I bought 2015 S550 couple months ago for $29K … with 80K miles … one owner , elderly retired couple …. runs and looks new … it was either new Camry or S550 … no brainer for me after taking both for a test ride … Camry rides like a wheelbarrow compared to S class …
I completely agree with you about the new S-class. Regardless of whether it's actually a better car or not, as some people claim it is, aesthetically I don't love it like I did the W222, especially the facelifted W222 that you had. Personally, I get far too attached to my cars to contemplate selling after only a few years, I'd buy new then run it at least 10 years or until it has been fully depreciated, so depreciation won't be a factor.
@@hellcat7394 You are so right!!! The world is not just China and if you sacrifice your design to just one country, you sacrifice the brand. Exactly what BMW did as well. Sad!
Yeah the new model looks better from any angle. Mercedes really did a great job on the W223. I never was much into Mercedes but I have to damit, that nearly every new car by them is very good looking and really draws my attention. That wasn't always the case especially not since the late 90ies. We got some very bad looking Mercedes over time but nowadays is a different story.
I've had different S class for past 30 yrs. I totally agree w u on all the pros of it & especially on what u said liking the older models than the newer models. Don't know what's wrong w MB, the newer ones r just getting less & less classy...having less & less wood & leather, but more & more plastics.
Totally agree with you. People often underestimate the S-class. Each model is the next gen of car design so you don’t need to replace them too often as they’re already so far ahead. Rolls and Bentley have some great interiors but here in the UK they’re easily twice the price of an s-class but they’re not even close to being twice the car in terms of features, performance or comfort.
Rolls Royce and Bentley are worth more than even the most expensive Mercedes models, the AMG versions, because of the history record of the car makers. Mercedes makes cars of all types, ranging from the A-Class as city car, then we have the C-Class as "average" car, then the E-Class as high-end executive car, up to the S-Class as flagship car. Not to mention the SUVs like the G, GLE and GLS, and in particular sport-focused cars like the CLS the SL and the AMG GT. And all these cars are built on assembly line, which makes the production faster and more practical. Rolls Royce and Bentley always and only made high-end, luxurious cars like the Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan for the first, and Continental, Flying Spur and Bentayga for the second. And these cars all hand-built, which makes leads to the production of less examples for a higher price.
@@Havok1199 I see your point about exclusivity but let’s be clear - neither Rolls or Bentley are truly hand built as they once were. In fact the Rolls engines come to the factory having been made by BMW in Germany. Likewise, most Bentley models are based on Audi platforms. The Bentley Bentayga is just a fancy Audi Q7. And if you want to talk about history then it’s important to remember that almost every single technical feature on a new Rolls or Bentley was seen on the S-class first. For example Rolls and Bentley only got fuel injection in the mid 80’s! They only got Airbags in the 90’s. Where’s the s-class could have fuel injection in the 60’s and a drivers airbag in the late 70s. So I say again, the S-class is just a better car. Admittedly it’s not so exclusive but that doesn’t bother me.
@@mohammadcheema7375 Yes it’s true that, being subsidiaries of German companies (Rolls Royce owned by BMW, Bentley owned by VW), they’re not the same thing like when they were both owned by Vickers. So the point of being handbuilt and/or being produced in fewer examples, compared to other makers, doesn’t count anymore. However, it’s all about pedigree, in other words what I told you before about going for exclusivity. It’s like the same thing of why someone is more likely to shop at Gucci rather than Bikkembergs for example. It’s not even about having a luxurious car, some people buy Rolls and/or Bentleys just for the logo slapped on the grille, as way to elevate their “caste”, so they can scream to the world that they’re not just rich, they’ve become someone important in society. It’s simply the textbook definition of status symbol.
I bought a 2015 S550 with 45K miles in 2018 for $50K (paid cash). it’s now 4 years later and have had a few minor repairs (nothing out of the ordinary). Was offered $45K for it last month and it has 70K miles. (Replaced rims with 20” specialty high end rims and red brake pads). Perfect immaculate condition. Past 450 SEL and E320 owner. Past 3 and 7 series BMW owner. This S550 is my favorite and the cost to replace is redonkulous - I don’t even like the new ones - the rear lights look like Hundai’s. I’m keeping and loving my 2015 S550.
@@esthetics4512 Rear passenger window switch had to be replaced - kids too rough on it (I bought the entire module used and pulled out the toggles and swapped them out.); Had to replace 2 coils and spark plugs - same thing happened to my jag and Ford Explorer at about the same mileage, coincidentally; windshield washer reservoir motor had to be replaced - that’s about it.
