great video! btw, i believe the infection au trend was actually created by mlp fans and then became a trend among other fandoms bc it became so popular, not the other way around! p sure it began with either users pony...5 or osushat, who created the pestraobia series. after pestraobia, user bunnyizcute made the smile virus series, which gained a tooon of popularity and made it a trend. but it only became a fandom-wide trend around the time two other au's, my little worms and divine swamp fever (shining armor happy to see his bbg), blew up. in fact i even saw cosplays for my little worms, its insane how this all started and peaked over the course of only 1 month 😭

the pony fandom was such a big thing in my life and I was honestly way into it when i was younger, along with creepy pastas, but god the horror videos really needed warning before they just randomly shoved gore in your face.
also, I totally love your au. Even though I can’t do body horror - but love horror at the same time - I was following along with the story because it’s super cool!!! The ponies seem to be very interesting characters so far and I’m really curious to see how the story evolves :D
This was mainly because those old horror stories/videos were made by mainly men who didn't see the reason to use trigger warnings. They all saw gore in films before, or had "interests" that placed the uncomfortable imagery at a norm for them. Some would go as far as to make the content as appealing to children as possible in order to scare them on purpose. Notice how these videos exist in a vacuum with zero context, save a fanfiction somewhere. However now a lot of this content ARE being flagged with horror aspects, they HAVE actual story reasons and plot relevancies, they DO have context and aren't gore for the sake of. They take a genuine interest in the horror instead of just wanting to scare kids.
It took me a few years to realize Story of the Blanks is a horror-spin on the negative effects of Poison Joke / Cutie Poxs. And because the village was so sheltered they thought it was a curse. 😭
If I recall correctly, SotB came out _before_ The Cutie Pox (though still after Bridle Gossip). That just makes it more curious... I wonder what Sunny Town's denizens would have called the "Heart's Desire" flower, if it really is their reason for believing CMs are a curse?
When you think about it, it’s strange that they added something as dark as Swamp Fever into a show like MLP. They never state that the pony is “alive” when they transform into a tree, so as far as we know Swamp Fever is the only fatal disease that’s canonical.
There's another one in the comics named Nightmare that's a parasite that takes over ponies and controls their actions plus mind turning them into a hateful version of themselves named Nightmares, who seek to destroy everything in their path due to blood lust, and it has no cure. Rarity got infected in one of the comics
I love that for the ponies you're using background characters (i'm talking about the first, idk if the others are compleraly original) it's really creative to grab background characters and give them story
thats literally why i used to be in MLP fandom, the fans gave the background characters such defining traits that it even outshines the mane six for me lol.
I love the infection AUs, but it is so hard for my brain to not scream about all the inaccuracies with some of these AUs (ex: Prion diseases arent found in horses IRL) because I'm a microbiology major & its a special interest of mine. I definitely loved MLP growing up.

@@trashotaku neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc are caused by prion-like prionoids. Though those aren't transmissible from person to person or animal to animal. I absolutely LOVE your concepts for this one! The fact that the infected get increasingly brain dead but are still aware of what is happening is absolutely heartbreaking (and PERFECT fodder for angst). I feel like I need a fanfic for your world now because hoooly crap I love it. Also nurse readheart has always been one of my favorite background characters so I am especially happy to see her here. I always love watching doctor types in zombie type situations anyway because it’s just so JUICY and the INNER TURMOIL that comes with everything is just so edible. I think these aus are fascinating and there's been some really cool stuff done with them but it pisses me off when people will have a more cutsey look on the first few slides (maybe even using the shows assets) BUT WONT PUT A WARNING FOR THE HORROR. As someone who survived the brony fandom it reminds me of how cupcakes and smile HD were made to look like cute videos to mess with kids and even if that isn't people's intentions, it's sad to see that we haven't learned :(
Yeah, I went through the same, and I have that same concern/fear too. Even with the warnings I'm concerned that children with unsupervised internet access will disregard the warnings, and get traumatized regardless since parents still to refuse to make sure their children ( as in younger than 13 ) are safe online. The most we as people online can do is have the warnings, but not even everyone uses warnings for content like this, which is just the cycle repeating itself. Kudos to the people that do put warnings though!
yea, the amount of videos i clicked on when i was young thinking it was an innocent mlp vid, even thinking some were official, and then getting jumpscared by gore scarred me. hopefully more ppl will add warnings and children nowadays have parental surpervision :)

