I laughed when she first looked through the peephole and gasped in fear. What's so scary about a girl stood outside? She doesn't know somethings up yet! Lol
+WHITE DEER For what I understood, she was in some sort of accident that got the girl killed and had been having visions of her which is why she moved to the new apartment. So I'm assuming she recognized the girl standing at her door and the gasped because she had thought she would be free from such visions by moving away and starting a new life but the visions continued because they were in her head. Some sort of PTSD allucinations, judging by the end when she is killing herself with the pillow.
Oh...there was a ghost alright! Whether there was meant to be one or not, if that's how she died, there was a ghost, or SOMEONE/THING there cuz a person cannot suffocate themselves that way. Completely impossible. You would pass out b4 dying, letting go of the pillow, allowing you to then breath. Just FYI, ya know?
@@MissTique247 Good point, Kathy. The producers couldn't find an invisible ghost to play the part. They couldn't afford CGI so they just had her push the pillow against her face and they were hoping we wouldn't notice her arms doing it. LOL j/k no really, that's a good point.

Very sincere attempt. There are three things that I think you should know. One is specifically about the horror genre. 1. Expositions are an art. You need to give the audience a back story without making it feel like filling the blanks. The diary was a good option because the exposition would have been an narrative, however, the first minute or so of this footage was wasted showing the laundry being done and coffee being made. In a short movie that is wasted precious space. 2. You should be very careful about making the antagonist in a horror movie speak. Giving them a voice means humanizing them and "breaking a wall". Some movies like Jaws didnt show the shark properly until the end. Blair Witch Project showed nothing, leaving everything to the audience's imagination. Just remember, the scariest monster lives in your head. What scares me wont scare you? So be careful about giving your monster a face and a voice. That is why some people felt a little scared but most people didnt feel frightened of a sweet looking girl in a pretty dress. 3. One page of script should translate to one minute of screen time. There are some exceptions but that is usually the standard. If you have a six minute movie, the script must be six pages long. If its not, you have to ask yourself if the writing was economical and spread enough.
I'm not sure if you've seen it, but there's an amazing British advertisement about road safety where some guy is going about his daily life, and keeps seeing this dead boys body everywhere. The message is so clear, immensely powerful and ridiculously freaky and it only runs for 30 seconds. Nothing is said. I feel your ghost spoke too much, like at one point they had a full on convo. She may as well have sat her down and made her a cup of tea. Xp I agree with the OP's advise on that part. Nice work though man.

Actually is a conjuration of the ghost with a force, as you can see she' struggling to remove the pillow, but her hands are glued forcing the pillow down on her face as if her own arms developed some life of its own. And whats even stranger, you can see if she had a seizure before the door closes on its own. Thats is how I can see with my interpretation.

To me horror is that all these young 20-somethings in horror movies live in nicer apartments than I do. Plus hers had a friendly ghost that said hello to her and went in the kitchen to try and whip up a cup of tea. The girl was super-unfriendly and then went cray-cray and smothered herself, which I'm not even sure is possible. I think a survival reflex kicks in.
I love this horror short. Now I think I get the storyline but correct me if I am wrong. A lady named Ellen killed a girl by accident and her ghost came back to haunt Ellen. The only way the ghost will leave Ellen alone is by her killing Ellen by covering her face with a pillow until she stops breathing which makes it 50 50. This ghost seems to see eye for an eye.
The camera angles at the beginning were great. I kept expecting something to pop out as the woman shifted. And it was disorienting because she kept twisting and moving. The apartment was creepy, too. No windows that I could see and it's tight and bare with no where to hide. The white hall creeper me out the most since there was no "life" in it (colors, shapes, furniture). The only time there's a release from that tension is when she goes into the other rooms where there is at least some color (grey). Good job!
There's nothing nice about it. I mean if you were in a place like this the owner of a TV channel not a lot of coffee but this is a channel owner who wants to laugh at us in movies that are ruined by your mother
just a thought....perhaps it wasn't a ghost at all but maybe this girl suffers from split personality disorder and the "ghost" is the other her, so by getting professional help ( she said shes not crazy), she "killed" her and that's why she is actually suffocating herself at the end.....
my thought is she did something terrible to this girl, idk, bullied her and caused her to commit suicide, killed her in a drunk driving accident, something like that and the guilt haunts the main character to point that she goes crazy and kills herself idk im rambling XD

Veemsen Lama The title of the film doesn't make sense because the problem goes way back into her past as she writes in her diary. The cinematography is a little too shaky which somewhat disrupts the attention of the viewer. It could be more sorted if the camera was kept still when it had to. The storyline is good, excluding the title, but the concept is cliched. I also loved the fact that the ghost doesn't really have any unwanted gory make-up on. :)
Wow...lots of negative comments below....I studied film at Northwestern University...I found your short film quite scary. I made my own back story, pieced together from the minimal dialogue..love the shot of the woman's feet and legs kicking as she suffocates and struggles. LOVE the doll falling from the headboard in her bed...Good job!!
Change the name. ..this is not a haunted house/ apartment story its about a haunted girl. Call it Guilt trip or Unforgivable or something to do with a person haunted by someone they've accidentally killed , this has nothing to do with the apartment where it happens... its all about the back story. Was good though, once I knew what was happening.

