MatPat has always had a lot of pushback for his theories, especially since theyre taken as gospel by a lot of fnaf fans. I think its good to listen to a variety of theories since nothing is truly concrete in the games
But he really deserves the credit he was the first one to discover william afton name and figure out michael afton role into the story all because of the books.
I say for the most part all his theories are incredibly good at trying to make sense of the stupid lore, with only a few theories that are kinda bad. sometimes the theory it'self doesn't bother me, sometimes it's the evidence that doesn't make sense when I would normally be fine with the theory it'self
It’s like people forget that there are whole channels on UA-cam that are just true crime podcast who clearly do not care about the victim and just wanna make it a show
Funny how she apologizes after every opinion she states as if we fnaf fans aren't the biggest fnaf haters and agree with all the hot takes, we just ignore them
i hate the fact that they won’t retire william as a villain. like wdym glitchtrap is possibly an AI copy of william from old circuit boards💀. would’ve just liked vanny being a copycat TBH, instead of her being possessed/manipulated. idk new lore kinda to sci-fi it’s very underwhelming.
They could have made Vanny one of those true crime girlies who thinks that the killer was "misunderstood" or whatever and yeah like you said turned into a copycat
Well good news we got a new antagonist, bad news it's basically an endoskeleton with a voicebox that acts like the Terminator but if it was set to Murderhobo
exactly. william, and the old story, had so many opportunities to end. fnaf 3 was a good potential ending, fnaf 4 was supported to be the ending, and ffps as the final ending and UCN as an epilogue worked well enough. they just keep bringing that guy back. let the guy die and find a NEW villain. he can still 'come back' as an idea that influences new characters to do evil
The story should have ended at fnaf 6, Henry's speech is the hardest thing to ever exist. (Also custom night as it gives a solid end to the restless spirits)
Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator really wasn't the perfect final game that everyone thinks it is. For an ending that's meant to tie up loose ends and put all the characters to rest, it sure leaves out some pretty damn important ones. The original five missing kids aren't even there officially, and no, MoltenMCI doesn't count since it's a fan theory and therefore not confirmed canon. Neither is the crying child / bite victim, he isn't referenced at all. The DCI from FNaF 2 is also never brought up ever again. I also think the overall game just doesn't make a ton of sense. Like why is Henry only doing something about the situation now? Why is he risking the life of another person and tricking them into running a fake business instead of doing the work himself? Why does he need to build a machine specifically to capture the animatronic body of his own daughter? Also Midnight Motorist was a mess that nobody asked for and completely contradicts the already flimsy sense of finality that this game was supposed to have.
@@caldercockatoo2234 theres also baby suddenly personality change between sl and pizza sim, now she have daddy issues and wants to make her daddy proud, but in sl she literally wants to kill him
i think the security breach is a fun game but you're right, it's not scary, and even if the first fnaf games weren't THAT scary either, the atmosphere was very specific and security breach seems more like an adventure game than an horror one (i think the movie is going to be something like that too)
I am a big Game Theory/GT Live fan and one thing I never understood was why Matpat got all the hate for his theories because most of the time... they're correct. For example, I saw a ton of hate on one part of his 'final timeline 4 part-er' theory he put out about the Mediocre Melodies being ripoffs. And people were angry about this for some reason. But it's true! It was confirmed very shortly after. So I while I understand feeling frustrated about some theories (Gregory being a robot) it's not fair to hate on Matpat. In my humble opinion, anyways.
I really don't think most of his theories are as factual as you think. To me the main issue is how confident Matpat was all the time. I mean he literally called his most recent timeline "the ultimate timeline" and yet a lot of it, particularly the start and end, is just complete fan-fiction. There's never any mention of the great depression or dancing bear carnivals or Mrs. Afton being the CEO anywhere in any of the games, yet he added these details anyway to try to make a proper story arc out of a series that never has been and never will be meant to have one. It doesn't matter how many times he says "it's just a theory", most people are going to spread it like fact regardless because of how much he tried to convince his audience of these things, when in reality it's just an idea of what COULD be true. Many viewers, FNaF fan and newcomer alike, are going to see these videos and assume that everything in them is correct, because why wouldn't they be? He doesn't theorize about the possibilities of FNaF's story, he tries to SOLVE it, even though that's just not possible. This is a problem that almost every single theorist in the FNaF community has, Matpat just got the most criticism for it since he's the one most people are gonna see.
I see a lot of people complaining about the hate MatPat apparently gets, but I've never seen the hate myself. If anything all I see is people worshipping him, to the point where youtubers have to make like 4 disclaimers before making the slightest criticism. I'm not saying the hate doesn't exist, but I've yet to see it for myself
scrap baby was just Elizibeth recreating her body best she could with some optimizations specifically for child murder. how she thought she'd get close to kids looking that though? I am not sure.
Im a big fan of security breach, always have been! I think it’s awesome, flaws and all! But I am SO in love with your pitch for a rewrite. A “big” mall with animatronics with the same functionality of a furby of all things?? Beautiful. Absolutely genius. I mean it! This is what security breach SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Imagine if your dear father-figure-friend-Freddy could on communicate through broken cut-up sentences directed by a friendly lost soul who wants no more than to make sure another child like them isn’t taken from this world, robbed of a future. Literally genius. Actual perfection. Imagine if the animatronics who hunted you were actually scary! Imagine if they were covered in matted fur, leathery scales and clearly fake feathers. All while the security guard you thought was trying to help you hunts you from the dusty rabbit suit they hide in, blocking off exits and making you hide from the cameras view… god this idea is EVERYTHING to me. I’d love to see this idea delved into more!id love to do my own take on it as well, with your permission, of course? If not, that’s totally ok! I get it! Anyways, this video is awesome! Even if my bot (the mimic) got dragged a lil bit. I love him, but he kinda deserved it! Thanks!
