The truth is he wasn’t allowed to work, in an illegal manner. The point is, Kyrie didn’t play much last year, because he was being punished for not taking a vaccine that statistically had a higher rate of Giving him a disease than it did of preventing death… for people in his demographic group. Stephen A, as an arm for the establishment, is there to deride Kyrie for being an independent man and doing what was logical (saying there’s a higher possibility I develop myocarditis from the vaccine than it is I die from Covid). But instead of deriding him on the facts of that decision, he uses everything outside of that to attack him. Not to mention, the state of New York is essentially saying the Brooklyn Nets improperly docked his pay, by not allowing him to work.
Jay Williams is right. SAS has been the main one leading the charge labeling Kyrie as a guy who "doesn't show up to work" and it all started because Kyrie missed the season not being vaccinated Kyrie missed a few games during the Jan 6 moments, and missed a season for not getting vaccinated (most unpredictable time of our generation) yet SAS makes it seem like Kyrie just doesn't play games because he doesn't want to. He usually misses games because he is injured, like many other players. SAS doesn't push this narrative with players like Kawhi, Zion, AD, Paul George, Kevin Love, Jimmy Butler, Bradley Beal (another player who didn't get vaccinated), and many more who consistently miss games each season. Never hear SAS say Kawhi doesn't "show up to work"
It's so funny what people choose to focus on in a debate. How about focusing on the merits of the arguments themselves? Stephen A Smith doesn't know how to make a serious argument. That's always been true. But Jay certainly doesn't either.
Steven A. acts like the money comes out of his pocket. The Nets exercised their right to not pay Kyrie long term and Kyrie responded with a move in his best interest. None were wrong, what's the big deal??
The nets pulled the contract away, because Kyrie wouldn’t agree to the terms of it, such as the four year deal only being valid upon him and the Nets, reaching the finals within the first two years of the deal
Jason Williams always defending Kyrie Irving. The Duke brotherhood is always on protection mode. Kyrie is not reliable and Dallas will experience that in due time.
Let's be honest here, Smith yells pretty much every episode. It's rare that he does not sound like he is upset when he talks. He did end up getting triggered as time went on because Jay kept saying he was getting upset so he ended up actually getting upset. Jay has always been a "leave Kyrie alone" type of person. Kyrie tends to do more things that will make you pick on him than make you praise him. Hell, the one thing that you can praise him on(basketball) he tends to not do as often now. The dude will just bolt on the team and show up 2 weeks later like he overslept. Steven A has always praised Kyrie for being an amazing player and a superstar in the league. But he has also criticized him for what he has done, and we can all agree that it's rightfully deserved. Jay is blinded by his love for Kyrie and he just sees it as Steven A picking on his little brother for no reason. Even though his little brother has been bullying all the kids in the playground for a while he just chooses not to see it.
Lol whaaaat are u talkin about?? That analogy was mud, bro. 😅. U seem like one of the ppl that STILL don't realize the SUPREME COURT ruled the against the whole vaccine mandate and it was proven wrong... still using it against kyrie tho? Kyrie played more games for the Nets than KD, where is the criticism for him? Yall need to think for yourselves. Stop listening to these TV personalities OPINIONS and come up w your own conclusions.
Shoutout to Jay Williams! How many times has Stephen A said “The problem with Kyrie” over the last week??? He starts every discussion about Kyrie with that statement.
When a black man is a thinker and not just an athlete people get upset. If SaS wasn’t always buck dancing he wouldn’t have that show massa love to watch him show out. Respect and dignity will outlast dollars watch
What did he realize that first take is the number one show at that time slot or or the fact that once again Kyrie Irving left a teammate hanging or the fact that he get paid millions and millions of dollars and he only come to work half the time ACCOUNTABILITY ACCOUNTABILITY ACCOUNTABILITY
Yeah, I generally don't agree with Steven A, but he didn't mischaracterize this situation. I think J is sensitive to Kyrie and he's allowing that to miss the point. Bottom line. Kyrie believes he's a Max player, not understanding that he is certainly 1 of the best players in this league, but it takes more than that for a team to put its future into the hands of someone who doesn't represent what the team is trying to do. Both of these men have not seen this thing eye to eye for years and the vaccination thing was the thing that broke the well.
Who in they right mind would give Kyrie a max guarantee contract lol . His talent doesn’t trump his unpredictability that’s all I’m saying. You think I’m giving you guaranteed millions so 2 months from now you quit or decide you don’t wanna play OH HELL NO
I was into Stephen A as a teenager. An an adult I can see he's a fraud.... ALL these sports "experts" who never played basketball, football, baseball or boxed, but have the audacity to think their 'fan opinion' is more valid than pros who were All Americans, All Stars or even HOFers... are jokes. The only ppl sillier than them are the other fans who watch them everyday on TV
The media is trying to make it seem like Kyrie is a tornado. When I’m reality, nets is a bad organization and I don’t see how anyone would want to play for the nets.
I think it has something to do with both Jay Will and Kyrie are Duke PGs, also both Kyrie and Jay Will played h.s. ball in Jersey... Kyrie probably hits close to home for Jay. Both were top 2 picks...and both have off the court issues that hamper their availability, and in the case of Jay Williams, off the court stuff cost him his career. I think Jay Will is too close to this Kyrie issue to be logical and not personalize it given both players backgrounds.
It has nothing to do w that. You don't notice how Stephen A talks ab Kyrie?? He's called him an idiot, said he should retire, said he's not interested in basketball, unreliable. U realize Kyrie played more games for the Nets than KD did?? So how come KD not unreliable??
I agree. But you don't call someone an idiot or idiotic. If you give someone life advice and they don't take it, then that's their life. And honestly it's really not that deep to be calling people names or buffooning them on TV. I think that what triggered Jay more than anything SAS said.
No it even close. He’s been instructed to bash Kyrie because of his stance on the vaccine. You don’t see him going off on Kawhi about not being reliable do you??? Kyrie didn’t play because he wasn’t allowed to, and he still played more games than Kawhi
Stephen A is definitely wrong about Kyrie's money. SAS receives a check he doesn't write them. Multiple teams wanted to pay Kyrie so there was a major interest in paying him throughout the league.
Stephen A is right on Kyrie. That’s why He hasn’t won a chip since He left Cleveland.Kyrie is loyal to no one. He just went to a team with an all time scorer who doesn’t play Defense and that what Kyrie does. Scores but plays no defense. Selfish move by a selfish person. He’ll be mad in three years and bounce
I'm a Stephen A. fan but in all honesty, it's true that Stephen A gets fired up on everything Kyrie, just look up his old videos - it's borderline obssessive. There have been interviews that have nothing to do with Kyrie and somehow Stephen A. will rope in the Kyrie topic. It's really puzzling.
I believe that’s just SAS. He honestly does ride on anything about Kyrie, but he rides a spaceship about the Cowboys. All said and done, First Take is entertainment. They provide news/views about sports, but no one should think it’s just strictly news. With all the jokes and skits that come along with the 2-hour show. The entertainment is honestly why it’s one of the most watched. For that reason, SAS is an entertainer generating views. I don’t knock it, but I don’t think it’s just Kyrie.
He does have something for Kyrie BUT Kyrie has had problems in Boston after he couldn’t play with LeBron then one thing after another in Bklyn and drove my man Harden out