I must say , this was a very pleasing short film, because the plot wasn't given away at first. When the girl heard a knock on the front door and looked through the peep hole, she was startled. It had me pondering in curiosity as to why. This made me more interested in the conclusion of the film. The suspense of the actresses combined with the growing music, were both intriguing. However, when it was the girl's time to die, she was suffocated by a pillow. This to me was a bit PG as to what I was expecting (a gruesome and horrifying death). All in all, I enjoyed this film and the artistic ability to direct, produce, and edit this fascinating project. Job well done.
Hey, you won hearts by subtly showing that what killed the woman was guilt, and that she freed herself from what would have remained with her for the entire life and stayed with her wherever she'd have gone. Maybe, that's how we define ghosts.
It’s actually a shame that she has to deal with this after moving into a fancy apartment like that.. I would have went to the leasing office and ended my lease agreement early. 😂😂😂
The first thing I thought when watching this was that it has really nice camera work. The script wasn’t very well put together but it did amuse me. All in all a good attempt, keep at it!
1. I don't think there is a paranormal entity that can open a door. 2. No one in their right mind would casually sit and speak with a ghost like that. 3. Great story, poorly executed.
This was well made and the actress is pretty good. I don't why but it just wasn't that scary but I can't pin point why. Maybe it's the music or the pacing? I think it's the pacing. Please keep making more of these you have some real talent !! I really enjoyed this ,I just didn't get scared really but all of this takes a lot of talent to put together and the idea is great. The one thing that did kinda creep me out was the door closing at the end. Anyways I just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed this and I really hope to see more from you!! Great job
Ok, this wasn't the worst, but far, far from anything good. Too fast into the ghost, her reaction to seeing the woman outside her peephole was delayed and staccato, there needed to be an explanation of how she killed the girl, and the ending made no sense. The whole story needed more buildup and if she was crazy from guilt that needed more build up and explanation as well. Everything just happened way too fast and left you too confused to even be remotely creepy.
Really liked this; I really liked the way the story unfolded. I knew as soon as she saw the girl at the door that she recognized her, so that whole aspect really worked for me, and the journal filled in more. I thought it flowed beautifully. It was creepy, and rather sad as well. Really well done in my opinion.
Acting in this one was very well done. Definite creep factor in the story. Proceed with caution with watching this if you live alone. A bit of a surprise ending...

Gave this a like. The bedroom scene wasn't exactly well lit but the film was nicely shot otherwise, also well acted. The editing seemed pretty much on the mark. I've always liked the psychological/paranormal sub-genre of horror. Thanks, Vapp..........

Camera work was magnificent at the beginning, following her, then shifting to the coffee cup as she drank. Superb. I enjoyed it right up to the end, where i'm 50/50 on the ending. I love the idea, but you can't technically smother yourself.
Moral: we can change the whole environment around us just by assuming or imagining something so no matter how hard the time is, be positive and carefree and the whole environment around you will be full of happiness and joy 🙏🙏🙏

