Yep just watched this for the first time and was like wut?! He's got his heel down on the right side pedal - which I imagine is already a lot harder for a song like this to get the power needed; my former teacher could get a lot of power with his heel down strokes but I can only use it for softer playing. And then it looks like he's filling in the faster notes of the herta with the left. Can't tell if he's actually starting the hertas with his left foot? If so that would be even more difficult! I can only play Bleed style hertas on the bass drum with single strokes, like I would if playing it with my hands. It feels more natural for me to just speed up a heel up R - L single stroke on my feet for the faster notes of the herta rather than do some more complex techniques like heel-toe or patterns such as using double strokes. Although just 'brute forcing' it like that I can't get that much speed or endurance out of it, and it falls apart if I try even a simple riding pattern over the top with my hands. So it's pretty clear how physically demanding Bleed is to play on the drums, yet El Estepario does it with incredible accuracy and power. It's amazing to see how he keeps improving his ability and especially impressive when he's well known for using cool tricks/techniques to get a double pedal sound out of a single pedal, yet absolutely crushes one of the most difficult double pedal songs there is.

He uses the snare like another hi-hat in the main riff. I've never noticed that in the live performances. No wonder that time signature is a nightmare.
This is SO next level. Like others have said, it's technically fantastic AND has the groove. For new drummers - notice how still EES's torso is while playing - balanced and still. Also notice he's not beating the drums like they owe him money. Limited arm movement, and mostly wrists/fingers. Spotless technique.
One hand ? :D Joking. You see this shit is difficult, when you see once in a lifetime this guy with a fully serious and concentrated face. Amazing job man.
You know its so hard .. when he’s struggling to do it correctly when normally he overdoes them to show you can add more for this it honestly just .. magic the way it was written..
Damn…. The fact that you were mostly playing to the track and didn’t have a bunch of cool stick tricks and whatnot truly shows the technical difficulty of this song. Well fucking done man. Just amazing work.
El Estepario is one of the most exciting, creative drummers out there. His creativity makes him the overall best drummer for me (besides his skills, accuracy, cleanness and so on) and i can´t imagine how one could be "better" (please no senseless discussions about better or best). After watching this drum cover I must say that Thomas Haake is even bettererer than i ever believed. (how is that even possible?!) Music is not only about notes. it´s the way Haake plays them within the song. Bleed will always be unplayable for me, El Estepario can play it but Thomas Haake knows/feels how it´s played right to make it sound how it sounds and feels. Meshuggah and Haake - untouchable Gods.
I imagine your legs Herta after that. 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 Appreciate being able to hear the ghost notes on snare in your recording, I didn’t fully appreciate all the extra snare going on in original ❤
You know the song is demanding when this drumming monster has that look of intense concentration on his face! Incredible job. And just another example of the greatness of Tomas Haakes drumming.
The one song that I've attempted to learn countless times but never managed to master. In my opinion, anybody who can play this perfectly can confidently say that they've mastered the double bass pedals.
I know I'm late to the party here, but holy s**t. I've only been following this dude for a few months on Facebook, and I've been super impressed. But I only saw stuff where he was just having fun. This is the first video I've seen of him actually concentrating and it blew my mind...💀 F**king superb 👌
I think it's the first time I see a bleed cover as tight... and the first time I see El Estepario that concentrated ! How many takes to get this result?
I've never seen anyone play this leading left foot. I don't know if that's the way you normally do your doublebass, but it's very impressive! EDIT: I might have been wrong, actually. I think the bouncing motion of the left foot threw me off. Watching his Instagram video playing on the TV (mental), I think this is actually leading right foot. But then in the later section, when the hertas are broken up slightly it looks like left foot lead again. I'm so confused!
he's right food leading, he's just playing flat footed with his right foot, the fact that the left foot is playing heel up could fool you when he lifts his foot on the 1 to prepare for the second stroke, but he's definitely leading right foot
@@jsraudio surely not though, because the left foot is playing the double to make the herta while the right is staying steady? It's the opposite of how Tomas does it and he leads right.
@@jsraudio I had to look closely but I believe he's right, I think he's leading with the left foot for most of the song. I'd be interested to know why and also why he's playing the right foot with the heel down when leading with the left.
