Personally, I would love to see a comparison between the W222. I know you mentioned it in passing, but coming from a former Mercedes salesperson who has spent a good chunk of wheel time behind 222s and a former owner of a 221, you’ll notice a difference. Also, if you’re keeping your 221 outdoors, make sure the sunroof drains don’t clog. I’ve seen horror stories on the forums. Great video as always! Makes me miss my 221!
Yes this. And Tony, would love to hear your take on the difference too, including maintenance/longevity differences. 2010 w221 owner here that just started considering w222
It's certainly a vehicle on our list to feature, it's just a matter of finding either a private owner or used car dealer in the area who'd like to work with us.
Many do! If I were on my own I'd be perfectly happy with it, but having 3 passengers with me most times it would have been nice to get that extra legroom. I still think it's so weird someone optioned the short wheelbase with the rear entertainment and rear seating package.
What a beautiful inside colors combination, so much better than a black interior. I prefer a cream interior with light tone wood inserts but this color combo is great and pretty rare.
Feels like it in some ways! I had a lot to do with that E38 originally, it was in pretty rough shape. This doesn't need any major work, eventually need to fix up that lower fascia.
You need a "battery maintainer" that hooks up to your battery that keeps the battery charged as needed. I use it in the winter when car sits sometimes weeks before starting.
That's essentially what I have, I can select between 2A, 4A, and 6A and it just claps onto the battery terminals. I was using it with my E38 before I sold it. Realistically I'll be looking at winter storage for this car this coming year and would like to have it connected at the 2A setting during it's hibernation.
Both of my W140's were short wheel base by choice. They were such MASSIVE cars, SWB was all I could do to NOT feel like a limo driver. But my 2011 naturally aspirated RWD W221 S550 with AMG appearance package? LWB or bust. LOVE IT! Next car? Probably another W221!!!!
Awesome collection of cars! I do feel I'm missing out a bit having the short wheelbase for this, just because of where I am in my life and what I need it for.
I completely agree with you. If I'm getting an S-Class for me to drive personally, I'll definitely get the SWB. Obviously, LWB if I'm being driven around! 👍💯
I'd love one of these - quiet class. 👍 I couldn't help notice in one shot two serious-looking leaks ongoing under the car. I'm guessing you're either aware of them, or had the car just been washed underneath or something? How's your central arm rest? Every W221 I've looked at, the leather seems to bubble/wrinkle. It was hard to see, but yours looks OK. I much prefer this to new cars with no buttons and nothing but characterless screens. 👍
I did wash the car on the way to film the B Roll and intro segment, along with the vehicle running during. So part of it was A/C condensation, the other is the water from the wash.
It's hard to break it down as I'm also insured on the C 300 on the same policy, but for full coverage and a $1M liability it's around $190/mo with my insurer. I'm paying about $300 a month for both, the C-Class before was about $115/mo with just liability and no collision.
Aside from an aftermarket supplier, you may have to find a scrapped car. We used to go to the wreckers when I had my 2001 BMW 740iL and managed to find a couple every month, managed to get some good parts off those cars including the extended wood trim.
Ain't that the truth! We're going back to that same area soon but I'll be taking a press car instead. No way I'm adding unnecessary damage to this car again.
We aren’t here to hear about no Lexus. This is a S class video. Lexus guys are always commenting on Mercedes videos talking about how good their cars are and trying to confirm their implicit bias. Its annoying.

I certainly second that. The owner experience w221 vs w222.
Everyone knows the S class won't disappoint anyone. But what about running cost?
@@PRNTestDrive: I have a W222 s560 in Hamilton.
I prefer the shorty!

Anything but black! My 7 Series had the beige interior like my C-Class. I just feel black interiors lose all the detail by being too dark.
Great work Nile. Reminds me of when you first started on the BMW 740i👍

Thank you very much for the video of a phenomenal luxurious sedan that is not trying to be anything else but a car.
Every time I get behind the wheel of this car is a treat. It's just a joy to drive around in it.

I just found one and it was in great conditions, hopefully I will be able to pick it up on Monday.
Awesome! Let us know how you make out!

Could be condensation from AC.

I love the interior of this car except the steering wheel, can you change it? Very elegant vehicle ❤
I love the wheel! What sort would you want to change it to? The feel is perfection, especially with that wood trim 😃
@PRN_testdrive, what's the monthly insurance on this vehicle?

Anyone have a link to where I can buy those black piano interior wood trims for the W221?

Are you willing to sell the car
Depends on what sort of offer I was given. If you're serious about it email me at nile@prntestdrive.com.
Ha , I laughed at your Quebec story, roads are not as good as in Ontario for sure.
