  • When I showed up at Jack's house to interview him, it was like showing up at my Grandparents house that I had always been close with. Even though I had never met him.
He showed me all his books and pictures that he had put together over the years from all his war experiences. He told all about his late wife, who he was married to for 69 years. He told me about his faith and how that was a driving force in him never giving up hope and pushing through difficult times. He told me about all his medals and how proud he was to be an American.
Then we started the interview lol
This guy was a true Hero! He was a gunner for the 692 Tank Destroyers for the entire war! He was very proud of that. You can hear the rest from him.

I had the honor of talking with him for over 25 years at 692nd reunions. The memories ran from hilarious to the horrors of war. December 24, 1944 Jack and Bob Link joined the Germans in singing Christmas songs, each on opposite sides of the river. Then, the next morning they returned to killing each other. When Jack learned of 96 year old President Bush jumped out of an airplane, so did Jack. That's what these men were made of...guts.