Your 🍀 lucky. Almost exactly same scenario but in shop 11 times in three years electrical etc…. Sold in sold mine late 21 for 34K bought 21 Genesis GV80 . Enjoying it
As a BMW guy. I bought my First Sclass 2019.. and it is just something Very very special. I have owned for 1.5 yrs.. and have driven from Florida to Boston.. and Back.. The S class just continues to Reward you... message sears, air ride suspension l, powerful engine... . The new S class looks like a Hyandai... the W222.. is the True Presence and Essence of Mercedes. I visited a Dealership and Test drove a Bentley Flying Spur.. the Bentley is a Nice car, however the Mercedes Eclipses it from every Metric. 💯
@user-fn6pd8ni4p it's a long discussion and subjective subject. No Two cars feel the same. Many cars that Most could only dream about have disappointed me...although I have Not owned a w222. But I did sell my 2013 s65, 2012 s63 and a 09' Arnage but kept my 03' s600. Hope that says something to you.
Bought a 2013 s550 4matic @ 30k miles back in 2016 for $25k. At the time it was a steal! I ended up Putting another 100k miles on it, kept up with the maintenance & oil, transmission fluid, brakes and tires. Also i didnt abuse the peddle. It runs great no problems at all either! I sold her in 2020 and got almost what i paid for her! I was second owner & i miss her.
When we were in the market, we looked at both W223 and W222, back to back. There’s no denying that the W223 is absolutely brilliant car, but in my opinion, it didn’t really justify the $30,000 price difference between it and the W222 2020 S560 AMG line that I was looking at. I really glad I chose the W222 because it’s the S Class that I’ve come to love as my favorite car. Have had the car a rear now, best car we will probably ever own. It’s proved to me that I will always remain my favorite car…the S Class!
I have owned many S class's over the last 30 years. I bought the cars' as off lease vehicles as Certified Mercedes Pre-owned with the balance of the original owners warrantee plus a 12 month Mercedes warrantee. Typically a 2 to 3 year old S class pre-owned with 25 to 40K miles sells for about a 50% of the original MSRP. The depreciation is a problem for the original owner but an asset for the second owner.

I have 2020 Mercedes S560 4maric with Maybach Package. I absolutely dont see any vehicle less then 80k price tag on the road. I had 2018 BMw 740e plug in Hybrid and loved it but...... S560 takes it to the different level. I have determined that S class isn't aiming to compete against A8L and 7 series, it tries to be on Flying Spur, RR Ghost type of vehicle. Kind of affordable but with all the luxury features. But new 2022 S class is an enlarged Honda Civic and CLA mix. Will save up for Ghost or Culinan!
My first experience with an S class was in 7th grade, a friends drove us to the roller rink in an 420 SEL, W126 I was amazed at how big the back seat was and how rich the black paint looked with the gulideck wheels and the rich tan leather interior. I also remember her mother complaining that the car had to go back for a blown cylinder. Fast forward maybe 25 years and I got my own s class, an s430, w220 was a great car. I loved the features the driving performance was excellent. A torque converter was replaced at 43k under warranty, but no other issues. The car currently has 140k miles on it and it’s flawless. Now I have a w222 and that is an amazing heavy fast car that is a dream to drive. Other than small random repairs, the car is reliable and the twin turbo is very smooth. Once you have an s class you really can’t drive another car.
Could you make more reviews? You are really good at communicating how the cars feel and what their differences are. Do you think sound insulation or ride quality is most important for comfort?
It's a factor, but in my opinion the suspension is the biggest thing. If the ride is harsh, your muscles will automatically become tense. This causes fatigue.
Both! The Mercedes S class is highly insulated, and it rides on a air suspension! The writers that road and track magazine are full of shit, I want to float down the highway and not feel the crappy ass road. That’s just a marketing strategy to get people to buy sporty cars like the Lexus with the F package F stands for failure! They think we want a BMW feel of the road type suspension, which is pure BS!
Sound insulation is the best feature a car can have! It cost next to nothing but car manufacturers are too cheap to put it in. Lexus and Mercedes are the best.
@@danielstehura9657 It's not about being cheap, it's a weight issue that ruins the consumption efficiency and also for Europe at least it affects the tax classifications of vehicles when their consumption rate goes above a threshold. Meaning certain consumers targets would be missed. Especially company car fleets rely heavily on these thresholds set by governments in Europe
I own a fully loaded S550 since late 2015, and it's amazing! In my mind it's the best luxury car, including a Bentley. I am happy I added all the features - adaptive seats, head up display etc. And I fully agree with the horrible look of the new EQS, and having driven my friend's EQS - it's not the same as my S550. If Mercedes does not improve the EQS by the time I buy a new car, it won't be a Mercedes.
@@tomcai5020 Runs like new. Exterior and Interior are also in great shape, despite me using it for everything and anything - drove in desert highways under high winds, park it often under trees, sometimes park in narrow parking spots, and I do enjoy the power and agility so it's not just idling along rides. Twice I drove from Orange County to Sacramento (over 400 miles) without refueling along the way. For sure, right now, the best EQS is not ready to replace it and if it stays this way, my next car will be another S550.
