-6:18 That sounded like Sylvester
His Daffy was essentially the same as Sylvester, but sped up. Seems like they forgot to do it on this project.
Damn, Eric sounds like he’s gonna he amazing, very similar to Joe
He sounds like a mix of Mel Blanc and Joe Alaskey
"Are you crazy?"
"Legally? No. There's not a word for my condition."
Man, makes me miss the old Duck Dodgers cartoon series. Kinda wish they would continue it.
Roni ☺ 😂😂😂😂😂
“Ain’t I some cutie? I think I’ll do it again!”
I love Mel Blanc and Jeff Bergman voicing Daffy
In hindsight I actually think Jeff Bergman’s voice for Daffy is better than his voice for Bugs. Plus as good as Joe Alaskey is he adds this weird tone/accent to Daffy’s voice which extremely obnoxious to me.
Mel Blanc
Joe Alaskey
Dee Baker
Eric Bauza are my favourites Eric followed me on Twitter
Bauzilla
6:00 I believe Daffy sounded like that because they didn't high-pitch Blanc's voice for some reason 🤔
I should be doing school work but instead I'm watching a video about my favorite Looney tune.
8:19 Very funny lets all laugh at the duck
I'd say Eric Bauza is right next to Mel Blanc! He doesn't sound exactly like him, but it's Eric's own take on it that makes it the best in my opinion.
@gaming guy he’s Canadian and Filipino
Honestly I agree, a lot of people say he sounds spot on to Mel Blanc which I’m now tending to disagree with, but he’s got the character down Pat and he really nails the overall personality and sheer daffy character traits in his performance which is extremely important, so I am quite fond of his take on the Duck
Woo hoo woo hoo woo hoo woo hoo woo hoo woo hoo whoo hoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe Alaskey was probably my favorite and always will be. 😄😄❤❤❤ Mel Blanc is still phenomenal too. 😉😁😁😁
This is great! I only wish you would have included a clip of The High And The Flighty. Two of my granddaughters think I look like the Daffy Duck from that episode!
Also, Jason Marsden voiced Danger Duck, not CHarlie Schlatter.
This is becoming one of my top 3 UA-cam channels.
Thank you!
Daffy was always my favorite. Mel and Joe are who i think of when I imagine Daffy. It really saddened me when Joe passed away, but I straight up recall getting teary eyed when I heard Eric's daffy in the Space Jam 2 trailer
All these voice actors did so great by recapturing Mel blanc's voice for daffy. I can barely see the difference it's amazing!
Duck Season FIRE!
Wow both Duck Busters and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? were made around the same time but Blanc's Daffy voice in both appearances are different.
His voice was pitched up in Who framed Roger Rabbit. To where it sounded like how he did the voices back in the 40's & 50's. And that goes for all the characters he voiced in that movie.
I love dee bradley baker’s daffy SO much
It’s like it’s only me 😭 his daffy is underrated man
riicefields i agree, it’s unique to him and he’s my favorite voice actor, he really is great :)
You knew mel was legendary when he has both his characters try to sound like each other
Dude, you made an error with Mel Blanc. it should say 1937-88, not 1967-88
I know.
Attack Of The Drones(2004) why does the other seated character look like Aron Ra? LOL
"Yoiks and away!' THUD. "Yoiks and away." THUD. "Yoiks..and...away. THUD "Yioks and " THUD
I love the voice of Daffy duck.
Nice video.
For bugs, Porky, Elmer and Daffy There's a robot chicken short.
No one will top Mel Blanc but Eric Bauza as Daffy is my favorite and the best post Blanc voice of Daffy
Agreed
I LOVE the early Daffy Duck when he was actually...um, Daffy! Watching this video though is very neat to hear the voice evolve and his personality. It's like he grew up and matured from his younger wacky self.
Wasn't Danger Duck voiced by Jason Marsden?
Yeah
Mel Blanc is awesome
So many great takes, following up Mel's legendary performances. Joe Alaskey will always be my second favorite. No one can hold a candle to them, Bauza not yet accounted for of course. I'm awaiting a proper short of his to fully judge, but for now I think he could be potentially just as amazing!! So glad Bergman is not in the role anymore though. 90's was good, but these days... hard pass on any of his work as him. Just doesn't work for me.
I like older Daffy when he was a silly little duck 🦆
In hindsight I actually think Jeff Bergman’s voice for Daffy is better than his voice for Bugs. Plus as good as Joe Alaskey is he adds this weird tone/accent to Daffy’s voice which extremely obnoxious to me.
Top 3 Best
1. Mel Blanc
2. Jeff Bergman
3. Joe Alaskey
With Dee Bradley Baker I legit can’t tell if he’s been sped up or if he can just naturally speak that high.
Daffy's best voice is Mel Blanc due to his 60s and 80s output. The Daffy and Speedy shorts and Night of the Living Duck being standouts.
Joe Alaskey and Jeff Bennett are a near perfect 2nd and 3rd place.
What about the singing voice? Who did the singing voice of Daffy duck in some sort of monster movie?
Mel Tormé in Night of the Living Duck. Doesn't exactly count as it's technically not a 'Donald voice.'
Regardless, I purposely left it out because I have to be very careful with music, it's an almost immediate copyright strike.
My favorite Daffy Voices:
Bronze: Dee Bradley Baker & Jeff Bergman
Silver: Eric Bauza
Gold: The Late Joe Alasky
Gold is mel
why you use parody versions in your videos
Billy West voiced daffy duck
I feel bad for anyone that attempts to step into the voices that Mel created, it's no small feat and they can't be recreated easily.
Except the fact that none of the people here are that bad. Their portrayals of Daffy were actually good in their own way. I'm sure you can't do better.
Daffy was also voiced by Billy West in histeria
