    Back in the late 70s, I used to buy huge apple sized boxes of jewelry from a guy who only sourced the lot for gold and sold me the huge boxes full for $20. He got the jewelry in large bags from second-hand stores. I found Eisenberg, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, Coro, and much more such as long strands of faceted crystal beads, some of precious stones. I hate to say I chopped some up for crafts before I found out what I had. Luckily, I learned quickly. I ended up selling most of the more expensive brooches, not for what they were truly worth, but for a good amount. Oh, what I wouldn't give for one of those fabulous boxes today!
    Thank you for this and all of your videos. What memories!

    Hobé is the right way to write the name and the little diacritic mark over the 'e' means you say it like an 'a' --- so it's HoBAY. Boucher is BooSHAY.

    Thank you so much. 💖
    I appreciate content creators who are also sellers that take their precious time to research and make videos like this for us to learn together. I'm not a reseller, I just love collecting beautiful jewellery for now.
    It is great that everyone shares their knowledge, I love reading the positive comments.
    I live in Germany now and go to second hand shops and flea markets. I can now look out for special pieces if I find them in the wild. Fingers crossed. 🤞I can't afford the ebay price tags. Lol. Take good care. Look forward to your next video.

    I believe Grpoix is a technique used for producing the glass "stones", rather than a brand.

    • @leslieholland6477
      @leslieholland6477 10 місяців тому

      Maison Gripoix is indeed a source that made the stones for the likes of Chanel. So many people over use this term. Actual Gripoix should only be used to refer to designers who used their stones.

    Hi! I believe gripoix (grip-wah) is a type of poured glass method for the glass components of the brooch. They are characterized by the smooth surface. I don't think that yellow piece is marked Gripoix...must be another maker. But I may be wrong....
    Thanks for this video...I am always looking out for great brooches to flip but always hesitant of plunking down big money, especially if unmarked. A Shreiner piece is my holy grail!

    Traditionally, spray brooches consist of intricate floral designs, often mounted in the En Tremblant style. Spray brooches most frequently consist of a range of small diamonds or coloured gemstones, which are crafted to catch the light and create a sublime sparkle.

    Scottish connemara is usually the stone of choice, it's odd jade was used. But it can look like jade sometimes I wonder if it was correctly identified. For someone to sell for that price I would gather they know what they are doing. But it's unusual to see jade if it's a true Scottish piece.

    Without any disrespect: Brooches are another topic that LOOKS easy ; but is another "needle in a haystack" . You really need a lot of education to make big scores. Lots of trial and error . ALWAYS hard to look up comps. Very confusing with UNSIGNED pieces . It's like you need a year in Brooch College to even get a grip.

    Thanks so much for the Shout out Courtney--in the 2 hour Let's Talk About It Video--I actually go into deatil on the difference between Crown Trifari and Trifari. The Angele Fish Brooch at 19:15 is worth more--Alfred Phiilleppe WAS THE DESIGNER OF MONEY for Trifari and that Angelfish Brooch is a Jelly Belly and had they put that into the title it probaby would have sold for more. HOBE is pronouced HO BAY I believe--well that's how I pronouce it--and that's all that matters to me---LOL 😉🤫😁😍👩‍🌾

    In the case of the spray brooch, this means that the centre of the floral bouquet is attached to a small spring-like mechanism that allows the brooch to move slightly when worn.

    8:30 “if it isn’t signed, it isn’t Trifari“ … there’s a lot of internet data out there spamming the idea of unsigned Trifari, but that isn’t true to the brand. They did make a series where they haa Pat. Pending on the jewelry and this brooch has that marking 😊
    Possibly people say that they are unmarked to have their items sell whether intentionally misguiding or not.

    The long pin is just part of aging a brooch, It is called a "C" clasp because it does not have the little lock to hold the pin secure, it is just an open hook or "C". Any time you see that type of closure it is old. Look up "C clasp"

    • @BOLOBuddies
      @BOLOBuddies  25 днів тому

      I think they do make c clasp on the more modern brooches but there is a noticeable difference.

    Just read a great history of Trudeau in Dr. Lori’s newsletter. Trifari animal pins like the fish with the large stone in the center are called Jelly Belly and are highly collectible. Also, Trifari’s tag line used to be “if it’s not signed, it’s not Trifari.
    Also just a gentle fyi Pave is pronounced PA-VAY referring a type of cut and size of a stone, usually diamonds.

    • @lisavincent9983
      @lisavincent9983 Рік тому +2

      Pave' actually means "paved". As if the surface is paved with the stones. It's when the stones are set very close together, so close that you can't usually see the setting. You do have the pronunciation correct. I love pave' jewelry, so much sparkle!

    • @janetsmith3322
      @janetsmith3322 Рік тому +1

      Thanks Lisa you are absolutely right about pave being close set stones, but pave doesn’t mean paved, the literal translation in French means cobblestone. I sold fine jewelry for several years. To my discredit I didn’t do a very good job of explaining pave. Your definition was much better. Thanks for setting correcting me 🙏☺️

Wish I could find all the catalogs of Judy Lee jewelry. All I’ve found so far are 1965 and 1968’s catalogs. Any guidance on where to find more info on that brand is greatly appreciated.

      Yes, I would also love to know. I have ruined a few pieces myself. I just picked up quite a few vintage and older clip on earings which were very dirty on the back. The person who owned them wore alot of base on their face. I had to clean them and disinfect them before I tried them on. I used a solution of dishwasing liquid and water. I dipped my jewellery cleaning toothbrush into the soapy water and gently brushed the earing. Then rinsed them. I was praying I didn't ruin the stones, etc. 🙏😂

NONE surprised me because I’ve sold gripoux (pronounced “grip oh), old 40’s Trifari, Hobe (pronounced “hobe a”), etc. myself. Scottish agate jewelry always sells well and the green jade is not typically found in this type of jewelry. I feel like saying “duh” here.