When it comes to more modern MLP horror content, I always find how a writer handles (or doesn't handle) Discord. Cause, you know, having a magical immortal being with very few canonical weaknesses and seemingly no limit to his power, who also happens to be very protective of one of the main characters, kinda poses a problem if you want a horror story. From the little I've looked into it, most seem to just ignore him, which is fair. But I have seen a few where he's the unintentional source of the disease, or simply unable to cure it and instead helps Fluttershy care for the injured.
i like this au a lot. I've gotten bored of seeing the mane 6 in these scenarios over and over again, it's refreshing seeing someone utilizing other existing characters for their aus.
There's something ironic about this trend spreading when the trend itself is about,well,infections,something that spreads. As someone who came across those creepypastas when younger,this is rather interesting to see. People are incredibly creative. I must say,my favorite variation are the ones who don't paint Fluttershy as weak but instead acknowledge what a powerhouse she is with Discord being so attached to her,all the animals she can communicate with,not to mention still having some of Flutterbat in her... And the best part is that these are way better done than what I had,some may label it as generic "mandela catalogue" horror in some cases but many I've seen are genuinely well done and actually creep me out,the things I had were a little generic gore (not all of it,but the very big ones were) like Cupcakes was written purely for shock value. All these infection AUs?? These things are GREAT! The art,the genuine dread,it's pretty good There should be a study on why things such as My Little Pony are so easy to "corrupt" one could say. It's a phenomenon I've seen in my entire fandom life. If the product is somewhat lighthearted or sweet,the fandom sooner or later will make something dark out of it. And yet things that are already dark,sometimes they get the silliest fandoms. Funnily enough while MLP got those things,the creepypasta fandom was... Very much a meme? Certan incidents aside,it seemed like nobody took these killers seriously lol
Thing is the content doesn't have to be cute and sweet,people make edgelord stuff out of everything, you just notice it more when it's a cute show because of the contrast.

There is a g5 fandom but it’s very small lol. I really like it tho because everyone is really nice to each other and it’s a lot more child friendly then the g4 fandom lol. And I’m saying that as someone who was a child during the “brony craze”

im not even an mlp fan but there’s something genuinely so beautiful about mlp infection AUs to me, not because of the actual contents of the AUs , but the fact that the grimdarks from the 2010s that everyone is now looking back on are actually back, and now theres gonna be new adults looking back like “hey remember those silly mlp horror stories we made? good times” just like current adults who grew up in the mlp fandom. it really shows that if an old thing is loved, it will come back in a new form!
I´m one month late. But if I remember correctly, between 2014-2017 there was a fan comic where the whole Ponyvillle was infected with a mortal sickness. As time passed, they would get black marks, and when they died their body would be like a shadow (or full black idk), all doctors were depressed and as the big energy giver in Ponyville, Pinkie was there to support everyone. The thing, is that Pinkie got infected too. And when she died, she met "death" itself, she said to him "If I make you laugh, you will revive me", he agreed, thinking that she wouldn´t suceed, but, after a week she revived, and lived then till 100
when i saw silver zoom i was so happy he has one of the coolest bg pony designs ive seen and aside from DJ pon3 adn bon bon is one of my favorite bg/side characters, aswell as red heart ofc! its so cool ur using them as focuses in your infected story :)

I was a pony fan for a few years in my late teens but I usually avoided creepypasta because I had so much anxiety as a kid and got scared easily lol i still know a bunch of the songs from the show and the fandom. My brother and I used to sing Discord together all the time
It’s interesting seeing the differences between the TikTok side of this vs the Tumblr side!! For example, on Tumblr it’s almost always Fluttershy who’s patient zero (or at the very least, the patient zero of the Mane 6 specifically), and the infections stick to canon far more than on TikTok (who tend to prefer working with horror closer to other series such as the Walten Files and other analogue horror)

