'Prelude' from J.S.Bach's Cello Suite No.1
Arranged and performed by Daren Banarsë (Daren Banarse)
This wooden melodica is a homemade instrument, similar to the hohner melodica, yamaha pianica or hammond 44hp, but with a fully wooden (ebony) case. The melodica is considered an unusual musical instrument for playing classical music, and an odd instrument for Bach. But I hope this video shows that even the strangest musical instrument when played with sensitivity, and with circular breathing, can do justice to the Bach cello Suite No. 1!
#melodica #bach #homemadeinstruments
What’s amazing is that he plays it using only black keys.
This got me cackling!!
I see what you did there 😂
😂
I didn't know you could play Bach just using the F# pentatonic scale!
Lmao
This is actually the melodica solo that inspired me to play melodica
That's amazing to hear, thanks!
Same
I enjoyed your recording very much. Not easy to successfully perform classical music on melodica--sound, response of instrument, breath control, interpretation--I think you have shown it can be done.
Thanks Frances :-)
That was totally beautiful. Kimo Lobo here...the guy who makes the MIDI Melodicas....just found your channel....GREAT PLAYING!!!!!
Thanks so much Kimo, I've been a fan of yours for years :-)
This is such a delightful interaction that I’ve been blessed to witness
Hi Kimolo...are you still making midi melodicas? Im interested. Have instagram?
I didn't even realize I had watched this before, until I noticed that the last comment was mine. This made tears well up in my eyes. Carry on!
Aww thanks so much. I’ll definitely do more!
I tried breathing circularly on the melodia a bit ago, intuiting that it should be possible, but I couldn't pull it off. Not as much back pressure as the honking big didgeridoo I'm used to playing when I utilize that technique. Interesting. In any case, you played that beautifully. I love the first movement of the first cello suite, and you did it far, far better than I ever have on any instrument.
Good lord ..
This is beyond incredible.
Spxly the parts where you bend the soft and loud volume notes so brilliantly .
I am blown away by both ur skill and this super fab instrument .
Standing ovation
Wow, thanks for the compliments!
I'm just amazed by how precise your fingers are on the keyboard, specially when reaching those big intervals. That's only possible with lots of practice. Of course this is expected from all pro instrumentalists, but it's very unusual to find a pro melodica player like you. Very impressive. Best of luck!
Thanks! I put in lots of practice :-)
@@MelodicaWorld And beautiful rendition by the way! It inspired me to start practicing Bach's violin partita n. 3 in E major. The range fits the melodica perfectly.

Davvero bravo, grazie Daren! J.B. ne sarà contento!
I think he might be upset that I added some extra notes at the end :-)
Wow, you are such a great player. Greetings from Argentina!

Amazing!
Thank you Nathan!
Хорошая техника распределения дыхания. 👍👍👍
Muy chingon!!!! Saludos
Wow!
oh, i really need to learn that circular breathing technique! i remember when i was 13, a music teacher was playing the sax, and he did the same technique! he told us the name, and then he just played for a while, without stoping to take a breath ahahaha i can see that this is quite useful, but personally, i like to take breaths while in silences, i dont know why, but i think it kinda makes the performance more emotional ahahah at least to my eyes, but this is, hands down a technique that is really helpful (gotta do some research also, since the prof told us that there are certain wind instruments, like the recorder, where you cant do the same thing) thanks a lot, and i need to tell you that i really admire how you know by heart the keys in the melodica hahaaha i really need to watch my fingers and the keys if i wanna play without making mistakes (or less mistakes ahahaha) Greetings from Mexico my "compadre"🥰
I agree, taking breaths can help with musicality, as you can play more like a singer. I learned to circular breath because I wanted to sound more like a concertina when playing Irish music
@@MelodicaWorldI play the concertina - I'm Irish and this sounds alot nicer than the concertina!
Do you have a video on circular breathing?
@@user-om8mz3ey6k I've never made a video on circular breathing because there's already a lot out there on youtube which you can use for the melodica. It's actually very simple, but takes 10 minutes of practice every day for a long time to become natural
Wonderful
Awe inspiring! Takes the melodica from being a toy to being a true instrument....in your hands. Still a toy in mine.
Thanks Randy :-)
wow!
Perfect circular breathing.
Excelent!
Wow that was super impressive 😃🎼🎹
Thank you very much!
Great circular breathing

It's great I hope you make a tutorial how to play this!!!
I don't know that Bruce banner plays melodica

"that's my secret cap, I always play"
I want to see more of your work. Yet there has been any update more than a year ago.
There’s more coming!
Очень круто❤❤❤
Great Concert! Bravo
How nice! Can you please do a tutorial on how to do circular breathing
Yes, I'm thinking about that!
I am trying to learn it on my own but just started. A tutorial would be incredible!
Another vote for a tutorial!
Please teach us how to.do this pleasee
Beautiful!
Is this one of your handmade melodicas?
Amazing colour!
Thanks! Yes, this is ebony wood
Are you still making videos? Please! I would like to learn more.
Hi Carrie, yes still making videos. I’m making a new instrument at the moment, and it’s taking a long time, it will be the next video. Thanks for watching:-)
Do you mind recording and putting them on spotify?
Your playing sounds absolutely amazing?
Thanks Kevin :-)I don't have a spotify account!
@@MelodicaWorld Let it be. I'll watch you playing here in UA-cam instead. :) :D
Do you have a circular breating lesson? Your phrasing is amazing.
I don’t, but there’s plenty on UA-cam where I learned
Can you please do a tutorial on circular breathing in melodica? I've been trying hard to find one. Would be really appreciated.
Its on the 'to do' video list! :-)
@@MelodicaWorld oh ok thanks
@@MelodicaWorld Please please, a tutorial video about circular breathing on the melodica please.
Ebony, nice instrument 🎶❤️
I'm really happy with this one :-)

