@@TheJustinRootShow you deserve the compliment and more. You’re clearly an old soul my friend, in that you care so much for these people’s stories who lived so long ago, and who meant so much to the people around them at the time. You’ve done a good thing, and I’m proud of you.
How bizarre that the Happy Laundry which sat behind the Avarado Street bungalows is still there after all this time, but the classy bungalows have been torn down. You would think the commercial 1 story laundry probably wasn't even built as well as the bungalows were. I guess some new builder and developer just wanted that prime spot of land.
I have to say I’ve watched all your tour/history videos since Wednesday and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them. Your stories are smart, great sense of humor and throughly educational and entertaining! I hope you continue these amazing videos!
A comprehensive vlog on Rudolph Valentino would be awesome. He still has so many fans. The trouble with this could be the time spent in NY before his move to CA. Oh well, great job on this outstanding 3 parter. Loved it! ❤
I have read quite a bit about Mary Miles Minter, her mother and the murder of William Desmond Taylor. Your program was very interesting and brought more people than I thought were involved to the forefront. More of this type of video please.
You have a great talent for story telling, you should write a book on this or on unsolved real crime, that's a popular genre. This is one of the best videos on this case.
Thank you for all the time and efforts you've put into this 3 parter on WDT and circumstances around his life and death. By far the best-researched on the case.

Reading Kirkpatrick's "A Cast of Killers" years ago was my introduction to the William Desmond Taylor story. It became my "travel" book and I'd haul it along anytime I had a lengthy flight. I realise Taylorology has disputed some of King Vidor's account but it's still fascinating. Your three-part investigation is brilliantly done and I so appreciate all the time you spent. I've been an avid fan of silent comedy my whole life and have a deep fondness for Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Edna Purviance, Sennett etc. and loved seeing current images of those homes, streets and sadly only parking lots where so much happened. I visited Niles several years ago and could feel the presence of Charlie and Edna there. For some reason Mabel and Edna always make me a bit sad. Such beauty and so much comedy when their personal lives were sometimes tragic. I'm glad to discover your UA-cam channel, Justin. I hope to watch many of your videos I've missed. Keep them coming! Congratulations!
Absolutely excellent. Amazingly researched without rush...the series is perfectly paced and in-depth, delivered in a tone both knowledgeable and personable. Thank you!!!

Loved this! I tare followed this for some time But did not know of Patricia Palmer. Yes the son should have come forward way before the late 90's. So good of Mary Pickford to be so kind to Mabel's Mother Do you remember the tr commercial of either Dunkin Donuts or MacDonalds that featured the girl who looked like Mabel Normand? At the time everyone said it was an uncanny resemblance to her. I want to say early 90's or so.. You did an amazing job on this one! My guess it was M.M.M., in a frantic episode. Her mother must have been a piece of work to live with sadly.
This series was so well done. Great job. It’s like The old Mysteries and Scandals show, but good. When I was pregnant with my third child in 2019 I had a horrible high risk pregnancy & I used to read and watch old Hollywood content a lot for escapism. I didn’t want to find out the sex of my baby until birth and when she was born I looked at her and said Harlow. I had no idea at the time, but later discovered, she and Jean Harlow have the same birthday!
So well done. I’ve read quite a bit about this mystery and I go back and forth among Shelby, Sands and Gibson. We’ll just never know unless something hidden shows up. Thanks for your exhaustive research and filming. I finally have visuals and much more background material to flesh out these characters. Thank you. Keep on searching and researching - you are scratching an itch!
Wow-the most enthralling saga of old Hollywood I can remember. You did a superb job putting the story together. I was so impressed with the on location tour of so many relevant spots-it brought the story to life! Please bring us more stories like this. I’m a Southern California native and love finding out about these historic, yet hidden spots. As far as the murder mystery goes, I think the simplest answer is probably correct-the former employee that disappeared.
I, too, am mesmerized by this case. You've done an amazing job on a long-lived and fascinating case. And fascinating people. Fascinating everything. There are a lot of cobwebs between us and old Hollywood, Santa Monica, their surrounds and people. Thank you.