I just don’t really care about the fnaf lore at this point lol. It’s way too complicated now and it’s pretty clear Scott’s just making things up as he goes. I just like watching the theories anyways cuz for the most part they’re pretty entertaining
While I am a huge FNAF fan, I do have to admit the lore in the later games is a bit to convoluted and not realistic. I kinda wish FNAF stayed true to it’s darker roots over time. It went mostly Sci-Fi later on. Later games like SL and security breach are not bad aesthetically, and are cool concepts, but the story and gameplay of both are just not that interesting to me. Feel like it was mostly the execution of it all and how suddenly it was introduced. I agree with a lot of things said in this video. I hope the FNAF movie will return the franchises older elements that made me find it interesting. Also I gotta say, I love those FNAF 2 designs! Perfect blend between the uncanny, and endearing. Rubber masks remind me of Showbiz animatronics and I personally like that style a lot better then the hard plastic look of the original toys. I’ve never really seen too many redesigns that go for this approach besides Battington and a few others. It’s hardly seen in any fan games though. Out of all of them I’d have to say the puppet is my fav. Love how you added the clown/jester like appearance to make a more interesting looking design. (And yes, do that re-design!)
I always liked William afton as a villain but man this dude has too many things he can do. He can make animatronics. He can code himself into a game?. He also is able to make a fear gas sorta thing. I hope for the movies they stick to him being a animatronic maker. designing robots to kill kids and stuff cus I find that semi believable and freaky.I also hope they actually explain his motivations to why he kills kids.
you should TOTALLy do a redesign/rewrite! i absolutely love your time travel ocs so when i think abt u redesigning/rewriting the fnaf lore i get realll excited the way you make lore is innovative and smart!!! fr hoping u atleas redesign them 🤞🤞🤞
Hah redesign/rewrite. Not like I’m working on both of those through 2 of my projects. But I do agree tbh, but Fnaf lore is overly put down imo it’s not as complex as people make it out to be. Ig they’ve never seen the Greek god family tree or the show Once Upon a Time :p
I’ve never been all too interested in fnaf but your art keeps me alive so I am morally obligated to watch this video (which was VERY informative and cool). Thank you for another masterpiece
About michael afton, the funtimes scooped his insides out and crawled into him controlling him and as they found out the body molds they left it and gave michael remnant, and they tossed baby out so she went in and found scrap materials to build her up
Also, people exaggerate FNAF’s lore complexities. It’s not as chaotic as people make it out to be! First, many of modern FNAF’s lore details were started all the way in the Silver Eyes trilogy. I could rant for hours about this and how much is overlooked and basically confirmed but still ignored.
No, people aren't exaggerating the chaotic nature of the story and lore of FNaF at all most of the major problems with FNaF's overall story and lore primarily stems from Five Nights at Freddy's 4 where Scott really turned up the cryptic angle of the series unnecessarily and most theorists use the SIlver Eyes and the novellas in their theory-crafting so I would say its an understatement that they are overlooked because they aren't at all since they are often used by the FNaF community.
@@jasonallen6918 the issue with thenlore is that there's so much inconsistencies or thirirs made csn just be thrown off by one change in a future game. The lore for the games was honestly better off just ending at fnaf 6 because it would have been a perfect bow , i liked to see the story as Mike going to each pizzariea in order to redo the mess william does, and finally putting it to an end in fnaf 6, setting himself free, his sister free, as well as charlie(Puppet/lefty) and molten freddy. This was a good ending because it truly ended the william saga , and it really was annoying when springtrap came back as springtrap, while vanny didnt et the time to shine, i feel like vanny could have been Afton without afton exactly controlling her
The books have introduced many characters such as Afton, Henry, Charlie, Andrew, Cassidy etc etc Mimic is not the only important character from the books that enters the games
A common thing with true crime that gets pushback now is also the glorification of killers, so I agree that, in the fictional world of FNAF, giving the children lives and stories would be very impactful and likely lead to less glorification of Afton. In the series as it stands, William Afton is given a lot of sympathy due to the loss of his children (due in part to his own negligence, but whatever). He’s obviously portrayed as almost comically evil when he shows up in the games, but softened it by the excuse that “he was driven mad with grief 🥺”. The amount of people I see portray him as solely a tragic character is baffling, and I feel as though a lot less people would be comfortable with that portrayal if the franchise was even a little willing to give these children stories beyond their murders and subsequent transformation into killer animatronics.
i think Vanny shoukd have been like a crazy fangirl over william to where she basically carries on his crines even though he's dead, it would be a more intresting take on the act of killing the kids because vannys motives would just be to be like william,
I just wish Scott would've stuck to the original formula that FNaF 1 brought us, the atmosphere alone was creepy, mysterious, had an old dingy feeling (Like an early 2000s vibe, at least to me). It was perfect, and it still holds up, I think. Either way, I wish it was scary like it used to be, back when the lore wasn't so overcomplicated.
