Hey Diff, back in my youth I became somewhat of a beetle expert. In 1969 I'd do engine swaps for $10.00. I was making $2.50 an hour at my regular job and could do an engine swap in an hour. Now that im older and smarter I still work on old junk! So much for the swarter part! 100%, the details are the time consuming part! Thanks!
Lots of details to do. But you need to congratulate yourself for all the high quality little details you have already done. The beauty of a pile of little tasks is you can complete each one in short snippets of time with mini tiny goals completed. Before you know it they are all done. When I first retired I thought of all the big jobs I wanted to do. That got discouraging. So I listed many tiny projects that I never got around to while working and had many little satisfactions to get behind me. Then I tackled some larger projects. Keep up the quality of work. It all pays off. Love your attention to detail. Can't wait for each video. Dan from Oregon
It's always the little things that take the longest time, have patience and get it right so you don't have to modify or do it again. This stuff is important to future progress. Thanks Div.
Dif, your such an inspiration to so many, and you are a endless source of wisdom and ideas. Have a wonderful South African Christmas and New Year with family and friends. Enjoying from Tacoma, Washington. God Bless.
More Boet Well, I have just finished building a living in shed in my garden. It started out as a new home for my 2.1 meter Coronet Major wood lathe, industrial bandsaw and other wood tools. Now it’s a spare room. No idea how that happened. But I am loading the videos and writing it up. Like your build here, I kept on tweaking and fixing things that were fine. But the result is worth the effort. Your Renobug certainly is getting better and better. Loved the flashback story telling. Hopefully the new shop will have a high roof for a decent lift. Have a good week.
Awesome afternoon brother from another country it looks awesome !!!!!! And you shouldn't feel any remorse for your shop or anything about your projects !!!!! You are an awesome craftsman and you do more things with less things than most people can do with all the modern equipment brother !!!! The Mrs will be so proud of this car when she takes it for it's first drive !!!! Just don't get discouraged brother !!!! When it starts getting tedious just take a break
I was thinking of all you were talking about concerning all the work your doing and all the work a head of you. One real deep passion stood out to me YOU LOVE YOUR WIFE VERY MUCH. GOD BLESS YOU DIF,YOU ARE A VERY SPECIAL MAN.TAKE CARE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Im good at dreaming up work for myself too, a simple vespa custom scooter turned in to a full blown Millitary build, complete my eith two way radio and built in sound system with Ammo box panniers now about to get a side car and a replica Browning machine gun, but still i could be a dead beat drunk instead i suppose, love the Renobug, definitely do the roof rack.
14:10 Yellow tins? very Cal-look! I did my tins in black but went mad with a pinstriping brush! Yes I think yellow tins would look great! You won't regret buying the shiny fan pulley. Great for static timing with the degree marks printed on.
Just a thought to dress up the top pulley further I used a capped chrome wheel lug nut just shortened it a little. Gives it a splash of glamour. Looking good Div.
It's all progress no matter what your doing it's always one step closer or one more bite. And pretty soon your done and cruising the car shows with your Bride. Take care Diff. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
As you pointed out mate, this is the tough hump of any project… you work flat out, turn around and there’s no visible reward yet! Hang in there brother or you’ll be back on the beans 😂… to make an omelette, first you must break some eggs… 👍
It looks great Diff, You’re lucky to have a good friend that laughs all the time. I think you should try to make that engine as quiet as possible, as far as the exhaust system for your wife. She will not want her ears buzzing by the time she gets to the store. I like the idea of painting the engine shrouds yellow.
Diff looking good the progress is making sure you get great groceries. Lol. Great to see you always hope your health is improving and have a lekka one brother
Hey my brother, well I suppose the Mrs is very happy with the progress of her new car and I suppose that you are eating a lot better lately as well! Lol It’s really coming together quite nicely and I must admit that the little bit of glossy paint so far really looks good. Have a great week Diff and kind regards to the Mrs as well!
The weather is kind of crazy these days. Sahara Desert was covered in snow pretty recently. So, you better have a car heater and not need it than need it and not have it. VW has some easy to install gas powered ones too. Don’t skimp on your Lady’s health and safety.
