As someone who make doll clothes a lot (i make them for my little sister but im also hyperfixated on it so 🤷♀️) if you make something like this again, id totally recommend getting some fabric softener to mix with your acrylic paint! That helps avoid your paint cracking and basically sorta turns the paint into fabric paint haha
Imagine being as talented as Emma 💗 im a Traditional artist and I’ve recently been easing myself into digital and it’s all a hot mess 🤦♀️ any tips for beginners?
aw thank you!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻id say experiment as much as possible! but don’t bite off more than you can chew, take it slow! my early digital art wasn’t the best but practice and time really helps!
I have some tips that would've helped me a lot back in the day: - Learn your digital art program and don't rush to pay for the "professional" ones. I recommend FireAlpaca or Krita for free alts. I'd say FireAlpaca is more easy to understand, either way, YT is your friend for tutorials. - Just use one brush for everything, one you really like, you'll feel dizzy trying to use more at first so it's best to experiment with all the pens and then choose the one you feel is more natural. - Remember to use layers with a purpose, I would say to use your sketch as lineart and just clean it up, trust me, it will feel so much better than trying to trace over it for a clean lineart, it will look robotic and you'll end up wondering why the sketch looks better if you try tracing over the sketch. Just do that until you feel more comfortable, to be honest, I would say cleaning up sketches is the superior method in the end but whateves. - Pens usually have an opacity setting so you might like that if you're trying to fade out your shading while using a single pen. - Layers also have settings (multiply would be good for shadows and overlay is nice for fixing color composition and brings harmony to the drawing, layers also have opacity. These two are good for beginners.), you can clip layers to other layers to draw over an area that is drawn already but it doesn't bleed into the background and there's also alpha lock layer that does the same thing but just on the same layer. Clipping layers are useful for effects or if you want to draw on a base color in separate phases (like separating the hair and skin, something like that). I hope this was useful, sorry if it's in any way confusing 🗿
A tip would definitely be to keep on drawing! Have fun with it, don’t view it as a chore. Everyone draws something they don’t like sometimes, don’t let that hold you back from learning from the mistakes and trying again!!
I used to love watching People making ooak dolls and even made some myself. this reminded me of that love again Emma i think the doll turnd out amazingly beautiful I love to see a series of you making your design of the main 6 of mlp
i love dolls but whenever I watch videos of like redoing their hair people make it seem so easy. this video makes me feel more confident in messing around with dolls since youre new to this too! plus horse girls so this is the best video
She's so cool!!! :D I think the slightly messy, consuming hair works decently well for fluttershy, even if it's not as neat and pretty as in your illustration - kinda gives the impression she's hiding in it, (which is something i used to try to do a lot, actually.) Shy girl swag... Doesn't seem like this video did especially well comparatively to some of your other content, so given that and the amount of time and effort she took to make it wouldn't be surprising if you never wanted to come back to doll customization, but personally I'd be delighted if you made even one more out of the mane six!!
for a first-timer this is SO. GOOD. if you ever do another doll i definitely recommend getting hair from dollyhair, they've been in the doll hair business for like 20 years now i think?? and all their stuff is SUPER good
That's incredible for your first time doing it !! She's really pretty but have you tried to wet the hair as much as possible to shape it a little better ? 🤔 Otherwise the outfit and the face are gorgeous to me 💯
I would love if you do the rest of the mane 6. And a tip for the water color pencils, you can dip them into a water (but a tiny bit). Yeah, i also learn about that as well. You can also use pan pastels for the skin since an another doll artist named Poppen Aliter uses them for her doll creations. I think it's much easier and less messy than aryclic paint in my opinion.
