  • Have you been thinking about replacing the timing belts on your ducati, don’t risk it and do it yourself. I am not expert but if I can do it you can do it too.

I picked up a 696 a month ago and just ordered the belts plugs and filters. Thanks for sharing this. Great details and camera angles 👍🏼

Please ride the bike then do a follow up video and show how to make adjustments. I know the cam pulleys are adjudtable but an explanation video would be very usefull. I know some people loosen them when doing the belts. That would be great to cover aswell. Keep it up the 696 videos are very useful . Layshaft seal may be in your future i see. Another good video idea. I also haveto do mine so it would be very usefull😂

Great video, thanks for sharing 😊, I would have changed the tensioners though, Best to be safe than sorry. I know they would most likely be ok but i just couldn't take the risk. 😊

Great video but I have one question how much torque on the timing belt tensioner.
I cannot find it anywhere ?

I think I mentioned it in the video, hopefully. I have seen manuals with different numbers bit all close between 22-26 NM.

when do we need to replace the tensioners? cause in the ducati service center when you get the belt replaced they also replace the tensioners.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea because you are already there.
Looking at the book Ducati refers to them as timing pulleys or spur gears. I do not see any specifications. I don’t think it is required on every timing belt change but I would check them to see if the have any friction to it and if not try to change them the next time.

I wouldn't take any chances, I would replace the tensioners... Every car i have had you change the tensioner roller, why wouldn't you on your Ducati?, it would be very costly otherwise. is it worth the risk?.

You can do it of course. I don’t think you need to it every 7k miles but if you can afford it by any means is probably the best.

Hey, question. Do I have to change the tension rollers with the belts or just belts.
    If yes, why?
    Thank you

It depends. Since the intervals on these bikes is short. Yo are okay reusing the rollers. At the very least try to move them by hand to see if they roll without too much resistance.
If they are dragging or requieres too much force to move them change them.
I am giving you this answer without knowing the biles of your bike, but normally you don’t have to change the rollers with every belt replacement.
      Be safe!!

Hi! On how many km this should be done?

    • @ToModorNottoMod

I temember that back in the day I when I got my first Ducati the replacement was at 7500 miles. But I am now looking at the Manual and it says.
      - Check Tension every 12 months or 7500 miles or 12 kms
      - Renew Timing Belts - Every 2 years or 15k miles or 24 kms.
      Hope that helps!

Thats an oil pressure switch not a crank sensor, crank sensor is on the left side of the engine

Not sure if it’s true but I over heard that you can use the 5mm Allen keys on the Horizontal Cylinder but 6mm on the Vertical one ☝️ due to the vertical one runs hotter . Thoughts ?

Yes, that is the method that I have used all my life with good results.

@ I just doubled check on “Workshop Repair Manual “ The Timing belt tensioning DDS 140±5 Hz (horizontal)
140±5 Hz (vertical) will be the same from 09-14 Monster 696 . Thanks 😊 thus 5mm Allen keys will be using on both cylinders .
