  • A little background into why I still play this game.
Taken on the Draconis Expanse server. Based on the popular show "The Expanse" featuring PDC-Torp-Railgun based combat, a scale Sol system, the ring space, and Epstein drives.

this is probably tied for my favorite game alongside KSP, JNO, and Pulsar: the lost colony. One of my favorite memories playing this game is when me and my friends were making a massive ship to escape earth for the first time and whenever we launched the entire thing just fell like a rock. literally a weeks worth of progress gone in seconds. worse part about it was that it took out the supports for our shipyard and basically ended up making a domino chain of every single building, grid, and achievement we had made in that world reducing it all to rubble. good times.

Space engineers allows for amazing scenarios, but nothing just works, the game gives you the physics and mechanics, but it’s up to players and communities to have the reason to play. It’s very interesting

Absolutely. Even in a solo playthru, so much can happen and it becomes a unique adventure each time. Digging up one old screenshot, I can suddenly recall a whole chain of events and challenges. Few games come even remotely close.

For me, Space Engineers gives one of the best space survival experiences from what I've seen, having to start off with nothing but some tools and a pod, rover, or whatever, then building a base, rover, ship, and more, along with mods to make survival even better, and not to mention there are whole planets you can visit in real time

One of my favorite play-throughs was when I limited myself to a small-grid rover. No flight, no drills except my portable one, on Pertam on a Keen server. So to cross canyons, I needed to build a bridge. To add reliable power, I needed to trade ores for credits, then buy uranium from an outpost that I has to find. I did allow myself to use other player’s large-grid equipment, which allowed me to build more complicated parts for my ever-evolving rover. It really was a blast!

Still my favorite game, over 11,000 hours and counting! You really never know what can happen next, I've seen some crazy stuff in game and I mostly play solo. 👍

"Remember that time you went all Samurai on that Mammoth? What about when you Pushed that dudes nose into the dirt on Malon. Oh that time you escaped alive with the Data cores through the doomed corvettes hull breach? When you sent in the inforcer to collect... When that enemy lost a warship running away and hit the asteroid." Got a hundred of these and my screenshots are a catalog of carnage. A history of struggles and triumphs. Great Video Alpha, good example of one of those stand out moments that your team will talk about still way later, and those that were there will know.

One of my favorite things to do in Space Engineers is go back and play previous versions of the game. Since Keen stores the last 10 or so versions of the game in the Betas tab you can go back and play prior versions. So far my favorite one is 1.188 where they had just added air tightness but didn't so the survival update so there's still uranium on planets.

But yes ... and yes! And also: Absolutely! :D
I do not play on the draconis expanse server, but i really enjoy your videos because they are, even when modded, classic great space engineer stories. :)

Got about 6700 hours in game. mostly PvP and I played on the original Sigma Draconis I believe up to 2.0, IIRC. Started playing SE when the most asteroids you could have was like 7, with a skybox of asteroids. Still have my BPs from then all the way to current across multiple servers and mods. Had a large game save loaded with mods and a parade formation of my ships from old to new, but that got hard with all the mods used. Praise Klang!

when i first saw space engineers way back in 2013, i figured it wouldn't be much more than a "proof of concept" game for the engine Keen used, but i decided to pick it up anyway and i just watched the game grow from there, its just amazing how much the game has changed. I remember trying to take a rover up the side of the giant volcano on mars just to get to the top, and then ride back down to see the monolith in the crater.
The only thing i would love from the creators at this point is like.....actual procedural generation when it comes to the way planets and moons are laid out, just because right now you can sort of cheese the game by like "scouting" in singleplayer and using those coordinates in multiplayer.

Great video. I love this game. I haven't played in a bit over a year but I've been getting the itch to come back. Might give the server a shot to get a different experience with the Expanse ruleset.

i got into a fight, i lost controll of my large ship, thrusters dead and was dead drifting towards a planet in aka 10minutes. i had alot in storage and couldnt abandon ship. while going max speed dead drifting i had to stop panicing and think "what can i sacrafice on my ship to at least bring us to a stop, it took 7 miuntes of that 10 minute to make sure i didnt rubberband into a wall and die. and repair enough thrust to bring my ship to a stop.

Jesus.. making me feel old with that intro. I bought Space Engineers in 2013 when Early Access for 14.99, it was my first Steam game and why I even downloaded Steam.

Its a great game with great mods to keep the experience fresh and a great community that will probably only give up on the game when SE 2 comes out.
I tried playing on the server for a bit since I really liked the idea of not having jump drives and a big focus on hydrogen/fuel compared to more vanilla or even modded servers where everyone just skips hydrogen because reactors provide infinite* power and ion thrusters lets people just ignore what I feel is a big part of the game(fuel, ship design that allows piping etc).
Unfortunately I cant really play on the server, the near constant 0.3-0.4 or on a good day, 0.5-0.6 sim speed gives me headaches and the knowledge that me spending 3 hours in the game is very likely less than a single hour of 'actual' gameplay due to this low sim speed is just not very motivating. While my gaming time is not exactly worth a lot of money it still feels like a massive waste to basically only get 1/3rd of its value by spending it on this server.
Setting up a small starter base, building/modifying a starter ship etc is something I could get done fairly quickly but on this server with this sim speed its more like a multi-day project just to get started.

      @alphamatte4259  Рік тому +2

      Definitely love this game.
The admin team is aware of the sim issues and has recently removed the NPCs from a few asteroid clusters that have 1.0 constant sim so now new people can spawn there and build up in 1.0 sim.
There are other changes coming but rely on some new physical infrastructure so they are taking longer to come to fruition.

I have well over 3k hours in this game, mostly in creative, i too cannot put it down. Though I tend to be critical of keen and their at times questionable decisions regarding the game, I can always come back and enjoy space engineers simply because of its damn near endless potential for creativity.

@@christphuc actually it just became gold ( out of early access) a few years ago. Early access means the game is unfinished but you still get to play it. Gold means it is considered finished. Alpha, beta and then gold. Early Access allows the community to help shape and form the base game ( like how planets where added to SE as an after thought from the fans). The game is not ten years old, but I would say it like this. I've been playing this space game for almost ten years now. Hope that helps.