@@dantee7893 Totally agree. I’ve heard that some people experienced electrical problems after few years. But I have to admit it’s maybe a bit tougher here in Australia. And the eqs isn’t quite there yet and I hardly like the look of it.
I actually leased the 2022 s500 with adaptive suspension and full semi automatic cruise control. It’s day and night from my 2015 S550 I just sold. Yes it’s expensive, but the experience is 2nd to a Rolls Royce I would imagine. Not regretting the lease. It’s an amazing vehicle with tech to another level.
@@dewrimsirine Too much. It's a lease.. You can look it up based on options you spec out. I went a little overboard. But I own a business, so why not enjoy life a little. Can't take it all with you as they say. I don't plan on keeping it after the lease is up since I'm worried about the long term maintenance costs and sickening depreciation.... *This model S-Class actually looks far nicer than the brand new one. It weirdly looks like a more impressive car than the newer model, which I think looks like an E-Class.*
Very informative review. GOod to know the reliability has been excellent for you. I own two E class Diesels, and there is also an S 350 Bluetec diesel that was on sale until 2013, and they have been the most reliable cars I ever owned, so much as to worry that if I switch to a gas S class it may have problems, like my old 740iL used to have (owned a '9 from 2005 to 2017 or so)
@@p2p104 I bought a 320 CDI Bluetec 2007 in Oct 2016 to ship to my summer home in Greece, where diesel was much cheaper than gas, and also for added passive and active safety, luxury etc. Then I thought the black interior would get too warm there in the summer, so I kept it in the US, and in April 2017 I got a white 2008 same engined 320 Blutetc with beige interior and shipped that one. Those two were my only cars since then. I considered the 250, but this is a later model, it would cost me, with less miles, twice what I paid, or what I paid for both of them. But the 250, if you do a lot of miles, has OUTSTANDING Highway MPG. I only get 32-35 with my 3 liter turbodiesel, but that has a 2.1 lt with MUCH better economy, maybe 45 MPG. If you use Imperial gallon, add 20% to the MPG!
Excellent review. I drive an S550 too. I love your frankness especially about the feeling of success while driving this car. And I love seeing the hood ornament/star while driving. I would hate driving a Mercedes without the hood ornament star!
This question of "comfort" is strange...I have a new Corolla..i find it to be perfectly comfortable...can go on long drives..no problem. And the car is bullet proof and i like the fact that it isn't complex and filled with doo dads. I've had all the brands over the years including big/expensive and have decided Toyota is the best for me because i really hate having to take a car to the dealer for repairs or frequent scheduled maintenance. I don't even like the hassle of changing cars every few years..every ten years is perfect. Just want a reliable car that i don't need to spend a week having to learn all the complex options, dash board, infotainment stuff. I don't even use the few options that's on my Corolla, ie; cruise buttons on the wheel. Lowest model Corolla with the 6 speed manual. Perfect. Small steel 15 or 16 inch wheels means inexpensive tires. Cars now a days all have these ridiculously over sized wheels with wide 19 and 20 inch low profile type tires = expensive and bad ride quality. And if the car has all wheel drive you need to replace all the tires if just one gets ruined after all tires have some wear...or so i've been told is the case with Subarus. I live in snowy icy north eastern North America and have never been let down by 2 wheel drive with snow tires. The Mercedes is handsome ...but i don't fetishize cars and could care less if passer-bys think i'm rich or poor. My self worth is not tied to objects.
jeah i do the same. i onwed once a suzuki swift from the early 90,s. was perfect. then a fiat punto, was okay. then since 3 years a B class from 2006 and nothing is broken. i just drive.
We have a couple of S-classes as taxis here in Finland. 2015 S350dL, S560eL, 2022 EQS450+, 2023 EQS450+, 2023 EQS SUV450+ (coming in April 2023) all have executive massage backseats S350dL is really the best one out of these, has the best ride (due to the others having AMG package) comfort is amazing. Great reliability due to being a diesel and good fuel mileage with quite decent power. Only downside are the looks of the pre-facelift W222. 250k miles and has had nothing but regular maintenance. S560eL is the best looking in my opinion, pinnacle S-class looks wise for me. Tech is just a bit lacking its almost the same as the older S350dL I mean a 2020 car with that nice big screen and no touchscreen? geez. Comfort is a bit worse due to the AMG package but still amazing. Has been really reliable now has 110k miles (in 2 years of us having it) no issues. And hybrid makes it fast with a fair fuel mileage. EQS450+ is an interesting car. Tech wise its amazing and the EQ is pretty good for what's available now. BUT... the interior size isn't there, I'm 6'4 and can drive both S-classes without ever moving my seat forward for customers no matter how big they are but on the EQS I have to constantly adjust my seat and the seats are not nearly as comfortable as the S-class seats. Has had a fair bit of smaller electrical issues etc. backseat massage not working, shutting off for no reason (happened 4 times in 55k miles). Love S-class. For the price its the best and most comfortable cars for the price (we bought them around 1 year old except the EQS's) 7 series doesn't come close comfort wise. We will get the W223 s580eL just because of the much improved hybrid tech and replace the w222. Will be interesting to drive the W223 but I will always love the W222 FL looks.
