My main gripes with Vivs designs is that, as an animator, they’re VERY animation unfriendly. Husk doesn’t need a billion alternating dots on his wings, the fact the reds of the main characters clothes are generally the same saturation as the background makes it difficult to distinguish, and all the intricate patterns are incredibly annoying to keep on model even with the use of pre-made rigs. Your Husk is by far my fave redesign of the bunch, not just for fixing things like the wings, but actually helping him stand out!! He *looks* like someone who died in the 70s, whilst still keeping that gambling/magician aspect in
I think this shows Viv’s strengths with character designing in general, but weak with considering everything else in the show.. not to say I hate them tho I LOVE THE SHOW SM but just that while HH main gang looks like eye candy for me with their unique designs, I’m also apprehensive and worried abt the animators who spent time working with every minute detail 😭
Not a day goes by that I don't feel sorry for Vivs animation team. Those designs are NIGHTMARISH. And thats both before and after she redesigned them. The redesigns have new problems now!
Your critiques are basically what Lavendertowne was saying, which is kinda funny, lol But yeah, the designs are amazing and beautiful, but look painful to animate
I feel like redesigns could help point out flaws of characters like I forget that angel dust is a spider demon and I’ve seen redesigns that give them the spider butt thing and it makes his character a whole lot better, but I understand why that wasn’t a design option because animating his butt thing would be hard😭 Edit:To be clear idk how to animate so all animation is going to seem hard for me
Honesty Vivizie's characters are so hard to animate already (beelzebub, valentino, fizzarolli etc) I really don't think a spider butt would have made much difference 😭 Like I'l gladly trade angel's extra pair of arms for a spider butt and a pair of pedipalps
@@kayisconfused_I mean, to be fair, a lot of animators who worked on Hazbin/Helluva actually don't really mind, a lot of them actually said that they found Beelzebub really fun to animate when Episode 8 of Season 1 came out for Helluva, so I feel like if the animators are cool with it it's no big deal
The whole lavendertowne thing doesn't really phase me, I can understand people being a bit upset that her video dropped in terms of quality and standards. However, the art community as well as internet fandoms in general are HORRIBLE. The Hazbin Hotel fandom is not immune to the toxic mob majority. Your designs are unique and have a ton of personality without being overwhelming. I'm not a Hazbin/Helluva/Vivzi fan by any means but her concepts are fun to use for practicing character design/redesigning.
I’m a HazbinHotel fan here that didn’t watch the video but I did see some people react to it and the things that found wrong and Lavender town’s video is her lack of research and coloring over fanart mistaking it for official art. (which I don’t even know how you do that.) When you redesign characters from a show, you have to research about the characters

She made a separate video afterwards explaining that a lot had been happening in her life and she still wanted to put out a video, but wasn’t able to put it to the usual standards of her normal videos. Also, that fanart was being used on an official movie/show website where they’d cut off any artist tags, which led to the mix-up :)

She’s viewing it from a character design perspective and the majority of the shows design is lacking for something trying to seem so professional.
Your Husk is so cool, i also agree that Husk shouldn't be thin, considering that he's canonically an alcoholic! Giving him a beer belly makes him soo much cooler imo :3 Really good video
Just because someone is alcoholic doesn't mean they have to be obese... And no hate but this is very close subject to me because by grandfather is one and he is skinny So I feel like weight does not matter in this subject
I personally like the idea of Vaggie looking more muscular, like a muscular chubby kinda vibe! Sense in the show she was an exterminator and exterminators are meant to fight so I feel like she would’ve trained very often hence why she was still muscular, but still a little bit chubby since chub is never a bad idea :3

I think Alastor is still missing something. I like the colors and art but the problem I aways had with Alastor personally was that he was (according to live streams) half-creole and therefore he was supposedly,,,, half-black and that affected his backstory I wished that maybe in the hair that was represented more (especially in the show)
I’m almost 100% convinced Viv added the half-Creole part in due to backlash regarding him practicing voodoo despite being presumably white. Which is a shame, because the idea of him managing to work as a successful radio host during a time period that famously treated any minority (but particularly black people) pretty badly works as an interesting backstory!! But, like basically all of Vivs characters in the Hellaverse, basically nothing is actually done with this to flesh them out
Now that you mention it, I realized Nifty and Alastor kind of share their colors. Nifty has yellow and reddish pink, and Alastor has yellow and red, like they are more connected than Husk and Alastor, while both of then most likely have a contract with Alastor. Perhaps If Alastor had his iconic yellow teeth he'd connect more with Nifty in the redesign? 🤔
your comment made me realize that there's plenty of definitions of creole. i only knew of the spanish-speaking _criollo_ and just assumed _his_ creole meant kind of the same thing. huh! there's a whole wikipedia article about the multiple definitions of creole people worldwide.
@@steampunk-llama i disagree. i dont think vivzie would have written a solid "he was actually racist" storyline and made it out to be that he was ACTUALLY a bad person for being racist... like the show wouldntve have put enough emphasis on alastor being racist since hes a fan favorite + considering i dont think vivzie had that in mind when she made him a voodou user in the first place + ALSO considering how she has handled controversy in the past regarding this (such as blitzo saying the r slur in the pilot of helluva) saying "its hell, you expect bad people" yeah, except blitzo saying the r slur wasnt necessary as it didnt delve into any ableism with blitzo and instead was just a one off slur for no reason.
An artist is literally allowed to draw something that’s not ascetically pleasing. It’s simple as that. Absolutely everyone is allowed to have bad art days. Even if those bad art days happen to occur when they criticize a popular show. Drawing ugly art is not a crime.
The Vivziepop fandom is so frustrating, istfg I still can't believe people are bullying artists for imagining the characters differently. Just like I can't believe they hate on people who have, heaven forbids, the audacity to say the show isn't as good.
This honestly. I was a fringe fan from the beginning but I avoid it completely now because it's genuinely scary how overly attached some people are to an arguably mid show.

