Hi Tracy, Just found your channel. I am not sure why this is so confusing to me. So say if I want the top color to be teal would I paint the board with a light teal, put on the crackle and then a darker teal?
The bottom color will be the one that shows through. I've only tried this will black paint, crackle, then a lighter coat of paint on top (usually white or buttermilk). The black (or darker color) is what shows through the "cracks" - if that makes sense. If you want teal - I would test it out on a piece of scrap wood and then you'll know. I would suggest black bottom or first coat, then a coat of crackle and then teal for top coat. Hope that helps.
I think your trying to say if you brush it too many times your rubbing the crackle off and it wont actually work, the more strokes the less crackle will be achieved.
Love how you just dive into the lettering. I stress way too much about placement, etc. Yours looks amazing!

Can you use glue instead of crackle?
I have not used the elmer's school glue technique but several friends have told me that it works. Happy crackling! xo! 😘