Why do you think it's Mary's mother. It's very unlikely a female would do this. The creator of the documentary is merely reporting what the press concocted, and the press made up incredibly fantastical stories back in those days before defamation lawsuits became all the rage. It was about making money. I bet you believe anything you're told. It's most likely a same sex love affair gun awry by a hired gunman. So much for critical thinking. What is most concerning is people like yourself not only believe anything the media say, but will call for mob justice. These poor women's lives were ruined. Too bad their estates can't bring on lawsuits.
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this. Read a book on the murder a few years back and did some LA exploring about it at the time but was really nice to revisit with a detailed 3 part series :)
I have been reading and looking into the murder only over the last three weeks and it is fascinating. Took "Tinsel town" away for holiday reading.I have so much respect and liking for Mabel Normand and Desmond Taylor himself is an enigma. Best wishes from England on a job extremely well done.
This has been so interesting! You’re right, it’s definitely a shame there isn’t more out there about Mabel Normand as a person and actress or Mack Sennett.
Bravo👏👏👏👏Bravo👏👏👏👏.Fantastic work on this mystery that harks back to Hollywoods early years..What stars that lived in such times which you illuminated so well and better than a television production.. Thank you again and all the best from the U.K🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
This was fascinating and so well told. Thanks for introducing me to this cast of Old Hollywood characters and such a scandalous mystery. I’m now a fan of Mabel Normand. And I will never pass that bank on Sunset again without appreciating the tribute to Hollywood’s very first studio. Never knew that’s what that was.
I live in Chicago, and love learning about the history of certain neighborhoods, and the people who lived there. This is the best documentary regarding the case. I never saw the locations before.
I am also now a huge fan of Mabel Normand. She had such an influence on early Hollywood and with the likes of Goldwyn, Mayer and Chaplin playing a part at her memorial service, she was indeed well-respected and well-liked. RIP.
This video collection was very good and thorough. I've been fascinated by this story for years. I do wish you had mentioned director King Vidor's attempts to solve the killing so he could make a movie about it in the 1950s. Vidor and Taylor were contemporaries, but you probably already know that. Thanks.
Only on finishing part three did I realise I had just unintentionally watched nearly three hours of a deep-dive into WDT's murder. Time well spent. You did a great job.
Full marks for this series. I never would have imagined I could stay hooked for 2 1/2 hours on this but you did it! It was all of the footage of homes and places relating to the story. Most people just wouldn't be willing to put in the time the way you did. Definitely a fan!
I told myself I'd watch MAYBE the first ten minutes of the first part of this. That was the better part of three hours ago! Really compelling and fascinating -- even your tangents are engrossing. lol Thank you so much for this!

Calvary cemetery stands on its own as one of the most interesting places to see many beautiful and unique headstones. Well worth the trip to visit. Don't forget your camera or cell phone. Thanks a bunch for these videos. You really put a great deal of time into them. Sad that no one was prosecuted for Mr. Taylor's murder.
Hi, I really enjoyed your three part dive into this story. I'm from California & grew up in Altadena (all one word) & I loved seeing the various places.
What a brilliant presentation of William Desmond Taylor’s murder. I read Sidney Kirkpatrick’s book on the murder named “A cast of killers”some years ago, and was enthralled by it. But your version is the icing on the cake. I have learned so much more about the cast of characters from you. Thank you so much and I have now subscribed to your channel. I look forward to hearing more such stories from you. You tell them so well.
Great program! I always get an eerie feeling seeing where all those great homes used to be. It's a shame they've been razed to make room for "progress". Absolutely fascinating story, watched many versions, but I must say yours is top notch!! Love your voice& presentation. If only walls could talk, oh wait only before they're demolished😕. I'll definitely be watching more of your programs😘
2 plus hours and still a Captivating story Justin. Should be a film but Hollywood is to busy making remakes of films that weren’t that good the first time around.
Hi Justin, I Just watched your coverage of the William Desmond Taylor murder and was very impressed. This case has always interested me and I have never seen the case covered so thoroughly in video! Visiting all the locations really brought this 100 year case to life. Your 3 part series is put together so well that I'm sure that it's testament to how much time and effort went into its writing and producing it. I also want to thank you for mentioning Marble Normand. I too believe that she is a forgotten pioneer of the film industry. Finally, I really think that Margaret Gibson's had something to do with the murder. She had a connection with the national Blackmail ring which means she had the means, and Taylor had something to hide (motive being blackmail). Margaret, aka Gibby, aka Pat, apparently knew Taylor before they both got to Hollywood, they both traveled throughout the west in the same stock vaudeville company. She also conveniently traveled out of country when the second inquiry was occurring. Anyway just want to add my thoughts. Congratulations on the great Series of videos. Thank you so much!
This was amazing,i was glued to it all the way through. The amount of research you must have done is astounding, thank you for this,i hope you are proud of the job you did, just wonderful.
Justin. I'm 64 I've been obsessed with old Hollywood for decades. Lately watching Gregory peck. On the latest end . He is the most gorgeous sweet man of all. I hope you'd do s segment on him. I've loved all your podcasts. As a gay old guy I'm loving Gregory.
Hello Justin I just came across your channel! I thought i would never find someone who loved old Hollywood as i do!! I wish i would found your channel sooner! I live in Tennessee and had always wanted to go and see Hollywood. I finally got to go in January! It rained everyday! I only got a few hours to walk around in the flats I wanted to see things like you have in your videos! I have studied old Hollywood actors, etc for years!!! I hope i can come back again! The three part story of the WDT and Mabel was fantastic! It really shows how much thought and research you put into the content!!!!
Thanks so much for such a comprehensive, meticulous and entertaining presentation. You being out in the field and talking through the history of the places as well as the people really made it. Absolutely agree, the old studio needs Mabel's name on it. Best wishes from the UK
I just finished this and it was so good! Justin, you're so passionate about this case and your knowledge of it is remarkable. Thanks for sharing this story with us, so fascinating!
I couldn't click through to the next video quick enough for this tour Justin- it is just excellent and so engaging! I am always happy when new videos from you pop up as I know they will always be interesting and so well done no matter what they are about! I hope the interview with Mr.Bacardi works out he sounds like he had quite a facinating life and would be interested to hear more about him Thanks for sharing and I hope you are well and have a great week! :)
I always been fascinated by old Hollywood and the silent film era. This is probably the best documentary of the William Desmond Taylor murder mystery. Thank you for all your research and locations involved in this.
Love tales of old Hollywood and you tell the stories SO well. I’m a subscriber now and will go visit the rest of your videos. Thanks so much for giving this “old Hollywood” lifetime fan some great entertainment!
You have given me a wonderful new appreciation to all of the first Hollywood Stars. You have done so much justice to their stories. Bravo . Again, I will say so glad I found you. Keep on creating these great stories.
Whole heartedly agree with you about Mable Normand. Why there is little mention of her or a great movie about her is a shame. Loved your detailed look at this murder. I’ve been interested in this ever since I read the book A cast of killers in 86. I’ve also read Tinseltown and listened to Podcasts. I love how you pulled all the information together and took us to the actual places, great job. Wondering if you’d be interested in doing this kind of treatment to Rosco Arbuckles case, my other obsession. I know you touched on it here but there is sooo much to his case. Again brilliant job, thank you.
Bravo! Excellent storytelling! I listened to all 3 while cleaning my house ~ I love your voice tone, you also are so very thorough! I’ve subscribed to enjoy other videos! Thank you! 💖💖💖💖💖
I loved your documentary, because it plays out like a documentary . You did such an amazing job on the research and then going to the locations made it feel like we're more involved. There was so much detail. You had me hooked right away. I loved the back story of every possible "suspect." Good job!!!😊😊😊
Awesome, well told history. I couldn’t stop watching - Thank you! I first learned about this from the King Vidor book A Cast of Killers but your research and story-telling adds a lot of new detail and debunks some myths as well. Really appreciated you taking us to the actual physical sites. This would make a great film. There really should be tours devoted to this and other stories from early Hollywood. It would be worth a trip!
This is FABULOUS. Love your channel. Love Hollywood history. ps details about folks reading or playing dominoes…imagine Americans going one day now w/o internet and streaming, how would we cope? lol.

