I like that your showing things that I’ve never seen before. All I’ve ever heard about Jean Spangler was her life right before she died and her disappearance. It must have taken some time to dig up all this information. Your honoring her memory by showing that she’s wasn’t a tragic figure. She was a human being that walked this earth and she lived and loved. She deserves to be honored and remembered.

I first heard of Jean Spangler's disappearance in 1958, when I was ten, on a summer day camp trip to Fern Dell with a church group of kids. Other kids told me that "a girl" disappeared there and only her purse was found. I forgot about this until as an adult, I heard about this story in connection with some less savory details about Kirk Douglas' life. A rumor that wouldn't die circulated for years that he had something to do with Spangler's vanishing.

Kirk Douglas seems like he was an arrogant and not nice character. It could be he had something to do with her murder. The husband angle seems possible, too. But Douglas was an up and coming star and the studio system would protect him from bad publicity. I hope you do more of the Hollywood mysteries. The details you have and the locations are far and above anything I've seen before. I am a true crime junkie and I have lots of biographies on Hollywood. You really bring these stories to life!

I just wrote the last rave review of your incredible documentary on Jean Spangler (I called you talented) and I wanted to add that I believe her husband is a probable culprit. Any lawyer can tell you the most dangerous and violent acts take place as a result of family court issues and Jean was embroiled in a doozy of a fight for custody. Also, you self-criticize about veering off the beaten trail during your observations, but I think they’re 1) relevant and 2) tremendously interesting! No complaints here. Thanks, Margot West; Scottsdale, AZ.

I think she was def seeing Kirk Douglas, and it was casual and she was having fun, but I’ve always thought her ex did it. With the custody battle, her pregnancy, and his new wife, she was getting in the way of everything. He was late with child support payments, and I think they were rumored to be still seeing each other despite his new marriage. I think he was abusive and manipulative, and he killed her. Really sad story.

Read my mind. I was just thinking yesterday, what great actor Michael Douglas is. His voice is so unique, I wonder if any of the comedians could do an impression of it. I know I couldn’t even try. But what a talent, always love watching him.

I know what you mean with old newspapers! Hilarious pointless stories about dinner parties and who was invited and what they ate…. My daughter pointed out “can you imagine the drama or reading that and figuring hot who wasn’t invited and why? 🤣 then Ww2 happened and the news seemed to shift some.

Were the family rich? They may well have lived in a two bedroom house when they first moved to the area.

What's the significance of the note to Kirk (presumably Douglas)? Was she pregnant by him? If true, could this be a motive for murder?

I’m 67 years old. The only Kirk I’ve ever heard of in my years on this planet is Kirk Douglas. Wonder how many Kirk’s were living in California at that time? Hmmmm🤔

I heard on a podcast about Jean that there were only 29 Kirks in CA at the time of her murder.

I love that 1940’s jazz/ swing, music, I just wish living in that era was good for all Americans instead of the majority. Everyone were fabulous dressers, man and women alike in Hollywood, unlike today in America where we dress so casual, these days you’d have to take a trip to Milan, Italy if you want to see chic and fabulous clothing, not here anymore.