@@JeanDenisCote I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first as well haha, this absolutely mad bastard is left-foot leading it XD In terms of the different foot positions, it'll be a balance/ergonomics/technique thing. If you watch a foot cam of Haake playing the song, you'll notice his right ankle and leg are angled higher than the left to accomodate the double whereas the left is lower and using a fuller leg motion to fill the notes inbetween. This dude probably thought to push it a little more extreme on the off foot with a shin workout and keep the motion all heel down instead, again, mad bastard :P
All those different rhythms at the same time make this piece not only sound like nothing else, but also you look otherworldly, when you play it - all limbs moving in different tempos :D

After learning some of the songs on drums including this one i can honestly tell you that the only 2 things that make this song a pain in the ass. #1 the rhythms in the middle section and solo, #2 the speed. It took me 3months to finally play this song through without my legs getting tired or too tense. I think there are a few tracks off of chaosphere that top this song. Even the song future breed machine is harder than this one in my opinion.

The ghost notes are so controlled. How you reduce the velocity with each stroke before you reach the rimshot adds so much to it. Incredible.
When it is Meshuggah, complete focus face, no smile no overplaying, more man more
This is SO next level. Like others have said, it's technically fantastic AND has the groove. For new drummers - notice how still EES's torso is while playing - balanced and still. Also notice he's not beating the drums like they owe him money. Limited arm movement, and mostly wrists/fingers. Spotless technique.
My all time favorite band since 1995!!! So glad you did this and you did it well brother!
This is probably the cleanest I’ve seen it played. Hitting all the ghost notes and keeping the pace and rhythm of messushuga. Awesome brother.
MESHUGGAH! Let's go Estepario, loving the new covers, keep up the great work, keep being awesome ❤️💋
One hand ? :D Joking. You see this shit is difficult, when you see once in a lifetime this guy with a fully serious and concentrated face. Amazing job man.
This is the cover I have been waiting for. Cannot wait to watch this dude rip that absolute hurricane of a song.
You know its so hard .. when he’s struggling to do it correctly when normally he overdoes them to show you can add more for this it honestly just .. magic the way it was written..
Siii grande estepario
Mis 2 canciones favoritas de messugah sos un grande bro
Damn…. The fact that you were mostly playing to the track and didn’t have a bunch of cool stick tricks and whatnot truly shows the technical difficulty of this song. Well fucking done man. Just amazing work.
That was absolutely marvelous, nailed it!
(how is that even possible?!)
Music is not only about notes. it´s the way Haake plays them within the song.
Bleed will always be unplayable for me, El Estepario can play it but Thomas Haake knows/feels how it´s played right to make it sound how it sounds and feels.
Meshuggah and Haake - untouchable Gods.
This song is *SO* groovy! I love it. And you did it great justice!
I imagine your legs Herta after that. 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Appreciate being able to hear the ghost notes on snare in your recording, I didn’t fully appreciate all the extra snare going on in original ❤
Let's gooooo!!!!!! Huge fan, since the beginning! Was waiting for this cover. You're too good to not cover this.
You know the song is demanding when this drumming monster has that look of intense concentration on his face! Incredible job. And just another example of the greatness of Tomas Haakes drumming.
Con ganas de ver este trallazo, de momento la cover de Troy Wright es insuperable..., a tope ESTEPARIO!💪
This feels like the inspiration to Argent Metal, just the way it's all structured and the instrument selections
Whenever I see another Bleed cover I grab myself a coffee and come back to this video to appreciate the excellent job you did with those snare notes.
Muy bueno, no quedan palabras para contar el gran y duro trabajo que estas haciendo, sigue asi que vas por muy buen camino bro.
Just because you and Tomas can play this song to perfection, does not mean that the song is not impossible to play
Some people live for what's considered impossible.
@@nategoodwin3329 True😂 Some people are simply in a league of their own
I've never seen anyone play this leading left foot.
@@JeanDenisCote I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first as well haha, this absolutely mad bastard is left-foot leading it XD
In terms of the different foot positions, it'll be a balance/ergonomics/technique thing.
I noticed that too. Absolute madness!
as someone who knows fuck all about drums i give you the highest compliment i can give you it sounds like the studio version
Самое чистое и расслабленное исполнение что я слышал, жаль не до конца!
I practise this song almost a year now, but can't do the base figure correctly yet. Wont't stop until i am finished.
Awesome to see that completed 👍
I'm writing this comment before the video is uploaded, but i can already tell that this is one of the best cover i've ever heard.