I own a 2018 S450 and agree with everything you've said. That design is what I am going to call the "sweet spot" for the S Class. The new ones are going to be a technical nightmare with their rear-wheel steering and plethora of useless convenience features. The instrument cluster is as awkwardly placed and styled as that of a Tesla. Also, I'm close to retirement and am afraid of the potential reliability issues I'd face with a new one. If I really wanted to continue driving an S Class I'd just bite the bullet and go the lease route. Thanks for a great video.
That’s a weird statement to make about a new S class potentially being a “technical nightmare”. The S class has always been a leader and early adopter in new tech every single generation, and yours isn’t an exception either as it ages. The last simple S class was the W126.
@@NutellaCrepe Why is my statement weird to you if you essentially agree with it? I wasn't suggesting my 2018 S450 was the exception, only that I prefer it's interior design to the new one. I'm still in awe at the cars Mercedes Benz delivers to the market, I just wish they'd work out the reliability issues and stop robbing us on the service side.
@@beforeandafterguys2112 Huh? V8's are going away. You do know that don't you. Twin turbo V6's are probably the future for luxury sedans as they weigh less and can achieve better [on paper] fuel economy numbers, which is what they really care about. Ultimately it will be electric.
To be fair, this generation of S-Class (W222) shared most of its styling with the same generation of C and E (the tail light design being basically the same on all of them). Mercedes has historically carried the design language of their cars through the entire current generation, but I agree that the W223 is perhaps the most dramatic streamlining of their current-generation corporate design. It is also a polarising style, which is actually entirely valid and I can’t argue that point - if you don’t inherently like it, you can’t help that.
You’re correct. I had driven a friend’s Rolls Royce when my father owns an S 350L. The comfort and the sound insulation was almost the same. Rolls was slightly more quieter but not worth the money from the service point of view as well when compared with an S Class. Great video!
I have a Black on Black 2017 W222. I agree with all your comments and points. I have owned several 7 series and one Audi A8, those vehicles were enjoyable to drive but nothing comes close to my car. I can’t say enough about it. My only gripe is the base audio system. Based on my personal taste, the audio system with front facing subwoofers doesn’t quite measure up to the audio in the Audi A8L.
I absolutely agree with you on the points you made. Especially the look of the W222 in comparison to the current S Class. I was just saying this the other day. The design team, I feel, were lazy with these very basic designs.
You should have bought the wire/wheel warranty. I used to drive E classes with V8’s that were wonderful. Then I switched to the S550 coupé with almost all options including sky magic roof, night vision, exclusive passion interior, high end stereo etc and unless you have a S class, the E class cannot compare with the standard and options ( rear defroster is almost invisible, dual pain windows, everything is in duplicate ( like AC sensor not only in the front dash, but rear parcel shelf, soft close doors, etc). MB in Canada are much more. Even the options, Sky magic is $5000 versus $2500 in the US. My car here was over $180k plus taxes. Payments would be $3000 a month with a sizeable deposit! I would not change from an S class ( if I can afford too). And your S class (V6) does not have all the features of the V8. If the price was cheaper, maybe you would like the new S class. Unfortunately the coupé and convertible are gone, they were too expensive but the coupé will be a future classic!
I understand what you’re talking about when you were saying that you don’t like the fact that the S class looks a lot like the smaller cars. I just recently took a look inside the new C class after already having looked at the newer a class. I’m fairly certain the E class is going to be the car choice since the S class is too big and too expensive for most people. I will say that where Mercedes is correct is that they have made the owner experience of the lower models phenomenal because as long as you have the main features that you would have in the S class you feel as if you’ve gotten more for your money. The one thing that annoys me about Mercedes is that heated and cooled seats are not standard. The cooled seat function is $500 more. It might as well just build into the price of the car and include it in every single car. When you’re spending $50,000 or more on one of these low end cars I would expect that all of these features be included.
They can get away with it because it’s not always a plus for every customer… for example why give customers in Florida heated seats as standard? And the UK versions of all these cars never include cooled seats etc.
WOW! You sound like me! LOL I have owed S-classes since 2004 and SLs even longer. I have both now. I love black on black too! And reliability has been great! I totally agree about the new S-class. My neighbor just got one and I thought it was an E-class. 😮 The back lights look like any average car on the road. Ugh! I want to get a newer one so it will be a pre-owned but it’s so hard to give up the one I have now because it still looks new and runs great. Loved your video. Thank you!
