    Just moved up from the TZ60 (30x zoom) to the TZ100. Just getting used to the manual shutter speed settings as we're off to catch the Northern Lights in Iceland this week. What a strange way of getting to a long exposure having to turn on the sounds to enable a manual shutter. I'm going to need some strip for the front. I'm keeping the TZ60 for rough field use, it's a very versatile camera but I'm expecting the TZ100 to give me a lot sharper set of images. Thanks for your video Todd, very interesting.

    It looks like a nice compact camera and the street photography section had some nice colour to it.

      Thanks Shane! Yes, it is and the color is better than I expected. I think the color is better than the GX85 I started MFT with.

    Just bought a used one yesterday: Image quality seems actualy very correct, as expected. I already own a lot of mft tools covering all my needs in photography, but was looking for this kind of Point&Shoot pocketable cam with such a zoom range... The TZ200 would be even better in the future if I find a cheap one, but i'm still very happy with this 10x zoom.
    I hope a wp version with a flip screen and micro/earphone plugs will exist in a near future : it would be the perfect Vlog cam for traveling !

      Good to hear! As long as you know the limitations of the lens, it’s easy enough to work around them. And honestly, I’ve found that for street photos the corner softness wide open really doesn’t matter.

    Hi Todd, thanks for your videos about this marvellous little camera. I just bought one and I'm struggling to get closeup shots with it. Any recommendation you could share how I could get better closeups? Thank you and greetings from Germany.

      The problem with cameras like these is they focus closest at the wide end of the zoom range. One thing to make sure is that you have it set to AF macro. Press the button to the left of the Menu/Set button and select AF Macro. This setting allows close focusing but also keeps infinity focus. I leave it set to this all the time. It's possible it could slow down normal focus, but I haven't had an issue with it.
      Close focusing at the telephoto end of the zoom range isn't very good and there's no way to attach an accessory close up lens.
      Hope this helps!

    Excellent video and I do have this camera. I am mainly interested in urban and street photography. Do you have any more specific camera settings? Thank you.

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! One thing I can add is if you're shooting street, you may want to either shoot in manual with shutter speed at 1/125 or set that as the minimum for the auto modes.

    I use mostly for concert photography (with mixed results) . Having to increase ISO seems to pixilate things (and probably too much digital zoom, at times) .
    any advice on settings/ modes/ tweaks to improve results at concerts with this camera?

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  11 місяців тому

      To be honest, concerts are not the strong suit for this camera. But, I wouldn’t use digital zoom. You’re probably better off shooting at maximum optical zoom and then cropping.

    I’ve had that camera since it came out, and was hoping your pictures would be sharper but I do find them soft. It would have been more apparent if you had another camera to compare with. Besides that, I wish for a faster and better focus, and focus tracking.

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  10 місяців тому

      And yet, the images from this camera never fail Alamy quality control for softness and they look at high res images at 100%. If you're looking for faster and better focus with decent tracking, a point and shoot probably isn't the way to go, except maybe the latest Sony RX100s, which have phase detect autofocus.

    What grip tape did you use on your camera? This camera is slippery for me and the tape is a fantastic idea👍

    I a new user of the Panasonic tz100 and i want to ask some questions.
    What max iso do you use?
    What focus mode works better??
    And if i can see in the display live the exposure when i change the settings.???
    Thanks a lot

      I've found ISOs up to 800 are fine and up to 1600 work if you use a noise reduction program like Topaz Photo AI. I usually keep the AF on AFS and AF Macro which will focus the full range down to macro. It doesn't seem to lose much speed set this way. I also usually keep it set to Face Detect. If you press the Display button, it cycles through different settings with each press. I have it set to show aperture, shutter speed and ISO as well as the level indicator.

    I've had a zs100 for a few years now, I use it mostly for time lapse but I really like the post-focus feature for people-watching/urban/street photography. I want to use it for Astro if anyone has suggestions for that application. I have a 4.5 inch Newtonian and some other homemade telescopes.

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  Рік тому

      I would think you'd need a faster lens, but I don't do much astro, so maybe somebody can chime in who does.

    Hi, just got one of these 2 days ago. Initial playing about looks like my old Canon Powershot G15 is performing better in low light without flash, but otherwise ok. Do you know if bigger capacity SDXC cards (bigger than 128gb) will work. I’ve ordered a 512gb card and then checked the instructions after 😢.

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  Рік тому +1

      The G15 has a faster lens but a smaller sensor. However, it's a good sensor so it's possible you might get better low light results with it. Maximum card size on the ZS100 is 128GB.

    Thanks for the review! How is this camera for nature photography (mostly static and landscape)?

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  5 місяців тому

      Your'e welcome! It's okay, but not as good as something with a larger sensor. And you may have to stop down to f5.6 or so to get things sharp across the frame. I did with mine.

    Hi , I found this useful. Thanks.
    I have bought the Tz 70 however because it was in my price range. Do you know how that one compares to the 100?

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  Рік тому

      With the TZ70 you’re giving up image sensor size and trading for zoom range. It’s a decent little camera but the sensor is about 25% the area of the one inch sensor in the ZS/TX100 and has the same number of pixels. So it’s not going to give image quality anywhere near the ZS100, especially in low light. Still, it may be good enough depending on whether you print or just post photos online.

    Thank you. Can you recommend me compact camera, that is light and small, to fit my pocket, to take picture everyday instead my phone?

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  7 місяців тому

      First, I don't recommend putting a compact camera in a pocket. Pockets are dirty and most compacts aren't well sealed against dust. But if you really really want to put it in a pocket, I'd check out the OM System TG7. It's one of the few that is sealed. explore.omsystem.com/us/en/tg-7

    • @ToddBannor
      @ToddBannor  Рік тому

      The lens is better on the LX, but of course it lacks reach. Ergonomically, the LX is better. I find them complimentary though and I can see traveling with just these two cameras. I'll do a video on this. It's a little crazy right now as we've just listed the house.

Third finger on the front ridge, thumb on the right strap eye, second finger on the photo button. Happy snapping chums.
