- LAS VEGAS, Nev., Oct. 9 (KNN) - The Tropicana Las Vegas was celebrated with a grand finale that included fireworks before the 67-year-old resort was taken to the ground in controlled demolition early Wednesday morning. The building has been deserted since it closed this past April.
The demolition will pave the way for constructing the A’s state-of-the-art ballpark and a world-class destination created in partnership with Bally’s Corporation, a name synonymous with Vegas hospitality and gaming.
The Tropicana was the last remaining casino of its era on the Las Vegas Strip. Fireworks by Grucci created a spectacular 555 drone and fireworks display for the event. Controlled Demolition, Inc., leaders in large-scale implosions, oversaw the demolition of both 22-story towers totaling 917,400 square feet.
The structural steel-framed Paradise Tower featured 220 cut-point locations loaded with 490 pounds of explosives, while the reinforced concrete-framed Club Tower was slated to have 1,130 boreholes filled with 1,700 pounds of explosives.
At the end of the fireworks and drone presentation, 22,000 lineal feet of detonating cord initiated the implosion in both towers. The demolition sequence started with the Paradise Tower, and both structures collapsed within seconds after the implosion button was pressed.
“The Tropicana Las Vegas was one of the original pioneers of the Strip, setting the stage for the vibrant, larger-than-life entertainment destination we know and love today,” said Bally’s Corporation Chairman Soo Kim. “It’s fitting that this iconic site now represents the future of Las Vegas as we look forward to welcoming Major League Baseball, the Athletics, and an exciting new entertainment complex. This moment in Las Vegas history represents more than just the next chapter-it’s the evolution of the Strip, where legend meets innovation to create something truly unforgettable.”
A’s owner, John Fisher, said, “The demolition of the Tropicana is an important milestone in the process of bringing A’s baseball to the world-renowned Las Vegas Strip and the community of Southern Nevada. We hope that, in time, this site will become a place of unforgettable experiences for fans of the game. We extend our gratitude to Bally’s and GLPI for their partnership as we embark on this project together.” | Click Show More below for additional information.

Idk why this made me cry. That was the most beautiful demolition I've ever seen ❤
I agree. Because it respects the history of what the institution was for the city. It's nice to pay respects when you bury something.
@@francescaa8331 perfect explanation 🙏❤️
🏳️🌈
Made me cry too and I never step foot in that place living in Las Vegas, I could care less about that place but I cried 😬
@@thedailydiego6368 I guess we're empaths 😊😭
Wild that they did a better show than any New Year’s I been too 😂😂
No one says, "goodbye," like Vegas.
Well for me that was the case until I went to Magic Kingdom for NYE, that was insane lol
Absolutely insane! That was better than any fireworks show I’ve ever seen. Those drones are next level. The drones shoot off fireworks too!? Amazing
Absolutely the best shot/photography I've seen of this event. Well done, great angle
Rest in peace, Tropicana. We stayed there on our honeymoon, late May, 2011.
Really that's a whole lotta year
Yes, homeymoon for us too 1978!!!!! Have an ashtray from there!!
@@pamavery9352 so what's wrong with Tropicana
Did you have any pizza from their asbestos brick lined pizza oven?
@@TheLawCoyoteTLC Actually, we never ate at the Tropicana because we had the 24 hour buffet pass deal. When we weren't doing that, Hooters had this great diner called "The Blooming Onion" or something similar. Tropicana was also within walking distance to gas stations and drug stores, so we were never stuck paying outrageous prices for coffee or bottled water. The Tropicana was strictly the room and the relaxing outdoor pools. We went up and down the strip, saw shows and made the most out of our two week honeymoon. It was unseasonably cool that year, and not one drop of rain. We could easily avoid eating at the Tropicana because of all the other activity in that area made up for the lack of affordable opinions in the hotel and casino itself.
The fireworks 🎆, the drone show , the great job that GGG demolitions and miller environmental demonstrated with the demo of the Tropicana 😮. Absolute wonderful stuff, great job.
Very good photography of the event. Also I'm glad they did it that way. It was a big part of old Vegas history. Nice to give it a good send-off.
Those drones are some next level stuff!
I wouldn't mind having that fireworks budget😁 THAT is how you send off an icon!😍🤩 Made every other Vegas implosion I've seen look like sparklers and crackle balls🤣
What a way to go! Spectacular show but sad it's gone.
The video of the Tropicana's implosion was absolutely spectacular! The Fireworks exceeded expectations-Truly amazing. Thank you for sharing this: I live in Vegas but couldn't attend due to other commitments, so I'm really grateful for getting to experience it through your footage.
To me this is very sad. There's a lot of history in these old casino's and they're erasing it. Those old casino's is what made Las Vegas ....Vegas!
there's no money in memories
It might be a historic hotel but the reality is the owners would still have to pay for that prime property, and most guests would rather stay at a newer hotel with far more modern amenities for the same price. Those old hotel rooms are old, small and in some cases, stinky. Yet the rooms would be the same price as a newer hotel because of the cost of that spot on the strip. So it's not profitable for the owners to hang on to that history.
Agreed.
Just left Vegas last week..Something very sad about seeing these older hotels go 😌
New hotels are so cold and impersonal.
@@jlynettNot sure how long it will last