Heres my AU since I dont wanna be attacked on tiktok! The infection is called the cupcake disease its basically what it sounds like, the infection is usually in a cupcake or sweet and can be passed down by a bite or open wound that has not been treated for 30 minutes. Pinkie Pie is immune and so is Apple Jack. The first infected is Twilight sparkle, she was unaware of the infection and she was hungry so she ate a cupcake. Shortly after she started to have some symptoms of the infection which was, Memory loss, Agression, Insomia, Anxiety and Coughing blood. Fluttershy saw her and took her to Miss redheart but when they got to her it was too late. She was already at phase 2 of the infection. Her eyes started to go back into her head and her limbs started to out stretch which made it hard to move correctly. Fluttershy escaped in time, but not miss redheart. Shortly after PinkiePie came across Fluttershy and took her to her bakery. Fluttershy ate some bread and left, as she left she took a knife for protection (Might add more later) The phases Phase 1/4: The pony will as i said for Twilight, Memory loss, Agression, Insomia, Anxiety, Coughing blood and loss of eye sight Phase 2/4: Out stretched limbs, Eyes going into their head, her memories wiped away Phase 3/4: Eyes can barely be seen, blind, Weak, barely can walk, mouth is out stretched Phase 4/4: *Death*

I think the infection aus started with mlp and then spread to other shows as it gets popular. Idk who made the first one but it got popular when a Spanish creator made multiple episodes of "my little worms"

Story of the blanks has inspired me into making a story similar to this but cranked up to eleven. The antagonist being a very realistic looking horse with human hands instead of hooves he's the mayor of the village and outlawed cutie marks because it's seen as heresy by the mayor and the eldars. They gave the mayor a pass cause he's special in terms of status. Specifically because of his hands. With hands like those you can do EVERYTHING.
The My Little Pony Grimdark and Horror when I was a small child made me extremely desensitized to it, even things like parasites and heavy gore (yet I'm still scared of needles-)
hello, my friend. i am the resident brony, and i'd like to talk for a moment. i showed up in 2021 and only caved in on the show after seeing massive amounts of positive mlp stuff that i liked, and expected to leave after seeing a few shitty episodes. i really liked the opening with nightmare moon and her plan to remove the sun from existance and freeze everyone to death/slowly starve everyone, killing everyone. so i stuck around, watched every episode in like 6 months because i loved it, read the keepers of discord, listened to a whole bunch of songs, and reached wings of fire levels of obsession. (i really like wings of fire by the way.) and so that takes me to my current spell of sadness after finding out how dissapointing g5 is. i used to severely judge stories by their appearances, and the past year completely changed my opinions on that.
I feel like a big part of the mlp fandom almost maturing as a whole over time from the awkward brony phase, though the dark edge what-if-the-cutsie-perfect-utopia-were-dark phase, to an understanding that despite the show being rooted in being targeted for children also kept in mind its older audience watching for nostalgia or just escaping how most shows feel they need to be heavy and adult to be nuanced - especially the slice of life episode - and the creepypasta aspect of mlp kind of did originate from an edgelord phase, but became a catharsis of exploring the mlp world in a darker setting - albeit needing a bit of retconning to have the mlp world actually able to not just be entirely traumatized by anything more than a creepy face. So its cool that its come full circle and inspired some really interesting or even moving storywriting with such a simple concept.
I really love how well your au is starting out, the way the infected seems.. longer and more tall as the body forms into a tree gives reason to why they look like this rather than 'ooo spooky long pony' I also seen the trees in the backround are actually ponies

It took me a few years to realize Story of the Blanks is a horror-spin on the negative effects of Poison Joke / Cutie Poxs. And because the village was so sheltered they thought it was a curse. 😭
If I recall correctly, SotB came out _before_ The Cutie Pox (though still after Bridle Gossip). That just makes it more curious... I wonder what Sunny Town's denizens would have called the "Heart's Desire" flower, if it really is their reason for believing CMs are a curse?

When you think about it, it’s strange that they added something as dark as Swamp Fever into a show like MLP.
They never state that the pony is “alive” when they transform into a tree, so as far as we know Swamp Fever is the only fatal disease that’s canonical.
There's a ton of diseases in the comics and show.
There's another one in the comics named Nightmare that's a parasite that takes over ponies and controls their actions plus mind turning them into a hateful version of themselves named Nightmares, who seek to destroy everything in their path due to blood lust, and it has no cure. Rarity got infected in one of the comics

I love the infection AUs, but it is so hard for my brain to not scream about all the inaccuracies with some of these AUs (ex: Prion diseases arent found in horses IRL) because I'm a microbiology major & its a special interest of mine.

