Eu sou brasileira e sou também uma grande admiradora da Imperatriz Leopoldina, fico feliz em ver que ela também é admirada em outros países, porque na minha opinião, ela foi a melhor governante feminina que o Brasil já teve.
No way?? I didn’t know that! What I found very interesting is that Pedro’s 2nd wife had Domitila banned from court shortly after her arrival. So their „love“ wasn’t that great for sure. In my opinion it was lust and sexual power she had over him.
@@historyfoxy5278 now you taught me something I didn't know! Hmmm I suppose because his wife was so compliant with him that when she actually stood up for herself, Pedro got enraged and attacked her because she had the audacity to refuse his request 🙄 She seemed like such a sweet woman, poor thing.
She was also vital in the buiding up of the imperial navy and army to defeat the portuguese, she worked as translator for the the first class of brazilian officers and sailors, because she spoke english and in 1822 english in Brazil was nonexistant. To the army, we had a colonial police force, the Portuguese had their best troops in Bahia and on the north, veterans from the napoleon's war,we desperatly neded an experienced cadre of soldiers,so we could built up our army around them, taht's were Dona Leopoldina takes that matter to her and asks her uncle, archduke Karl, who were commander of the habsburgh armies to send men with army expirience to Brazil.10.000 came, from all over the Habsburgh empire they made the spine of the nascent brazilian army. She did so many things in so many areas that i would need a book to teel. She was not only the first woman to rule?govern Brazil, but also the firs person to govern an independant Brazil, she also chose the our national colors green and yellow,Green for the House of Bragança and The Habsburgh yellow!
I think that Pedro's cruelty would have come eventually even without "the other woman". He was your (unfortunately) typical garden variety privileged abusive prat. I find the trend interesting that as with Elisabeth Christine from your previous vid, the people paid these women higher regards than their own husbands did, which speaks volumes about both Maria Leopoldine and Elisabeth Christine as well as their husbands.
I guess I have to disappoint you. Pedro did end the affair when he remarried. Domitilia remarried as well, had 6 children and lived in a nice palais. She did some charity work in her old days and died at the age of 69.
I hope you‘re enjoying yourself there! It seems like Leopoldine is almost forgotten in Austria, however many Brazilians still admire her for all she’s done.
I don't like to be that person but she reminds me of Princess Diana in a way. A young teenager in love with a Prince, so hopeful about her future marriage; beloved by the people but can't seem to be loved her husband who keeps cheating on her and breaking heart. The main difference between these two is that Charles never physically abused Diana.
Now that you say it I can see some similarities as well! Fortunately Leopoldine didn’t have to endure all the Media attention Diana had to deal with…but the physical abuse was indeed something that sets their experiences apart.

Sad how this Lovely lady was treated by her horrible husband 😢
At least the people and her family loved her
Absolutely! And she found joy in motherhood and her role in politics.
@@historyfoxy5278 yes of course, I think we all do
Fun Fact: Despite Domitila being Pedro I's favourite and "most beloved" of his mistresses, he also had a son with her sister 😬

There are somewhere letters from Pedro to Domitila they are called "pure pornografic" and should never go to the public.
@@merryEngland learning about his personality, I'm not surprised at all 👀
Gross 🤣🤣🤣
I was waiting for this one, very interesting!
Keep on making these great videos!
Glad you’re enjoying them!
our beloved founding mother!

I believe so too, he was infamous for his temper early on.
You should make a video on Napoleon’s second wife.
Marie Louise was an interesting person, I‘ll keep her in mind.
So what happened to that Domitila monster???? Don´t tell me she led a happy life somewhere on the outskirts...
I guess I have to disappoint you. Pedro did end the affair when he remarried. Domitilia remarried as well, had 6 children and lived in a nice palais. She did some charity work in her old days and died at the age of 69.
in Vienna now and saw the Austrian Brazilian connection at the museum. I never knew.

So true! She had so much potential and seemed to be such a kind person.
@@historyfoxy5278 Definitely! No wonder Pedro had trouble finding a second wife.

Diana was no saint. she also cheated. Also, Charles only resumed his affair after Dians cheated
An interesting report on a fascinating subject. You need to work on your delivery, which is a little flat. Thank you.
awesome!

Pedro was styled Duke of Braganza, not crown prince
He was not born as a crown prince, but when his older brother passed away he became the crown prince.
