Hey Diff, back in the late 60s you could pick up beetles for $10 - $15 dollars hete in Wisconsin. Because of our dumping millions of tons of salt on rhe roads in winter a beetle only lasted about eight years. Another issue with an air cooled vehicle in cold weather was the lack of heat. You needed a windshield scraper for rhe inside because your breath would frost up the windows. I took the body off a 1960 beetle, welded rims together to make dual rear wheels and reversed the front wheels to get a wider stance. We had more fun driving that death trap around the fields and forest than I could possibly express. My younger brother took it in the snow on the snowmobile trails for miles. Great fun on the frozen lake.😊 My poor mother had to put up with all sorts of craziness from us boys! Thanks for memories and great tips!
13:46 Watching you cut the Bug pan with a plasma torch reminds me of when my friend Tommy Joe and I cut one down using Jet Rod. This was our second buggy, the first was a flathead 8 Buick.
Thanks Diff! Great show! I have a man crush on the LAUGH of that assistant of yours ! You should have him on more often and he seems to be a decent mechanic and that laugh is contagious!
I feel your pain on rusty stuff. I live in Canada in the province of Ontario. Our roads are covered in salt in the winter and our cars definitely show it!! Good job Brother, keep it up!!!!
@@ratrodsafrica it makes for great content for the rest of us to watch. And probably not that you need tons more projects, at least you have something to record and have fun with, and the rest of us have fun with as well. All the best from Canada.
If you did all this work in just one Wednesday, you are very, very fast. It would take me at least three days and then I would be happy with the progress. You are also filming it, which takes time too. Anyway I am happy that you are making these videos as they are instructive and also nice to watch.
Set the Renault body on and fill in all the open areas. If it was really that easy. I think you chose a good undercarriage for this project. You do have good vision for your builds. As always keep up the good work.
I very much enjoy Your fabrication. I thought You were in the clear on making the wheelbase shorter as Mother Nature had turned so much of it into iron oxide. Every time You turn around there is another " Jake in the box. " Best Wishes Div.
Very interesting.. I have an Orange 1973 thing 4 dr Conv. hasn't run in years, I have 2 extra engines. I caught a glimpse of a 37 Chevrolet.. they were a good old car.. I always find your work among the best quality of all.. Paul in Ohio USA
Well Diff, it looks like you're up to your ass and elbows in a full blown project. This is what I live for. Problem solving 101. Another great video! Keep up the good work.
Diffmister.. Looking good. It will be a fun little drive. Full Custom Ian. Building a bug. He cut his chassie all up. Lowered the suspension 6 inches and kept wheels perfect. Good look.. Be interesting to see what it looks like finished..Lekka Boet Lekka. .
Dif, the floor is already looking strong and road worthy, by the time you're done with it, it will be stronger than new. I liked how you stepped around the transmission tunnel with pieces of short angle irons to fix floor. Good thinking man.👍
I've never worked on a VW or early Renault's, 😂 Mostly worked on Holden's and Ford's, but it's looking like a lot of work, can't wait to see what's happening next, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Brother your skills are beyond awesome and your originality in fabrication is phenomenal !!!!! You are truly an artist among artists !!!! I would love to be able to be a patreon but unfortunately I am disabled and have no current income !!!! I enjoy every adventure that you share with us !!!! Hopefully I will have income soon so I can buy a t-shirt and sticker to help support your channel !!!! Have a lekka one brother from another country
If dry ice is easily available where you are, it makes removal of tar coatings like the floor pan super easy. Freeze the tar with chunks of the ice and then it just shatters right off.
Nitroracer - Rolling Thunder Motorsports ... Hey Brother, a shop tour would be a great idea. Interested in seeing the outside and the landscape as well.
Outstanding job on cleaning up that VW floor plan. Had to kind of laugh when you two were fighting the front end pieces, I was saying to the computer "just unbolt the whole thing" BUT you got it done. Following this build with interest.
Hi Div like you said have to line up a few things before shortening the chassis back bone may need to refit the front axle and wheels to line up the pedals and grear stick may need to cut in two places to fit everything even refit the rear wheels to sure cheers from OZ
Hey diff love the idea .. not really much left once you lose the rust .. think you might need a bigger box to put the bits in .. not much going to argue with the plasma torch on the ole floor pan though .. looking forwards to seeing this build grow and see how happy the wife will be when you're done . All the best from the UK
It’s called a tunnel buggy. They use to make old dune buggies by cutting the pans out and leaving the tunnel and building role bars around the tunnel and square tubing the floor pan. They then added a metal mesh floor as the pan so the sand would just drop through as you wheeled around the dune.👍👍👍👍 Yup I’m and old sand rail guy😎👍
Div you've made a lot of progress. It was a big job but just imagine what it would have been like in the days before plasma cutters, reciprocating saws, cut off wheels and mig welders. Thanks see you next time.
Dear Dif. 👍👌👏 Again very "weld" done, Sir, very well indeed! The old bug frame will definitely be better than new after it has gone through your mostly gloveless hands. 😁 ;-) I hope that the Renault body will fit well. It's such a cute car. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved life forms (humans and dog).
I’m liking it your Doing good work. That is quite rotten I’m amazed it got home in one piece. 😂. I’ve shortened a chassis for a dune buggy. Still a wip😂. Can’t wait to see the next video keep up the good work.
Hey Div, This video sure brought back some memories. My first VW experience was very much like this one. I think I shortened it by 16 inches after removing both sides of the floor pan. Because I had never worked on a VW, I loved learning about how they are built. I wish I could be there with you to build the Renobug. I think it is going to be a fun car when driveable. Take care
Always lots of fun! I'm not sure I'd of gone to all that work. I might have taken the yellow cars frame and chopped it and welded the VW rear pipe fame on the back and the square front VW mounting plate on the front. Body mounts would be right and trans axle would fit the back and front steering would fit the front. Master cylinder and pedals would fit with the body too.
The only thing stuck in my mind was I thought that dog was a huge oil spill on the floor and omg Wayne has shoes on,,😂😂😂, it's looking like that rusty mess up front will be a great place to take that 11.5" out of the wheelbase nice work as always guys
Wayne’s maniacal laugh fits right into your Frankenstein lab! You’ve got at least three projects going, we never know what’s coming next, and it’s GREAT. Don’t worry man, I won’t hold those “bit#* mittens” against you!! 😊👍👍
I’m enjoying this build. I think I’d rather see the Reno extended to fit the VW frame. Bugs aren’t known for tons of leg room as it is. I’ll be following. TU.

