Don't quote me on this as I've only seen it on a single short previously, but apparently the original plan for Doom Eternal's post-launch DLC would have been a prequel story telling the invasion of Earth by Hell, where you would have played as rather Samuel Hayden or a random UAC marine. The gameplay would have been completely original and unique from the main game, which would have been awesome to play, but due to budgetary and time constraints it was scrapped in favor of The Ancient Gods because they didn't have to make a completely new combat system for a single DLC. (I realize now that that's basically what the short was. My information retention is getting weird, I thought this was a different short.)
Remember how in the first gameplay reveal Marty said "you've been *ACTIVATED* to do one thing: kill demons"? Maybe that concept was still on the table at that time 😮
The Slayer is still technically "activated" in the final product, they were likely still transitioning into the Slayer story during that time in development
I think we should play a campaign set between 4 & eternal. Where we fight on earth as the Doom 3 marine and try to help Hayden and Dr. McNeil slow the invasion till Doom slayer arrives.
I knew about the "Call of Doom" era of Doom 4, but had no idea they would turn Doom Guy into El Donte from DmC. Also these earlier logos looked awful, thank god they went with the modernized classic look
To be fair, those images being "uncharacteristic" is depending on what it'd be like if the game was out, and the fact that Doomguy was meant to be a blank slate. The Doomslayer partially exists because of the fanbase. Though the super soldier background does include him being a cyborg apparently and that would make the Master Chief comparisons even worse lol.

It would be better if the slayer was in the background for that game. The slayer teaming up with a survivor just doesn't suit the slayer. As you traverse through levels, the slayer goes through some of the back grounds killing demons, Maybe clearing heavily infested areas before you go traverse through them. But keeping the slayer out of close up sight would be better
@@Conflict1922 While that's absolutely a viable solution, I think it causes some problems as well. I'm glad they went with menacing, stoic and broodingly pissed off for Doomguy, it works so well. Like the scene where he walks through the base with all the other people around and they just get the hell out of the way.
Honestly this would be a fun premise as a random marine that *wants* to be like the slayer but is an unintentional parody instead, some random marine encountered the Slayer and wanted to take his moniker to make himself feel unstoppable. The caveat would be the game plays nothing like Doom cause this is just a regular Marine fighting demons in a Slayer cosplay, so it's a lot harder and requires a lot of shenanigans to take down some of the larger demons like using the environment.
I think removing the Slayer entirely would be necessary for the normal marine/survivor concept to truly work. There's nothing out there to save humanity, no one to swoop in and save you at the last minute, just you and what's left of the world
Honestly a short, maybe 1-2 hour long DLC where you play as a survivor witnessing Doom Guy’s rampage on Earth while trying to survive would’ve been sick
