I envy the dirt you can work with so much! In the terrain we have building jump trails in this style would never be possible. On the other side we have very steep terrain with a lot of natural rock features so everything comes with an upside and a downside. Keep up the good work.
Yeah I definitely got very lucky with my dirt! It’s perfect for shaping jumps due to the high sand clay mix that holds together well. I can drive 15 minutes out in the PNW to access rocks so we’re pretty lucky up here!
Where I live it's all SHALE and massive roots, it's so hard to dig and sift through. I mix sand into it and it helps a bit...a _bit._ Also my wheelbarrow is a POS, it'd probably help if I got a new one.
Great job man⚒️I am a professional Trailbuilder now in Southern Oregon place called Spence Mountain building bad ass trails like you but before I worked for these dudes I did the same thing you did and built like 8 miles in Central Oregon. Love your work keep it up!🌲🪵⚒️🪨⛰️🚵♀️
For trail sustainability you want triangulated sloping on your jumps and trannys to allow for sheeting off trail when it rains and you especially want to armor the bottoms of the jumps and trannies to avoid puddling and subsequent erosion. it's a bad practice to mine soil from the jumping area because when somebody cases it and eats shit they have a lot farther to fall. We use soil from trail building above us to build jumps because full wheelbarrows go down hill better.
I’m WA with the more consistent rainfall we don’t get much at a time. The dirt we have is good enough to dig around, and we also don’t have anybody riding here since it’s a private trail system
Hi! How you get to the lios of the jumps not get brake easily? Just compact the sand as can? Maybe using bags to get inside the sand and have more support? Thanks
Hi there! The dirt I am using has low sand concentration so it compacts very easily and hardens. I put a tarp to prevent excessive water on the lip if there is a big storm, but the process mainly just involves a lot of hand packing
Those trails are in your backyard??? WTF. Amazing work! We build all our trails by hand as well (except our DJ Line which had to be done within a weekend...). so I know how time consuming and hard this work is ... keep on digging! #nodignoride
Yea well in least he doesn’t have people destroying em on him while trying to build when it hard work and that what happened to me and that’s why I gave up building em.
Such nice job guys!! :D Thats what its all about, just do it! You are very skillful. Those wood features are spot on.. And those sieved sand surfaced kickers are smooth AF!! :D Just awesome!!
I did get fairly lucky with this dirt! Try looking around for pockets that may be easier to dig. Areas even a few feet away from each other may have very different dirt pockets.
Bro you have same type dirt as me, what size grate you use for screen to get rock out on wheel barrow? I got about 80 to 20 percent clay to dirt ratio 💯
Hey! Glad to hear you’ve also got great dirt! I prefer the 1/4 inch mesh for sifting. Makes it fairly easy to separate rocks but also gets anything sizeable out
Hey! What you see me doing when I get the smoother finish to the jumps is slap packing the dirt. After letting set for a few days and packing very hard, the dirt stays packed enough to where the tires will not sink in. After constant riding, the dirt will often get a "concrete" like appearance.
After about 3 years the last Keurig stopped working ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf initially was able to unblock, however eventually we couldn't fix. That one was a replacement unit sent by the manufacturer after we had problems with our very first Keurig. This works fine (lol, at least for now) however I didn't realize the water reservoir was so much smaller than our prior unit. With 2 people having one or two cups of coffee each morning, it seems like I'm refilling it daily. Otherwise just happy to have the convenience of pod coffee vs. making a morning pot.
This is on private land. Jumps get very little traffic because it’s only a few people riding, but enough to stay nice and hard. Should be protected for a long time!
Absolutely! A lot of our dirt is clay. It holds together much better than sand or duff but can be harder to work with. The digging definitely pays off though and you get super smooth and long lasting trails!
I usually build the jump first then clear the run in and run out. It is more helpful for me to gauge speed. It may not be apparent until the lip is partially stacked. Short answer is there's no real way to do it, just practice gets more precise views.
You’re building a mountain bike park not a mountain bike trail…. It’s just a buffed out, super wide, bike park jump line …. Do you ride back up the hill? Or do you have an E bike or a truck take you to the top again
oh my gosh, the fact that he is doing this by hand - ALONE is insane!!! you have so much skill
Thanks ! I appreciate it! I’ve had a bit of help, but it’s been a commitment because most features are built by myself. Glad you enjoyed it.