I seem to recall the beach buggies in the 60s and 70s used beetle floorpans shortened by 10 inches
I think the boss will like this new build. Wayne is a pretty great friend to have and thanks for another cool video Div!🍺
That rust was nothing for you to fix.... Nice work Dif!
Thanks 👍
Back in my beetle hot rodding days we called what you have left of the floor, the wishbone. Loving this build!!
When we were kids We had a row of old renaults, we used to play race in them. Cool little cars
Can't believe Wayne drove that home and it didn't fold in half. Enjoyed the video.
Me too!😅
Div, you are DA MAN!

Brings back memories. Haven't worked on a VW since the 70s
Diff you and Wayne make a good team. Yall are having a lot of fun
I was amazed it was that much shorter. Goes to show how much the perspective of the 4 door makes a difference...I am off to binge the next one
It's great to get home and watch a video on Wednesday 👍 good start on the Renobug till next time Mr Diff 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can't wait to see the "Forest Engineering" On this one. Cheers Diff.

Good day to you.
to think the bug was driven home. good to see the progress on the fiat bug. the wife will be happy :}

Yikes! Way more work on that floor than I was figuring! You do have the skills to fix it! Looking forward to seeing more progress, Div.
More than I figured too!😅

😂 We can never figure out which is the damn last bolt!
Div and Wayne doing happy wifes Wednesday. Thanks guy's you make a lekka tean. Take csre guy's.
Howdy from Texas… suggestion - put a vertical and horizontal cross brace on yer sheet roller.
Yeah, been threatening to do that for some time...😅
Looking forward to next wifey Wednesday
Great close-up shot of the cut-off wheel going through the rust!

Exciting really looking forward to this build. 😊

Takes me back to the 70'-80's all the 50's-60's bugs and Gia's I built and how guys used the wishbones to build trikes. Another awesome project!!
Alright another nice start to a cool little project on wifey Wednesday. Take care Div and your friend Giggles.

Hi Dif? I really do like the way you explain on your project. Can't wait to how this will turn out buddy. I'll keep following.

Great start. Looking forward to part 3.