What really adds even more bullshit (as if we needed anymore) is the existence of the mimic and the shadow animatronics. This is why I personally believe that glitchtrap/burntrap are William Afton and the mimic is just a separate character
I’ve always thought fnaf’s story wasn’t carried by the games but rather dedicated fans who were willing to listen to all this bs. Like I give Scott basically no credit for the story but the community deserves praise for the work they do piecing this stuff together
Hah “constantly” He came back like 3 times (First Fnaf 3 in a Life way, then FFPS, then HW (though it’s more likely that that’s not William), then SB. And if you count the Mimic in ruin. Three or four times.)
@@Sapphire864 three or four times in a franchise with like 8 or 9 ACTUAL games is still like half or a quarter of them, if you ask me, maybe the first one was surprising but honestly i was there for the next ones and they were boring as hell i feel like after two or three times you can call it constantly because lets be honest people coming back from death is not exactly a daily occurrence
I do have to say your art is absolutely incredible. Really reminds me of real animatronics. It gives of this uncanny feeling and looks absolutely awesome. I hope the future games dive more into that realistic/ creepy atmosphere the first games gave me.
Yeah a lot of what made the franchise popular in the first place is completely gone now. The concept of possessed animatronics is ridiculous, but Scott was able to make the idea feel grounded and creepy through nostalgia, atmosphere, and subtle storytelling. The fact that the series is never able to recapture the atmosphere and horror of the first game is a shame. And as long as the newer games remain canon, I don’t think it possibly can. Scott clearly wanted to move onto something else after the 4th game. The fact that he was willing to retcon the story of the first three games into being just a dream, kinda shows that he didn’t really care about the franchise anymore. But obviously that concept didn’t sit well with fans who spent hours picking apart these games and researching the lore. This was pretty much the first red flag that Scott may have forgotten what this franchise was supposed to be, and why it appealed to so many people. But regardless, Scott clearly wasn’t invested in this franchise anymore, but at the same time, he didn’t want to leave fans with an unsatisfying ending. So he made the game he wanted to make. He made a goofy sci-fi “horror” game and slapped the fnaf brand on it. This is when the franchise lost me. The world no longer felt intriguing or believable. Theorizing about the franchise used to be so special because we genuinely wanted to learn more about this universe that we were so immersed in. The quality of the games was never really brought into question until the 4th game because people were just so immersed in the story to care, and I think that says a lot. Now it just feels like people try to uncover the lore just for the sake of it. Not because we actually care, but because that’s all fnaf really is anymore. It’s a kids franchise with extremely vague lore that will never be solved, because if it was, there would be nothing left to keep people engaged. No horror, no atmosphere, nothing. Anyways, sorry for this rant. I’ve just always been so mind blown by the first three games, and to see the franchise veer so far away from those games is a real shame. Thankfully, I think fans have been able to keep the spirit (no pun intended) of those games alive through vhs tapes, and fan games. I do hope the franchise returns to its roots, but after watching the movie, it seems very unlikely lol. There’s a lot more I could go into, but I might as well just make a yt video rant if i keep going lol. Thank you to those who read this extremely long rant. And great job on the video. You summed up a lot of my thoughts very well, and hopefully more people speak up about the direction of the franchise so we can get back on track. Hopefully Scott hands the franchise over to someone who understands why fnaf became popular in the first place. And hopefully they retcon the new games. It would only be fitting since Scott keeps trying to retcon the old ones lol. And i know it seems like i’ve just been bashing Scott, but I gotta give him credit. I think he did a brilliant job on the first three games. The concepts that he introduced such as the spring-lock suits were extremely creative, and down right brilliant. I just think the problem is that he didn’t want to make fnaf games anymore, so instead of simply making a new series, he just made games that were nothing like what fnaf once was, and just slapped the fnaf brand on it and, tried to tie it into the lore in whatever way he could. Fnaf just became an outlet for Scott to experiment and do whatever tf he wanted, which was obviously never going to work with this franchise.
I remember FNAF theories in 2014 - 2015 when there was only the trilogy of the first games. the story was complicated but it was better than now, I personally think it should have ended in the third game even though I liked the fourth game and some others.
great vid as always!! i love how the animatronics look in ur style!! quick clarification tho- william was caught sometime in the 80s but wasn't arrested as the police couldnt find the children. it's in the news clippings of fnaf 1, kinda sucks but it is what it is
First of all, what you said aboit Fnaf is so true. I just want an uncanny, small scaled paranormal weird creepy shit back. Secondly, I LOVE the artwork you made for this video. Its beautifuuul and fits the vibe of the first three games so wellll. So if you ever want to redesign the animatronics, I'll be 100% down for it.
U HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD especiually with the security breach and sister location takes. the truely creepy parts of fnaf are when things happen that shouldnt. family friendly animatronics look unsettling and hurt or kill people for unpredictable reasons. dodgy companies taking shortcuts with their equipment and producing faulty and dangeroud machinery makes it all feel so much more possible and that is the part of the franchise that sticks with me as time goes on. i desperately hope that the movie captures that side of it ;w; and i totally agree that the sci-fi stuff,,, like it can be good if done well but paranormal stuff, like ghosts, is scarier when you dont understand it!! thats why its scary!! the unknown factors are what make you feel so unsafe, which goes hand in hand with the aforementioned sketchy, unmaintained suits/animatronics etc. amazing video, i LOVE the art too it really captures the vibe of,, 'these characters or this envirment is meant to be fun and appealing,,, but something is wrong"
in the books i forgot which one but there was a part were ballora literally split a worker in half and his insides were out, and he was alive too and the workers just left him there. heartbreaking
in the books i forgot which one but there was a part were ballora literally split a worker in half and his insides were out, and he was alive too and the workers just left him there. heartbreaking
You know this video made me realize something. The animatronics became different forms of scary throughout time. Fredbear and Springbonnie were scary because they didn't know anything, but could kill you. The possessed animatronics know what's going on, but they don't know you, and will kill you if they find you. And the AI-powered SB animatronics know who you are and will hunt to kill you. They're all scary for different reasons, but fall under similar categories- what they know about whatever is happening, and what they know about you.
The reason FNAF Lore doesn't make sense is due to the fact that it isn't very consistent. We can also see this in the Novels as well. How come no one found the bodies of the missing children? Human bodies typically begin to decompose within a year, but take up to a decade to completely decompose, leaving only the skeleton. And you thought the terrible smell inside the Anymatronic will give it away? And will the person responsible for repairing the animatornic report the bodies once they are found? Why they built Springlock Suits that can kill anyone inside of it instead of simply making empty costumes. WIlliam Afton got scared like a coward over the children he killed, and went inside his deathtrap of a suit, aware of how dangerous it was, and laughed. The player didn't try to leave to save itself at all even though there were plenty of times when we could, and come back for work knowing how dangerous it was. Michael Afton aka the Player in Sister Location didn't get out of the Scooper's way despite there being enough room to evade it, and leaved the place in the first place. The Fazbear Entertainment somehow didn't get sued for all of the shady stuff that they did including selling toys that can cut fingers. The Police are shomehow incompetent that a guy can get away with murder several times. The Fazbear's Fright Employees somehow didn't notice that a dead guy was inside Springtrap. The designed for the buildings are so poorly design that the faulty wiring makes the whole place catch on fire and to move in Sister Location you have to uses the ventilation. Scott maybe is a decent game designer, but he is poor at Literature.
I do identify as a FNAF fan but I agree with the majority of your points. I personally think it lost its spark around sister location Michael’s death was confusing and rather boring, like wasn’t it supposed to do something I can’t even remember what cause it didn’t really impact the story. I think it would’ve been more interesting to have William murder him or something, finally getting revenge for the event that lead him down this path and then he would still be around but we could have a new main antagonist. I also agree with security breach it felt like a different franchise in my opinion like it’s just not it for me, I was thinking about how it would be if it was still set in the 80s or 90s; to give some time to set up a new pizza place while letting things run their course cause people must really suck to not care at all about these dead children; and I think it would much more uncanny not only because of the uncanny style but also Gregory could’ve been hiding in a spring locked suit like every moment you would be wondering if it would just snap. The potential!!! Great video! Have a nice day!
remnant feels like midecholrians to me, only worse, explaining something that doesn't need to be explained, except instead of the force, it's the possession of robots by murdered children, like it's a lot creepier and more interesting if there's not some sci-fi bullshit explanation of it
Scrapbaby is the scooped endoskeleton of baby separated from Ennard, and the rest of her is junk she used to rebuild her body. Scraptrap, Scott usually designs and redesigns things because he thinks they are cool or scary or he just likes the designs. Toy Chica and Scraptrap are examples which he commented on before. Scott actually outright stated that he is not canon to the games, and that the games exist in the world to explain the non canon characters. Most MatPat criticisms is followed up with reasons why he is wrong I noticed. That aside I think MatPat's theories actively spread misinformation. I would point to no his Mario video as the prime example, with the addition of him admitting he twists information and leaves out important contradicting information to create a narrative using said Mario video as an example.
im one of the people who believe fnaf honestly should have ended at the 3rd of 4th game. the endings in those games make the most sense story-telling wise, but still left things up to interpretation. which is always nice in fandoms revolved around games
I feel like Security Breach would have been so much creepier had it been set in something like... the old Lollihop in Munich maybe? I haven't been there in many many years, but I remember the atmosphere clearly It's an indoor playground kinda thing and actually has some of the things shown in SB! Especially the giant jungle gym really took me back to my childhood. I remember getting lost in it, and set in a horror game that would be TERRIFYING! Looking out the mesh on the sides, seeing where you need to get, but not knowing how to get there? Scaryyy
I really think the Mimic could work, I mean let's imagine this, an AI which learnt how to mimic victims and victimizers, just put it in a more realistic setting and this would be powerful, like for example instead of a futuristic mall, is a small town restaurant where there aren't animatronics, but employees wearing mascot costumes, and in the night the costumes started to moving on their own because someone or something is wearing them, yiacks
my thing abt security breach is that its set in the future with better tech. the intention to be fun entertainment for kids is still there, only now they have the know-how to actually do that. it wouldnt make sense for the glamrocks to have that same uncanny valley edge with how advanced technology would be in the future
A common misconception, Scott has gone out of his way to state that he is not canon. It's obvious that the indie dev is a stand in, but he's not just Scott. In fact, the life of this indie developer and how they came to develop the in universe games is shown in one of the many stories of Tales from the Pizzaplex. People debate the books' canonicity constantly, but this is one of those stories that explains/shows something that has no equivalent elsewhere nor contradictions due to similar events from the games. Another point is that Help Wanted does not make everything before it vaguely capable of any and all retconning. Everything from the games before Help Wanted are still as canon as they were before. One of the hidden tapes in HW even state this exact thing, Fazbear Entertainment is trying to cover up the past as exaggerations or false events through the indie dev and VR title, and that all of these stories and rumors are in fact true. Scott also addressed in the same post about him being canon or not that the reason the games now exist in universe was to explain how all of these characters and events, even established non canon material such as FNaF4's Halloween Edition were able to come together in one singular in universe experience. It's meant to be confusing with the eventual reveal through the tapes that it's another one of FE's attempts to muddy the past, but most people seem to have either forgotten that tape or simply aren't familiar with it's intention of revealing the canon as still fully intact. I feel it would've been better to not cause such confusion in the first place, but I also haven't ever been in a position to make a mini game collection of various different unconnected events part of a series' canon.