Lavendertowne was never claiming to "Fix" the designs, she starts the video literally stating that it was for character design practice and she has no intentions of "fixing" them just redesigning them with her and others preferences in mind. She took her own critique and others that she's seen around and applied it to her designs. Were her designs the best? no. Did she in fact mess up when coloring over someone's art? yes. Those are all valid critiques that no one here is denying, but let's not continue to make up false information on lavendertowne, when the worse thing she did was be misinformed.

my biggest issue with lavendertownes designs is the lack of detail and quality, and they arent faithful enough to the characters in my opinion. definitely poorly researched but we all make mistakes and she took the video down and is working to make new designs so i really dont think she did anything wrong on that front btw your redesigns are some of the best ive seen, very well researched and detailed!!!! i especially enjoy your alastor!! and i think the minty green for angel dust is a nice touch

@@S0ap_Bvbbl3z Same face syndrom is when an artist has a constant habit of making their characters have the same facial details, either that'd be the same face structure, same eye shape, and/or same mouth shape, etc. I wouldn't necessarily say vivzie has it, but theres signs of it, especially in the male characters she draws, which outside of the face syndrom, often have the same outfit style (often wearing suits with bowties, tophats, etc)

For Vaggie, it was confirmed she was supposed to be the protector of the hotel, so I think you should make an outfit for that kind of role, I don’t see her in that kind of outfit you have put her in would be great in combat! [Please note, this is feedback and an opinion I wanted to give back!]
I hate that hate is so common towards artists nowadays. In the case of Lavendertowne, I feel like people had been looking for a reason to crap all over her. Discrimination is so normalized, and it's running artists into the ground.

Because all of the Hazbin characters have the same body type (or most of them atleast) I just took the main cast and spun a wheel for diff body shapes for my redesigns. It works.
I've been a fan of lavender Towne since I was starting middle school (for reference I graduate high-school in a month) and I absolutely adore her artsyle. Sure the designs she did for the hazbin cast looked a little off (although I really like Charlie's design that she made) I feel most of what makes the designs off is the amount of detail. she absolutely did not deserve the harassment she got. Also absolutely love the redesigns! Charlie looks so cute! Edit: if you reading this are an artist struggling to draw different body types I would highly suggest studying the steven universe art style. It helped me a lot and they use a lot of nice shapes.
I REALLY like your Vaggie. The body type just *feels* more like how she looks in my head when I look back on the show than the actual design, if that makes sense?
Oh same 100% I’m all for bigger body types in characters. Hell most of my ocs don’t look anything like me body type and ethnicity wise. And obviously I’m not saying I’m better than Viv because of that I’m just saying it should be normalized more in all media so people can see themselves in the characters they like
I love the idea you went for with Vaggie’s design but because that Vaggie was an exorcist she didn’t technically die in 2014 in the actual show. but it could still work as that being her cover story like the moth motif that she just ran with to be like “oh yeah totally I just loved moths when I was alive”

Not that you asked, but bug is actually a *type* of insect, although it's often used to refer to all insects. Actual bugs have mouth parts that suvk, like flies, butterflies, ants, and bees! So, I 100% headcanon her to be an ant, because shes very smol compared to the rest of the cast. (Plus, how cute would she look with little ant antennas?)
As a die hard hazbin hotel fan i personally hate what the « fandom » did to lavendertown, in my opinion : yes. She should have done more research (but personally i think we should always do research for a redesign) but she was extremely nice when talking about the designs, she wasn’t tearing them or the creator down she was being extremely respectful and everything. I also personally really like when people redesign the characters because i love to see what other people might have done differently but only when they are respectful which is why i love this video ❤️ I can tell that you did your research (more specifically when you said that Adam only has hot women in his exterminator army because that is something most people don’t know ^^) while still trying to stick with the original ideas. This video was amazing keep up the great work ❤️❤️
I'm pretty certain alot of the hate also came from the fact that lavender is already heavily disliked in the artist community (I can not remember why) so my theory is that alot of people were just quick to jump on a hate bandwagon against someone they already disliked.
i think ppl just dont like her being such a huge figure in the art community while having chronic same face syndrome. also she did a percy jackson redesign and whitewashed grover a couple years back and she got flamed for that as well
i’m so glad you addressed all the hate that some redesigns get. i feel really bad for meppity and lavender town and i personally didn’t like their designs but no art is worth that much hate except ai art.
Honestly i love the charlie design you made!!! The horns remind me of the female imp horns from helluva boss Also something i feel like some people don't take into consideration is that.. the hazbin SHOW on amazon prime has reached a lot of new people to the fandom, but people expect everyone to know everything about the characters, expect you to look at the wiki, search in old Livestreams and Tumblr posts???? I feel like people should look at the show for what it is.. for an example, how are people supposed to know that charlie is supposed to look like a porcelain doll and a goat?? I mean, I'm not even sure if that's even true anymore??? Oh and i think one of the things people talking about is the uniform situation, i feel like it would be fun if the redesigns had a casual version and a hotel employee uniform version. That's just a little idea though

