I love how his doing this review with his adorable baby girl. Great review!
A few years back I was looking for a travel camera and found TCSTV which produced enjoyable, informative, and (for me) understandable reviews. Using your videos to develop my shortlist I eventually bought the model you reviewed here (TZ100 here in the UK). I agree with your comments about gripping the camera, and I find that I use both hands to hold it - mainly because I'm short sighted and with my glasses I don't get on with the view finder at all so I compose my shots via the back screen.
I look at a lot of reviews. A lot. Your reviews are by far the best and most informative. Thanks for taking the time to do this. 😀
I love that you had your daughter with you through the video.
dude youve got the best youtube ive come across so far really nice to listen to
Wow what a beautiful area. I'm going to have to head up there soon!
That was a fantastic review that has really helped me, thanks. (P.S Your daughter is adorable)
4:13 "I wish we had the rubber" and you are holding a baby :|. I am going to hell for this.
+SuperDashRendar
That's too bad, we would have had great company there ;)
Great review, but I wish you guys tested the low light compared to the ZS60
Great video, your images are fantastic, sold me on this camera. Excited about it.
I like this camera 📷. It really has very crisp photos and I can see the details so clearly 👌.
Thanks for the video! Yours was the best out of the handful of videos i browsed through. Also, your video was the only one that I actually watched the whole way through lol.
Chris congratulations you being a dad awesome video thank you for sharing
I very much enjoyed watching this movie. You are a great dad and you helped me a lot in making a decision buying a camera. Good job! Thanks from Belgium.
Hi from bribie island Australia. Love your reviews as always. Loved the included baby ,what a patient little soul. Really added something. Keep em coming.
Chris and Jordan's daughter is adorable! She looks so calm and quiet, I wonder if she kept that way for most of the time.
+theSUBVERSIVE All joking aside Jordan and I do have a baby together and it's called TCSTV and it is very adorable. As for MY baby Madelyn, she is actually a really sweet, and quiet kid, except right now as I type this and she should be napping.
Chris@TCSTV
+chris hahahahaha... I know she is your daughter! Hehe...
Have Jordan considered reviewing the JVC LS300? After the last FW update, I feel like it has been gaining some attention and it seems to have a nice DR and colours, it's also inusitated the fact that is uses a S35 sensor AND Micro4/3 mount, plus it sits below the FS5. A lot of 3rd party's lenses cover S35 and Micro4/3 mount seems capable of dealing with S35 image circle, this is a really interesring camera.
The main reason I didn't buy the ZS100 was the lack of front and rear grip. This camera is pretty smooth and slippery so it was a deal breaker for me. I really don't understand what Panasonic was thinking. The same applies to the front of the Sony RX100. I know they are going for clean sleek looks but I don't think a grip is going to ruin that. They are not sexy cameras to begin with so a grip can't ruin them. Anyways, just my 2 cents. Good review guys.
+Yippie I agree with you. I never thought the grip would be an important factor until I hold one at camera store.
Yippie .... I use a small piece of velcro, hook side. Front of both my rx 100's. Cut curved around lens.
Man I remember those days. Carriers, onesies and $10,000 on diapers! They get so heavy after walking for a while. Vlogging whilst Daddying, man you are a barbarian! Just bought me one of these cameras off eBay last night. Out of all the equipment I own it is truly going to be a "first". Love my bigger DSLRs but this little booger is truly a perfect go-everywhere camera!
Awe....baby! 1000 extra video points.
You can always put skateboard tape on metal body for better grip.
I was thinking of doing something like that if I end up buying. Has someone tried it and can give feedback?
I thought about getting the ZS100 to compliment my DSLR, but decided on the RX100 III. No 4K or long zoom but that faster lens makes all the difference. Another great review!
Such an adorable baby! She looks like she's thinking, What the heck is Dad talking about? Oh, and the review is very good.
zs100 sounds terrific, but in my line of work I can easily see dropping it in a lake while trying to take a photo of a fish while holding a fly rod in the other hand. Think I will wait and see what comes out of Panasonic this winter...
Your baby is such a trooper.
Thanks for review
Totally confused by naming: here in Germany it's the TZ101 -- the Panasonic (German) site gives no results for the TZ100.