Thank you so much for saying that Help Wanted outright stated that the events of the games prior are *still canon in-universe events that actually happened.* It's very confusing that this misconception is so common when it's one of the rare bits of *explicit storytelling* to come out of the games.
@@B_D-g3q Tales from the Pizzaplex has a story to explain the indie dev. It's someone named Steve Snodgrass who was contracted by Fazbear Entertainment to make the games.
The video by Bumbles McFumbles is the best explanation of the timeline in my opinion. As it truly shows how little sense it makes. Did Sister location take place before Fnaf 1? During 4? After 3? Who knows
I think that alone FNAF SB is an amazing game. It's so cool in concept (it does have it's faults though) but when you consider it's supposed to be part of a HORROR franchise... It all falls apart along with the story. If someone made the concept of FNAF SB as a separate game I think I'd love it so much but it disappoints in the lack of horror
Subscribed for more information about hamilton and this video gave me reason to continue being subrscribed. Keep up the good work, really enjoying the topics!
Scott didn't make child murder technical, he made ghosts technical, I had satisfaction learning how these ghosts suddenly started haunting these robots.
I absolutely LOVE the rendering style on both of the pieces!! You did such an amazing job making them realistic but also stylized- I can't look away from them omg!!❤
Know I’m a few months behind but I’m at 8:20 they actually say in the news articles in the first game that after the 5th child died someone was arrested and convicted (probably Henry) and if their were no killings after that no one’s gonna look at William any further
As a person who loved to watch gacha fnaf, the lore isn't that hard to piece together, but then again I stopped following along with fnaf just when secutity breach came out C.C, Elizabeths and William's deaths are animated on yt somewhere I'm pretty sure we know the names of the kids in the main 4 animatronics too
Late to the party, but the reason why William wasn't caught for the Charlie Murder are many. First, we don't know home much the Facial System good actually works, also considering that the Fazbear Ent. in not that of a honest company and the possibility that William could tempered the animatronics make me really doubt that will actually work. Plus, the Charlie Murder happened in a heavy rain night, outside a restaurant, and at the time (IIRC) the Marionette worked using an armlet system to recognize Charlie.
Personally I love fnaf and the lore doesn’t become an issue if you view security breach as a different continuity like the books or movie. I feel like people tend to forget that the story of the games are supposed to be in the back burner and you can puzzle it together if you want. That’s a part of the fun is the community making their own timelines. Also the story is written in such a fun way using phone guy and mini games. You also gotta realize each game was going to be last in scotts mind - side note I really recommend dawkos interview with Scott if you got the time - so that being said I think Scott did an amazing job making each game for what it is and there’s aspects of the games and story that truly make it the best for me
10:07 well there’s different groups of people that have little morals and more greedy than the average person. Sometimes those people run well businesses say a pizzeria. Well, let’s think about it for a bit different people with very less morals and only care about money getting more influence stuff like that. Well sometimes “makes things go away”. And sometimes the business owner even lied to their customers
I think the reason William wasn’t caught is like a Ted Bundy situation where at first glance he seems like a trustworthy guy and doesn’t seem capable of violence as people thought. Nobody would suspect him because he own a family friendly restaurant and has a family of his own, ThEREs nO WaY HE CoUlD bE a KiLlEr RiGhT?