Idk why everyone is bashing Stephen A on this one. He said nothing negative about Kyrie and only spoke facts. He always mentions that Kyrie is undeniably box office talent and never denies that. The issue is that Kyrie isn't reliable, and that he isn't a great leader, and that is truth! Biggest issue and most important is the personal lack of accountability Kyrie has. Kyrie is an incredible player but that doesn’t help any organization when that talent is unavailable. A lot of reputable journalists/reporters and players bring up how his decisions to not play hurt the teams he’s been on and his reluctance to take accountability. Kyrie’s track record shows or gives teams hesitancy to pay him max dollars and from an organizational standpoint that has merit.
True SA is passionate about the matter because Kyrie is a role model and its crucial for him to act responsibly on a contract he signed as a professional.
And the way everyone else seems to not be interested in Kyrie having any accountability pisses me off. This is the third team he has been the problem on, and people act like he’s never made a mistake. We don’t even need to get into everything he actually did in Brooklyn.

It's so funny what people choose to focus on in a debate. How about focusing on the merits of the arguments themselves? Stephen A Smith doesn't know how to make a serious argument. That's always been true. But Jay certainly doesn't either.
He has played more than Kawhi. Hop off of Kyrie 🤦🏾♂️
It's deeper than that. SAS gives Kyrie heat but never gave that heat to Jerry Jones or Dana white
They aren’t even the same situation u goofy
Steven A. acts like the money comes out of his pocket. The Nets exercised their right to not pay Kyrie long term and Kyrie responded with a move in his best interest. None were wrong, what's the big deal??
Yes ...Steven A. is a joke...
He does take it personal.
BOOM 💥 ALL programmed kyrie haters need to read this comment that’s the point
The nets pulled the contract away, because Kyrie wouldn’t agree to the terms of it, such as the four year deal only being valid upon him and the Nets, reaching the finals within the first two years of the deal
SAS is right about Kyrie, he’s been a narcissistic diva who been jumping team to team because he’s a weirdo.