I've owned 2011 E550 4matic since new, it totally beats sportier Audi's or BMW's in terms of comfort and driving experience. When BMW's and Audi's try add comfort and luxury to their vehicles, the driving experience becomes detached, whereas Mercedes Airmatic suspension adds both comfort and engagement. I know the E550 is not a S-class, but it is a mini S-class due to having the same engine and air suspension.
Brilliantly done!! Agree that MB dropped the ball on the design and layout of the new S class. I do own a S550 and am in NYC LI as well. Silky smooth. Absolutely love it! Gotta have that biturbo v8 power. ☺️Curious to know what your replacement is going to be. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as you did the S class. ✌️GT Banna.
I grew up in Europe with my father and uncle always driving Benzes. This is back when there was a big difference in comfort, reliability and offering between a, let’s say, a 1990 W124 and a 1990 Passat. Today, that’s not the case anymore as car manufacturers have narrowed the gap when it comes to offerings. As for the S-Class, the first thing I think of when I see one in NYC is that the guy driving it drives for a living, unless he looks like he’s 80yrs old. It never makes me think that he has money or has achieved any success. Same for the Escalades and Yukons out there. The only expensive Benz that will make me think that the person driving it has got money to waste is when I see a G Wagon. You gotta have money or big issues in the head to waste money on something such as a new G Wagon.
I bought a 2013 CL 550 in 2016 with about 18k miles on it. I replaced the tires and 2 batteries over the years and traded it in in March 2024 (for a 2020 E63s!) with around 49k miles never having had to replace ANYTHING else over that 8 years. It rode amazing, I added a RENNTECH tune and it was amazingly fast and smooth. Some Mercedes are amazingly reliable although I don't put a lot of miles on them.
Thank you!!! Because I totally agree with you on the newer S Class they look like shit! This will be my 3rd and last S Class. I have a 2005 black/black 4 Matic and a 2012 black/black 4 Matic
Damn bro never thought I'd see my local MicroCenter on UA-cam, bless up brotha! Dang dude I know the whole route you took! Thats insane, great video man you are very well spoken
Most who insist on low income end up buying used ones on Finance on very high interest, the cars also have high mileage and were abused thus having major costly repairs awaiting, this is a recipe for disaster.
I drive a 2018 W222 S65 and hands down it is the best car I have ever owned. Civilised when I want it to be and a monster when I get the urge. In my opinion it is the best car money can buy.
new s550 kept for 10 years, 90K miles, about $2K in repairs, excellent condition when i sold it. now have a gle 450suv and sl550, neither any repairs or issues, tho both are in warranty. mb provides excellent service regardless of where the mercedes is purchased. all, incl some previous s's i've owned, excellent cars.
I agree, the new S class is a step down from the W222 look wise. Not sure what Mercedes was thinking. It feels like they had to make a design change to keep current but hit perfection with the W222 design.
My boss just get a new S560. I just completely agree with you. Looks like bigger C-class plus thos displays everywhere..meh. And I am millenial. The older one looks just perfect.
Nice review. I agree with you about the new W223 S-Class. The grill looks like an egg crate. Some people claim the Range Rover is the S-Class of SUV's, what's your opinion on that?
Nice review, I have the AMG version of the S-Class, the S65. Boy, what a difference of the performance and luxury between the models. I'm the 3rd owner of a 2007 S65 (W221) RENNtech; crazy luxury (high end leather everywhere) and the the performance says EVERYTHING! I'm not sure if the S430 or the S550 has night vision displayed in a 9in screen in front of you. I've had my car about five years, their is maintenance of course, but, ohh my lord, what a ride!
been researching and decided o go with a 09 S class 63 Amg all the bells and whistles but at far less price when new probably 120 k now under 10k and looks great btw love you're truthfulness in this video
It's a brilliant plan. Why be limited on sales and revenue selling a $100,000 product when you can keep on selling those but bring in more revenue by offering another vehicle at half the cost??
@@isimonsez because Mercedes Benz is not Toyota. It wasn’t fully about making the best profit margins. Mercedes Benz used to make the best luxury cars money can buy. Now the bean counters have replaced the engineers and designers.
A class in terms of its competition/price point is far superior. Obviously an s class owner doesn’t see the appeal to an A class. However not everyone wants to spend S class money or doesn’t see the need to. The A class makes a statement with how much technology you are getting compared to competitors at that same price.
@@ogbenzel that’s exactly my point though. If you don’t want to spend S class money, buy a different brand. Mercedes should let those people buy something else instead of allowing them to dilute the brand. Mercedes is about prestige and class. There’s nothing prestigious about having a 100k car that looks like the 40k version.
@@S58985 I do understand what u mean. I respect your opinion. I do feel they should give each car more of its own look and personality as opposed to making smaller versions look like bigger versions.