Great review, was really looking forward to this review of the panny. That being said on the videographer end of things, even given the canon g3x added girth which one you get Jordan or Chris? No microphone input on tz100 is a deal breaker for me. What a adorable baby. 😊
Easy fix for the grips, just take some grip tape for a skateboard and slap it on there. Crude but effective!
I can't imagine how hard it must have been to shoot this video while wearing a baby! Nicely done!
I enjoy your camera analysis very much. One question I have now that four years have passed since the intro of this camera (DMC-ZS-100) have you had many complaints about dust getting on the sensor and Panasonic not providing warranty service in that regards?
Chris is cute but he was seriously overshadowed by the baby =) lovely video guys, the baby jiggling to sleep was sweet too!
An excellent review.. very well done..and your little girl seemed to enjoy it too..!../.. I have the TZ-100 (UK) and am getting very good results .. I agree with the rubber grips issue but I always use a 'pistol grip'- tripod' - I also have Sony apsc and full frame .. but the 'pocketable' TZ does everything so well .. that this is the camera that is getting most use...Cheers from Dj... UK
Big TCS fan. Bought the D750 and A6000 with your advice. Keep up the good work!
Hi, Very Very good review. Thanks a lot!!! I have Just one question: do you think this is better than the Canon G7 X Mark II?
Luckily he's got his mother's looks..!!
And your shots somehow got better with the baby on tow.
Congrats to you and her beautiful mom, and many happy years to you (both three) Until adolescence hits.
**Thanks for uploading 1080.
Of course we'll be seeing more of those blue eyes in the future, uh?
I think with a piece of self-adhesive rubber at the thumb, the grip should be perfekt.
What's going on at 8:14 / 8:15 ? Framedrop?
At 12:50 you can see the AF pumping between Jordan and the background. Is there no face detection?
Will you do a test of the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 4-6.3 100-400 mm Asph. Power OIS mFT?
😁✌ I just bought TZ100 today. Can't wait to try it
How chill is that baby? My daughter would have never allowed this!
Just discovered your channel and finding the material really useful. Are you able to tell me what microphone you are using here. The sound quality is crystal clear. Thx.
Great review. I'm torn between this as a travel camera for my wife, and the RX100 V as a C camera for my FS5. The Lumix has a range of features that will likely serve better as a travel camera. Any thoughts on how these two cameras compare?
BTW, I really enjoy your reviews. You two guys do a great job on camera, especially if you are working without a teleprompter. Great delivery, and excellent information. Thanks guys!
98% of the comments are about the baby....LOL. Great camera, baby and review. I purchased one for my UK/Paris Holiday and it did not let me down. It beat taking my Canon 1DX with 3 lenses, far too much to handle and keep safe. The TZ100, lived in my jacket pocket and daily got charged via a portable powerbank when on the move. No need for extra kit, just one camera with everything I needed.
I still shoot with this camera and think the images are good. But I wonder how it compares with other high quality portable cameras in 2023? P.S. I love that little cutie you're carrying around. Congrats!
You are a great photographer. Amazing videos.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Do you have any experience concerning the image stabilization on 4k video mode? I read that the camera doesn't use the 5-axis OIS, but a simple OIS due to techical limitations. What's the downside of this, how noticeable is the OIS limitation in 4k mode? Thanks!
l bought this little cam specifically for concert photography. It is small, not flashy, and I took it to Guns N Roses in Vegas. It did ok, but obviously nowhere close to m43 results I had had before in same time of event. But they will always let you in with it. As for video, Jordan did not mention it but I read somewhere that 5 Axis Image Stabilization only works for 1080P mode, not in 4K mode, so the 1080p handheld image would be more stable. Good thing about 4K video is that your zoom gets extended to 370mm at tele end so it was of a benefit to me at the concert.
Great review, could you please tell me what filter are you using to get those amazing result with slow shutter speed without overexposing?
i was fascinated more by your baby than by the camera :) so cute and so quiet.
ADORABLE! and thanks for the helpful review!!
true! you respond really quick... had a question once via twitter. keep it up!
Nice review. What circular polarizing filter were you using? Were you holding the filter? Is there anyway a filter will attach to the lens of this camera?
What's that you're holding in front of the lens? Ps. Your baby's so cute
Nice video, which one do you think is better zs100 or the fz1000 since both have very similar specs especially or filming videos for UA-cam and wedding parties!?