I love the way you did the gang, especially Chica It definitely has more of that nostalgic vibe of a character in an establishment that kids love but also would terrify the hell outta some kids too
I think the biggest problem for me is William. He was cool in the beginning and I really liked him as a character, but once Scott Cawthon and Steel Wool figured out how marketable he was, everything derailed. I’m gonna be a bit controversial and say that his best appearances were in FNaF 3, The Silver Eyes and FNaF:SL in that order, with the last one being a bit of a stretch. My main problem with him is that he doesn’t have a consistent personality or character motivation. In the first three games, he was a nameless slasher villain and I truly think that’s where he peaked as a character because people were able to draw their own conclusions about his identity and motives, for better or for worse... (Looking at you, Rebornica.) In SL, he was a mad scientist, which… kind of took me out of the story, but I thought his relationship with his daughter was interesting because he truly seemed to care about her, at least enough to protect her, which added some nuance to his character. Note that this was before he was portrayed as an abusive shitwad in The Fourth Closet. In The Silver Eyes, he was revealed to be the cofounder of Fredbear’s, which actually answered a lot of questions in retrospect, such as how he got away with the murders and how he knew about the saferoom. This is where he really shines because he’s with the main cast for a good chunk of the book. In this book, he’s portrayed as mentally unwell, incredibly angry at Henry for unclear reasons (probably his own mental health issues) and he thinks he’s doing something good by killing children, which is a very interesting take on the character that sadly gets scrapped shortly after. It’s also shown that he was somewhat normal while working at Freddy’s but after he broke it off with Henry, his health deteriorated, shown by his dull eyes, severe weight loss and general unpleasantness. The Twisted Ones was fine, it’s just not notable enough to mention. FNaF 6’s portrayal of him was actually a bit lackluster, especially compared to Henry’s portrayal. His redesign was ugly as shit, his voice lines were just “I’m evil, British and cocky” repeated over and over again with different phrasing and his interesting relationship with his children was completely removed, making him aggressive towards his son for no reason (didn’t he explicitly ask for Mike’s help?) and uncharacteristically dismissive towards Liz for no clear reason, something that would become a pattern in later depictions of the character. The Fourth Closet Will was dumb and weird and I didn’t like him. (Come on, how the hell is he alive and human when in the last book, he was left rotting in an unwashed fursuit for over a year???) This book also introduced the concept of remnant, which was a major turning point in the series that (in my opinion) irreversibly ruined everything that ever was and ever will be. Fuck you, remnant. UCN was good, but that’s only because he had no speaking lines. The Springtrap variants don’t count, they’re not real. And then everything after UCN was shit. He shouldn’t have come back. He shouldn’t have been a sentient computer virus. He shouldn’t have a Scarecrow-style fear gas chamber because that’s just stupid. *And for the love of god, he shouldn’t have impregnated MatPat with a horrible gremlin baby.* But I digress. William Afton has lost his touch because his writers just use him as a vague concept of an evil guy instead of a real character in his own right. You could replace the name “William Afton” with “Ash Ketchum” in any of the later books and it would make just about as much sense.
I can't say I dislike the Mimic entirely, but I don't think it's that great of a villain. It's a robot with no sentience that mimics whatever it can find for its advantage in order to do its purpose - recreate FNaF in real life, probably. But it only does it because that's its command, that's what it was made to do, not because it "wants to", nor because it's possessed by some spirit of a mad person. It's too sci-fi to me. I like sci-fi a lot in general, but to me, it just never mixed with FNaF in a way I enjoyed. Back in 2014, I thought the first few games were the scariest thing ever, and they prompted me to want to learn more about what they were inspired by - animatronics in pizza places, like Chuck E.Cheese and Showbiz Pizza Place. In my country, we had none of that culture, but ever since I saw FNaF, I discovered what an animatronic was, and afterwards I learned a lot about the mascots of these places ever since, as well as about actual endoskeletons and animatronic costumes. It's 90s tech, it's old, it's not that great, it was made to convey the illusion of a cartoon character coming to life, it was even shown off and advertised for how advanced it was for the time in expositions and museums and sometimes even in the actual restaurants. I look at this and I look at sci-fi, and it's like looking at a square peg and a triangle hole - they just don't fit. To me at least. On the other hand, I know how a lot of people still enjoy this new direction, and I can still enjoy it for what it is... just not at the same level of seriousness as the prior games. I stopped obsessing over the lore quite a long time ago... and that ended up becoming a good thing, for me and for a lot of people. The feeling of creative freedom to write different lores and stories ended up becoming much grander, and I've seen more and more people take different approaches and such.
Aghh this video is so spot on with everything. I was a fnaf obsessed kid at the time of 1 and 2, started losing interest by 3 and was not there for everything that followed. I'm for sure very biased but I think the first game was the peak of the franchise, made more interesting by leaving the story vague and focusing on atmosphere. Every quality that made me like it got sanded off with each new release...
I like to think everything in the games still did happen, and the games with in the games were made to cover up the actual events in the games making light of them
There’s been a lot of theory’s and different lore conspiracies popping left and right. At this point, I don’t know what the lore is anymore. I’m just gonna cross fingers and hope one day Scott will make a post or something about the entire lore.
Scott in HW isn't canon, he made a post about that and anyone who'd know what Scott looks like should've been able to see the post he made about it not being him.
YES THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS!! Ive never heard anyone else talk about this short story!! It is my absolute favorite short story because of how unsettled I felt reading it
I LOVEEEE this video! Thank you for having the guts to point all the flaws out. If you haven’t already, I recommend uhyeah’s rundown of sister location, and wendigoons lore video. They’re both really good imo!
Honestly I would have just rewrite the lore to make it less complex and more realistic but still try to fix the source material. I did have several ideas but at the same time, there are a lot of cool rewrites out there that are really good. However I’m interested if you had any ideas of how you would rewrite the lore.
personally, i like mike's death a lot solely because of how uncanny it would be for his neighbors. imagine your good pal mike afton walking down the street each day and slowly rotting before your eyes. that's horrifying! him continuing to live on after ennard leave his body? sure. if there was a concrete reason then that'd be pretty cool. my main complaint is how his body crumples in on itself after ennard leaves, essentially just leaving mike as a pile of skin... and then he gets up? huh??? there's no explanation for why he can suddenly defy the laws of physics. "you won't die", okay circus baby. i won't complain much about the validity of him "living" because that's pure fiction and the games can do whatever with that, i don't care too much. i just wish there was a reason for his body to suddenly be able to stand up with no bones, muscles, or literally anything inside of it anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Make a lot of good points & it makes me curious on how things could be if edited & fixed As much as I love Glamrock Freddy & enjoy the scenery in Security Breach the game has issues. There is unused audio that shows for whatever reason Vanessa's personality was changed last minute. The fact the movie is more understandable & it's a different universe to the games. I'm rambling & getting lost but it'd be nice to see things work if a more understandable lore fix happened. Like you said.