The new 2023 S500 with the AMG package looks awesome nothing IMO compares. Bight one this past September and believe me it’s an eye turner. It absolutely does not look like “everybody else’s” care believe me lol. Furthermore not many people driving around in $100,000 cars period. The new screen doesn’t bother me at all I like it, and the placement doesn’t bother me. The older ones have some of the same features that is true, but IMO the looks of the S500 with the AMG package look way better. And I don’t know which one you’re talking about, but the new S500s absolutely do have massaging seats. Very few, if any (none imo) cars out there look as good as my 2023 S500 (Amg line)
I always pay cash but I buy used. I would like to see a video that compares the best way to own. The S class is all I ever owned except for a 300d back in 1985. It seems you have a real good handle on the buying process.
How would the S Class compared to the new Lincoln SUVs? I heard those ride very smooth and are very quiet. But that S Class specifically the year you have is very very nice mate. 💪🏾
Thanks for your owner review. Something good to add here. Mercedes has invented nearly every safety feature in any car today. The develop it, patent it and then open it to all manufacturers. Of course, the S class gets new safety features first. So you can assume you're in the safest car on the road in this thing. Depreciation and maintenance go hand in hand. Because maintenance on average becomes a nightmare with used S Class cars, it depreciates like crazy. So a 5 year old one goes for half what it cost new. I'm wondering if you've driven to compare a Lexus LS. These are known for a couple things. After 5 years, it'll sell for 90% of what you bought it for. And you'll realize that it's never been back to the dealer for anything but oil changes. I'd like to see if you've driven one and get your thoughts on it. Also on your monthly costs, a new S class is going to have the added dealer markup skyrocketing the price. And now, in October, interest rates are 3 times what they were back in January. So someone leasing is going to get creamed with these added costs. These will both subside in time. Doesn't help you today, but in a year or 2, things will be cheaper.
The new one is going to grow on you yes the new S class does look like the AClass the new layout does look a little too futuristic I had a problem with the new dash layout but overall the new one does look better.
I appreciate the honest review from an actual owner. I have several friends that either own or have own S550s who also say the same about the cars you have said here.......and I agree about the new S Class Sedans. They aren't as attractive to look at. Hopefully Mercedes fixes this issue on the mid-life refresh........anyways, Im actually considering trading in my 2020 392 Scatpack Charger and getting a used 2014-2017 S550 Sedan with about 60k-80k miles on the odom for the price range of about $38k-$45k. Anything I should look at for in these cars that will now have had 2-3 owners before me?......also, Ill be going through a Mercedes dealership and not some used carlot that may happen to have one for like $32k with cheap rims on it with like 5 previous owners or something like that.
I am sure you will enjoy the car, but I would never get an s class without a warranty. The maintenance will kill you. If the budget is 45k, get a newer e class with an extended warranty.
Hello. I currently own a 2027 E class AMG Style package. I have just test driven a S500 plug in hybrid. My current 3 class has air Magic suspension. However the 2018 S class is honestly totally another level. I wasn't sure the difference between the two. They are oceans apart, honestly, The E class is a fine car. Having owned a W212 and W213. To service then is about the same, the insurance is 8 groups higher unfortunately. BUT hat, driving down the road in the long wheelbase S . I felt like someone who has made it in life. My E classes and CLS also my MlP and Clk nevergave me that feeling. Worth every penny .The driving experience is totally sublime.
Well said my guy! I’m 20 with a 2013 s550 with the premium package and massage seats and I love it got the best car at my work all the old heads love it haha, got it for 16k cash last year (140k miles)
If you can't pay cash for your car you should be the cheapest, reliable car you can find. Honestly if you just bought a brand new Honda Accord or Toyota Camry or similar for around 30k to 35k brand new and drove that from brand new for 10 years and sold it for 5k or so, you'd be much better off financially than buying a used Mercedes every few years and all the costs, interest, and related expenses that come with it.
Interesting vid, appreciate the info. Currently the GLS and GLE are the two MB models with the most issues. I've never owned an S-Class but have owned previous gen Lexus LS500 and enjoyed that. I'm actually waiting for the new 2024 E-class wagon to come out and might buy that next. I leased a 2020 MB wagon and loved that vehicle. Good luck with your next car.
The S-Class is much better compared to the Flying Spur in every aspect except touch and feel of most of the buttons. Better upgrade to a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class with the U61 full leather package. I also agree that the V222 and X222 are much better than V223 or Z223.
Leasing is the worst way to drive. I just got myself a second hand S class. 4 years old = like new. Extremely well equipped. I think it has all possible options. Under warranty, paid cash. For 62k€ less than a third of its original price of around 200k€.
