The man's music is a gift to the world. Accept it for just that. He is right up there with Elton John and Billy Joel as one of the most PASSIONATE song writers and performers of all time. J.J.
The words, the music, the wisdom.. all put together in ever beautiful way by this young musician then..reflecting the confusion of the young against the time and life. wonder peace of lyric and music
This is such a superb example of why he is so highly regarded... The audience isn't coming to be entertained, in his world... they are friends to him, I think... nothing "airbrushed" or lip-synced. He can actually DO this stuff.
was blessed with tickets for this show in Jan-76. My bro bought them as a baby shower gift.. Well, I did it! I went to concert 3 days after my 1st son was born.. I will always remember. Best i had ever been to.
Never saw him in concert although I would have loved too. I'm 51 too and seeing this for the first time takes me back to some great memories and music!
The passion he had back then! I miss it so much. It's funny but I think that he couldn't handle how much he shined with his "God" power back then. Look at him. Listen to his unique voice and talent. It's hard to miss it. He really had something powerful coming through him. He will never touch me in quite the same way, now that that spark is smothered. And so many could see it too! He touched more than he knew. Love came through. It always does. In spite of his own blindness at the time.
i've been in love with this song for the last couple of months now - been a while since I've heard it but it's my new favourite. this and Can't Keep It In. thanks for posting
mystick: Whether drugs were involved in Kat's transformation of life for the better, matters not. The point is, he made a transition for good & set a great example to emulate for those with similar problems. He has moved closer to God & things of the spirit thru sincere repentance and obedience. Life & things have so much more meaning and value when sacrifice & commitment is involved. I appreciate the man Yusuf, that Kat has become, while still enjoying the man that he once was. Kat Stevens.
What a story there is to this Cat. Check out his Wiki page, what a talent. I adored him back in this time. Can't say I care for his recent (2008) stuff. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for all musican-artists as they age. If you don't know it - you should check out the foreigner suite.
mystickpluck8: I appreciate that Kat Stevens (can't remember his Islamic name) has turned his life to his God and religion and become a spiritual being. There's a lot of sacrifice and self control involved in this transformation, and that's a good thing. On the other hand, to me, there's been only ONE Kat all these years. I still love Steven's songs, so unique, powerful and meaningful and that neat voice. I've missed him as a great soulful singer and musician. Love live the KAT!
After listening to everything I could find from this concert on UA-cam I did order Majicat from Amazon last night. I can hardly wait until it gets here!
This is from the BBC Crown Jewels series. If you have the BBC channel, check from time to time to see if it is playing. There was a period in which it played at least once a week for a few months so I recorded it on my DVR. Really a great show. Too bad I switched t.v. services and lost the whole thing.
Beautiful song, brilliant man ... I read somewhere that this song was about a woman but IMHO the lyrics seem to be more about the search for enlightenment (wishing ... to be free of going round and round) and the struggle with ennui (bitterblue) kwim? ;)
Yea, it was on BBC Crown Jewels. I don't know, they may have a best of Crown Jewels DVD or maybe one for just this show. If not, you can do what I did. If you have VH1 Classic (the channel) and some DVR system, just record it. It is on a lot. lol
People in other videos on utube say that person with the curly hair is jimmi hendrix but i find that hard to believe as jimmi left us in 1970 and i think this was done much later
I agree with your evaluation but where did you get the idea that the industry tried to ban his music? I've never heard Yusuf say that in any of his interviews.
I'm so sad that we lost such a great singer/songwriter to religion. i dont care that we lost him to islam. just the fact that we lost him to a religion is sad. but at least he didnt write any islamic music like bob dylan wrote shitty gospel christian songs. i'm so glad dylan changed his mind on religion

I was in love with Cat at age 16.. just memorized....it was a nice walk down memory lane....i am 50 now.
The words, the music, the wisdom.. all put together in ever beautiful way by this young musician then..reflecting the confusion of the young against the time and life.
wonder peace of lyric and music
he said : I wote it...I wrote it !! Awesome, beautiful, the one , a star in the world
This is such a superb example of why he is so highly regarded... The audience isn't coming to be entertained, in his world... they are friends to him, I think... nothing "airbrushed" or lip-synced. He can actually DO this stuff.
we need to keep his music alive....i know i will
true inspiration
every time i hear him i am filled with love!
He was serious with great personality, and he becomes more serious this time. He's just extraordinary.
Life is best when seen thru the eyes of a poet.

Never saw him in concert although I would have loved too. I'm 51 too and seeing this for the first time takes me back to some great memories and music!

Music straight from Heaven
Exactly!! And he has so emotive voice...
The song is from the 1972 Number 1 album 'Teaser and the Firecat'...
Yes:-) I share your feeling. He was very handsome. And now he has still charisma. Amazing and very wise man.

Sometimes people have to lay off the metallica and pearl jam types and listen to Cat Sevens.
Thanks for some great posts!! This is awesome stuff!!!

Really a great show. Too bad I switched t.v. services and lost the whole thing.
The album version I recall is pretty powerful...if heard on a powerful sound system as I did hear it around 1970 in SEA.
He'll always remains Cat Stevens to his fans as his music and songwriting a are timeless gifts.
Bravo though not as familiar with this song.
continue to inspire people in your life till you meet God.
Beautiful song, brilliant man ...
I read somewhere that this song was about a woman but IMHO the lyrics seem to be more about the search for enlightenment (wishing ... to be free of going round and round) and the struggle with ennui (bitterblue) kwim? ;)

Happy Birthday, on 21st July, Yusuf (aka.,C.S, and SDG).
If you have VH1classics, its shown on "classic concerts"...and if you have a dvr record it and do not delete like I have and regret it still.
@skatewidow He married and is Muslim