Well done, it was worthy watching it. However, there are several aspects and issues about apartment 41 which could have been done differently. For example, first, the camera perspective changes too often and the camera is like shaking a little bit. This makes the scene a little bit unclear and hard to follow. Second, creating tension and making the viewers excited is what makes horror movies and scenes so special and why people like to watch them. Although it had those moments when something was building up, it was still not exciting enough to make you afraid or feel like "I can't wait what will happen next". The beginning was a bit too long, but it was quite ok. There, the camera perspective was ok as well until it switched too often. The viewers want to see most of the apartment to get an impression of the surrounding. Only the moment when someone was on her door and she saw the mysterious figure was way too fast and took away the tension. Before this happened, she didn't notice anything really suspicious. There weren't signs of someone already being there. Besides the silent atmosphere of the apartment, nothing would have made anyone afraid or giving them the feeling that "something is wrong here". Coming to the note she wrote down about the apartment, this was way too late. It was simply in a wrong order. That she showed of infront of the door could also happen after she writes down the letter. Elsewhere, this "hello Ellen" and the water turning on by itself should have been put more in the beginning before she sees more of her. Instead of a note, I don't see anything wrong if she simply talked in her mind so that we would hear it. So, the sequence should have been different, creating more tension and taking less away. In a moment when the horror is revealed, e.g. when the mysterious, scary woman shows up and one sees her, the scene will usually get more chaotic and scary. The protagonist usually cannot calm down after this event and is in permanent fear. It won't be like: "Hey I saw something creepy outside the door and now, everything is calm. Let me write down how beautiful this apartment is." No, she would rather be frightened and ask herself what was going on. At least such a reaction would be more believable. In this story, the protagonist obviously had more background information than the viewer. The story should have let us known that pretty much at the beginning or middle before the paranormal activities take place. There are several ways one can create tension and make everything more mysterious and unsettling. For this, making usage of lights (e.g. flickering), ringing bells (what was done here), phone rings, especially mirrors, water, things suddenly falling on the ground by their own, glass breaking, blood appearing in certain places etc etc.. The possibilities are almost endless. Things have to be out of order and the protagonist has to ask their own what is going on here. Cases like 'she looks right through the door's peephole and sees her' are way too predictable. The end was also quite ok. People are saying that the antagonist should not speak with her. Well, usually the horror figures don't talk much and are simply creepy. However, this is really up to you. Here, it wasn't actually a bad idea since we got to understand more about the background story. The very end of it with the door was also OK and quite conventional, although it was a little bit confusing. But we can overlook this part. I am fine with the end. Besides all of the criticism, the apartment had a dark beautiful atmosphere. The protagonist acted very well. It had a background story. Paranormal activities were going on. Even the creepy girl as a horror figure was well chosen. That she appeared and then suddenly disappeared and her voice was also quite good. Creepy women and girls are always a great idea for horror movies. Usually, if someone saw such a figure, one wouldn't open up the door though. But those are the controversial parts and people have a different opinion on them. People are different and act differently. Nonetheless, it was worth watching it, even if it could be better by working on those parts I mentioned. There is still enough space for speculations and interpretations which is definitely not bad. After all, it was three years ago. So, at least one can make an exception of this and see it as quite entertaining.

Apartment 41 this short horror film really scared the shit out of me !!! Awesome 👍 😁 one of my favorites !!!
The camera angles at the beginning were great. I kept expecting something to pop out as the woman shifted. And it was disorienting because she kept twisting and moving. The apartment was creepy, too. No windows that I could see and it's tight and bare with no where to hide. The white hall creeper me out the most since there was no "life" in it (colors, shapes, furniture). The only time there's a release from that tension is when she goes into the other rooms where there is at least some color (grey). Good job!

just a thought....perhaps it wasn't a ghost at all but maybe this girl suffers from split personality disorder and the "ghost" is the other her, so by getting professional help ( she said shes not crazy), she "killed" her and that's why she is actually suffocating herself at the end.....
my thought is she did something terrible to this girl, idk, bullied her and caused her to commit suicide, killed her in a drunk driving accident, something like that and the guilt haunts the main character to point that she goes crazy and kills herself idk im rambling XD

Veemsen Lama The title of the film doesn't make sense because the problem goes way back into her past as she writes in her diary. The cinematography is a little too shaky which somewhat disrupts the attention of the viewer. It could be more sorted if the camera was kept still when it had to. The storyline is good, excluding the title, but the concept is cliched. I also loved the fact that the ghost doesn't really have any unwanted gory make-up on. :)

I made my own back story, pieced together from the minimal dialogue..love the shot of the woman's feet and legs kicking as she suffocates and struggles. LOVE the doll falling from the headboard in her bed...Good job!!

Change the name. ..this is not a haunted house/ apartment story its about a haunted girl. Call it Guilt trip or Unforgivable or something to do with a person haunted by someone they've accidentally killed , this has nothing to do with the apartment where it happens... its all about the back story. Was good though, once I knew what was happening.

I must say , this was a very pleasing short film, because the plot wasn't given away at first. When the girl heard a knock on the front door and looked through the peep hole, she was startled. It had me pondering in curiosity as to why. This made me more interested in the conclusion of the film. The suspense of the actresses combined with the growing music, were both intriguing. However, when it was the girl's time to die, she was suffocated by a pillow. This to me was a bit PG as to what I was expecting (a gruesome and horrifying death). All in all, I enjoyed this film and the artistic ability to direct, produce, and edit this fascinating project. Job well done.

The first thing I thought when watching this was that it has really nice camera work. The script wasn’t very well put together but it did amuse me. All in all a good attempt, keep at it!
1. I don't think there is a paranormal entity that can open a door.
2. No one in their right mind would casually sit and speak with a ghost like that.
3. Great story, poorly executed.