I actually like a lot of redesigns although I think you missed an opportunity when you said you wanted to switch off the body types. Vaggie is a warrior, I could totally see her being more muscular rather than chubby. I know it leans into the muscular lesbian trope, but I think it would actually work for her if she was like lean, but muscular.
i am genuinely impressed with how mature your views and speaking is. you make such good points in your redesign videos that aren’t… backhanded or offensive and downright disrespectful towards the original designers. you ability to be just. yourself but not get into childish, nit-picky and almost egotistical arguments is such a breath of fresh air. i love how ‘neutral’ you are in a lot of your viewpoints. just amazing!!
I love your Alastor design. The eyes being the same colours as Vox's design could also hint at their rivalry and past relationship/friendship. (I don't know how they were involved with each other, just that they know each other.)
I actually really like the redesigns, I first watched lavendertowne's redesign, so seeing another one, is really cool. I also really agree with you on the whole 'people don't like the redesign, automatically insult and constantly swarm it'
Pretty much every Vaggie redesign I have seen has changed her hair style, which always disappoints me because I LOVE her hair in the show!! Super glad you decided to keep it :D And I think it would be cool if your Vaggie design showed more muscule (she's an ex-soldier)! I appreciate trying to keep hair styles diverse, though I think Nifty's spikey hair actually strengths her design; it subverts the typical pristine image of a 1950s American housewife and conveys her ✨️ unhinged ✨️ nature. Also, I think Nifty is supposed to have a bug motif (specifically of pest bugs like roaches or fleas)!! No nitpicks of your Husk design

i think a lot of people really need to learn the difference between not liking something/something just not being their thing and something being objectively bad, and also between insults vs criticisms lol, i feel like the hazbin situation from both the fans _and_ the haters is a good example of needing to know that difference. good designs btw !! also is it bad i wish lavendertownes video was still up so i could comment on it lol, i wouldnt even be an ass like i know a ton of people are being, i would just actually criticise the designs, because i can see what she was going for but you could definitely tell she wasnt very familiar with the characters, and it led to them looking uninspired/unfinished/unlike themselves. hope shes doing well in everything happening
See, I don’t think the problem is that Vivienne is a bad character designer. She’s been at it for years now and has clearly learned when to restrain her urge to add little details that only make sense if you watch some livestream from 5 years ago (and she knows how to draw characters that aren’t just Tumblr sexymen wannabes). However, the problem is her use of color. Let’s use Vaggie as an example. Pilot Vaggie had too much white/light gray/pale rose on her and ends up becoming a mess of literal white noise; show Vaggie has too much red and black on her and ends up becoming lost in the red and black void that is the Vivzieverse’s version of hell. In trying to fix pilot Vaggie’s palette problem, Vivienne accidentally created a new problem. And here I am (even with my lack of knowledge on HH/HB outside of independent research I’ve done/what I’ve heard from my artist friends) thinking that she already had a perfect color scheme for Vaggie in the form of her Zoophobia colors. That navy blue and black just SING. Compare that to Charlie, who had an already good design in the pilot and a near-perfect design in the final show (I’d’ve given her a snake-looking braid and actual corneas, but still). In her case, cranking up the red actually worked because it unified her outfit and made her more vibrant- which is more in line with her personality, really. It’s so strange how one palette tweak made a good design great and yet it made a so-so design genuinely bad.
YES THATS IT!! i will say her outfits are very samey BUT the silhouettes are so unique and nice!!! its clear she knows a lot about understanding design, she just seemed to go wayyy too hard on the colors. If her coloring wasnt so aggressive, i think the designs would be a lot better received
Also, the Vees are her best designs IMO. Extremely strong theming, great silhouettes, and they look insanely perfect together. Would’ve preferred them as Season 1’s big bads over discount Lamech and Coldsteel the Angel (original character donut steel).
I think people forget that the main characters of hazbin are in the pride ring of hell. The pride ring is represented by red which is why most of their designs consist of red to correspond to which ring they're from. Seeing it can get repetitive but it seems to be like that for a reason
Their color scheme is red and black mostly because they’re from/manifested in the pride ring..which is red and black. If they went to any other ring they would stick out like a sore thumb. Like in heaven.
What's really funny is that I also thought of Husk as being a bigger guy. I think Vivzie missed a golden opportunity to make him big because he inherently has those vibes :v Good lord, these are probably my favorite redesigns I've seen of these guys. You really breathed a new life into them. Alastor and Husk especially are lovely, the mint green looks surprisingly good on Angel Dust, and Charlie's accent of baby blue really highlights her her naive innocence. 10/10 I wish these were canon

