Your method to dry & buff after cleaning is the same one I apply for all surfaces. Yes when wiping down walls or showers or sinks or counters (and even cars haha), I always have dry rags or towels to dry and buff. It makes a difference!
Widow cleaners are even a bigger joke. To make your own, 4 or 5 drops, liquid dish soap, fill bottle about 1/2 way with cold water, as this doesn't create suds, and shake until mixed.. Add about 2 capfuls of regular un-scented ammonia (this is twice the amount you get from even the best brands available) and fill the bottle to the top. Give it a couple more shakes and you're done, And unless you let the bottle sit unused for a couple of years, there's no need to ever shake it again. FWIW, NONE of the measurements need to be exact as long as you're close and the cheapest dish soap you can find work well, though you you may need to add a couple or so more drops.
I am happy for you. I was excited when I got mine also! That being said, If you can.. I would exchange it for the fingerprint free one if it's in your budget. Unless you like cleaning. This is a pain. I wish I would have pushed harder for it when we got ours. The hubby said it would be fine. Yea.. no. Never again! 😂

Agreed! I'm a housekeeper (of 20 years) and stainless looks GREAT when you can get it clean but I do NOT enjoy cleaning it. Tried so many things. What he says makes a TON of sense. Midwest Magic Cleaners suggests a very fine microfiber cloth for your final wipe down.
A few months ago, I started using 1Tbsp dish soap per 2 cups water for my stainless steel (and a few other cleaners) over other more specific cleaners. It's been a huge night and day difference since then. It's faster and never streaks!

i always have a spray bottle with vinegar and distilled water for cleaning glass. I usually use it on my stainless steel appliances as well. Hope that is ok! So far I don't see any damage and they look good after cleaning
The only thing that vinegar does is make the rag you dry with smell. The detergent is a wetting agent that makes the water wetter by breaking down the surface tension of the water molecule allowing it to penetrate the dust and dirt better allowing for better cleaning.
Okay. All good suggestions. One question about the last tip. Using the Barkeepers soft cleaner, do you recommend a wipe with the water and dish soap spray? Do you prefer to use the Barkeeper soft cleanser and then wipe dry? I am wondering if there is any reside left.

I clean a house that has a huge stainless steel fridge, and any streaks show up so obviously. I have been using Dawn Powerwash and a dry microfiber. It works the best so far, but I will try this because I am still not super pleased with it.
@@supergran1702 Dawn detergent is a dish detergent with heavy duty grease remover for restaurant kitchens that have a LOT of greasy pots and pans. The average home owner doesn't need all that power in daily use. What I do is mix 2/3rd of even the cheapest no name brand with 1/3rd regular Dawn, it's a LOT cheaper and you end up with the same results when you're finished.

@@rosej9686 Wash by hand with straight Dawn dish detergent. It's has a grease remover in it, unlike laundry detergents. Wash by hand, because the suds it produces wreaks havoc on a washing machine and after thorough rinsing, it's safe to throw in your dryer to finish.
If it’s not looking sleek after a clean, use a Norwegian environment cloth. It makes my stainless, windows etc super bright. It will even clean those windows that have never been able to be cleaned. I like your dish soap strategy as a beginning

I simply take the burner grates off and whenever I clean my oven, I spray them too, then afterwards I run them through the dishwasher with my pots and pans. This also woks for the reflectors if they're removable. And for those that don't have a dishwasher, the same method works with hand washing. I wash them afterwards, because this guarantees that any possible remaining oven cleaner is removed and that no possible contaminates go into either my food or up into my nose.

Love the look of stainless but HATE the high maintenance of it. Planning on replacing our stainless appliances soon with old school white. Also switching to glass top range as a gas stove is too high maintenance as well.

Then wipe away paste and rinse with clean water. For stains on quartz, remove immediately, if possible. If there is a stain mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide with 1 part water. Spray stained area and wipe with microfiber cloth Then dry with another microfiber cloth. Always wipe quartz surfaces dry to prevent streaks.
I use Easy Erasers to clean mine very soft surface on them won't scratch at all and cleans well. Very cheap to buy at many discount stores, sold in packs of 3 mostly.

