"They all have faults" I have to disagree sir. Maybe Euro spec and AU spec are different, but here in Europe i've seen well maintained Mercedes S classes (W222) with 300.000 kms. Of course, it has a lot of components that can break, but as long the engine is well maintained that will save you the biggest expenses like engine rebuilds due to the nano coating degrading in the cylinder walls for example.

The thing about Mercedes Benz. The car was made for people of wealth. They lease a car after the lease they lease a new Benz. Now for who dare to purchase a used Benz for a great low price. 1) you want to get extended warranty. Because what year the car is. You will be charged Mercedes Benz very high labor and parts. Personally, if you do buy a used Benz you will be with car that will be . needing increased service cost you betterextend warranty. I personally would never buy used Mercedes if I couldn't afford a new Mercedes or lease I would pass. I don't need a money pit. Good luck
Why the Mercedes Benz S550 Is the Best Car Under $40,000...When it's working. Mercedes builds these cars to last (mostly) through a 3 year lease. Even then, they're not especially reliable. Off warranty, the maintenance and parts cost is astronomical, as multiple systems are engineered to fail within 5 years. If you can get a full warranty on one, than you can consider it, but it's a big risk. Off warranty, than no way. There's a reason that they depreciate 90% in 3 years.
That engine has 449 hp not 549. I hope you purchased an extended warranty, otherwise you'll be spending tens of thousands of dollars in repair bills over the next 5-10 years. I've been an S-class owner for 20 years and the maintenance is too high on these newer models. I'm switching to electric now.
Nope, sorry. I beg to differ; a used S550 is not the best used luxury car to buy under $40000. A '15 S class has no warranty left, and as everyone reading this probably knows, is very expensive to fix and maintain (as are all luxury cars these days). There's no way I would buy a car with that level of technology without a warranty. Because they didn't listen to their guidance counselor in high school who recommended attending medical or law school or getting an electronic engineering degree instead of one in art history, environmental studies, or teaching, the reason people buy used luxury cars is to save money. Just as an example, when the A.S.S. (Active Suspension System) on your 7 year old S550 takes a crap (and it will), you're looking at almost 5 large to replace the shocks, control module, and compresser. That's not my idea of saving money. I bought a Certified Pre-owned 2018 Genesis G90 AWD 3.3 liter twin turbo engine in May of 2021. You Merc fanatics may disagree, but for me the G90 is 85% of the car that an S Class is at 50% of the price. Yes, it's a glorified Hyundai, it only has 365 h.p./ 376 ft. lbs. of torque versus the 550's 449 h.p./516 ft. lbs., and it doesn't message my sacroiliac, spritz perfume at my nose, allow my eyes to see a mile ahead in the dead of night, or let me electronically adjust the degree of sunroof shade, but it's still a very nice ride, and my bank account tells me I made a good decision. The list price of the 2018 G90 was $71850, but I bought it 3 years old and with 24,000 miles for $37300 just before used car prices went bat-shit crazy. The real salsa on the enchilada is Genesis's 5 years/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper, and 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranties. My car had 24 months and 36 k miles of bumper-to-bumper warranty remaining when I bought it, but the CPO designation extends that warranty 12 months and 15,000 miles for a total of 72 months/ 75000 miles. And then don't forget the Genesis powertrain warranty. It's 10 years/100000 miles for the original owner, but is reduced to 5 years/ 60000 miles for subsequent owners. However, the CPO designation extends the powertrain warranty back to the original 10 yrs/10 k miles for the second owner. So I bought a 3 year old car with 36 months and 51 thousand miles of B2B warranty, and 64 months, and 76,000 miles of powertrain warranty remaining, almost as much as Mercedes' original owner warranty (48 months/50,000 miles for both bumper-to-bumper and powertrain). So if you want to drive like a pasha but have a serf's budget, a CPO Genesis is the way to go.
Stay the f away from the m278 powered S550. This engine reliability is terrible compare to the previous NA version as well the next 4.0T version. Spend several thousands more and get a 2018 S450 or S560. Let the early S550 blow up and rot.