@@trashotaku neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc are caused by prion-like prionoids. Though those aren't transmissible from person to person or animal to animal. I'm not sure if those effect horses though. But they're the second closest thing to prion disease.

The fact that the infected get increasingly brain dead but are still aware of what is happening is absolutely heartbreaking (and PERFECT fodder for angst). I feel like I need a fanfic for your world now because hoooly crap I love it. Also nurse readheart has always been one of my favorite background characters so I am especially happy to see her here. I always love watching doctor types in zombie type situations anyway because it’s just so JUICY and the INNER TURMOIL that comes with everything is just so edible.

I think these aus are fascinating and there's been some really cool stuff done with them but it pisses me off when people will have a more cutsey look on the first few slides (maybe even using the shows assets) BUT WONT PUT A WARNING FOR THE HORROR. As someone who survived the brony fandom it reminds me of how cupcakes and smile HD were made to look like cute videos to mess with kids and even if that isn't people's intentions, it's sad to see that we haven't learned :(
Yeah, I went through the same, and I have that same concern/fear too. Even with the warnings I'm concerned that children with unsupervised internet access will disregard the warnings, and get traumatized regardless since parents still to refuse to make sure their children ( as in younger than 13 ) are safe online. The most we as people online can do is have the warnings, but not even everyone uses warnings for content like this, which is just the cycle repeating itself. Kudos to the people that do put warnings though!

yea, the amount of videos i clicked on when i was young thinking it was an innocent mlp vid, even thinking some were official, and then getting jumpscared by gore scarred me. hopefully more ppl will add warnings and children nowadays have parental surpervision :)

One thing i love about these infection tiktoks is they almost alwys include a warning about horror. I remember being a kid and watching mlp videos and none of them ever warned about gore or horror themes, could have saved me a lot of nightmares if they had
When it comes to more modern MLP horror content, I always find how a writer handles (or doesn't handle) Discord. Cause, you know, having a magical immortal being with very few canonical weaknesses and seemingly no limit to his power, who also happens to be very protective of one of the main characters, kinda poses a problem if you want a horror story. From the little I've looked into it, most seem to just ignore him, which is fair. But I have seen a few where he's the unintentional source of the disease, or simply unable to cure it and instead helps Fluttershy care for the injured.
i like this au a lot. I've gotten bored of seeing the mane 6 in these scenarios over and over again, it's refreshing seeing someone utilizing other existing characters for their aus.

As someone who came across those creepypastas when younger,this is rather interesting to see. People are incredibly creative. I must say,my favorite variation are the ones who don't paint Fluttershy as weak but instead acknowledge what a powerhouse she is with Discord being so attached to her,all the animals she can communicate with,not to mention still having some of Flutterbat in her...
And the best part is that these are way better done than what I had,some may label it as generic "mandela catalogue" horror in some cases but many I've seen are genuinely well done and actually creep me out,the things I had were a little generic gore (not all of it,but the very big ones were) like Cupcakes was written purely for shock value. All these infection AUs?? These things are GREAT! The art,the genuine dread,it's pretty good
There should be a study on why things such as My Little Pony are so easy to "corrupt" one could say. It's a phenomenon I've seen in my entire fandom life. If the product is somewhat lighthearted or sweet,the fandom sooner or later will make something dark out of it. And yet things that are already dark,sometimes they get the silliest fandoms. Funnily enough while MLP got those things,the creepypasta fandom was... Very much a meme? Certan incidents aside,it seemed like nobody took these killers seriously lol
Thing is the content doesn't have to be cute and sweet,people make edgelord stuff out of everything, you just notice it more when it's a cute show because of the contrast.

I feel like it'd be interesting if different infected ponies had different levels of aggression based on their last fully formed thoughts and emotions before succumbing to the infection, for example applebloom is sad and lonely but hopeful so she isn't very aggressive, but the wonderbolts were infected in a scary and intense situation so they'd be more aggressive
There is a g5 fandom but it’s very small lol. I really like it tho because everyone is really nice to each other and it’s a lot more child friendly then the g4 fandom lol. And I’m saying that as someone who was a child during the “brony craze”

