    for valk, theres a tendency for newer/lower ranking players to immediately fly up when ulting even when the enemy team has multiple hitscans. thats an option if you need to get away quickly but people tend to forget that using valk on the ground is just as good too. the amount of times i've seen other mercys use valk, fly up into the air and immediately die to a good hitscan player is too much lol

      Thissss! I've used valk to get to an extended ally playing aggressive by using ga before valk which resets the CD and lets me get to them way faster. Also have used it rushing into a doorway and using the small space and wings on the ground to cover a squishy ally I might not be able to heal through the damage they're taking

    For bodyblocking if you are not valk it could be good to open your wings with angelic descent if you can to have your wings cover your teammate (this is niche upon niche)

    5:55 This doesn’t get said nearly enough IMO. I think it’s really easy to watch T500 Mercy players and conclude that they made a single decision to pocket X hero and stuck with it for the majority of the round, when it’s actually a lot of consciously deciding that staying with the pocket is higher value than doing something else. The idea that Mercy should be a pocket-bot is *heavily* reinforced by the larger OW community, and I think it contributes to the idea that Mercy has low agency as a hero. People play her in a really limited way that puts a huge amount of pressure onto a single teammate to really punch above their weight, which obviously is gonna have inconsistent results that the Mercy has no control over.
    (Similar deal with other supports I think-there’s a big difference between actively choosing to delay/forgo healing and deal damage instead vs failing to notice that there’s an opportunity for healing. But I feel that the “Mercy is for blue beam/pocketing DPS!!” screaming tends to be a bit louder than the “do more damage on support!!” crowd.)

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому +1

      yes! I also think the narrative re: doing more damage as support is more consistently nuanced. there seems to be a lot of people who talk about doing damage as part of always doing something to contribute to the team because healing when people don't need it isn't contributing anything.
      whereas the popular narrative around mercy is dumb people just parroting "stand behind dps and hold down m2" which is a gross oversimplification of Mercy which borders on outright ignorance. people refuse to accept that playing support is about supporting the TEAM. high level Mercys hard pocket their sojourn because protecting and boosting their sojourn is the best way for them to contribute to the team MOST but not even close to all of the time. this is not always going to be true in lower ranks. the dps do need help, but sometimes the tank will be the best place to invest resources. pocketing your Moira through ult will be more valuable than just staying with someone else. and on and on.
      the good news is that there ARE a lot of people who either do understand Mercy or at least understand that they don't understand all the nuances. I get a lot of good feedback from tank and dps teammates in gold 1, which I think is less of a reflection on my personal contributions (although of course I do try my best!) and instead on my teammates understanding that just because Mercy doesn't show up in the kill feed doesn't mean a Mercy player isn't having a lot of impact. I say this as a Mercy player who MAYBE gets one pistol elim per match lol so it's not like I'm going crazy and getting three every team fight and having very visible impact haha

I've heard good things about awkward's and yeatle's content too. emongg does spectating videos which aren't designed to be explicitly educational but they're very enjoyable and have definitely also helped me a lot. he doesn't roast anyone, just in case that's a worry. he's very kind and supportive to everyone.

    omg you have spoken what I have been thinking about my own gameplay! I'm an experienced mercy player with 3k hours on her and I find myself just playing way too safe and refusing to risk any positioning for my teammates, and when I realize that problem I start getting anxious and put myself in bad positioning in game where I put myself in too much danger to compensate (and then die for it). Sure I have very low deaths overall (1.5/10 min below high master and 2.5/10 in gm/t500 games) but I'm beginning to realize maybe I can improve my positioning to be both safe AND useful, and then maybe I will increase my winrate.

For the beam linger: its so hard to know when i can still fly to my ally through wall cause the ga lockdown. i notice the ga no lockdown in valk but is it NO LOCKDOWN, or less lockdown?

    • @SylveowNa
      @SylveowNa Рік тому +1

      I constantly flick my camera around back and forth from the fight to alternate entrances to check for flanking hero’s/teammates to keep track of their position. Since you don’t have to look at the target you’re beaming, you are the best person to warn your team from a lot of things they won’t be able to notice. It’s good to keep alternating between looking around you and looking back at the direction of the fight/whoever you’re beaming on.
      You’re looking around with intention.

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому

      don't wait to notice something is wrong! because by the time you do notice, it might be too late to take action. you don't need to be constantly spinning around, just take a quick peek around at the various places where a flanker might come from (or, you know, a heckin Reinhardt who's decided a flank shatter is a great idea lol) and then keep an eye on your team. by checking for any nonsense around you, you ARE looking with intention - your intention is to look at places where your teammates are unable to actively check.
      and I THINK there is less lockdown in valk instead of none, but I could be wrong.
      the timing will come!! it's just a matter of practice and learning the feel of it. and honestly, what I have done is just try not to rely on using beam targets I can't see as anchors for super jumps. I'm not quite confident on the timing of the linger, and I've fallen off too many maps trying to be cheeky and prop bounce off the side of the map for various reasons lol so I'm just focusing on positioning so I rarely need to do anything fancy.

    • @duongnguyen-s1i
      @duongnguyen-s1i Рік тому

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому

      @@duongnguyen-s1i what I mean by not relying on beam targets I can't see is, if I can't see my beam target, I'm not going to do anything. let me give you an example because I'm struggling to find the exact words to explain what I mean.
      there are some mercy players who will intentionally jump off the map while beaming someone and then prop bounce to keep peeking their target but staying mostly out of sight of enemies. if you're not aware, a prop bounce is basically a super jump (check out niandra's video on super jump techs).
      but because I am not confident with the exact timing for how long the beam connection lingers, I don't do this because I'm afraid I'll get it wrong and then fall to my death lol
      hopefully that makes more sense?

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому

Should I be spamming just GA more often or should I stop using GA with the jump ability. Like idk when to just GA or GA +A boost or GA + B jump. Its really confusing me alot and my movement is so sloppy that I feel really shitty when my team loses cuz I wasn't as good as the other team's insane Mercy...

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope Рік тому +2

      comfort with GA will come with time. it's just a matter of playing and building that experience. personally, I also like playing Mercy parkour, which you can find in the custom games. people make courses and put Mercy bots to give you GA targets and the goal is to get to the end. it's very helpful for letting you practice and build muscle memory without the pressure of a match. just throw on some music or a podcast or something and do some mercy parkour consistently and you'll see your movement improve!
      it's also important to remember that high rank mercy players have hundreds or thousands of hours on the hero. it takes time. you're learning right now, and you just gotta be patient with yourself. keep watching niandra guides and practicing and you'll improve :)

      It has nothing to do with what your team mates are doing. Your team mates are technically your competitors. Its about learning how to adapt to your team mates and the enemies. It’s situational though but that’s part of improving your game sense and that comes with practice and time. Carrying on Mercy is hard but possible. What I look for is the micro decisions made in high level Mercy player videos. I also watch replays to see what I could have improved on and watch in both enemy and team mates. I wanna see what they are thinking as a player, if I could have helped them more or there wasn’t much to do, how did this person kill could I have seen it coming ? Maybe you got away with some risky rezes in gold but you’re now mid plat and you’re dying instead.