I love chubby husk. Except, even though he died in the 70s he was an old man at that point so he probably wouldn't be up to date with that styling? Idk, other thatn that I love it
as a person who really likes Hazbin Hotel, but doesn't really consider herself a "fan" (i just like consuming fan-made content lol)... YOUR REDESIGNS ARE FCKING AMAZING!!! imma be honest, i was kinda skepcitcal at first when i started watching this video, 'cause i already liked the original designs and none of the redesigns i saw really stuck with me, but your redesigns are just aaaaAAAAA i love them! the characters look absolutely fabulous in your style, and i loved the addition of the lil accent colors! i literaly don't have enough words to describe how much i enjoyed this video! (also, my favourite was defintely Alastor, i wanna boop that nose so badly lmao)
Even if I’m not a fan of Lavendertowne (I’m just not a fan of her content/online persona), she doesn’t deserve to be harassed. Yes, she screwed up, but that doesn’t justify sending hate to other creators all because they made a mistake.
I love your Vaggie and I would die for your Husk to be canon! You touched on some very important points. I often think people are too cruel towards redesigns bc in reality they're just that. Fan works. They don't take away from the source material. On the other hand, I really like that you kept the original design ideas and characteristics in mind here
Love your redesigns, especially Vaggie. Despite what a lot of fans say, I think making Vaggie thick is a good idea as not only does it add variety and make her contrast to Charlie, but also it can do some really good visual storytelling, showing how much Vaggie changed after going from heaven to hell. In heaven, when she was in Adam's army, she might have to follow a strict routine and lifestyle, especially in terms of diet, workout and fighting practice. But after coming to hell, she could finally just be herself, live her like like she wants to, and finally just breath some hellish air. Niffty is just adorable (as always, but more so) with the bug antennae ribbon, and I think that heart eye is just beautiful and clever as it could really make her more expensive (not that she isn't in her original design, just that this would make her a bit more expensive as the heart could change to other symbols based on her emotions, especially given how moody our favorite adorable maniac gremlin gal is). Loving your version of Husk as I personally think he looks more stoned here than in the show. I do think Charlie's eyes are better kept red or maybe made pink or orange instead of making them blue because blue just isn't very demonic enough (sure it fits her optimistic personality well, but so could the alternatives I provided, while still showing off her demonic side) for a character who is the princess of hell, or with atleast having them go red when she enters her angry demon form (thus I personally prefer her original show design over yours, though I do love the hairstyle you gave her as it kinda reminds me of Angel Dust's, sister, Molly), but otherwise, overall, great redesigns and thank you for making this video in a respectful and well-researched way and giving meaningful praise as well as critique to one of my favorite shows of all time.
big fan of the colour variation. one of the hardest things abt watching the show (or clips of the show, more accurately) for me was trying to distinguish characters from the background and from each other when they're clumped together. all the motion and colour and excessive patterning gave me a horrific migraine. these are much kinder on the eyes!
18:33 I LOVE the blue honestly, it adds contrast that really pushes the design, I didn’t realize how much It needed it before this video. And it would be completely different if it was solid, with it just being the dots and the shading, I think that’s perfect
i'm not super into hazbin but i just have to say i LOVE your husk design i LOVE his silhouette and i somehow don't think i've EVER seen someone take the 70s aesthetic into account and you do it SWIMMINGLY. the pop of orange in the aviator glasses and the card suit patterned shirt are just the cherries on top IMPECCABLE. HUGE FAN.

I love your husk and alastor redesigns especially and I think it's really nice to get breaks from the red color scheme of everything, it's so draining to the eye to look at such an overwhelming amount of red.
I'm just proud of LavenderTowne for continuing to make her videos despite the backlash she got and is still getting. Sure, her video wasn't perfect, but we're all only humans and she even said herself that she wasn't feeling her best at the time and was dealing with things irl.

when i heard abt what happened to lavender towne i was gobsmacked, but also sadly, not surprised. as someone whose followed vivzie since her timber and die young days; i have my gripes w the og designs ONLY bc they dont fit how the characters are described, so for me seeing redesigns is fun, tbh id love to do my own more, lets say "re-imagining" of the hazbin crew; bc i love the idea of the princess of hell reforming sinners to save their souls, but i wanna do it MY way EDIT: OH MY GOD I LOVE YOUR HUSK I LOVE WHEN PPL MAKE HIM CHUNKY and im biased now for personal reasons
As a fan of the series, I wanted to let you know that I love your re-designs! The only critique that I have is maybe giving Husk more detailed bat-like wings instead and personally, I prefer the use of red instead of pink on Alastor. Just my opinion, but overall, I really did enjoy this a lot. Nice work! ❤

As someone who is really into Hazbin Hotel, I thought this redesign was really good and respectful! You clearly did research and treated the source matearial with respect and I appreciate that. However I do have some criticism, but I hope you take this from a place of enjoyment and helpfulness rather than hate. That being said: - this is small but I didn’t really see the deer motif in Charlie, you wanted to deer ears that could push it a bit more (but there’s nothing wrong with it as it is) - Vaggie looked a bit too casual, because she’s very hard working it looked a bit off. Even though this is true for the show too - I’m pretty sure Nifty’s animal motif is bugs, because of her eye, spindly black legs, and small size. A bunny felt out of nowhere - Husks wings a bit small and spindly, I think it takes away from them. But I DEFINITELY agree with making him chubbier, also that those suit are like the only clothings in these designs - IDK why but I liked the thumbnail for Alistor more than the actual design. The black and white with pops of red/green is a great idea, but you could have gone darker to match his personality. Also his hair is to short (but that’s just me XD) (P.S I actually like the mint version of angel more than the other, be confident in your redesigns gurl!
I’m a big fan of these redesigns, I feel like they keep the personalities of the characters and a lot more of the storyline, I feel like lavendertowns new designs even still lack some of the story of the characters, especially husks, which I think you did an incredible job redesigning
These are AMAZING!! Some key things I'd like to point out are: -Alastor's pants are super cool and they definitely give radio wave vibes to me -Husk definitely looks like he came out of the 70s and I love that sm -Charlie kinda gives me Dolly Parton vibes, Idk why, but I'm here for it -Niffty's hair is probably my favorite part of the design, the colors make me think of fruit which fits her character backstory a lot

My favorite redesign you did has to be Husk! Honestly, prior to this video, I had no idea that he was supposed to be from the 70s lol. I also really like your Alastor redesign. He reminds me a lot of 1930s cartoons with the way you stylized him. Though my only critiques would have to be the colors, specifically, his hair color. I feel like using a black/darker color for his hair would help the design feel more balanced. My last critique which is a very minor one would have to be that Alastor is half Creole, and seeing more of those features in his design would’ve been nice.
i love that you made husk chubby, i too imagine him as being more chubby. he sounds chubbier in a way and his design just makes more sense as chubby and his personality
Love your take on the hazbin hotel cast, and I fell bad to the people who get bullied by mouth breathers just by having fun with redesigning their favorite characters in there favorite show. keep in mind that there's no such thing as perfection but it is what you see as perfection.
I guess Alastor might be missing some things still, but I do love your creativity when redesigning all characters. You truly are an artist. Even if people have dislikes, it doesn’t change your creativity and art.❤
To be honest, for my side of things, I feel like seeing someones reinterpretation of a character or two is pretty interesting when done without malace. If anyone went about redesigning my characters to show how they would visualise my group, I would find it really interesting and kinda magical when coming from a place of kindness and experimentation. Although, I get how terrifying the fans can be when they see something that gets under their skin, or they think is an attack. however, this also makes me wonder how the creators of a franchise feel about this too, so many questions lol
omg i love how they turned out!!! especially i like how you added cool tone accents to charlie, angel and alastor! it feels very refreshing! my favorite is definitely alastor, black and white suits his character so much! and i think his original mostly red color pallet doesn't make mush sense for him??? but black and white or sepia colors(that i saw in other redesigns) ties down to old media forms really well!
I do think that Lavendertowne is correct about the characters fitting in to the background and not standing out enough but I think that Vivziepop knows that. You can see in almost every shot that the characters have a pretty thick lineart and even have a bit of shadow on it to separate them and honestly I think that fixes it.

