    One of the most perceptive and cognizant reactions to Goodfellas I've seen!! Way to catch on to all the subtleties that Scorsese is such a master of weaving into the film!!
    Thoroughly enjoyed this one!!🤙🏻

    My favorite part is when Henry just walks away from his mother-in-law's house laughing. Just the realism - the early morning light, the way the characters act. Joe Pesci wagging his finger saying, "What's the matter with you, Henry!" is the cherry on top.

      Billy Batts was not murdered just for insulting the wrong people (I expect he figured that he was untouchable too as he was made and Jimmy & Tommy were not). Jimmy Conway (the person Robert De Niro's character was based on) had taken over Batts' rackets while Batts was in prison and was not interested in handing them back now that Batts was back on the street,

    The "How am I funny" scene was a complete ad lib by Pesci. That's why Liotta looked so shocked, and, confused by it. He really didn't know what to say. It's also a big part of why Pesci won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year.

    • @ExUSSailor
      @ExUSSailor 2 роки тому +8

      Personally, I think the fact that Ray Liotta wasn't even nominated for an Oscar for this is CRIMINAL.

      William "Billy Batts" Betvena was not only a made man, he was a close friend of John Gotti, who was already quickly on the rise in the Gambino family. It's rumored he was actually the one to pull the trigger in Tommy DeSimone's execution.

    • @windsorkid7069

      The premise of it was talked about between Scorcese, Liotta and Pesci but Scorcese told them to just wing it. Also, none of the guys sitting around them, some of them actual mobsters, had a clue about what was happening. They all thought it was real and not part the movie. Great scene.

    • @chidiumeh
      @chidiumeh 2 роки тому +10

      Not quite true. Pesci and Liotta rehearsed the scene. The other actors in the scene didn't know about it as it wasn't in the script - so there reactions are genuine.

    • @windsorkid7069

      Whats interesting is real mobsters like Michael Franzese , have said this scene was fiction . That Henry Hill would not have been taken special threw the back of the club . As he was not a made member in the mob . In reality he was just a low level associate .

    • @Video_Crow
      @Video_Crow 2 роки тому +3

      One interesting thing that most people don't notice - they go in a loop in the kitchen, and exit the same way they came in - in reality the whole trip through the kitchen would have been pointless. If you look, just as they turn to go into the kitchen, there's a firehose on the wall, slightly ahead of them to their right - when they exit, they turn left and walk past that same firehose, now on their left.

    • @laudanum669
      @laudanum669 Рік тому +1

      @@SJ-ty5rw Of course it was fictional. However I'm sure there were several Mobsters who did receive that kind of treatment. Also Henry was more of a mid level associate or he never would have been privy to the information he had.

    Another great thing about this movie is that it’s based on a real story and pretty accurate. They changed a few things in the timeline and changed a few names but overall pretty accurate.
    Henry and Jimmy couldn’t be made guys in the Mob because Jimmy was Irish and Henry was half Italian and half Irish. You had to be 100% Italian in those days.
    Jimmy was still highly respected despite being non-Italian because he made a lot of money for the mob. Most agree he would’ve been a boss or capo if he was Italian

    The real Tommy DiSimone was even more crazy in real life. Henry Hill said in his autobiography that when Tommy bought a new gun and wanted to try it out, he shot a random person on the street. It wasn't anyone Henry or the gang knew, just some person from the neighborhood who was out for a walk.

    I actually like Karen's narration, it was different and you didn't expect a 2nd narration, plus we also get some of her side of the story too with her time with Henry. Maybe there was an end narration from her, but it was cut out due to time limit? Jimmy cried over Tommy's death, it's obvious - he smashed the phone and even tipped the whole phone booth in frustration. He was both angry and sad because they killed one of his best and closest friends and there was nothing he could do about it, if he did he would end up dead too. You really have a beautiful smile, Nox, love your beautiful smile =)

    Fun Fact: After the premiere, Henry Hill went around and revealed his true identity. In response, the government kicked him out of the Federal Witness Protection Program.
    Good Slap Fact: When Paulie confronts Henry after Hill's released from prison, Paul Sorvino improvised the slap to Ray Liotta's face, hence Liotta's reaction.

    Frickin' FANTASTIC commentary on this FANTASTIC movie. Now that's a movie, am I right? You exclaiming emphatically: "THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOD!"......priceless. I remember coming out of the theater and feeling as if I had just eaten a full meal, if you know what I mean! I know everyone says the same thing: you flip the channels, this movie is on, you can't turn the channel! You just pick it up from where ever it is! Most of us have seen this movie fifty million times, lol. And a movie this great gives a reactor like you LOTS to work with! Your edit was spectacularly concise. Your reactions were EXACTLY like mine, and the audience I saw it with (a packed movie theatre). It's practically a comedy! A few years later, they basically made "Goodfellas Goes to Vegas" in the movie "Casino" which is ALSO excellent (although I give "Goodfellas" the edge). Scorsese and De Niro have a string of essential films: The King Of Comedy, Cape Fear, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets. Their most recent collaboration, "The Irishman", was outstanding.....but I'd watch those others first./THANK YOU, MISS NOX!!!!! Movies don't come much better than this one.....and neither do reaction videos!!!! :D

    Henry Hill actually lived until 2012. In latter years he appeared on the Howard Stern Show frequently.

    When Paulie slaps Henry after telling him not to get into drugs,it was for real. Paul Sorvino felt Ray Liotta was only half listening so he jolted him with a slap. That's why Henry acted surprised.

    The tell me what's so funny about me part was a adlib between Joe, Ray, and the director knew about it too. But the rest of the crew didn't know about it. That's why it gets so quiet even the Xtras in the background are paying attention to it. Than when everyone is laughing even the xtras are laughing at it.

    Every single time I hear Layla by Derick and the Dominoes, I can't help thing of when everyone gets wacked! One of my all-time favorite movies, all the scenes with houses were filmed in my home town of New Rochelle, NY. I also remember my Dad listening to WINS on the ride to school when I was a kid, so when Henry was in the shower, that sound before they announce the Lufthansa heist brings me back home every time...

    Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the original book and screenplay, did his research alongside his wife, Nora Ephron (writer of When Harry Met Sally and writer/director of Sleepless in Seattle, amongst others). She used her research to write a pseudo-sequel, a comic reimagining of Henry's life in Witness Protection. The resulting film is called My Blue Heaven, with Steve Martin in the Ray Liotta part. It actually came out before Goodfellas. It ain't great.

    Another crazy thing about the story of Henry Hill...Nicholas Pileggi, the writer who adapted Henry Hill's book "Wiseguy" into the screenplay for Goodfellas...was married to writer/director Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless In Seattle) at the time and she decided to take the part of the book _after_ Henry goes into the witness protection program and loosely adapted that into the comedy movie, My Blue Heaven.
    In that movie though they did change the character of Henry Hill's name. And the actor that played him? Steve Martin.
    And both Goodfellas and My Blue Heaven came out the same year.

    Based on a true story , Henry Hill left the protection program & went on the Howard Stern Radio program . Spiders sister called in & begged him to tell where spiders body was , so the family could bury him . Hill said you know , even if I knew I couldn’t tell you without implicating myself in whatever happened to him .