She came out so lovely!!!!!! For a first time OOAK doll, I think you translated her design from the drawing very well!!! The skirt and shoes were my favorite bits 🥺🥺 I love your Fluttershy design and I am SO inspired by your efforts to depict her in more than one medium, this rules so damn hard 🦋🦋❤❤❤
Her face is so adorable, oh my goodness and I love her eyes- Even if the hair didn’t curl the way you wanted it to, she still turned out absolutely gorgeous and her colors are so pleasing to look at. If you were to do more, I’d love to see Luna, your design for her was beautiful and- yeah.
this is great! i think that fabric paint and lil slices of fusible interfacing tape to do hems etc could elevate the look by reducing bulk/stiffness (which, like water + starch treatments to “pose” the folds, can make a world of difference in miniatures to make the fabric drape properly and look in scale!) but your fundamentals are excellent 💕
This was absolutely gorgeous! especially since you never done this before!!!! I know this video was months ago but it still puts me in an amazed state by just looking at it!! Amazing job Emma!!
i don't sign into my youtube account too often but i couldn't just be a quiet watcher. i felt like i needed to tell you how much i love your channel and think you're VERY talented!!!

Wow! This was so satisfying to watch! I’m stepping into custom dolls myself, and seeing trial and error really helps me overcome my perfectionist tendencies. Plus I love your overall design for Fluttershy. I can totally see these designs being a legitimate doll line. Also, I love your channel redesign! Keep up the great work!
you are literally my new favorite creator. i found you from your drawing videos but when i saw this doll video i literally jumped for joy! keep up the good work, i would love to see more doll content. especially your MH doll redesigns as a real doll!
I'm actually a long time watcher of Dollightful and other doll channels, and I just started my first doll custom project. Seeing this video pop up right after I finally purchased MSC was insane timing. She turned out so cute!!! Doing something for the first time is soo scary but I think it is awesome you shared the process with us. I think it's awesome when artists do that since sometimes it can be so scary and intimidating when you only see the pros haha. I love this so much!!
OH MY GOSH THIS IS SO CUTEEE- ESPECIALLY THE CLOTHES. This is actually pretty good for your first time! I’ve always wanted to make an OOAK doll tbh, maybe way later tho. But seriously it’s amazing!
Omg yay finally!! I've been watching over all her old videos and was pleasantly surprised to see this new upload XD This doll is fueling my mlp obsession--she's so cute
honestly this doll has such charm i would 100% but this on my desk and stare at it for inspo, espc for a first doll this is beautiful and the sloppy bits just add that extra charm imo
I just started doll customizing as well, and wow, I felt a lot of moments from this video in my soul. You were courageous to take on the sewing of tiny doll clothes, i took the easy way out to sculpting on clothes. I am also full of microplastics ✌️
She looks so good! If you do another I think you should do Applejack! Also I happened to get recommended this video while I was cleaning some g1 and g3 mlp. I just thought that was kinda funny especially because a lot doll customization tips tend to cross over because ponies are also made out of vinyl and have synthetic hair.
I wish I could go back in time and tell you to use a craft knife on the shoes instead of the sandpaper 😂 your poor hands! She turned out sooo cute! I do hope you end up making the other characters (sorry I dont know the ponies xD), that'd be super fun to see next to your art
As a person that usually ignores the "use gloves/mask" recomendations I have to insists to ALWAYS wear then with MSC, the reason for the price and unavailability is because that think is supermegaultra toxic 😢

However, since the hair is so stiff, it's a hair type that you will want to keep pretty long so it won't fly up. 3. I ordered that hair before! It's nylon but a type of nylon that's more suited for Halloween wigs or dolls of a bigger scale since the strands are thicker and stiffer. But that isn't to say that it can't work with Monster High dolls.
I have some tips for working with that hair if you want some:
1. Since the hair is so thick, you can probably get away with adding less hair to each hole, it can save you some money in the long run too! It'll still look voluminous and it'll be easier to style!
2. The hair is about 32 inches. However, since the hair is so stiff, it's a hair type that you will want to keep pretty long so it won't fly up.
3. If the hair get's tangled, you can spray some water with a little bit of conditioner mixed in and comb it to detangle it. After detangling all you can, dip the hair in boiling water and repeat until it's not tangled anymore.
4. It can be styled with a straightener or a curling iron at a very low heat! Always test on a tiny piece of the hair first though since every heating tool is a bit different!
I hope this helps with your doll journey! I love how how she turned out!
