- www.autobytel.c... Mercedes says their design goal for the S-Class is the “essence of luxury” and they sure have hit the nail on the head. With a base price of $92,900 the S550 is reserved for those who can live the life of luxury. On the inside of this luxury sedan there are high end materials everywhere. From the perforated leather trim, to the 2-tone dash, to the warm wood; the interior is a great place to spend time.
The driving experience is what you would expect from the luxury flagship that is the Mercedes S-Class. Under the hood there is a 4.7 liter twin-turbo V-8 that makes 455 horsepower. Keep in mind this is the entry level model. But cruising along in quite comfort and luxury is the way to go.

Theres that something i can't really put my finger on that the s class lacks. Its a great car but i kind of feel the BMW 750Li is brilliant. it might not be as comfortable as a S class but to drive though. PHEW !! may be thats why they call it the drivers luxury car

people who buy these kind of cars don't care about a $10k difference..they want to travel in top notch comfort, safety and luxury. This is why this Mercedes sells more S Class than Audi A8, BMW 7series & Jaguar XJ combined! COMBINED! this car is everything

Beautiful car. This is the car I would have, and I would choose it over anything in its class. Mercedes did an incredible job.
This car is cute for everyday driving..but nothing beats a RR Phantom for special nights out on the town. RR craftsmanship still makes this S Class look like a common car.

FYI in Poland where I live, entry model of S-Class S400 Hybrid! V6+ electric motor long wheel base costs $120K. S500 = $140K.
Sick prices! S600L V12 :D entry model = $220K. The most expensive one is of course AMG S65 = $300K.
Mercedes W205 because the amg s65 is the most powerfull sedan ever.

I've been around this car many times. I've sat in it, and I'm not kidding, this is actually the only car I've even been in that's more comfortable than my own bed. It's just a stunningly beautiful car inside and out. Nothing touches it.
Now, granted, this is the S Class. This is a car that is seen rolling out of estate communities.
And no one should say that this car is overrated. Almost every big thing that happens to a car usually happens to this car first. It deserves every amount of respect, like the Mustang.
You need a better bed, baby..lol. I love my S Class but it's not more comfortable than my memory foam bed. Memory foam..it's the bomb!
This car is NOT expensive. It really deserves the price tag because if you compare it to Rolls Royce and Bentley, its just 1/3 the cost. It may not be as exclusive as its British rivals, but its just as luxurious and comfortable, and the technology and functions are SUPREME. You never get first class reclining seats on RR or Bentley at any price, neither an intelligently located picnic table and so much more...

I'm thinking of this S550 4Matic as my second car. I have a 400 hp 2013 wrx sti as a daily driver now. It's fun as hell but lacks any luxury and will eventually be replaced by the Alfa Romeo 4C as of now. :)
For once the yanks have it right. It is aluminum, aluminium is an incorrect construction. In every other case the yanks get it wrong.
the A8 may have a technological edge, but the level of sheer luxury or "plushness" in this car is not to be matched by any of the competitors.
This reminds me of 2014 when I used to watch so many car reviews like a mad man
i like this car, but jaguar xj for me. they're rarer, look if not nicer, better exhaust note, and offers a supercharger.
I just hope I will be able to own one of these cars before I die. It is my dream car.

Im 6'7 i own a 2008 S class .. S class looks good on tall drivers and funny for short ones... btw its the only car that makes me feel "human"

The fact that these are selling for 35k now it seems like a steal for basically a 2019 s class except without as much tech but still the tech is insane for 35k also the fact that this looks like a 2019 model and the only real difference is the infotainment like i just still cannot get over how great a deal this is when I’m like able to drive i wanna buy a 5 year old s class although i will say you cannot get one that was this expensive for 35k but such a great deal

I’m turning 16 soon and I everyone tells me I’m a good driver so I found a 2014 Mercedes s class for 25k and only 40k miles and it is right at my budget so I thing I’m going to go for it because my mom has a Mercedes sedan the amg gt 4 door coupe 2020 and she lets me drive it up and down our long driveway and I want to keep Mercedes in the family

2 things that bother me
1-the shiny black bezel surrounding both screens. It looks cheap and not very well integrated.
2- the fact that i actually prefer analog speedometer which in my opinion looks classier especially in this car segment.
Otherwise, this car is as close as it gets to perfection. I am curious to see what bmw has to offer in the upcoming 7 series.
Now IF the Audi was the same price, would you still take the Audi?

I am in the market for a pre owned car. I test drove a 2012 S 550 4matic. It's a beautiful luxurious car, but there was something missing from the driving experience. I just didn't feel it. I prefer the driving dynamics of Porsche and BMW. I don't know if I'm stupid but I just love the handling of my 2007 335i
BMW and Porsche require more driver input...

The S-class is overrated and overpriced for nothing. The S65 AMG can cost $200K+, in which case I would rather have a Bentley for that price. Even the S550 itself is overpriced for what you get; would take a Jaguar XJ sedan any day over that car. Yes, I have been in an S-class before.
***** mercedes has always been about safety. although the luxury, price tag, and all the other features overshadow the safety of this car, it has to be noticed. theres literally no way of dying in this car.
This car is way superior to the Flying Spur, from sophistication to comfort and even looks as it displays aristocratic RWD proportions vs the FWD stance of the Bentley (short hood and axis-to-dash ratio). The British interior layout is the only thing that could be somehow better yet entirely subjective. Learn your facts.
The Magic Body Control is enough reason for this car to overshadow a Bentley.

I often wonder which large luxury saloon I would buy is money was no issue. The Bentley and S class (along with a Panamera) are on my short list. Even being British, I would be concerned about the build quality of Bentley. I visited the factory before and after the VW takeover. Before the 'under skin' build quality was terrible. Even with the magic VW chequebook, the quality is not (IMO) quite as good as the S Class - although the Bentley is rarer.

As nice as the S-Class is, its over rated. How is this car "better" than a world class Rolls Royce Phantom or Bentley Mulsanne because its got better technology? The S-Class is manufactured the same way as the C-Class is. Rolls Royce and Bentley are hand made. Don't get me wrong I like the S-Class, but its not as good as people think.
This car is ok, but it's disappointing compared to the Tesla Model S. Test drive both, and you'll see what I mean. Don't just support mercedes because you're a fanboi - actually drive one, then drive the other. Not just around the block - take them out for a good half hour, on good pavement, bad pavement, fast, slow, corners, straight -- wring them out. And you'll walk away wondering how mercedes managed to drop the ball so badly.

only 97k? here in argentina for that price you get the cheapest 2014 C200 class, this car would probably cost around 250k here,.... I know.....
I am trying to get this car from my father in law. He is upgrading to the new S550 in March 2021. I might get this 2014 baby from him for under $30,000 with less than 50,000 miles.

In Australia, s550 or we call s500, the price is $340,000, s350 for $240,000. S63 amg is $400,000.
This car is looking too big in this video but I think there is some camera trick because I have seen this car on the road it doesn't look as big as looking here. However the Mercedes s class is bigger than the average car no doubt.
