  • I am helping a friend with his racing pigeon team who has become ill. We started with 34 pigeons, 32 in the loft as of this morning. I am preparing these birds for races that begin on the third Saturday in August. Follow along as I work with these birds. Thanks for watching!

Working with those birds is not a trivial undertaking; wires, trees, hawks. Not for the faint of heart. At this point you just got to get them going, just like you’re doing. Good work and good luck!

It's definitely more of a challenge at Larry's with all the trees. Even more trees than my old place. They'll have to be hawk saavy to make it through the race season.

I enjoy watching your videos. I do not own pigeons, but hope to in the future. I’m still learning about this hobby. Keep up the great content. Blessings to you.

There are a lot of trees. Not easy for the birds nor for the manager. Good job though.

I agree, the earlier the better. This video is me working with a friend’s birds. He is sick. He can only watch from the window. I am doing this to help bring him some joy.

That has to be one of the worst locations for flying birds that I've ever seen.. Leaving the loft open like that and leaving, what if a hawk decides to trap into the loft, just like the birds have the ability to do? 🤔

100% correct, a hawk could (and has) gone through the trap. I have done this since I started racing. I let the birds out in the morning before work and leave the house many times before they are back. Same thing here at Larry’s, I wish I had the time to pull up a chair and wait for them to come back, I just don’t. The alternative for me is wait until I am retired to race or roll the dice with the trap open. I end up doing the same thing on race day. Kids have games the same time the race birds should be back. They come back to an open loft. As you recall we did have a hawk in the loft twice last year, once the year before. It has happened five times since I started racing in 2005. Not ideal but better than not racing in my opinion. Some might make a different call here 🤷