Please do the redesign video!! Your speedpaints were sick!! :D Also as a huge fnaf fan myself I’d mostly agree on the Security Breach part. Yeah- Though I still think the Mimic is cool the games are just soo underwhelming fr
this is insanely well edited, thought out and the art is stunning. you're gonna be the next big art UA-camr for sure. thank you so much for the content and the inspiration!!!
It’s meant to not make sense, oddly enough. Scott likes (loves, even) leaving people questioning everything. It’s genius, but only for a little while. I think he’s on the edge of “nothing makes sense so I give up on trying to make it make sense”. He’s really pushing it right now but I’ve been a fan for so long so I feel like I *have* to stay. Something in me will not allow me to leave 🥲
The first three games were great because there actually were answers but they were just presented as like a mystery, a puzzle we could solve. By the time the fourth game came out it felt like Scott was just trying as hard as possible to confuse us and make it super ambiguous.
I like to think that the main story, the complete story ended with ultimate custom night. The building in pizzaria sim burns down and the souls can actually leave, William is trapped in hell and his kids can finally rest and the whole security breach and everything after is an alternate universe, like the books.
MatPat has always had a lot of pushback for his theories, especially since theyre taken as gospel by a lot of fnaf fans. I think its good to listen to a variety of theories since nothing is truly concrete in the games
that’s true, i tried not to take everything matpat said as 100 percent true, it’s good to have other perspectives!
I agree ever tho I love matpat it’s good to see other things sometimes
But he really deserves the credit he was the first one to discover william afton name and figure out michael afton role into the story all because of the books.
Honestly I’d make my own theory but it’s so much effort so I just follow MatPats 😭
I say for the most part all his theories are incredibly good at trying to make sense of the stupid lore, with only a few theories that are kinda bad. sometimes the theory it'self doesn't bother me, sometimes it's the evidence that doesn't make sense when I would normally be fine with the theory it'self
honestly the fnaf horror attraction being based off of the missing children sadly sounds like something that would happen in real life.
i always loved how creative the setting changes were fnaf 2-4. maybe even 5 too

i hate the fact that they won’t retire william as a villain. like wdym glitchtrap is possibly an AI copy of william from old circuit boards💀. would’ve just liked vanny being a copycat TBH, instead of her being possessed/manipulated. idk new lore kinda to sci-fi it’s very underwhelming.
They could have made Vanny one of those true crime girlies who thinks that the killer was "misunderstood" or whatever and yeah like you said turned into a copycat
@@milkak6823THIS!! It was literally so perfect to make her into a deranged copycat killer who’s seeking you out because her weird dream failed

FR
Or it should ended in fnaf 3 lol
Facts. The Entire Fnaf saga should've ended at Fnaf 6
@@caldercockatoo2234 theres also baby suddenly personality change between sl and pizza sim, now she have daddy issues and wants to make her daddy proud, but in sl she literally wants to kill him
i think the security breach is a fun game but you're right, it's not scary, and even if the first fnaf games weren't THAT scary either, the atmosphere was very specific and security breach seems more like an adventure game than an horror one (i think the movie is going to be something like that too)

i feel like the problem is that scott should really just let the theorists be right for once!
Cuz people act like he's Gospel, like he's the Messiah.
@@AbbeyYardwhile I get the frustration it's not really Mat's fault people don't understand what a theory is.
That night guard fit is such a slay.
scrap baby was just Elizibeth recreating her body best she could with some optimizations specifically for child murder. how she thought she'd get close to kids looking that though?
Thanks!

im pretty sure hes always been making shit up as he goes. i gave up trying to figure it out years ago, sb was just the final nail in the coffin 🤷🏼♂️
I like that movie Afton is just some loser lol
Thanks for watching! Sorry some of the text got cut off ugh, i hope you can still read most of it :)

samesies
About michael afton, the funtimes scooped his insides out and crawled into him controlling him and as they found out the body molds they left it and gave michael remnant, and they tossed baby out so she went in and found scrap materials to build her up
Also, people exaggerate FNAF’s lore complexities. It’s not as chaotic as people make it out to be!
First, many of modern FNAF’s lore details were started all the way in the Silver Eyes trilogy. I could rant for hours about this and how much is overlooked and basically confirmed but still ignored.
It also certainly helps I’ve been baking a theory for a while now
It also helps that now, thanks to Ruin, the lore can be divided into two eras: the Afton era and Mimic era!