Lovely pics and footage.
Great video :) Your baby is so chilled out. I'm having a hard time deciding what camera to get. I want one that takes good low light pictures, so does that have to be a 1 inch sensor? Will the TZ60 be good for it? I'd also like to have Wifi and geotagging on it, since it will be for travel. Also the slow motion was boss.
I just purchased this camera and chose it over the LX10 really because of the zoom. I assume I can zoom to a good portrait focal length which some experts have said is in the 90 to 100 mm range (where the LX10 stops at 70). Cant wait to try the burst modes. This will be my first camera other than an iphone in years.
Do you know wich is better, the ZS100/TZ100 or the LX10/LX15 for the same plan of family trip
will the zoom work while recording videos ?
She is so calm, so cool
Great review Chris. The landscape also very nice and the baby almost as beautiful as her father. I may buy this camera unless the Sony rx 100 v blows me away. Cheers!
I have now watched your reviews of the G7X Mk2, TZ100 and LX100. Still unsure as to which is best all rounder. Which would you recommend if you had to pick one? Tough question, but I think you guys can handle it.
If you are talking about an all rounder of a travel camera, TZ100 because of its zoom range with rich set of features (but no GPS).
a little unrelated, but what are your thoughts on the upcoming Nikon DL 24-85? The zs100 looks nice, but the extra zoom isn't necessary for me. I'm looking for a compact that I can take rock climbing, hiking, and camping. Maybe the G7x? I'm kind of lost. Love your videos!
do you recommend the LX100 or the ZS100? or even the ZS200? btw love your videos
I just bought the ZS100 today. The grip needs a lot of improvement so tomorrow I will go to B&H and buy one of the grips in the Flipbac series. I think they sell for $9.99.
Jordan, you pulled some fantastic images out of that "bad light" with the FS5! Also, the stills Chris took with the ZS100 looked excellent.
But what was going on with the image quality of your face at around 11:39 for example? To me it looks like insufficient data rate or codec to handle any significant motion. Do you agree? The only other possible explanation for me was that your face was just not in focus, but it didn't really look like that to me...
Will you be doing a GX80 review in the near future? I'm interessted to see what Jordan thinks about the stabilized 4K video.
+Ørjan Laxaa We'll probably see a test sample in late May. Stay tuned!
Jordan @ TCSTV
I am interested in GX 80 too. That's the camera i am looking into currently. I need something for both great photo and video. And it has to be on compact side, suitable for traveling. Really have a hard time making up my mind. #help
You are an awesome father with a beautiful daughter 🙃 Oh yes...great video, keep up the great work
lol until you had a close up I didn't realise its a real baba hahaha super cute babooshka great video guys as always
many thanks
Chico Bongalar
at 9:54 where you compare the noise in high iso, the picture from the zs60 on the left looks quite a bit softer than the zs100 but not because it´s noisier, but because it is not in focus properly. when you look at the net on the background on the shoe it actually is in focus.
thought it might be important.
Love your reviews...keep up the awesome work
hi thanks very much and i would like to know how long we can shoot in 4k video
Hi Jordan! another great video. When you reviewed the video aspects of the ZS100, I would have loved to have seen an annotation link to "Microphone Wind Noise & Steps to Prevent/Remove." For example, Chris, in one scene, was cupping his hand over the lav mic to prevent wind noise. You can dead kitten a lav mic or dead cat / blimp / dead wombat a shotgun mic; I'm sure viewers would love to see tricks for built-in mics.
perhaps a click link to an FS5 review too, when the intro card says, "filmed on the FS5." I love the FS5; great autofocus, slow motion & light weight, but it's not for everyone; eg, many cinematographers prefer heavier, more stationary cameras, with more film features.
thanks!
Great review, as usual - thanks. Question, what video camera and wireless mic system do you typically use to film your reviews? Video quality is always really impressive as is the sound quality. Would also be interesting to know if you record internally to a given codec or externally to Pro-Res, Avid DNX or similar. Thanks . . .
