I'm a professional trailbuilder and here are some commonly overlooked tools. Sledgehammer; for smashing apart rocks rocks too big to move and compacting soil in tight spaces like posts and in between rocks of rock gardens. Bow rakes; albeit covered in the video but they can be used for tamping soil as well as using the backside of them to grade the trail surface. Pro tip, use the backside of a bow rack in rooty soil while moving material to avoid getting the tines snagged up with roots. Another pro tip is to wrap your bucket handles in a healthy amount of tape so they are actually comfortable to hold.

You missed two very neccessary tools for trail building: a mini-excavator and good buddies.

    Nicely put together video sir.
Definitely one of, if not the best presented lists I've seen in a long time.
The funk backing track was also super.

Sawzall with a limb trimming blade for trimming trees and cutting out roots.

You left out one very valuable tool. Your neighbors donkey. It can drag beams and logs better than most things and is easily coaxed into doing it with snacks.

Wow. I never realized that I literally have like 80% of these things. Looks like I’m building a trail!

This is great. I just started building a trail in my back yard for my 4 year old and I to ride.
Would love to see a ”how to design a jump” video

Not tools but things you should always have are a good pair of gloves and safety glasses/sunglasses.

If you like the machete try out an italian style roncola or manaresso, it works way much better on thickets (those are meant for that). A machete its more suitable for greener and softer stuff

The “Pulaski” in this video is actually a cutter mattock. Pulaskis have a smaller hoe coupled with an true axe blade opposite. Pulaskis are also distinguished by using a narrow axe handle, whereas the mattock has a thicker rounded handle.

Your Pawlowski is weird! I have a regular axhead with a 2 inch wide Mattoc that’s about 3 inches long. That Matic looks more like what you see on a pic Mattoc.

On your Troybilt tiller the bolt on the shift handle needs to be tightened up a bit if it’s moving on its own and dropping into reverse! Also the spring that keeps the reverse from contacting the pulley is likely missing or weak!

That rake is definitely underrated here. If you don't own a Mc Leod or a good machete the rake can do it all!

For screws, Robertson here in Canada are the best. They pretty much never strip. But they are almost impossible to get in the USA. Side note they were invented and manufactured here in Milton Ontario

If you can get your hands on one, a plate compactor makes quick work of turning loose, soft dirt into well-packed, durable trail, especially for public trails.