This was a good ending because it truly ended the william saga , and it really was annoying when springtrap came back as springtrap, while vanny didnt et the time to shine, i feel like vanny could have been Afton without afton exactly controlling her
@@jasonallen6918 well in my opinion but I can understand this stuff well tho
Markipliers deadpan "I win" followed by the children cheering always takes me out. The sudden tone shift is way too funny 🤣
I’ve always thought fnaf’s story wasn’t carried by the games but rather dedicated fans who were willing to listen to all this bs. Like I give Scott basically no credit for the story but the community deserves praise for the work they do piecing this stuff together
no bc ur so real for this video, remnant and william constantly coming back is when i gave up on the series
Hah “constantly”

I've already seen the film, and I'll tell you, the story is much simpler and semi-realistic to the real world.
I haven't been there in many many years, but I remember the atmosphere clearly
It's an indoor playground kinda thing and actually has some of the things shown in SB!
Thank you so much for saying that Help Wanted outright stated that the events of the games prior are *still canon in-universe events that actually happened.*
It's very confusing that this misconception is so common when it's one of the rare bits of *explicit storytelling* to come out of the games.
The indie dev is probably FNAF 3 phone dude. He’s voiced by Scott so it makes sense him having Scott’s face. Also it fits his character.
@@B_D-g3q Tales from the Pizzaplex has a story to explain the indie dev. It's someone named Steve Snodgrass who was contracted by Fazbear Entertainment to make the games.
Steve snodgrass is literally such a bad name
@@B_D-g3q Yeah.
28:50 This makes me wish that we got an actual FNAF Movie game
The video by Bumbles McFumbles is the best explanation of the timeline in my opinion. As it truly shows how little sense it makes.
Did Sister location take place before Fnaf 1? During 4? After 3? Who knows
I think that alone FNAF SB is an amazing game. It's so cool in concept (it does have it's faults though) but when you consider it's supposed to be part of a HORROR franchise... It all falls apart along with the story. If someone made the concept of FNAF SB as a separate game I think I'd love it so much but it disappoints in the lack of horror
I really love the fnaf games up until pizza sim , and i take it as the final closing chapter cause it has the most badass ending line from henry
Tbf, in the first murder it was raining pretty heavily, you could argue the rain tampered the crime scene
i felt like scott really wanted to continue the series but it just didnt make sense but still did it for the fans
I’ve always thought the toy and animatronics were never possessed and I thought I was due to their AI going haywire like phone guy said
I love your designs so much! They might even look better than their original designs.
The same lore who have facial recognition in the 80s
Omg I love the purple guy cosplay sprite!
I'm so glad this has been brought up!Honestly stopped the lore after ultimate custom night lolol
Know I’m a few months behind but I’m at 8:20 they actually say in the news articles in the first game that after the 5th child died someone was arrested and convicted (probably Henry) and if their were no killings after that no one’s gonna look at William any further
I’m in love with your videos 😭
aw thank youuu
As a person who loved to watch gacha fnaf, the lore isn't that hard to piece together, but then again I stopped following along with fnaf just when secutity breach came out
C.C, Elizabeths and William's deaths are animated on yt somewhere
I'm pretty sure we know the names of the kids in the main 4 animatronics too
Scott should have never let the community make the story
.....scott never make that actually?
If it were like that, I assure you that many things would be different in fnaf
Great video! Also, I love your character design (png) you use for your vids!
It hasn’t made sense for almost a decade now
love the video!! and you should totally do a redesign video bc scraptrap NEEDS it 😭
I absolutely love your versions of the characters, they have the slight uncanny feeling but are also charming!
I love this style so much and I hope you do more videos and art like this
Remnant: The Midi-chlorians of the FNAF series.
some fnaf fans doesn’t realise that most fnaf game lore is speculation and fanon theories
You see you're absolutely right the lore doesn't make sense, but that won't stop the confidence of Matt pat and his army of Faz fans
I love the way you did the gang, especially Chica
It definitely has more of that nostalgic vibe of a character in an establishment that kids love but also would terrify the hell outta some kids too
I think the biggest problem for me is William.
(Looking at you, Rebornica.)
In SL, he was a mad scientist, which… kind of took me out of the story, but I thought his relationship with his daughter was interesting because he truly seemed to care about her, at least enough to protect her, which added some nuance to his character.
*And for the love of god, he shouldn’t have impregnated MatPat with a horrible gremlin baby.*
But I digress. William Afton has lost his touch because his writers just use him as a vague concept of an evil guy instead of a real character in his own right. You could replace the name “William Afton” with “Ash Ketchum” in any of the later books and it would make just about as much sense.
fantastic video, great storytelling ❤❤
tysm!!
Scott has confirmed the missing children’s names.
Freddy:Gabriel
Bonnie:Jeramy
Chica:Susie
Foxy:Fritz’s
Golden Freddy: Cassidy
There will come soft rains is also one of my favorite short stories ever!
I like to think everything in the games still did happen, and the games with in the games were made to cover up the actual events in the games making light of them
This art is amazing btw
Make a lot of good points & it makes me curious on how things could be if edited & fixed
As much as I love Glamrock Freddy & enjoy the scenery in Security Breach the game has issues.
Also as a huge fnaf fan myself I’d mostly agree on the Security Breach part. Yeah-
Though I still think the Mimic is cool the games are just soo underwhelming fr
this is insanely well edited, thought out and the art is stunning. you're gonna be the next big art UA-camr for sure. thank you so much for the content and the inspiration!!!
20:43 Scott Cawthon himself confirmed in a Reddit post that the rogue indie dev is NOT him.