Love your review and also assume you are from Guyana. I own a 2011 E550 4matic. I think the S Class is too big for me and the E class has most of the options I need. Now upgrading to a 2015 ML350 fully loaded except for the Off Road package
I like your taste in cars. Luxury large sedans with black outside and -inside. Going with you, the new S-Class has newer tech but it lost alot of road presence and cost way more. But i like to drive more sporty cars tho.
I bought 2015 S550 couple months ago for $29K … with 80K miles … one owner , elderly retired couple …. runs and looks new … it was either new Camry or S550 … no brainer for me after taking both for a test ride … Camry rides like a wheelbarrow compared to S class …
Air suspension problems but that’s about it

@@The-Cat dawg what u talkin bout?
I completely agree with you about the new S-class. Regardless of whether it's actually a better car or not, as some people claim it is, aesthetically I don't love it like I did the W222, especially the facelifted W222 that you had. Personally, I get far too attached to my cars to contemplate selling after only a few years, I'd buy new then run it at least 10 years or until it has been fully depreciated, so depreciation won't be a factor.
Newer mercs don't have the merc vibe anyomore
@@hellcat7394 the expensive models still do!
@@hellcat7394 You are so right!!!
The world is not just China and if you sacrifice your design to just one country, you sacrifice the brand. Exactly what BMW did as well. Sad!
I think the new S Class looks 10X better! And it drives better too.
2014 S550 owner here, and I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH ALL YOU SAID! The new W223 S just doesn't have the presence of the W222.
😂😂😂😂
I got me one 2014 I love it I’m keeping my forever even if I got to replace a engine …
You are first class. Easy to listen to. You have many great years behind the wheel. You know what is best.Thank you for all insight.
Great point!
I can see you never own a RR or even a Bently. If so, you will note there is a difference and the next level of luxury where MB is not.

Lexus LS is a way better car and it will run for 350k miles. Those Mercs are garbage.

This comment section is too rich for me
My first experience with an S class was in 7th grade, a friends drove us to the roller rink in an 420 SEL, W126 I was amazed at how big the back seat was and how rich the black paint looked with the gulideck wheels and the rich tan leather interior.

Does it have issues after 7 years of driving ?

Exterior and Interior are also in great shape, despite me using it for everything and anything - drove in desert highways under high winds, park it often under trees, sometimes park in narrow parking spots, and I do enjoy the power and agility so it's not just idling along rides. Twice I drove from Orange County to Sacramento (over 400 miles) without refueling along the way. Very informative review. GOod to know the reliability has been excellent for you. I own two E class Diesels, and there is also an S 350 Bluetec diesel that was on sale until 2013, and they have been the most reliable cars I ever owned, so much as to worry that if I switch to a gas S class it may have problems, like my old 740iL used to have (owned a '9 from 2005 to 2017 or so)
What E class you got ? Thinking about getting one, just not sure if E250CDI or E350CDI.
Thanks
2015 S350dL, S560eL, 2022 EQS450+, 2023 EQS450+, 2023 EQS SUV450+ (coming in April 2023) all have executive massage backseats
S350dL is really the best one out of these, has the best ride (due to the others having AMG package) comfort is amazing.
@@NutellaCrepe Even the W126 was extremely advanced at the time and holds up fairly well today.
S450 is a wierd v6 s class not really the true v8
Love my gle for 6 years here. Thinking getting s class. Thank you for your updates!
You’re correct. I had driven a friend’s Rolls Royce when my father owns an S 350L. The comfort and the sound insulation was almost the same.
Rolls was slightly more quieter but not worth the money from the service point of view as well when compared with an S Class. Great video!
I have a lexus ls460 I would like get the s550 but lots people say that ls 460 ride feels like the s550 and lexus has better reliability
The s class is meant to be driven by a chauffeur. You sit in the back
Why did you get rid of it?
Brilliantly done!! Agree that MB dropped the ball on the design and layout of the new S class. I do own a S550 and am in NYC LI as well. Silky smooth. Absolutely love it! Gotta have that biturbo v8 power. ☺️Curious to know what your replacement is going to be. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as you did the S class. ✌️GT Banna.
s550 is an amazing car.
The only thing I don't like is the build quality. It has rattles and the leather isn't as good as older Mercedes. It's very unfortunate but the truth
🇬🇾
I have a 2023 S500 with AMG package and I don’t see where any ball was dropped. It looks good very good. No other sedan IMO on the market can compete.
Regretfully, people say that driving an S Class MB in Central London can make the driver look like an executive limousine driver.
Great review, also I know life gets in the way a lot of times but you should try to make more content on cars, you are a great reviewer.
you are ABSOLUTELY right about the new s223, confort of w222 is amazing and the new one is nothing more for the money
Totally stumbled upon Andrew on the car side of UA-cam while following him on the PM side of UA-cam. Gotta love the well rounded content 😂👏🏾
On which channel is his PM side?😁
I love the length but finding parking space can be a challenge.