It's a shame that so much LA's beautiful architecture has been lost. You did a great job researching and presenting this historic mystery. Thank you 😊
I agree. It's heartbreaking.
Agreed!
Surprisingly there still a lot of it left. It’s a shame more and more keeps getting demolished so ugly “luxury” apartments and hotels.
There is a good reason why architecture is lost. It looks hideous when the paint fades, the wood starts to rot and the roof falls in. Then it rains.

Its not a stretch to think that a gun was fired during a Blackmail attempt.
I have always been in love with old Hollywood and this case. I really love how you told the story, and it's amazing ! You have a new subscriber ❤

Justin. I'm 64 I've been obsessed with old Hollywood for decades. Lately watching Gregory peck. On the latest end . He is the most gorgeous sweet man of all. I hope you'd do s segment on him. I've loved all your podcasts. As a gay old guy I'm loving Gregory.
You do great work. Thank you
Hello Justin I just came across your channel!
A fascinating story…and very well told! I agree with you. I’d love to see a movie made about Mabel.
Thanks so much for such a comprehensive, meticulous and entertaining presentation. You being out in the field and talking through the history of the places as well as the people really made it.
Absolutely agree, the old studio needs Mabel's name on it.
Best wishes from the UK
Bravo.. what a lovely job you've made of this investigation.. best one I have come across.. SAlute
This would be a great movie with the right people.❤
I just finished this and it was so good!
I hope the interview with Mr.Bacardi works out he sounds like he had quite a facinating life and would be interested to hear more about him
Thanks for sharing and I hope you are well and have a great week!
It wasn't Andy's Mayberry.
@@allenschmitz9644 Who would want it to be.
Incredible work 🎉❤
Great people are always ahead of their time. That's what makes them great. RIP Mabel Normand
Incredible case.
Bravo! Excellent storytelling! I listened to all 3 while cleaning my house ~ I love your voice tone, you also are so very thorough! I’ve subscribed to enjoy other videos! Thank you! 💖💖💖💖💖
Thank you so much for all of the information, amazing story😊
I loved your documentary, because it plays out like a documentary . You did such an amazing job on the research and then going to the locations made it feel like we're more involved. There was so much detail. You had me hooked right away. I loved the back story of every possible "suspect." Good job!!!😊😊😊
Thank you so much. You did a incredible job with this classic story.
So well done bravo bravo much respect sir
Awesome, well told history. I couldn’t stop watching - Thank you! I first learned about this from the King Vidor book A Cast of Killers but your research and story-telling adds a lot of new detail and debunks some myths as well. Really appreciated you taking us to the actual physical sites. This would make a great film. There really should be tours devoted to this and other stories from early Hollywood. It would be worth a trip!
This is FABULOUS. Love your channel. Love Hollywood history. ps details about folks reading or playing dominoes…imagine Americans going one day now w/o internet and streaming, how would we cope? lol.