This was well made and the actress is pretty good. I don't why but it just wasn't that scary but I can't pin point why. Maybe it's the music or the pacing? I think it's the pacing. Please keep making more of these you have some real talent !! I really enjoyed this ,I just didn't get scared really but all of this takes a lot of talent to put together and the idea is great. The one thing that did kinda creep me out was the door closing at the end. Anyways I just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed this and I really hope to see more from you!! Great job

Ok, this wasn't the worst, but far, far from anything good. Too fast into the ghost, her reaction to seeing the woman outside her peephole was delayed and staccato, there needed to be an explanation of how she killed the girl, and the ending made no sense. The whole story needed more buildup and if she was crazy from guilt that needed more build up and explanation as well. Everything just happened way too fast and left you too confused to even be remotely creepy.

Really liked this; I really liked the way the story unfolded. I knew as soon as she saw the girl at the door that she recognized her, so that whole aspect really worked for me, and the journal filled in more. I thought it flowed beautifully. It was creepy, and rather sad as well. Really well done in my opinion.

Camera work was magnificent at the beginning, following her, then shifting to the coffee cup as she drank. Superb. I enjoyed it right up to the end, where i'm 50/50 on the ending. I love the idea, but you can't technically smother yourself.

Well done, it was worthy watching it. However, there are several aspects and issues about apartment 41 which could have been done differently.
For example, first, the camera perspective changes too often and the camera is like shaking a little bit. This makes the scene a little bit unclear and hard to follow.
Second, creating tension and making the viewers excited is what makes horror movies and scenes so special and why people like to watch them. Although it had those moments when something was building up, it was still not exciting enough to make you afraid or feel like "I can't wait what will happen next".
The beginning was a bit too long, but it was quite ok. There, the camera perspective was ok as well until it switched too often.
The viewers want to see most of the apartment to get an impression of the surrounding.
Only the moment when someone was on her door and she saw the mysterious figure was way too fast and took away the tension. Before this happened, she didn't notice anything really suspicious. There weren't signs of someone already being there. Besides the silent atmosphere of the apartment, nothing would have made anyone afraid or giving them the feeling that "something is wrong here".
Coming to the note she wrote down about the apartment, this was way too late. It was simply in a wrong order. That she showed of infront of the door could also happen after she writes down the letter. Elsewhere, this "hello Ellen" and the water turning on by itself should have been put more in the beginning before she sees more of her. Instead of a note, I don't see anything wrong if she simply talked in her mind so that we would hear it.
So, the sequence should have been different, creating more tension and taking less away.
In a moment when the horror is revealed, e.g. when the mysterious, scary woman shows up and one sees her, the scene will usually get more chaotic and scary. The protagonist usually cannot calm down after this event and is in permanent fear. It won't be like: "Hey I saw something creepy outside the door and now, everything is calm. Let me write down how beautiful this apartment is."
No, she would rather be frightened and ask herself what was going on. At least such a reaction would be more believable.
In this story, the protagonist obviously had more background information than the viewer. The story should have let us known that pretty much at the beginning or middle before the paranormal activities take place.
There are several ways one can create tension and make everything more mysterious and unsettling. For this, making usage of lights (e.g. flickering), ringing bells (what was done here), phone rings, especially mirrors, water, things suddenly falling on the ground by their own, glass breaking, blood appearing in certain places etc etc..
The possibilities are almost endless. Things have to be out of order and the protagonist has to ask their own what is going on here.
Cases like 'she looks right through the door's peephole and sees her' are way too predictable.
The end was also quite ok. People are saying that the antagonist should not speak with her. Well, usually the horror figures don't talk much and are simply creepy. However, this is really up to you. Here, it wasn't actually a bad idea since we got to understand more about the background story.
The very end of it with the door was also OK and quite conventional, although it was a little bit confusing. But we can overlook this part. I am fine with the end.
Besides all of the criticism, the apartment had a dark beautiful atmosphere. The protagonist acted very well. It had a background story. Paranormal activities were going on. Even the creepy girl as a horror figure was well chosen. That she appeared and then suddenly disappeared and her voice was also quite good. Creepy women and girls are always a great idea for horror movies.
Usually, if someone saw such a figure, one wouldn't open up the door though. But those are the controversial parts and people have a different opinion on them. People are different and act differently.
Nonetheless, it was worth watching it, even if it could be better by working on those parts I mentioned. There is still enough space for speculations and interpretations which is definitely not bad.
After all, it was three years ago. So, at least one can make an exception of this and see it as quite entertaining.