If it was not for me following the builds of "out of this world" - Full Custom Garage, Ian, all the way in Arizona, USA - who mentioned oneday that he follows Div, all the way on the other side of the big pond, down in South Africa, I would maybe not have came across the Wife-pleasing custom creater Div and the Oats eating barefoot mechanic, Wayne.... The funny part is, I'm "just" up in North West..
You're in the most satisfying stage of car building and i would love to give you a hand and sharing this funny stage with you! I wish i would be that far with my project so i can enjoy working on it. Thanks for sharing Div.
Yes spraying definitely quicker however you will have paint overspray on everything in the room like I have done before and then my wife has me clean it up . More work.
I just want to let you know, that I appreciate all of your videos , your work is amazing and I give you 2 thumbs up my friend, I can’t wait till I see you drop another video. You are amazing man with talented friends, I thought I could hear in the background noises monkeys 🐒 or something like them. Ur friend from Kentucky in the states. Have a lucka day and week, sincerely appreciate it all. Brian…
making good progress i noticed with my project you go backwards then forward then sometimes two steps back to correct my mistake. But progress non the less 😁
That to me is visual progress indeed so if you follow the steps and hold off impatience you will come out ahead cause you can work around the engine easier before the the marriage of the two... Just my 2 cents
I don't know about other languages, but in American English it's valance, pronounced just like balance. Valence, with a long A, has something to do with electrons in the shell of an atom.
A crude Americanism for what you are doing is " Polishing a turd " A never ending process! I have several semi polished ones in my shop. I love what you do ! Keep up the good work . LOL !!
Your doing everything you can before you loose your fingerprints from all the sanding and body prep thats ahead for your worst nightmare..shiney yellow paint😂 happy sanding🤭😅😅
Not repainting my jeep I am chopping out all the rats nest wiring done by previous self proclaimed experts 😂. Everything will be worth the pain and suffering once finished. But man I'm losing my mind in the mean time. 🙄 Keep fighting the good fight Dif you will get it done and so will I. While South Africa is Hot like where I live in the Philippines you are right a heater is not really needed but keep in mind your working with an air cooled engine so some of the shrouding isn't for heating but engine cooling instead. Be careful about eliminating too much shrouding.
This is definately a labor of love and it shows. Beautifully done my friend . Your wife is a lucky gal ,this Bug is better than new.Wyoming says hello!
It looks nice, and now with all the protection from the sticky stuff it will last much longer. Did you already have one of those favorite meals that you deserve?
@@ratrodsafrica hahaha that is good news, then we do not have to do a crowdfund for a lawyer in order to get you the favorite meals that you deserve 😁😄👍
Brother you are awesome just go at your pace and when the Mrs takes it for a spin you will be smiling as much as she will !!!! Awesome adventure as always brother
It is nearly there and that light at the end of the tunnel is now very visible. Keep stepping forwards Dif. Got to see that engine with it's Yellow tinware. 👍
Duv, When you shortened the chassis you didn’t mention the width of the chassis that I remember. Did you consider the width of the wheels and what were your considerations regarding wheel width?

Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plains?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Agree 100%, the less glamorous details can often end a project, way to keep it going for the wife, haha!
Lots of details to do. But you need to congratulate yourself for all the high quality little details you have already done. A higher shed roof for a two-post lift was a problem for Future Div...except Future Div is NOW! Love your work and your videos, man!
Thanks man!
It's always the little things that take the longest time, have patience and get it right so you don't have to modify or do it again. This stuff is important to future progress. Thanks Div.

You have put a lot of work into this project and it shows. Attention to detail is your work ethic and the dream is working. Nicely done Diff.

California style looks cool in engine bay pulley etc

You're doing some fantastic work! Have a happy Christmas and lets both stay healthy in the new year.
It doesn't matter if you like it, it only matters if the wifey does. Good work mate.

Merry Christmas from sunny South Africa!
I love when the underneath of the vehicle is pristine the the body has the ratrod look. It looks great!
I drive a 82 DJ5 Mail Jeep so I'm quite use to driving a right hand drive. It's like driving on the wrong side of the road in England