Hey clueless IDIOT. Listen carefully, fool. 1. Obviously you have NEVER owned an S class NOR any other vehicle that represents AUTOMOTIVE GREATNESS. 2. NO, you are NOT buying a $100,000 vehicle. You are buying a vehicle that sold for $100,000 NEW, and THIS MEANS this is far MORE $ in 2022 worthless Idiot Joe Biden Dollars you got in your pocket. 3. NO, You DAMNED, CLUELESS FOOL, there are NO CHANCES that you will EVER end up spending $60,000 to fix it, unless you were a clueless idiot like YOURSELF and you ABUSED IT. 4. Unlike you, I speak from CONSIDERABLE experience. Mercedes sedans are probably the best kept Secret. While the conventional wisdom is that Lexus (glorified Camrys) are very reliable, my two Mercedes sedans, bought in 2016 and 2017, with guarantees, plenty of miles, and IMMACULATE, 2007 and 2008 models, that I drive continuously until today, have been THE MOST RELIABLE CARS I HAVE EVER OWNED, and I have owned PLENTY of GREAT cars, from Hondas to 7 Series BMWs, the BEAUTIFUL One, a 1998 740iL, which I owned from 2005 to 2017. So STICK TO YOUR FUGLY, STUPID TRUCKS and DO NOT TAKE the LEGENDARY Mercedes name in your foul mouth in vain!
Why do you think these cars depreciate so fast? Because it has a history of after 30,000 miles things start to break. They're expensive to fix and expensive to maintain. The prices for parts for this car are insane. Friend of mine hit a pothole and cracked the wheel. $2,000 to replace. He also had an electrical piece go out, 5 grand for part and install! Stay away from this car at all cost!
Dude stop misleading ppl. It needs another $50k spare for the 💯 certain repairs. You are either out of your mind or just getting paid for misleading ppl.

@@E28Source Thanks. That was a good deal. I have a 2015 S550 4-Matic with every option including the executive package and upgraded sound system! Awesome vehicle.
Do not buy a benz without a warranty people. It will destroy your pockets without it.
Please provide me with practical guide on how I can get a good buy shipped to me in Nigeria.
Probably best to buy one in the EU.
U can buy mines for 40k
I was gonna buy a 2016 s class for $33,000, with 32,300 miles no warranty, but after reading these comments I changed my mind, think I’ll settle for a nice Honda Nissan or Toyota.
Where’s that one at? I’ll buy it! Lol
you know it would have still been under factory warranty... lol you need to do more homework, and stop thinking about these comments.
I've read too many horror stories from Genesis owners. Sounds like a pig in a dress. Hopefully yours works out.
@@ronn68 So far, so good...the only warranty work I've had done in 2 years was to replace the front radar cover built into the grill.
Nice classy car, but that sweatshirt not so much.
Patagonia
@@E28Source "Expensive" does not mean good style or luxury.
I thought it looked great, good style.
@@melltubemell looks like a lumberjack in a Mercedes. It may look better in a Jeep or a pick up truck.
Stay the f away from the m278 powered S550. This engine reliability is terrible compare to the previous NA version as well the next 4.0T version.
Spend several thousands more and get a 2018 S450 or S560. Let the early S550 blow up and rot.
If you buy a $100,000 Mercedes S class for $40,000, chances are you were going to end up spending $60,000 fixing it up.
Where can I buy a S560 from for under $40.000? We just got ours for closer to $70.000. Over $70.000 with tax. But the car is fantastic 👌. Love it
Not necessarily…that’s the fear of someone that just can’t afford it 🤷🏾♂️
Nonsense.
@@michaelt4338 Probably unlikely for a S560 around 40k. I suspect that's why the title indicates S550, which is the older version.
I had a boss who reasoned that if a car was 100 grand and you can buy it used for 40 grand then that car is 60% wore out.
Under 40k shit what state is he in CuZ a lot more in Boston
MI
If it was a California car it would be worth more.
Yeah best car under $40k with maintenance around $30k 😂😂
Why do you think these cars depreciate so fast? Because it has a history of after 30,000 miles things start to break. They're expensive to fix and expensive to maintain. The prices for parts for this car are insane. Friend of mine hit a pothole and cracked the wheel. $2,000 to replace. He also had an electrical piece go out, 5 grand for part and install! Stay away from this car at all cost!
Dude stop misleading ppl. It needs another $50k spare for the 💯 certain repairs. You are either out of your mind or just getting paid for misleading ppl.
No it doesn’t. My repair Bill over the next 20k miles was $550.
Stop buying rebuilt titles.