That car alarm sounds like a slot machine jackpot.
AMAZING SHOTS!!!
WOW!!!
Fireworks 🎆 and the Main Event!!!🧨
Thanks for the best video I saw about the implosion. You showed the complete drone and fireworks pre implosion as well as one of the best views of the implosion itself. I also liked the interviews of the people involved with the implosion at the end. Here is looking forward to the new ballpark and casino development to come.
A beautiful farewell absolutely beautiful❤
the spirit of tropicana will go somewhere else. When you are at a place and say this reminds me of the tropicana las vegas. There it is. Nice firework show👍
Richard, Raquel, Anita, Howard Mills. 9:26 Thank you for being a part of our lives. Along we brought our little Nicole and Boboy Mills. From Calypso Cafe. 🎉
Not going to lie- I didn’t know what to expect because Vegas has a long history of sending off their old casinos in spectacular fashion.
The iconic Dunes Casino was demolished the same day Treasure Island opened- and they had one of the ships from their pirate show “Fire its cannons” and the explosives went off in such a way that it looked like it was the ship that demolished the Dunes. With a standard like that, that was hard to beat.
A combination drone and fireworks show though? Not going to lie, this was pretty cool
Shit, the Dunes /Treasure Island 'battle' sounds great - lucky you!!
@@carlsaganlives6086 Oh no, it happened before I was born. I found the implosion video online- you should find it, it was a great send off
@@carlsaganlives6086 Forgive me if I gave the wrong idea; it was before I was born. I have seen videos online though- its worth checking out
I worked in Tropicana as a dealer and boy did I enjoy working for Tropicana. And got a ton of "action" at the pool. In the 90s Tropicana had the best pool in Vegas
That was an awesome end to two great buildings.
Awesome job, thank you. That was a perfect video
I never got to go to Las Vegas but i see the demolition of anything historic very, very ,very sad😢
Goodbye Tropicana Hotel 😭😭😭 1957 - 2024
Beautiful firework better than New Year
Thanks for uploading, the best view of this historic building farewell❤
Stayed there once for a weekend. Good times and a fantastic retirement/ farewell demolition. 😢
That hotel served folks in Las Vegas well. I'll give them that.
coolest demolition ever! Thanks buddy😊
Amazing fireworks ❤
Sad , because we would go there. Like everything else, progress must go on! ❤
Vegas knows how to put on a show! WOW!

