So great to see a kelpie in training. I am getting a 2 yo rescue just like this one next week. Will have lots of work to do, he's not reactive to other dogs, which is great, but is nose to the ground and ignoring the other end of the leash. He has sit and down, but no stay whatsoever. So easily distracted by other dogs at the rescue, and by his nose, but so glad I watched your videos as I could get him to look up to me at times, correct his jumping and reward his sit. Very treat driven. Thanks so much for all the free videos really helped me look at what was driving him, so I could assess whether he has the temperament that I am capable of managing and we can both enjoy ourselves.

Thank you for this. This is the most common issue I try to help my clients with as well. They often look for an easy 5-minute fix, and then I see their eyes glaze over when I'm trying to explain how there's foundational consistent work you need to do and behavior you need to understand to succesfully do so.

@@willathertoncaninetraining I'm having massive improvements after just two weeks of discovering your videos. I'm working through your videos and completely changed my behaviour. The only area I'm not making great progress in is my 9 month collie chasing runners. If I see the runner I am making him sit stay and release when the runner is gone. He does this fine now, but if a runner comes out of nowhere he 50% of the time will take chase. He is either on a long leash or a 3m leash in public. Do you have any videos of what behaviours I can project to reduce his interest in runners. His recall is around 90% unless there are high stimulus situations like runners or rabbits. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your videos I feel that more dog owners should be educated before getting a dog, I know I wasnt educated enough

Just found your channel and it is amazing, this video is brilliant. Thank you, I have had Labs all my life, and the older one always helped train the next in line. I have had problems training my most recent lab as i lost the older one quite young, and this little blondie has been a handful. She is the most intelligent dog i have ever owned, and from a young age has done complicated dummy retrieves and drills that amaze me. I see a lot of the same behaviours in this collie, so thank you, i must have been inconsistent with her and must go back to lead training to iron out the kinks. It all makes sense now where i have gone wrong, fortunately at 2 1/2 i think i can correct it

I loved this video it makes me think that I'm doing something wrong with my dog too. You see we got him a few years ago from someone who couldn't care for him and we needed a dog partly for security but he was already about a year or two old and had some bad habits which weren't helped by us not giving him proper attention. So cut to now where he's been getting out a lot recently because I haven't been walking as much due to the rain, but I feel like it's making us regress in his training or like I'm giving him bad habits. Sometimes I'll walk him after he escapes so that he won't come out again or try to break out if we mend the fence, but others I'll put him back in as punishment and not walk him which makes him continue to act up in a cycle. He wouldn't do this before but that was because we had been neglecting him, so he just accepted always being the backyard since we thought oh he's out of control and will try to run away. I'm worried I'm showing him that he can get what he want by acting up or that I'm being inconsistent.

People are saying there as no solution. The problem was lack of consistency. There for be more consistent. What part of that went over everyone’s heads? As well as, ongoing restructure with appropriately handling the dogs adjustment period.

Restructuring the relationship! Correcting yourself and the dog to correspond to explicit and consistant rules boundaries and expectations whatever you decide those are 😉

I'm attempting to help my mother train a working breed puppy who is now about six months old. I've had much more experience with dogs and in fact, this is my mother's first. I can surmise that she's hitting him and very probably shouting at him almost constantly. When he's alone with me, he's a great dog with only a few very normal puppy behaviours, but at home he's always usure of what's happening at any given moment. One minute she's cuddling him, giving him treats and praising him for being cute, and the next she's smacking him for jumping up. I have tried to gently suggest that she learn more about dog training and behavour, but I have to be delicate.
How do I convince her that she is in error without being too harsh?
He is a good boy, and deserves a better start.

He's a kelpie with a high prey drive...needs lots of thing to do to keep that super active brain focused and reduce the hyper vigilance....I've just rescued an Australian cattle dog...same issues they just need time and affection along with letting them now who the boss is, otherwise they'll walk all over you..Nice vid by the way 🙏

Do you have a video on helping to correct this? After watching this video, I think that this fits my dog, she is 2 year old Australian Shepard and will bark when ever someone other than my wife or I pull into the drive way. On walks she will walk in a nice heel as long as treats are present but will quickly step out after being rewarded. This video has made me realize we have been very inconsistent with our reactions to her behavior.

Wow this dog is so bad (anxious) that I can't actually watch the video with my dogs around b/c this dog's whining is triggering them!? That's only happened once before ever (years)!! It so weird/sad that some dogs are just born this way (anxious) & it often takes a lifetime of training/monitoring to control it. Not many people have that kind of commitment these days, & folks like Will end up with large "lifetime" (foster-fails) canine packs. I think Caesar (Milan) has about 100 (resident) dogs now at his canine center!

A very reasonable question , sometimes we have a problem with how we interpret the language we use. In my opinion the the dog was highly anxious as you might put it ( because of a lack of clear leadership & guidance). Which causes the dog to act in fearful way ( unsure if it, the dog is safe in the situation or environment). The dog at the time was not displaying the typical signs you were looking for of fight or flight.
