So many hip fans talk about how their old stuff is so much better, but I think that, for the most part, it's their own nostalgia speaking......I'm in my mid thirties and have been a fan since "up to here" ..all I can say is that I listen to their last four albums now way more often than the older stuff....sure, the new albums may not be as immediately gratifying, but once they hit you it's all over....you're hooked for life.
I also live in Wisconsin. Seen the Hip @ Summerfest '06, in Chicago in '99 and '03. Longtime fan, but nobody I know gives them a chance. Also love the music of several other CDN bands; Matthew Good, the Watchmen, IME, too many more to mention.
My kids say "oh no, The Hip againg!!" I say yes, and when you are old enuf to go to one of their concerts, you are gonna have a fucking blast...and guess what else...you will know every last word to their songs...because..because The Hip rock.
ur forgetting one very underrated band that is also a one-hit wonder, they are called Sandbox (who opened up for the Hip in 1992), You make also be surprized to know that Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys was the guitar player for that band
Easy. The band that has had more success both domestically and abroad than any other band you just mentioned...the band that's 4th in all time RIAA certified consecutive gold records...the band that's still making innovative rock after 34 years and selling out arenas across the world...the band that's influenced almost every Canadian act after them. I absolutely LOVE The Hip, but Rush is in a league of their own.
Your so lucky yootoob975. i wish that i had tickets to one of the shows in Winnipeg. Me and my friends dicussed going but they backed out so now i have no ride into the city. Im very dissapointed!
george runs good interviews, i like it lol "semi-literate lyrics" "slowdance with you XD" "lo and behold... lo and behold..." go gordie go! love the hip!!!
if i rem somewhat correctly....b4 the release of World Container, Gord an ze boys decided to spend some time together at the Bathouse in ON to hang together cause they found they'd kinda drifted a bit. I'd have to say seeing them, watching interviews an such that they're tight
As an American, I've always wondered about the Canadian fascination with the name Gordon. Is it because of Gordie Howe, the great hockey player? Just curious.
I love this version of In View, i cannot stand the one on the album though. And its only because of that main riff on the piano. Cant stand it. I like it here though.

"Lo and behold"
i think its the new pornographers, its the old intro that strombo used to use for the show, now he used "Good In Everyone" by Sloan
3 things that Canada has that the Yanks will never have: Don Cherry, Trailer Park Boys, and of course THE TRAGICALLY HIP!
ROFL
"what choo talkin bout, Strombo?"
As an American, I've always wondered about the Canadian fascination with the name Gordon. Is it because of Gordie Howe, the great hockey player? Just curious.
It's Jim Gordon, from Batman.
No, that'd be Rush. Gord has said it himself.