i like your design for charlie, it's really cute! but one piece of feedback i can offer is that i liked your version of the sketch where her horns extended past the top of her hair best! i think that would give her a much clearer, bolder silhouette that's still recognizable as charlie, but overall, good job!
with everything happening with hazbin redesigns, I think some people have good intentions with redesigns, and some don't deserve that kind of hate. However, to people who think that they are ''fixing'' these characters just because its in their art style and thinking its favorable, that's a bit of a problem. I loved seeing you cover this topic and I agree with a lot of things you said!
i love all of these designs so much, they're amazing. (Husk is defiantly my favorite) also for the Charlie design i personally prefer the horns to the headband, they add a stronger sense of balance to her design and them sticking out to the side adds something interesting to her silhouette also also- if i may give a smol suggestion- it's be really cute to switch out the poodle on Nifty's skirt with a bunny. i know the poodle is iconic to those skirts but making it a bunny instead would make the bunny elements register more because there isn't a different animal breaking the theme

I love these character redesigns! In my own opinion on vaggie though, I personally think she’d be more muscular in a way, considering she did used to be those exterminator angles.
I actually really like the idea of making Vaggie a bit bigger than she was in the show. I remember when I first watched the Pilot thinking that she looked a little wrong but I wasn't quite sure how. But of the redesigns I've seen, they bulk her up a bit and she definitely looks more right (at least in my headcanon). And great job on the redesigns! I think this is one of my favorite lineup of re-thinks yet (I will admit though, I've hardly seen half a dozen)! There's probably a couple things I wouldn't have done but I can't do better, so who am I to speak!
I really like your Alastor. I appreciate whenever artists give him more prominent deer features, because when I first saw him, I didn't know he was a deer. I actually didn't know it until someone told me. I knew he was supposed to me an animal of SOME kind, because of the ears, but I couldn't see his antlers very well so I didn't notice them at first. I also like the design in general for the black-white color scheme. It suits him.

My main gripes with Vivs designs is that, as an animator, they’re VERY animation unfriendly. Husk doesn’t need a billion alternating dots on his wings, the fact the reds of the main characters clothes are generally the same saturation as the background makes it difficult to distinguish, and all the intricate patterns are incredibly annoying to keep on model even with the use of pre-made rigs.
Your Husk is by far my fave redesign of the bunch, not just for fixing things like the wings, but actually helping him stand out!! He *looks* like someone who died in the 70s, whilst still keeping that gambling/magician aspect in

I think this shows Viv’s strengths with character designing in general, but weak with considering everything else in the show.. not to say I hate them tho I LOVE THE SHOW SM but just that while HH main gang looks like eye candy for me with their unique designs, I’m also apprehensive and worried abt the animators who spent time working with every minute detail 😭

Honesty Vivizie's characters are so hard to animate already (beelzebub, valentino, fizzarolli etc) I really don't think a spider butt would have made much difference 😭 Like I'l gladly trade angel's extra pair of arms for a spider butt and a pair of pedipalps

The whole lavendertowne thing doesn't really phase me, I can understand people being a bit upset that her video dropped in terms of quality and standards. However, the art community as well as internet fandoms in general are HORRIBLE. The Hazbin Hotel fandom is not immune to the toxic mob majority. Your designs are unique and have a ton of personality without being overwhelming. I'm not a Hazbin/Helluva/Vivzi fan by any means but her concepts are fun to use for practicing character design/redesigning.
I’m a HazbinHotel fan here that didn’t watch the video but I did see some people react to it and the things that found wrong and Lavender town’s video is her lack of research and coloring over fanart mistaking it for official art. (which I don’t even know how you do that.) When you redesign characters from a show, you have to research about the characters

She made a separate video afterwards explaining that a lot had been happening in her life and she still wanted to put out a video, but wasn’t able to put it to the usual standards of her normal videos. Also, that fanart was being used on an official movie/show website where they’d cut off any artist tags, which led to the mix-up :)

I think Alastor is still missing something. I like the colors and art but the problem I aways had with Alastor personally was that he was (according to live streams) half-creole and therefore he was supposedly,,,, half-black and that affected his backstory
I wished that maybe in the hair that was represented more (especially in the show)
I kind of hate his hair in the show 😭 I think I would take pretty much any other hair style over his canon one tbh.
I’m almost 100% convinced Viv added the half-Creole part in due to backlash regarding him practicing voodoo despite being presumably white.
Which is a shame, because the idea of him managing to work as a successful radio host during a time period that famously treated any minority (but particularly black people) pretty badly works as an interesting backstory!! But, like basically all of Vivs characters in the Hellaverse, basically nothing is actually done with this to flesh them out
Now that you mention it, I realized Nifty and Alastor kind of share their colors.
Nifty has yellow and reddish pink, and Alastor has yellow and red, like they are more connected than Husk and Alastor, while both of then most likely have a contract with Alastor.
Perhaps If Alastor had his iconic yellow teeth he'd connect more with Nifty in the redesign? 🤔

An artist is literally allowed to draw something that’s not ascetically pleasing. It’s simple as that. Absolutely everyone is allowed to have bad art days. Even if those bad art days happen to occur when they criticize a popular show. Drawing ugly art is not a crime.

