Lots of great information as using like products with each other and they reapplying paint and the crackle stays in play. Love all the detailed instructions that Patty is sharing.
Thank you so much Kellie!!
Thank you for the great tutorial! I have used crackle medium a long time ago, so this was a very informative and useful refresher for me 🙂

Nevermind u answered my question in the video thank u so much
We love when that happens!!
Do you have to use a dark base and lite color on top or can u use a lite color as base and dark on top
Really enjoying this video. I painted a wooden box and applied a different crackle that didn"t work.
Can I use the same project and just paint over and re=apply Deco Art wood medium?
Thanks for watching!! Sand the project first, and you can start over. 😉
I used this product for the first time this Christmas making a gift for my son and his fiance. I had to play with it a bit and I looked for a tutorial here on youtube, but for some reason yours wasn't recommended, which is annoying. The project would have been so much easier with this information. It was so fun and I can't wait to use it on another project. Your video was so helpful. I bookmarked it and saved it to a playlist so I would never lose it. I do have one dual suggestion: First each technique needs a name when you are teaching us that is simple and second, that technique should maybe be on one corner of the samples to remind us. I kept getting confused. THANKS AGAIN!
Hi Gin! So glad you found us (eventually)! Thank you for the feedback! We aren't able to change the video that has already been uploaded, but we will definitely remember that for future filmings! Happy painting!
Hi I’ve never done crackle but I’d like to do my wooden table and chairs using dark plum chalk paint (small or medium cracks) please can you advise me on which crackle liquid or liquids I need ,brushes, and will I need to wax or seal after all advice welcome thank you x
Great info! I have a question….. do you need to seal in the end or can you leave it as is? Will it flake off?
You can seal over it, but you don't have to. To quote Patty, "It is stuck for good". She says it will not reactivate.
Great video, but I have a question. I want to do multiple layers of cracked paint on top of each other. Is that possible? Do I just repeat the same steps as each layer dries completely? TIA
Hi! Yes! You can definitely do that. Check out this video. Patty shows how to do that :) ua-cam.com/video/23oCJFXPbKU/v-deo.html
So interesting, how do you clean that crackle out of the brushes.
Hi Patty!! You can rinse the brushes in water. If the brushes are not made of foam, you can use soapy water. Hope that helps!! 🌻
@@StudioR12Stencils thank you
How do you clean out the crackle out of your brush?
Thanks for asking! We just use water for foam brushes and tools. If you're using a regular paint brush you can use soapy water.
How does one apply the crackle medium on a painting? Will the black paint effect the painting?
Hi there! In this video, we show how to basecoat, apply the crackle medium and how to basecoat over the crackle medium. We also show how the black come through the crackle medium.
Where's the link for this product?
Hi Patty! Here is the link to the crackle medium: studior12.com/collections/newest-products/products/weathered-wood-mdms103?_pos=1&_sid=3fd239423&_ss=r
Can you airbrush over the crackle?
Hi Milan and thanks for asking! You can definitely paint over the crackle, Patty goes into detail about this at the time mark 13minute20seconds (13:20).
@@StudioR12Stencils thank you
@@milanpainting You're welcome!!
Can I crackle over a painted item
Yes, that shouldn't be a problem. You can use acrylic paint for the basecoat, but to make the crackle, we recommend using the same brand of paint as your crackle medium. We use DecoArt's Weathered Wood for the medium and their paint for the overcoat.
Unfortunately it was nearly impossible to see the results of the crackling as the camera needed to zoom in to be able to see them. Also, perhaps black boards on a black mat isn’t the best option to be able to focus on. Otherwise the instruction was great!
Hi! Thank you for your input! We have several crackle videos in a playlist. Hopefully you find one of those does a better job of showing the crackle. How to Use Crackle Medium to Paint Furniture and Signs - Goof Proof Lessons for DIY, Cracked, Aged, Distressed Affects - by StudioR12 Stencils

Good info. Thank you.
Bad camera angle.
Hi Maryka! Thank you for your comment! We will chat with our video crew about camera angles for projects like this in the future!
Mine doesn’t crackle, have tried several ways
What brand of paint are you using and what brand of crackle medium are you using?
I have seen people use glue, have you tried that?
We have not tried that yet. We plan to do more of these with different mediums and have been doing lots of research. We also saw someone use glue!
Or just use pva adhesive and save a ton of money
Thanks for the tip!!
Great video!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