I´m one month late. But if I remember correctly, between 2014-2017 there was a fan comic where the whole Ponyvillle was infected with a mortal sickness. As time passed, they would get black marks, and when they died their body would be like a shadow (or full black idk), all doctors were depressed and as the big energy giver in Ponyville, Pinkie was there to support everyone.
The thing, is that Pinkie got infected too. And when she died, she met "death" itself, she said to him "If I make you laugh, you will revive me", he agreed, thinking that she wouldn´t suceed, but, after a week she revived, and lived then till 100
when i saw silver zoom i was so happy he has one of the coolest bg pony designs ive seen and aside from DJ pon3 adn bon bon is one of my favorite bg/side characters, aswell as red heart ofc! its so cool ur using them as focuses in your infected story :)
Oh, so that's where the infection aus came from! I was a pony fan for a few years in my late teens but I usually avoided creepypasta because I had so much anxiety as a kid and got scared easily lol i still know a bunch of the songs from the show and the fandom. My brother and I used to sing Discord together all the time
It’s interesting seeing the differences between the TikTok side of this vs the Tumblr side!! For example, on Tumblr it’s almost always Fluttershy who’s patient zero (or at the very least, the patient zero of the Mane 6 specifically), and the infections stick to canon far more than on TikTok (who tend to prefer working with horror closer to other series such as the Walten Files and other analogue horror)

Heres my AU since I dont wanna be attacked on tiktok!
The infection is called the cupcake disease
its basically what it sounds like, the infection is usually in a cupcake or sweet and can be passed down by a bite or open wound that has not been treated for 30 minutes. Pinkie Pie is immune and so is Apple Jack. The first infected is Twilight sparkle, she was unaware of the infection and she was hungry so she ate a cupcake. Shortly after she started to have some symptoms of the infection which was, Memory loss, Agression, Insomia, Anxiety and Coughing blood. Fluttershy saw her and took her to Miss redheart but when they got to her it was too late. She was already at phase 2 of the infection. Her eyes started to go back into her head and her limbs started to out stretch which made it hard to move correctly. Fluttershy escaped in time, but not miss redheart. Shortly after PinkiePie came across Fluttershy and took her to her bakery. Fluttershy ate some bread and left, as she left she took a knife for protection

The phases
Phase 1/4: The pony will as i said for Twilight, Memory loss, Agression, Insomia, Anxiety, Coughing blood and loss of eye sight
Phase 2/4: Out stretched limbs, Eyes going into their head, her memories wiped away
Phase 3/4: Eyes can barely be seen, blind, Weak, barely can walk, mouth is out stretched
Phase 4/4: *Death*

Story of the blanks has inspired me into making a story similar to this but cranked up to eleven.
The antagonist being a very realistic looking horse with human hands instead of hooves he's the mayor of the village and outlawed cutie marks because it's seen as heresy by the mayor and the eldars. They gave the mayor a pass cause he's special in terms of status. Specifically because of his hands. With hands like those you can do EVERYTHING.

The My Little Pony Grimdark and Horror when I was a small child made me extremely desensitized to it, even things like parasites and heavy gore (yet I'm still scared of needles-)
hello, my friend. i am the resident brony, and i'd like to talk for a moment. i showed up in 2021 and only caved in on the show after seeing massive amounts of positive mlp stuff that i liked, and expected to leave after seeing a few shitty episodes. i really liked the opening with nightmare moon and her plan to remove the sun from existance and freeze everyone to death/slowly starve everyone, killing everyone. so i stuck around, watched every episode in like 6 months because i loved it, read the keepers of discord, listened to a whole bunch of songs, and reached wings of fire levels of obsession. (i really like wings of fire by the way.) and so that takes me to my current spell of sadness after finding out how dissapointing g5 is. i used to severely judge stories by their appearances, and the past year completely changed my opinions on that.
I feel like a big part of the mlp fandom almost maturing as a whole over time from the awkward brony phase, though the dark edge what-if-the-cutsie-perfect-utopia-were-dark phase, to an understanding that despite the show being rooted in being targeted for children also kept in mind its older audience watching for nostalgia or just escaping how most shows feel they need to be heavy and adult to be nuanced - especially the slice of life episode - and the creepypasta aspect of mlp kind of did originate from an edgelord phase, but became a catharsis of exploring the mlp world in a darker setting - albeit needing a bit of retconning to have the mlp world actually able to not just be entirely traumatized by anything more than a creepy face. So its cool that its come full circle and inspired some really interesting or even moving storywriting with such a simple concept.