Lavendertowne was never claiming to "Fix" the designs, she starts the video literally stating that it was for character design practice and she has no intentions of "fixing" them just redesigning them with her and others preferences in mind. She took her own critique and others that she's seen around and applied it to her designs. Were her designs the best? no. Did she in fact mess up when coloring over someone's art? yes. Those are all valid critiques that no one here is denying, but let's not continue to make up false information on lavendertowne, when the worse thing she did was be misinformed.

my biggest issue with lavendertownes designs is the lack of detail and quality, and they arent faithful enough to the characters in my opinion. definitely poorly researched but we all make mistakes and she took the video down and is working to make new designs so i really dont think she did anything wrong on that front

Same face syndrom is when an artist has a constant habit of making their characters have the same facial details, either that'd be the same face structure, same eye shape, and/or same mouth shape, etc.
I wouldn't necessarily say vivzie has it, but theres signs of it, especially in the male characters she draws, which outside of the face syndrom, often have the same outfit style (often wearing suits with bowties, tophats, etc)

Because all of the Hazbin characters have the same body type (or most of them atleast) I just took the main cast and spun a wheel for diff body shapes for my redesigns. It works.

I've been a fan of lavender Towne since I was starting middle school (for reference I graduate high-school in a month) and I absolutely adore her artsyle. Sure the designs she did for the hazbin cast looked a little off (although I really like Charlie's design that she made) I feel most of what makes the designs off is the amount of detail. she absolutely did not deserve the harassment she got.
Also absolutely love the redesigns! Charlie looks so cute!
Edit: if you reading this are an artist struggling to draw different body types I would highly suggest studying the steven universe art style. It helped me a lot and they use a lot of nice shapes.

So, I 100% headcanon her to be an ant, because shes very smol compared to the rest of the cast. (Plus, how cute would she look with little ant antennas?)

As a die hard hazbin hotel fan i personally hate what the « fandom » did to lavendertown, in my opinion : yes. She should have done more research (but personally i think we should always do research for a redesign) but she was extremely nice when talking about the designs, she wasn’t tearing them or the creator down she was being extremely respectful and everything. I also personally really like when people redesign the characters because i love to see what other people might have done differently but only when they are respectful which is why i love this video ❤️ I can tell that you did your research (more specifically when you said that Adam only has hot women in his exterminator army because that is something most people don’t know ^^) while still trying to stick with the original ideas. I'm pretty certain alot of the hate also came from the fact that lavender is already heavily disliked in the artist community (I can not remember why) so my theory is that alot of people were just quick to jump on a hate bandwagon against someone they already disliked.

Also something i feel like some people don't take into consideration is that.. the hazbin SHOW on amazon prime has reached a lot of new people to the fandom, but people expect everyone to know everything about the characters, expect you to look at the wiki, search in old Livestreams and Tumblr posts???? I feel like people should look at the show for what it is.. for an example, how are people supposed to know that charlie is supposed to look like a porcelain doll and a goat?? I mean, I'm not even sure if that's even true anymore???
Oh and i think one of the things people talking about is the uniform situation, i feel like it would be fun if the redesigns had a casual version and a hotel employee uniform version. That's just a little idea though
It's kinda funny because I'm brand new to the fandom(didn't watch until like a month after the full series released) and I learnt most of the lore within a week. I probably sound like a super fan who's been in the fandom for years with how much I know but in actuality I'm just autistic and hyperfixating lol.

I actually like a lot of redesigns although I think you missed an opportunity when you said you wanted to switch off the body types. Vaggie is a warrior, I could totally see her being more muscular rather than chubby. I know it leans into the muscular lesbian trope, but I think it would actually work for her if she was like lean, but muscular.

i am genuinely impressed with how mature your views and speaking is. you make such good points in your redesign videos that aren’t… backhanded or offensive and downright disrespectful towards the original designers. you ability to be just. yourself but not get into childish, nit-picky and almost egotistical arguments is such a breath of fresh air. i love how ‘neutral’ you are in a lot of your viewpoints. just amazing!!

I actually really like the redesigns, I first watched lavendertowne's redesign, so seeing another one, is really cool. I also really agree with you on the whole 'people don't like the redesign, automatically insult and constantly swarm it'
Pretty much every Vaggie redesign I have seen has changed her hair style, which always disappoints me because I LOVE her hair in the show!! Super glad you decided to keep it :D And I think it would be cool if your Vaggie design showed more muscule (she's an ex-soldier)!
I appreciate trying to keep hair styles diverse, though I think Nifty's spikey hair actually strengths her design; it subverts the typical pristine image of a 1950s American housewife and conveys her ✨️ unhinged ✨️ nature. Also, I think Nifty is supposed to have a bug motif (specifically of pest bugs like roaches or fleas)!!

