nice video Dad..! how do you measure the hertz? do you touch the belts, like a guitar string, so they can generate a wave? sorry about my ignorance on this, but I´m about to replace my belts. thank you ...!
Without the tool to free the cams pulleys I think you may get a different tension in between them compared to the tension between the crankshaft and them 😢
And how would that? Cause you measure after rotating with a hertz meter. And every rotation you will measure a lower or more hertz. As long as it is between 100 and 110 hz
@@TheGrimmReaper1 well, think about it, the wheels have teeth, so does the belt, so the tension will differ if the wheels are fixed, no matter how much you tension the belt, between the cam wheels you will have fixed different tension because of the teeth, if the wheels are free, they can even out when you rotate the engine, they wouldn't go to so much trouble allowing you to have the cam wheels free while fixing the cams, to me it makes perfect sense
To be on the save side yes. But i can do it also without the cranktool. As long as you mark them like i showed. There is absolute no problem. If the markings are on the same spot while taking the old of and placing the new ones. You are good to go. 😁😁
what is the angle that you left example the horizontal cylinder is at 3 o'clock and the vertical for the video you left in 5 hours approximately that's it, Thanks, I have a 848 year 2010 and I'm having trouble getting it right
The program i use is from jp diag. Search it and download it. Microphone i use is specialy for mhz . But any good microphone will do, even a program for mhz measurement on your mobile works. With the build in mic from your phone. Hope it helps you. Below the link. jpdiag.akress.com/
When you have marked the camshafts and crankshaft before you took the old belts of. And everything comes back on the markings after manually turning the engine( put it in 5 or 6 gear and turn the wheel. ). What you already did when checking if the hz of the belts stay between 100 an 110. Then ot runs like before. 😁
@@TheGrimmReaper1 thanks so much. I did that of the marks. Then measure the Hz at 90+/-5 as it is a 1262 and that is what the book say. Then I turned the crank several times and all good. Now the marks are everywhere and the tension change depending on the angle. I will do the 5th or 6th gear to rotate it easier and just keep checking all is good. Best regards. What is your Facebook?
Hi. Is safe to say that if the motor spins freely is time ok? I just want to make sure . I rotated the motor manually several times and good. Next is to start it. Thanks
Well done, and dealers charge how much?? I just bought an 1198sp with 15k on it so belts and valve adjustment is my next project. Appreciate your video.
Thx 😁 price here for a belt change about 450 and 650 euro. . As a former car mechanic i did it myself. On the easiest way i could think of. used oem ducati belts about 80 euro per belt. I used oem because of the tension in hz . As i wrote between 100 and 110 hz. When fitted rotate a view times and measure again. Of it stays within 100 and 110 hz youre good to go for a view years.
Not used. No point in doing that. Waiste of money. Basicly you can change the belt without the tools. Just mark them out. Camshaft timing i only do when i removed the camshafts or place new camshafts to time them with the special tools. When they are timed previous with new belts . There is no point on doing it again when changing the belt. Timing wise nothing has changed!!
Aha figured that out. If you follow the video its possible even for a noob to do it. Not point in marking the belts . Just mark the camschafts as shown. And the timingshaft as shown. Before you remove the belts. . Put new belts on and make sure the markings you have set are the same as you have taken them of. . Only thing to do then is use a hertz app on your mobile phone ans set the tension of the belts to 100 to 110 hertz not lower and not higher. Everthing in between is just fine. Good luck 😁😁😁
@@TheGrimmReaper1 man I’m sorry I thought you were German 😂 I don’t know why but it seemed to me like you were one of my Sith 🫡 Thanks for the quick response. I’ll do my best to make it work. If it’s not working I need a new bike I guess 🫣
I really cannot see the point in these speeded up videos. People want to learn how to do these jobs properly. No way could this be useful to anyone about to tackle this job on their bike
If you have the slightest idea of timing you do. If not dont touch it. Really bad idea. Btw it shows the markings . And, hey pausing might help. I can make a hour long video if you want. Lolzss 😁😆😁
I actually seek out sped-up vids like this. I don't need an hour to learn something I can figure out myself for the most part if I can just see it done.
I agree with Ducati Dad. I spent a lot of time researching mis information and the positive stories like this are what build confidence in tackling a job like this on your own. It might not be the premium 100% proven method but it will work for the 99% without all the ducati special tools, and providing timing on cam sprockets was previously near perfect or little wear.

What do you mean with freeing the camshaft pulleys? I hope not the 3 bolts of the camshaft .
Thanks for the video, quick question. Did you take out the plugs or just put in 6th gear and use the tire to rotate the engine?
Both ways are possible. I did it in 6th but without plugs its easier!
This is an amazingly helpful video thank you...crank tool was really necessary?

do you have the reding to in put to tensioner tester tool Mass Span and Width? thanks
Those bikes are set with hertz. Easy to do even with hertz meter on your phone. . Tension tester is not used with 848/1098/1198.
thank you