Great camara work
That was awesome! Idk why it made me teary eyed but it did.
Amazing 👏👏👏
Impressive! I've been to Vegas a few times and loved the place. I have it as a place to retire and blow my savings!
The Gamble Smart channel had a cool perspective from the top of NYNY. 😊
I didn't see that much fireworks at the same time in the Infantry in Vietnam...nice job
That's what's called going out with a bang vegas style
The Hacienda (1956-1996) sees an old pal in hotel heaven.
The implosion [of the Hacienda] took place on the night of December 31, 1996, and was televised as the culmination of Fox's New Year's special Sinbad's Dynamite New Year's Eve, where it aired approaching midnight ET. The coverage featured a cameo by ring announcer Michael Buffer. A six-minute fireworks show led up to the implosion at 9:00 p.m. More than 1,000 pounds of explosives were used for the implosion, which was watched by a crowd of more than 300,000 people. As expected, the southern end of the hotel did not fall. The next day, a crew was brought in to bring down the remaining structure with a wrecking ball. Thousands of spectators gathered to watch the final demolition.
Okay yeah, that was pretty amazing to watch.
Now THATS going out in a blaze of glory!!
Show must go on.
It was perfect. All canons worked flawlessly
🌴🌴 But, those two large palm trees...

...So "TROPICana", in the desert...
I was conceived in the Tropicana.
"I hear that hotel tropicana is quite comfortable" said by once James Bond in Diamonds are Forever .
The window washers are pissed for sure
James Bond and Plenty o tool casino scene was Shot on this hotel and the famous scene in which three gunmen throws plenty (lana wood) out from window to swimming pool was also shot here
I believe that Biffs Hotel in one of the Back to the Future Movies, was the Tropicana. There was a large open area by the original tower, where the motorcycle gang was riding is circles. Check out the scene and you be the judge. J.
That was it and awesome firework show especially for a demolition
That's crazy
My goodness
So they’re building a casino next to the ballpark that would be awesome
That's how my head feels, exploding after dropping a load in LV. BUT, it was spectacular!
My uncle was once vice president of Tropicana Las Vegas.
Now that's a send off!
Can’t wait to drag the ranch out there Kids are going nuts
Crazy how the TT’s looked a lot like that as they suddenly came down.. 🤨 And they were SO much Taller, with Steel Beams everywhere in them. Js
Not me tearing up. Goodbye Tropicana
Goodbye, Tropicana…
i love how every talks about the tropicana more than the green lamborghini aventador sitting in the parking lot with the other cars
They’ve lit off more ordinance saying this is going to happen than it would to drop it!
I was at the Tropicana sixteen times never one a penny there.finally the curse worked...I loved seeing it blow up.chaplain from Illinois lol
I quess you are glad since you never ( one) a penny. However, it was a nice reasonable hotel.

Sitting outside in the Las Vegas heat to watch a baseball game, no thanks!
I would have kept the Hotel where it is and sent the Oakland A's back to Oakland back home to Oakland, lol!
Is there a thick layer of Grey "dust" everywhere like after the Stardust Implosion?????
Of course. Very unhealthy.
Goodbye Tropicana!
Can you imagine you trying to sleep in the nearby hotels as that happened!
Some of the chrysanthemum shell concussions were maybe 24 to up to maybe 30 inches in diameter. Extremely loud. Some of them blew up at a height of 1,000 feet in the air!
What’s sad is all that’s left is the Tropicana sign
Tropicana Hotel and Casino is going to be a baseball stadium?
Yep as the Las Vegas Athletics will be moving in by 2028
No evil will be left standing
The Tropicana hotel may be gone, but the name will carry on in the form of orange juice.
Was that a flyover around 2:00 ?
WOW yea baby
Goodbye Tropicana thanks for the staff members and employees and everyone worked there. What are making the stadium baseball is not a good investment it’s gonna cost a lot of traffic jam and everything it’s making it worse.
I was in a PhD at UNLV. Walked down to MGM and Tropicana 100 times. No action.
Only in Vegas

I found out exactly the way CDI blew it all up in this implosion, just guessing which company did it. I am guessing CDI did that because it was that demolition company responsible for the Aladdin hotel implosion:
1. After the fireworks, a ground fireworks show shows the 2 Tropicana towers.
2. Then there was the countdown from 10 to 1.
3. Then a bit more fireworks after that.
4. The L tower was blown by dynamite first.
5. The L tower is then taken down by the RDX blasts, and at the same time, the R tower is blown by dynamite first.
6. Finally, the final explosions - the RDX concussions bringing the R tower completely down.
The modus operandi - the first wave of blasts weaken mainly the supports of the structure. The second wave of blasts causes complete failure of the structure and leads to the pancake collapse.