Kyrie is just trying to find himself plus he can hoop. The second his play slows down the NBA will be done with him.
JAY W IS THE ONLY ONE THAT AT LEAST STANDS UP TO STEPHEN A. GOOD JOB JAY.
Jalen Rose and JJ Redick say “hi”.
Jason Williams always defending Kyrie Irving. The Duke brotherhood is always on protection mode. Kyrie is not reliable and Dallas will experience that in due time.
Jason Williams?, white chocolate or the one locked up?
STEPHEN A SMITH IS SO BITTER AND JEALOUS THAT HE WAS NEVER A PRO ATHLETE HIMSELF IT’S SICKENING!!!!!!
Even though his little brother has been bullying all the kids in the playground for a while he just chooses not to see it.
very well said, specially the last paragraph 👏
Who is kyrie bullying lol
Kyrie hasn’t bullied anyone he just refuses to be a slave lol this is some gas lighting
What has Irving done?
Lol whaaaat are u talkin about?? That analogy was mud, bro. 😅. U seem like one of the ppl that STILL don't realize the SUPREME COURT ruled the against the whole vaccine mandate and it was proven wrong... still using it against kyrie tho? Kyrie played more games for the Nets than KD, where is the criticism for him? Yall need to think for yourselves. Stop listening to these TV personalities OPINIONS and come up w your own conclusions.
Have that same energy for your "friends" Jerry Jones and Dana White Stephen A.
You'll be seeing less of J Will on 1st take

He never came back either... he was supposed to be on 2 segments

You're on point. Moreover, if I was Jay, I wouldn't want to go on Stephen's show either.

Jay said nothing wrong 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
Shoutout to Jay Williams!
How many times has Stephen A said “The problem with Kyrie” over the last week??? He starts every discussion about Kyrie with that statement.
because he does have a lot of problems, including being a cancer to every team he's played for since leaving Cleveland

Now that Jay is realizing what Max dealt with when Max was on First Take

“F” Kyrie how bout that !

I honestly don’t know what Jay’s point was supposed to be
The media is trying to make it seem like Kyrie is a tornado. When I’m reality, nets is a bad organization and I don’t see how anyone would want to play for the nets.

I’ve never seen SAS NOT be really emotional and go to extremes one way or another.
I think Jay have a real good point all Jay’s saying is the energy level is VERY different when it comes to Kyrie
It has nothing to do w that. You don't notice how Stephen A talks ab Kyrie?? He's called him an idiot, said he should retire, said he's not interested in basketball, unreliable. U realize Kyrie played more games for the Nets than KD did?? So how come KD not unreliable??
There's alot of things I disagree with Stephen A but he is totally correct on his stance with kyrie. All he is asking is the man to come to work
I agree. But you don't call someone an idiot or idiotic. If you give someone life advice and they don't take it, then that's their life.

If Stephen A Smith was a sports commentator back in 1968, he would have been giving Tommie Smith & John Carlos a hard time for the Black Power Salute after receiving their medals in Mexico City.
Being a puppet of mainstream is the legacy that Stephen A Smith chose.

@@DeanDangerousTDD7 who are you asking, yourself?
We talk about Kyrie Irving more than we talk about Brett Farve I think that’s the general point that Jay will is trying to make
Kyrie is one of the most popular and polarizing sports stars today. Brett Favre ain't played in the NFL for over a decade. There are people that watch this show that have never even seen Favre play so why would he possibly be brought up that much?
@@JohnSmith-lc8mp he stole millions from the poorest state in the country…
@@JohnSmith-lc8mp like bro your clearly not getting the point we talk about Kyrie and make him the villain for every move he makes but these other guys like Brett Farve and Robert server pull the crap they pull and it gets no media coverage how do you not see a problem?
@icecoldballing you are trying to take up for kyrie with some bad examples. Brett Favre was accused of being a part of a welfare scandal. He has not been found guilty yet. What are they supposed to say. They brought it up when it happened. It's an ongoing case. When there is any new development it will be a huge story. The sun's owner was accused of using racial slurs and being a shit boss. He is selling the 35 percent he owns in the suns/mercury. They talked about it. What else do they have to do. Its over. Kyrie just asked for a trade and got traded in the last couple days. It is the biggest sports story. Idk why you think this is unfair.
I'm with Jay more but I understand Stephen a on if your a athlete your held to a different standard and your gonna be highlighted
ALOT of people are with Jay. ESPECIALLY black folk. BC we know Kyrie isnt racist or crazy, he just posted a link talking about his heritage(which happened to point out The FalseHoods in "JEW-ish" culture. But most people are afraid of going against the grain bc the TV says not to & whatever they post on TV is FACT supposedly. WRONG. They still are trying to make him out to be a crazy person but KD just asked OUT OF BROOKLYN like 2 months ago. Was he a problem? NAH. Just kyrie. CLEARLY the owner is a "HERD MENTALITY" mindset type of guy and wanted to show his contribution to the "HATE KYRIE TRAIN" by doing & saying crazy things to and about kyrie(His contract stipulations, & him having to see therapists before he can play ball again🤔) PEOPLE always wanna say "FK THE MAN" or whatever, UNLESS its ab a BLACK MAN being racist (supposedly) Then, its "OH YEA, THEY ARE RIGHT" ..Especially Mr. TV HIMSELF, STEPHEN A🤡
Stephen A is being over the top but honest. Jay Williams is friends with Kyrie. That sums it up.