@@Nour01 ok!
great! cool!! who is the thumb towards?
Lovely sound. Which model melodica is that?
Thanks, it's one I made from ebony wood
may you upload a tutorial for this one?
does the body influence the resonance of the instruments? I love the tone of the instruments
Hi Albeto. Do you mean the body of the instrument, or the player's body? Both influence the resonance, but more so the player's body. The more relaxed, the more the vibrations of the instrument are able to resonant within
@@MelodicaWorld cool. I meant the body of the instrument but good to know anyway =) That melodica looks incredible in total black! I have also watched your video on the 3d printed one and that one is very beautiful too!
Very spicy
Daren, I believe. I LOVE the sound of your melodica! Are there ones like it for sale?
Hi, thanks! There's none of these for sale - I made this one myself. I used the reeds from a Yamaha P37D, so the sound is very similar. Just doesn't look as nice :-)
@@MelodicaWorld Thank you for replying, and I absolutely love the look! :D
@@MelodicaWorld You must, must start making and selling these. The world of music needs a wooden melodica of this quality.
@Braillynn ! I'm making an in depth video about melodica making right now!
@@UkuleleSioni I don't know about selling them, but I've made a much better model than this now, I'm currently editing the film :-)

Very good are wooden melodica really better, what is your? Thanks
I think they do sound a bit better. Mine is made with ebony wood
Are you reading the sheet music for cello? I’d like to learn this piece on my melodica. Such a beautiful song.
Yeah its a lovely bit of music. I transposed it so it would fit the range of my melodica. I was in G major, I play it in D. Here's the notes: ua-cam.com/video/ogbNqfvsyM8/v-deo.html
The sound is amazing, where I can buy this one, which brand is it? ❤
Glad you like it! I made this one with ebony wood, but the reeds are from a Yamaha P37D, which has a similar sound
Hello, beautiful video, what is the used model of the melodica?
Thank you Gabriel, this is one I made with sound similar to the Yamaha P37D
Wonderful!!! what is the brand of that melodica? ... Thank you.
It’s homemade! Ebony wood with reeds from a Yamaha
Could you teach us how to circle breath on a melodica? 😸
It's the same basic technique on all instruments! Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/qcyY0tsGm6A/v-deo.html
Cifra??
Fantastic playing. Watch 100 songs in channel Melodica Mallik.
One question: Is there any particular advantage in playing it in the key of D, concerning fingering, compared to the key of C, which would also be a valid choice I think? I wouldn't like to put practice time into it, just to reveal that it would have been easier using the other key. In the key of C, the piece would even fit the range of a 32 key melodica. (The original key of G does not fit the range of a melodica.)
I chose the key of D because I like playing in it -I find it tends to fit the shape of the hand well, and loads of Irish tunes I play are in D. Also it’s closely related to G. But no reason at all not to play it in C!
👏🇦🇹
Tutorial pls
What make please is this, where to buy it and the price
It’s homemade with ebony wood. It uses Yamaha reeds, so sounds similar to the pianica P37d
Does it also have wooden keys? Or only the case?
Wooden keytops too :-)
How would you do circular brewing on a melodica? Do you need a special need of mouthpiece? Because I’ve tried doing it with the long tubular mouthpieces and it’s not been working out...
You can do it with the hose, but I find it difficult, because I'm also trying to keep the hose in my mouth. So I prefer to use the little black plastic mouthpiece that comes with the melodica
@@MelodicaWorld
Fair play, thanks 👍
What is the entire register of this instrument? Is there a bass melodica it?
This is 37 key F to F. This instrument has reeds from the Yamaha P37D. There is a bass melodica - Hammond Melodion bass
@@MelodicaWorld right. So I can presume that your melodica has an alto range, as the alto female voice (F3 to F5). Thus the bass melodica is an octave lower than the alto one. Having both bass and alto melodicas we can have almost the four-part vocal range, from bass to descant blending all registers. Nice.
@@millennial8441 it's F3 to F6 (37 keys, not 25).
How do I purchase it
The closest sound to this melodica you can buy is a Yamaha p37d
Hi. Can you tell mi what melodica are you ussing? Thank you
It’s a wooden melodica with ebony wood, and Yamaha reeds, so similar to a Yamaha melodica
ThankYou. Where did you buy it?
I have an ordonary yamaha and i dont like the pitch.
I need a profetional instrument.
My yamaha got out of tune. I tried to tune it but it is still bad.
Looking for solutions.
Than you.
@@victoriaaftalion5023 I made it, but it still needs tuning from time to time like a normal Yamaha does
@@MelodicaWorld awsome! Congrats!

is the blowing like a sax or much easier? trying sax makes my lips looking like botoxed fillers
Lol, much much easier than a sax, you just blow :-)