See, I don’t think the problem is that Vivienne is a bad character designer. She’s been at it for years now and has clearly learned when to restrain her urge to add little details that only make sense if you watch some livestream from 5 years ago (and she knows how to draw characters that aren’t just Tumblr sexymen wannabes). However, the problem is her use of color. Let’s use Vaggie as an example.
Pilot Vaggie had too much white/light gray/pale rose on her and ends up becoming a mess of literal white noise; show Vaggie has too much red and black on her and ends up becoming lost in the red and black void that is the Vivzieverse’s version of hell. In trying to fix pilot Vaggie’s palette problem, Vivienne accidentally created a new problem. And here I am (even with my lack of knowledge on HH/HB outside of independent research I’ve done/what I’ve heard from my artist friends) thinking that she already had a perfect color scheme for Vaggie in the form of her Zoophobia colors. That navy blue and black just SING.
Compare that to Charlie, who had an already good design in the pilot and a near-perfect design in the final show (I’d’ve given her a snake-looking braid and actual corneas, but still). In her case, cranking up the red actually worked because it unified her outfit and made her more vibrant- which is more in line with her personality, really. It’s so strange how one palette tweak made a good design great and yet it made a so-so design genuinely bad.
YES THATS IT!! i will say her outfits are very samey BUT the silhouettes are so unique and nice!!! its clear she knows a lot about understanding design, she just seemed to go wayyy too hard on the colors. If her coloring wasnt so aggressive, i think the designs would be a lot better received
Also, the Vees are her best designs IMO. Extremely strong theming, great silhouettes, and they look insanely perfect together. Would’ve preferred them as Season 1’s big bads over discount Lamech and Coldsteel the Angel (original character donut steel).
I think people forget that the main characters of hazbin are in the pride ring of hell. The pride ring is represented by red which is why most of their designs consist of red to correspond to which ring they're from. Seeing it can get repetitive but it seems to be like that for a reason
Their color scheme is red and black mostly because they’re from/manifested in the pride ring..which is red and black. If they went to any other ring they would stick out like a sore thumb. Like in heaven.

Good lord, these are probably my favorite redesigns I've seen of these guys. You really breathed a new life into them. Alastor and Husk especially are lovely, the mint green looks surprisingly good on Angel Dust, and Charlie's accent of baby blue really highlights her her naive innocence. 10/10 I wish these were canon
these designs are sooo nice!! when i first saw the sneak peek of your angel design i wasn‘t sure how much i‘d like the mint green, but it‘s honestly such a good contrast. AND THE SPIDER PINCER MOON THINGIES??? adorable. also in awe of your charlie design, the hair fits her extremely well

Even if I’m not a fan of Lavendertowne (I’m just not a fan of her content/online persona), she doesn’t deserve to be harassed. Yes, she screwed up, but that doesn’t justify sending hate to other creators all because they made a mistake.
I love your Vaggie and I would die for your Husk to be canon! You touched on some very important points. I often think people are too cruel towards redesigns bc in reality they're just that. Fan works. They don't take away from the source material. On the other hand, I really like that you kept the original design ideas and characteristics in mind here
Love your redesigns, especially Vaggie. Despite what a lot of fans say, I think making Vaggie thick is a good idea as not only does it add variety and make her contrast to Charlie, but also it can do some really good visual storytelling, showing how much Vaggie changed after going from heaven to hell. In heaven, when she was in Adam's army, she might have to follow a strict routine and lifestyle, especially in terms of diet, workout and fighting practice. But after coming to hell, she could finally just be herself, live her like like she wants to, and finally just breath some hellish air. Niffty is just adorable (as always, but more so) with the bug antennae ribbon, and I think that heart eye is just beautiful and clever as it could really make her more expensive (not that she isn't in her original design, just that this would make her a bit more expensive as the heart could change to other symbols based on her emotions, especially given how moody our favorite adorable maniac gremlin gal is). Loving your version of Husk as I personally think he looks more stoned here than in the show. I do think Charlie's eyes are better kept red or maybe made pink or orange instead of making them blue because blue just isn't very demonic enough (sure it fits her optimistic personality well, but so could the alternatives I provided, while still showing off her demonic side) for a character who is the princess of hell, or with atleast having them go red when she enters her angry demon form (thus I personally prefer her original show design over yours, though I do love the hairstyle you gave her as it kinda reminds me of Angel Dust's, sister, Molly), but otherwise, overall, great redesigns and thank you for making this video in a respectful and well-researched way and giving meaningful praise as well as critique to one of my favorite shows of all time.
big fan of the colour variation. one of the hardest things abt watching the show (or clips of the show, more accurately) for me was trying to distinguish characters from the background and from each other when they're clumped together. all the motion and colour and excessive patterning gave me a horrific migraine. these are much kinder on the eyes!
18:33 I LOVE the blue honestly, it adds contrast that really pushes the design, I didn’t realize how much It needed it before this video. And it would be completely different if it was solid, with it just being the dots and the shading, I think that’s perfect
i'm not super into hazbin but i just have to say i LOVE your husk design i LOVE his silhouette and i somehow don't think i've EVER seen someone take the 70s aesthetic into account and you do it SWIMMINGLY. the pop of orange in the aviator glasses and the card suit patterned shirt are just the cherries on top IMPECCABLE. HUGE FAN.

I'm just proud of LavenderTowne for continuing to make her videos despite the backlash she got and is still getting. Sure, her video wasn't perfect, but we're all only humans and she even said herself that she wasn't feeling her best at the time and was dealing with things irl.

when i heard abt what happened to lavender towne i was gobsmacked, but also sadly, not surprised. as someone whose followed vivzie since her timber and die young days; i have my gripes w the og designs ONLY bc they dont fit how the characters are described, so for me seeing redesigns is fun, tbh id love to do my own more, lets say "re-imagining" of the hazbin crew; bc i love the idea of the princess of hell reforming sinners to save their souls, but i wanna do it MY way

As a fan of the series, I wanted to let you know that I love your re-designs! The only critique that I have is maybe giving Husk more detailed bat-like wings instead and personally, I prefer the use of red instead of pink on Alastor. Just my opinion, but overall, I really did enjoy this a lot. Nice work! ❤