I use the magic Jude cloth. Been using them for years ever since I discovered them. Just water that’s it- wet the cloth with warm water and wipe the streaks, fingerprints, smudges away. So easy! Same for stove top and mirrors or windows though for windows I only use them in the inside as I don’t want to get them grimy by cleaning outside. For that I use vinegar and water with a couple drops of dish soap. For all else like my glass top coffee table and appliances ,mirrors etc. I use the magic Jude cloth. No product needed. Highly recommend
My favorite product to use on all my stainless steel appliances is-the Orange Cleaner its a multipurpose degreaser/cleaner-It is not Orange glow. That is more of a furniture type cleaner/polish I get the inexpensive version from Smart & Final in the So. Cal area. It really works great.
Another hint, to prevent staining on any vertical surface, start from the bottom, this way once you start getting further up the dirty liquid, will go over on to an already wet surface and greatly lessening the chance of staining an already damp surface,. And for my refrigerator, I use a small window squeegee, the one with a sponge on one side and the other side with the rubber squeegee, it's faster.
I will try dawn with a little rubbing alcohol and water as others suggest, but my real struggle is the bottom freezer door seems to have permanent streaking that no amount of elbow grease is alleviating. Something about it being colder is thwarting my efforts!

If you have a water tank pill it with some vinegar, clean the cowl and when you're done flush. What's happening is that porcelain has microscopic sized hole in it and the minerals from hard water get trapped it it and the vinegar helps dissolve the minerals. While this method works there is no real solution and this step will need to be repeated on an ongoing basis, but you'll notice a difference right away and the stains will take longer to appear.
Yes! I also like to use my DIY vinegar mix for that job. 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup water and a teaspoon of Dawn dish soap. The added vinegar will help not only clean but also deodorize any stinky odors in the fridge.

Very helpful video, thanks. Regarding the Bar Keeper's friend soft cleaner, I notice in the video that you use a spray bottle but the soft cleaner comes in a non-spray bottle. Do you mix it in a spray bottle or do you use it pure? Also in the link of your video you include the Bar Keeper's friend More product. Is that what you are using in the video at 04:34 ? Do you mix it with the soft cleaner? Do you use both on the stainless?
It's also a good idea to clean the seal along the inside edges on the doors. I clean ours twice a year, or as needed. They should rarely get anything on them. There was 1 fridge where their seal at the bottom kept getting moldy and it took another week to figure out why. Mold was hiding under the fridge because of a slow leak. An old fridge, like from the 90's at least. I'm not there anymore to clean, so hopefully someone has a keen eye, or get a newer fridge, lol.
I do have to say though that I bought a Miele dishwasher that has a fingerprint resistant coat, and it is a joy.
Cove has the same thing. Miele cleaned better IMHO but required much more maintenance.

Yes, following with a dry towel is the secret for sure. If you dry it in smaller areas as you go, you can practically use water.

I mix alcohol,dawn and water in a spray bottle, and use this to clean my appliances it works really well
Yup. I call it "Simple Blue". Always a good way to use vodka that you don't like.
What are the proportions of alcohol, dawn, and water?
@ I use 2 parts cheap vodka to 1 part water and a little Dawn.. a teaspoon maybe per liter. But most sources I see use 1 part vodka to 2 parts water. I'm curious as to what @wandanowlin makes.

@@lauralanebender9035 Rubbing alcohol works, I just don't like the smell even for a moment, so I save it for special jobs like removing permanent marker.

We have multiple stainless steel appliances in our photo studio I do what you do but I add 1/2 cup of isopropyl alcohol to the mix.
I use a Lysol wipe and buff with a microfiber.

I’ve heard of using fractured coconut oil on stainless steel. Is that like using olive oil? Will it get sticky over time if I use the coconut oil?
Very helpful video, thanks. Regarding the Bar Keeper's friend soft cleaner, I notice in the video that you use a spray bottle but the soft cleaner comes in a non-spray bottle. Do you mix it in a spray bottle or do you use it pure? Also in the link of your video you include the Bar Keeper's friend More product. Is that what you are using in the video at 04:34 ? Do you mix it with the soft cleaner? Do you use both on the stainless?
My son loves stainless...we all live together. He's taken over buying the big stuff....for me I'd go back to the easy stuff.

3 in 1 oil works the best. you don't need much, just a little bit. All the appliance store use it to keep everything shiny

It's also a good idea to clean the seal along the inside edges on the doors. I clean ours twice a year, or as needed. They should rarely get anything on them.
There was 1 fridge where their seal at the bottom kept getting moldy and it took another week to figure out why.
Mold was hiding under the fridge because of a slow leak. An old fridge, like from the 90's at least. I'm not there anymore to clean, so hopefully someone has a keen eye, or get a newer fridge, lol.