What kind of dirt is that?
Yk what kinda dirt I use
The dirt that’s already there 😂 I’m too broke to buy dirt
@@Xthyncyhe doesn’t buy it… he uses a mesh to filter out the chunks of roots, pebbles and whatever shouldn’t be there.
Probably a soil with high clay content
fr dude the dirt where my trail is has rock about 3-4 inches down making it super hard to dig. So I usually loosen it up with a pickaxe.
I love the passion man, you really can see it. A lot of people don't understand the hours it takes to build and dig the smallest features.
This man is really underrated and deserves so much more love

It is such a nice feeling when you make a good jump and trail
Shaping is just so satisfying 🤩
Sieving the dirt for the perfect surface for the perfect take off.

This kid is the Michaelangelo of trail building, and he really shreds.
Wish i was building stuff like this at that age. Great work to everyone involved!
Thank you for the compliments!
the soil is so good

Is that the Yu-Gi-Oh GX theme song? anyways i am so totally pumped am working on a park in Africa Malawi
I wish I had enough land to do this cause I would do this
Would these style of trails work for dirt biking as in like the dirt bike with an engine type of dirt bike
I'm no dirt bike expert, but I do think lips would not need to be as steep and certainly will need a larger radius
What mattock/pickaxe do you use? My spot is really rocky and i need recommendations on one.
I use the thick husky one. It’s strong and lasts a long time
@@trailreviews3628 Unfortunately they dont ship to sweden, gotta continue looking.
Where do you get all the dirt from?
How do you get your dirt texture like that?
I sift a lot of the top layer. For the lips, it gets all the rocks out and gives you the nice smooth appearance.
what is the shovel you use for packing in the jumps? ive been trying to find da good one for ages lol
I’m using the cheap Anvil ones for 10 dollars or so. I find they work better than the nicer ones. Feels smooth to pack with
I built a jump too but I don’t have enough dirt lol
What type of land did you build this on? Private or public? Hopefully the jumps are protected for a long time
This is on private land. Jumps get very little traffic because it’s only a few people riding, but enough to stay nice and hard. Should be protected for a long time!
yeah
We’re did u store all the wood since it all got taked
down
It all got removed and taken to a recycling facility. We didn’t have any space to put it unfortunately. I would have loved to build some urban kickers
epic man.. :-)
can someone please recommend a good shovel and mcleod? preferably quite cheap
I've always liked the $9 Anvil flat shovel and spade. I've cracked one, but 1 in 4 years is not bad with how hard I've abused them
What shovels are they?
do u build with rocks because im trying to build something like u :]
I don’t anymore! Features last much longer when they’re only dirt
Would dirt with a lot of clay be good for building trails?
Absolutely! A lot of our dirt is clay. It holds together much better than sand or duff but can be harder to work with. The digging definitely pays off though and you get super smooth and long lasting trails!
@@trailreviews3628 facts
How do you gauge how much of a gap to make vs. how big the jumps are? How do you get to the point where you know?

@@trailreviews3628 thanks!
Do you water down any jumps
In the summer, I usually run as much water as I can. It turns to dust fairly easily in the PNW
What dirt did u use to make this trail
That dirt tho
He’s lucky it’s a clay area. But still insane..
Do you mix the earth with sand?
Nope! Mostly just stick with clay and let it compact. I am very lucky with the dirt I have

Does It Help By Filtering The Dirt?
Yes, sifting the dirt is very useful to ensure a smoother riding surface. However it takes a lot more time and effort

It's good building when you have a sand.. no wet land and rocks..
Most of the dirt on this property is a mix of sand and clay. It works very well for what I build here
