I'll never forget listening to "Up to here" on a school bus on cassette in 1990 and a fellow student chastise me, for listening to "country music" upon hearing a bar of 38yrs.old... and I recall telling him; you can't NOT appreciate the hip, and still be Canadian! Love the guys to this day! Gord's a legend:)
This is fucking awesome! The Tragically are my favourite band! Seen them 25 times live! Long live the Hip and R.I.P. Gord Downie. You were a poet, musical genius and an amazing human being! You have influenced my life and have become a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. Great documentary!
They should have a class in grade 11 and 12 you take in Canadian highschools and it's called Gord 101. Canadian history. Each albums a chapter. You would learn a ton.
Gordie - you made so many people happy with your music and your performances. Thanks for your Courage. We loved you here in the USA!!! God Bless you. You were special.
@@paulagwhyte1720 he was blessed in sooo many of ways , death comes knocking on all of our doors, god bless him and his family and all the music he have to the world !
It goes without saying that Tragically Hip was something special, but Gord Downie was a wonderful human being. I am sad that he died from brain cancer, the same cancer that killed my 60-year-old brother. It makes me angry that here in the UK the funding to find a cure for brain cancer is so very low, and yet, it kills many children as well as adults. Anyway, I never got to see or meet Gord Downie, it was my partner who mentioned him to me, and that made me seek out information and listen to the band. Five years or so on from Gord's passing, he is still attracting admirers, and I am proud to say I am one of them.
When I need motivation.. I listen to one of your songs, listen closely to the lyrics.. actually poetry to me.. Thank You Mr. Gord Downie.. for giving me COURAGE!!❤️
He’s so amazing. His words so comforting and Canadian. He’s helped me through some of the darkest times and for that I idolize this man. Always will. RIP Gord u will always be in my heart.
It seems so ironic that he helped out so many children and donated his time and love and then ends up with friggin cancer himself. Don’t understand this crazy world sometimes. And just goes to show that we don’t know our destination. God bless your talented soul.
@@MathieuLLF No, realistic. I get tired of god nonsense. Gord was good and a huge talent because he was good and a huge talent. Gord gets the credit. Obviously, if there were a god, it didn't bless him in the first place then why did he get cancer? He got cancer because cancer exists. And it's not fucking fair.
Thanks so much for posting this. I have always enjoyed The Hip's music but didn't fully appreciate the man that was Gord Downie. Every clip is an absolute gem. Brings me to tears thinking he is no longer among us.
Yes what an artiste this guy...sad end ! My heart is broken....karma ...life... Crédits also to all the band...you guys make the power support...shi guys you ROCK !

yes, I too am thankful that Gord died peacefully. Rock n Troll, you are most certainly not. Ive had three bonfires where I played nothing but Hip songs. cried, laughed, danced, cried some more...Watch the interview with Gords brothers given two days after he passed. unless you are a stone, you will cry
This is great. Im always interested in the democratic nature of songwriting credits to every member. If it works it works but I cant help but wonder what happens when a member won't contribute anything or you create an obligation to a member to contribute something and you have to use something bad that everyone hates to be democratic. Thats not an easy thing to do. I was always amazed at how many obnoxious narcissists Muchmusic seemed to attract as VJ/hosts. That Asian girl always seemed to be anger smoldering underneath a hundred false pleasantries. With her hunched up shoulders and swingy arms. However the guy at 15:00 really got under my skin for some reason. Perpetually smiling, glib phoniness. Always thought he wasnt hooked up right. Erika Ehm dont even get me started. Christopher Ward was at least tolerable. Like a Paul Schaffer with long hair.
If you listen to any song, everyone contributed their part. As far as lyrics, I'm sure Gord had the final say. The giving of credit to everyone in the band for writing the song just means that the extra money from songwriting gets split evenly, as opposed to one person getting all the extra money and thus making way more than the others. This just leads to division, unless you are Queen and everyone writes songs. Billy Corgan talks to Joe Rogan about this, and wishes he had been democratic about it, but his ego wouldn't let him and thus didn't talk to his band mates for years after. In the end, everyone in the Hip made a very comfortable living and I doubt for one minute that Gord had wished he had more money than he already had. They were like family.

What a beautiful human being. Still missing you each day; getting through this thing called life through your music and words. Rest in Peace.

There was no god to bless him, obviously. He was a huge talent and the credit is hit. Cancer is random and no god tried to help him then.