As someone who is really into Hazbin Hotel, I thought this redesign was really good and respectful! You clearly did research and treated the source matearial with respect and I appreciate that.
However I do have some criticism, but I hope you take this from a place of enjoyment and helpfulness rather than hate. That being said:
- this is small but I didn’t really see the deer motif in Charlie, you wanted to deer ears that could push it a bit more (but there’s nothing wrong with it as it is)
- Vaggie looked a bit too casual, because she’s very hard working it looked a bit off. Even though this is true for the show too
- I’m pretty sure Nifty’s animal motif is bugs, because of her eye, spindly black legs, and small size. A bunny felt out of nowhere
- Husks wings a bit small and spindly, I think it takes away from them. But I DEFINITELY agree with making him chubbier, also that those suit are like the only clothings in these designs
- IDK why but I liked the thumbnail for Alistor more than the actual design. The black and white with pops of red/green is a great idea, but you could have gone darker to match his personality. Also his hair is to short (but that’s just me XD)
(P.S I actually like the mint version of angel more than the other, be confident in your redesigns gurl!
I’m a big fan of these redesigns, I feel like they keep the personalities of the characters and a lot more of the storyline, I feel like lavendertowns new designs even still lack some of the story of the characters, especially husks, which I think you did an incredible job redesigning

Some key things I'd like to point out are:
-Alastor's pants are super cool and they definitely give radio wave vibes to me
-Husk definitely looks like he came out of the 70s and I love that sm
-Charlie kinda gives me Dolly Parton vibes, Idk why, but I'm here for it
-Niffty's hair is probably my favorite part of the design, the colors make me think of fruit which fits her character backstory a lot

Imps are some of the lowest hell-born demons, and giving the Princess of hell horns that reflect female imps horns kinda feels like she’s more connected to her people in a way

My favorite redesign you did has to be Husk! Honestly, prior to this video, I had no idea that he was supposed to be from the 70s lol. I also really like your Alastor redesign. He reminds me a lot of 1930s cartoons with the way you stylized him. Though my only critiques would have to be the colors, specifically, his hair color. I feel like using a black/darker color for his hair would help the design feel more balanced. My last critique which is a very minor one would have to be that Alastor is half Creole, and seeing more of those features in his design would’ve been nice.
i love that you made husk chubby, i too imagine him as being more chubby. he sounds chubbier in a way and his design just makes more sense as chubby and his personality

Love your take on the hazbin hotel cast, and I fell bad to the people who get bullied by mouth breathers just by having fun with redesigning their favorite characters in there favorite show. keep in mind that there's no such thing as perfection but it is what you see as perfection.
usually where most redesigns fumble is the alastor/vaggie designs but i think all of these are pretty strong. Love Alastor especially

To be honest, for my side of things, I feel like seeing someones reinterpretation of a character or two is pretty interesting when done without malace. If anyone went about redesigning my characters to show how they would visualise my group, I would find it really interesting and kinda magical when coming from a place of kindness and experimentation. Although, I get how terrifying the fans can be when they see something that gets under their skin, or they think is an attack. however, this also makes me wonder how the creators of a franchise feel about this too, so many questions lol
omg i love how they turned out!!! especially i like how you added cool tone accents to charlie, angel and alastor! it feels very refreshing!
my favorite is definitely alastor, black and white suits his character so much! and i think his original mostly red color pallet doesn't make mush sense for him??? but black and white or sepia colors(that i saw in other redesigns) ties down to old media forms really well!
I do think that Lavendertowne is correct about the characters fitting in to the background and not standing out enough but I think that Vivziepop knows that. You can see in almost every shot that the characters have a pretty thick lineart and even have a bit of shadow on it to separate them and honestly I think that fixes it.

i like your design for charlie, it's really cute! but one piece of feedback i can offer is that i liked your version of the sketch where her horns extended past the top of her hair best! i think that would give her a much clearer, bolder silhouette that's still recognizable as charlie, but overall, good job!
with everything happening with hazbin redesigns, I think some people have good intentions with redesigns, and some don't deserve that kind of hate.
However, to people who think that they are ''fixing'' these characters just because its in their art style and thinking its favorable, that's a bit of a problem.

i love all of these designs so much, they're amazing. (Husk is defiantly my favorite)
also for the Charlie design i personally prefer the horns to the headband, they add a stronger sense of balance to her design and them sticking out to the side adds something interesting to her silhouette
also also- if i may give a smol suggestion- it's be really cute to switch out the poodle on Nifty's skirt with a bunny. i know the poodle is iconic to those skirts but making it a bunny instead would make the bunny elements register more because there isn't a different animal breaking the theme

it’s relieving to see people redesigning hh characters out of the fandom without doing it out of spite because istg it’s so common i had my doubts when clicking the video but i’m glad this wasn’t the case. ALSO YOUR HUSK LOOKS SO GOOD?? i love that he has a more stylish look and the fact anyone can immediately tell when he died is a great detail imo :3

I love these character redesigns! In my own opinion on vaggie though, I personally think she’d be more muscular in a way, considering she did used to be those exterminator angles.

I actually really like the idea of making Vaggie a bit bigger than she was in the show. I remember when I first watched the Pilot thinking that she looked a little wrong but I wasn't quite sure how. But of the redesigns I've seen, they bulk her up a bit and she definitely looks more right (at least in my headcanon). And great job on the redesigns! I think this is one of my favorite lineup of re-thinks yet (I will admit though, I've hardly seen half a dozen)! There's probably a couple things I wouldn't have done but I can't do better, so who am I to speak!

I really like your Alastor. I appreciate whenever artists give him more prominent deer features, because when I first saw him, I didn't know he was a deer. I actually didn't know it until someone told me. I knew he was supposed to me an animal of SOME kind, because of the ears, but I couldn't see his antlers very well so I didn't notice them at first. I also like the design in general for the black-white color scheme. It suits him.