All those different rhythms at the same time make this piece not only sound like nothing else, but also you look otherworldly, when you play it - all limbs moving in different tempos :D
This is amazing! I can’t wait till you cover some Pantera!
Came here off of TikTok wondering if you ever took on Meshuggah. Of course you did. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This double bass line is mind blowing
Single pedal.
SINGLE PEDAL!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🫶🤘🤘🤘
Tomas Haake should be proud of you, man, as you should! You are a killer drum machine!!! You prove all that patience and practice is the key... et en plus, tu es un proche d'Eloy Casagrande... au Québec, on adore Sepultura! Vous êtes, à mon avis, la quintessence du Metal! Merci pour tes vidéos hallucinantes!
So how do you feel this song ranks in the “hardest songs you’ve ever learned” category? Would love your opinion. Great job!
Did you notice he leads with both feet at different points too!? Insane
@@CLIFTYPOPS yes bro it’s wild
Honestly this isnt even one on meshuggahs top 5 hardest to play on drums imo. Ive been diving deep into them for the last year and a half.
Saw rhe shorts with single pedal and thought: well he is avoiding the nasty 16th with the bass drum! Turns out he is not!!! Insanly good and precise drumming! Love it!!!
Sabes cuando la cancion es dificil porque no mete chops a todo jajaja. Muy buen cover.
nunca le vi al estepario tanta cara de concentración, impresionante trabajo con esos patrones! saludos desde Argentina!
This drum part is such a gem. It's absolute perfection in every way. Love it!
The special effects of smoke in the beginning was my favorite part.
You have to be using divine intervention or be high as hell to play this song.
Well Done
FERDA
First I've seen of your channel. This song and you go hard. Incredible drumming skills
La primera vez que te veo tan metido en una cover, y no es para menos. Brutal y enhorabuena, figura, crack, maquina, mastodonte, arquitecto, estepario!
Not a big fan of those ghost notes but that was epic, especially that meaty kick sound :]
The ghost notes are in the song, though.
@@plagueburial Yea, but not so loud. Of course it's personal preference but in my opinion the snare lacks the buzz from the snares, there is none which makes it sound bland IMO
Man, I found you on TikTok. Seen and met many drummers. You sir, are a God at the drums. So relaxed...
Killer snare work! I loved the way you had it way up in the mix so we could hear all the lighter notes.
Great job. Those hats and that stack cymbal sound superb. Also you're right hand was moving so fast it looked like 14 sticks in a rainbow during the chorus.
RESPECT.
That was a wierd end
Look at his ig. There used to be a song perfectly timed with the ending but it got claimed and he had to remove it.
Yeah I agree
@@marcosarteaga5538 ahhh. Thanks. That makes sense
MADNESS, can't keep up with the one foot that is heel down then the left foot doing the sliding. Just absolute madness!
You didn't finish the song! >:(
Im amazed by the dynamics you are always able to achieve with just 1 snare and 1 floor tom, absolutely incredible and an amazing cover.
Never in my wildest dreams could I ever have that kind of foot control on the double. That's absolutely insane, my friend.
my feet are burning just watching this
This kind of tempos turn drummers into machines, clockwork machines. I remember Messhugah releasing some kind of YT contest related to this song. I'm not even sure if they enjoy playing it live 😂. Complex AF.
Watching you play is motivating even though I'm not a percussionist. It's like when I saw a DVD of Led Zepellin and saw Jimmy Paige play for the first time. Incredible.
Cuanta concentración, excelente trabajo, la teoría de las 10.000 horas hecha persona. Felicitaciones!
Despite his other videos. There is no fooling around just pure concentration to cover Haake drums.
Kudos to you sir for this excellent performance!
With that beard you would fit right in with todays Meshuggah members look! 👌 Awesome playing!!
What energy men 😮❤
I Meshuggah ti fanno concentrare molto😂 miglior gruppo metal al mondo, ma tu sei sempre un grande batterista!
I come here every time I want to listen to this song. It's mixed much better imo with more emphasis on the low end compared to the original version.
Been coming back to your channel for this for quite some time now. Scared my dog when I screamed F**K YES! Huge fan from the start, greetings from Greece🤟
La creatividad que manejas para hacer un arreglo a tu estilo con una batería sumamente minimalista en contraposición a de la de Tomas, es realmente de otra galaxia.