What a beautiful kid/lens cushion.
new ZS100/TZ100 will be deeply root into this baby,s brain and mind.
cool baby brah!
all jokes aside, how does it compare with sonys RX100 line?
cheers
Thank you a lot!!! I was using a G7X mk1 but I was looking for a longer zoom range. For the compromise of lowlight quality i know i will use my fullframe with my lovely lens 20, 35 and 50mm. I was just thinking on zs100 against zs60 and finally i decided for the smaller sensor at this time! (and the FZ300 also looks good for no serious commitment but i prefer the smaller body).
PS For 1" sensor my prefered one was Nikon DL 18-50, i love wide angle and image stabilization, but it seems wil be on sale only in 2017. Then i saw the Sony X3000 and AS300 action cams with optical stabilization and it looks great for me.
Thanks. I've been very curious about this camera. What a beautiful location! and cute baby! How does it compare to the Sony RX100s? That's the real competition they're gunning for, right?
Jordan, have you tried the touch to focus in 4k video on this camera? It appears that they changed the contrast detect algorithm to not pull focus back after achieving focus. Can you please confirm? This is big news if Panasonic found a way to do this!
Why don't these reviews ever include a non-compressed download so I can actually see what the images look like...?
Great location for this shoot!
Nice video. Can you edit the LUMIX ZS100 4k footage on the iPad/Lumafusion?
Great review as always, will you get you hands on the Sony RX10 iii soon you think?
Thx for nice review. Maybe go into how to use a smartphone as control instead of annoying small EVF.
I really liked Panasonic LF1 really light and small .. was hoping the will have LF2 .. just wondering can u tell us how's this comparing the LF1 please!?
excellent video and information - many thanks ...
Good evening!
I'm French (sorry in advance for my english) and I confess not to have understood everything in your video, my oral comprehension being not very glorious ^^' I would like to ask you your opinion. Indeed, I can not make my choice between several cameras, and I don't want to make mistake because it's my first personal camera (I used several times the canon 1100D of my father) and I would like to keep it quite a while. I'm not a specialist in photography, and I have consulted dozens of opinions, tests ... I finally hesitate between the TZ100, the TZ80 (ZS60 I think for you), the sony HX90V or the RX100 if its image quality allows a cropping equivalent to the zoom of the TZ100, or its digital zoom which is, according to some opinions, very good.
I wonder if, being not an expert, the difference between the TZ100 / RX100 and the others is so great, for the higher price and the lower zoom, or if this is only noticeable by watching with a professional eye. For example, it may be weird but I prefer photos where we can see the natural sky, with its blue and its clouds, and not a sparkling white, by a lack of detail.
I hope you will take the time to read, and thank you very much in advance if you read, and reply :)
Blue eyes! So cute!
This camera's still made, but it's under $400 USD, on sale, which makes it a no brainer for my wife for Christmas.
8:27 looks amazing. What camera did you shoot this video with?
Can this camera record video and be powered by USB charger at the same time and not draining the battery?
Amazing video! But how do you get the shutter to open to 10 seconds???? I have the same model but can only get it open for one
Nice video! Wich do you think is the best all rounder camera? The ZS100 ot the LX10? Thanks!
Hi thanks for the video. I was wondering how the camera is in low light situations like at night where the moon or a street lamp is a source of light, concert/live show, thicker forest, restaurant/bar, or cave? I want something compact (pocket size), can zoom at least 10x, and can do both video and pictures. I was thinking of getting the tz100 or the zs20. Is there another one I should consider. I am a casual shooter. I like taking pics of nature, landscapes, moon etc. Thanks.
Thanks for the great review, as always!
I'm curious about the timelapse, since the Canon G5X can only do astrophotography time lapses. Can you zoom in when doing time lapse on this Panasonic?
Great video guys.
I was trying to take a photo today of a stream in cloudy conditions. ISO 125, F8, 1m shutter. Photo was completity blown out and over exposed. Just all white really. Is there something I am doing wrong here. How were you able to have shutter speed at 10 and get that image? Is there a setting I am missing in camera? All input appreciated.
Your daughter is adorable lol. :P
How would this compare to the Sony a5100 in terms of sharpness and image quality ? I can only find sample pictures of people for the a5100.
How is your incredibly adorable baby girl so quiet? What an angel.
+Danny B. Prop baby? Gotta get them views!
+SuperDashRendar prop baby? More like PRO BABY! She can act, she can dance, what can't she do?
Yeah