I drive a 2018 W222 S65 and hands down it is the best car I have ever owned. Civilised when I want it to be and a monster when I get the urge. In my opinion it is the best car money can buy.
It definitely is! So sad that the S65 is discontinued and soon all V12 are discontinued...
new s550 kept for 10 years, 90K miles, about $2K in repairs, excellent condition when i sold it. now have a gle 450suv and sl550, neither any repairs or issues, tho both are in warranty. mb provides excellent service regardless of where the mercedes is purchased. all, incl some previous s's i've owned, excellent cars.
I agree regarding the new 2022-23 S Class. The center dashboard is huge and in your face. I prefer the older model 2014-2021
I don’t care the W140 is still my all time favorite S Class
I agree, the new S class is a step down from the W222 look wise. Not sure what Mercedes was thinking. It feels like they had to make a design change to keep current but hit perfection with the W222 design.
My boss just get a new S560. I just completely agree with you. Looks like bigger C-class plus thos displays everywhere..meh. And I am millenial. The older one looks just perfect.
Amazing review. I wanted to know how is the ground clearance of this car?
hahah i like your personality and the fact that your a business owner, its very aspirational for someone like me, keep up the great work.
Nice review. I agree with you about the new W223 S-Class. The grill looks like an egg crate. Some people claim the Range Rover is the S-Class of SUV's, what's your opinion on that?
You could've got your rim welded for 100 bucks. Would've saved you 2500.
I agree with you the 2015-2018 looks the best so far
Pros, it’s a cool looking car, affordable for the average person. Cons it breaks constantly, and it’s still a Mercedes so it’s expensive to fix.
Have u had any major maintenance issues . Like suspension . I’m thinking bout gettin one was just worried bout suspension issue
I haven't had any suspension issues, I did had to replace the right side coil pack and some other parts to get this car to 100%
Just finished watching your video and subscribed. I liked all your reasons for liking this car so much. Cheers
Thanks
been researching and decided o go with a 09 S class 63 Amg all the bells and whistles but at far less price when new probably 120 k now under 10k and looks great btw love you're truthfulness in this video
Completely agree with your opinion on the new S Class. It’s a shame they diluted the brand by pandering to the $40,000 A Class buyer
I couldn’t agree with you more on the look of the new S class. I am aiming to get the last of the W222 facelift 🙏🏾 preferably the hybrid
Have you tried the Lexus LC500?
I still have my cls 550 till today . Love that car and never sell it . I have a range too
You did a good job in that video! i feel that everything you say is on point! good job and keep on doing videos buddy!
Supremely comfortable pieces of unreliability. They simply aren’t worth the money and the headaches.
Great video! How about the air suspension, how long do the air bags last
I always pay cash but I buy used. I would like to see a video that compares the best way to own. The S class is all I ever owned except for a 300d back in 1985. It seems you have a real good handle on the buying process.
Great video, thanks a lot for the great comments. I started following you last week.
Still the most beautiful looking S Class imo..great video..thanks
Don't like the newer S-Class either the rear lights👎I've had my 2000 S500 since new and it's A1,I like the body style u have!
Great video, however I was really curious what you replaced it with and I cant seem to find your next video? :)
Sorry S class doesn't necessarily mean money anymore. Not when you can lease them and buy them for $20,000 after 8 years. 😂
I love my S63, I truly despise service work I can't do myself. Thankfully, I can do most work myself over a weekend when needed.
How would the S Class compared to the new Lincoln SUVs? I heard those ride very smooth and are very quiet. But that S Class specifically the year you have is very very nice mate. 💪🏾
I am not sure. I have never had or driven a Lincoln SUV, but I think it would ride well.
My best looking S class since the w140.
How are you making money when you've driven it 6 years for 1500 a month and selling it for 65.000?
@@SundayDrives Ill check into those as well. Thanks.
I cracked my rear rim 2016 S550. A wheel shop welded it and it’s as good as new. 200 bucks.
I drove a 2017 model S350. The dashboard was always littered with warning lights, but it ran.
One of my favorite cars I owed. I traded my 2015 S550 in two weeks ago for TRX. Big change but I’m happy with it but still miss the S Class.
Thank you very much for this cool and nice video! :-) Greetings from Germany!
Did the new car arrive ? looking forward to the follow up video, thank you sir
Hello.
I currently own a 2027 E class AMG Style package. I have just test driven a S500 plug in hybrid. My current 3 class has air
Magic suspension.
Nice 2027 e class
Massage seats will fail. Batteries die fast, wheels must be made out of plastic. Other than that it’s the best expensive piece of shit you can buy.
Maybe I missed the follow up video but what did you end up getting to replace this? Was it the Land Cruiser?
Its a good car, but perhaps I should try the Lexus LS500h 😁.
