    Loved the Hip up to In Violet Light, their last truly awesome record. Then I got into Gord Downie's solo stuff and there are some underrated gems in that bunch of songs. "Vancouver Divorce" is a masterpiece.

    this intvw is when I started to respect The Tragically Hip, their music (World Container) and Gord's everyday views of being a citizen of this Small Blue Ball / 3rd Rock from the Sun; water rights.
    this album made me look forward in the past to listen again to their music.

    Funny how this came up as suggested video after watching Neil Pearts interview. It's amazing how they aren't the same, but they are the same type of person. Not sure if they ever got to hang out together, but to be a fly on the wall at that. Wow!

    I'm not too familiar with their music - but wow that song Courage (for Hugh MacLennan) is a really great tune. I first heard Sarah Polley's haunting version from one of my favorite movies: The Sweet Hereafter - but their version the fantastic as well. I have to get more of their stuff. . .

    From Strombo’s soul patch to Gord’s patrol cap, everything about this video screams the Aughts. If anyone wants to dress up like a War-on-Terror-era meathead for Halloween, just show them this.

    Interesting how Gordie says we meaning his band mates and he needs to be better friends. With bands the work and the process of putting out each album, makes friend ship fades away.

    The “mundane and technical” act of giving up smoking is a plus… With certain kinds of cancer, you have a roughly 30% better chance of pulling through healthy if you have never smoked… yet many in older generations have?

    RIP Gord and George Snuffalopicus is an obsequious suck up in interviews . He can never ask an uncomfortable question to provoke his guest to get something more introspective from his guests but he does do his home work

      you mean between george and Gord really dont like each other.. i sense same, Why would George assume Gord would get sick of hearing his music? what a hater.

    • @bradmiller528
      @bradmiller528 7 років тому

      Mick Funz For instance Gord looks George right in the eye and says "we're not friends anymore" and George blindly asks, when did it stop being friends and Gord asks, you mean between you and I? George completely avoids engaging the question.
      So am I a bad judge? Sounds pretty clear there was some tension between those two.

    • @Funz2022
      @Funz2022 7 років тому +2

      Ha ha, they don't bring it up cause it's NOT TRUE Brad, they're friends, talking. Did you watch the rest of the interview & see Gord genuinely engage himself with George & talk like old friends? They're talking very familiarly & comfortably & Gord is very low-key, you're misreading the tone here man

    I thought World Container was a somewhat contrived album… but the change in production and writing style could not ruin the excellent creative impulses of the band… Bob Rock tends to make bands accessible by making them a little generic and boring. Chris Tsangarides the same.

    2006 and Canada was already going downhill. It’s sad to lose a real voice for Canadians.
