- You never really know what you are going to get when you show up to interview the Veterans.
When I arrived at Clinton's house, he instantly told me all about his wife, who he loved dearly. She passed away 7 years ago and he left their living room untouched, just as she left it. He dusts all the trinkets and dolls, but hasn't moved a thing. It helps keep her memory alive for him. They were married 62 years. As he told me, he didn't just lose his wife, he lost his buddy.
As I was setting up to film in his living room, while he got dressed in his military uniform, I heard a shout from the back say "You wanna see my war room?" I walked in the back and stepped into small room that was covered, wall to wall, with military items. Photos, medals, books, art, flags, awards, poetry, etc.
This man was proud of his service and his country. He told me how he would write poetry to keep his head clear and cope with his experiences in the war. He has been published and has won awards for his poetry. I saw this poem on the wall titled "The Old Dusty Jump Boots". I asked if he would read it for me. He obliged, only after telling a few classic old timer jokes, of course.
Please enjoy and share Clinton's poem.

Respect to all soldiers who fought in World war 2

What an incredible poem. Yes, them things they leave behind do speak. When I go hiking I bring out my twin brother Paul's old boots and then I step through the door. They resonate and we feel their life through them. I salute you guys. Mark
Thank You for your service we will never forget never 🙏🏼❤️
Thank you for your service, Clinton Riddle. As a fellow service member, I share the hope that America remains at peace and never has to face the ravages of war again. May God be with those whose families have suffered🤍
God bless you Brave Rifle👍🙏🏻♥️♥️🙏🏻🇺🇸🦅
So glad I'm alive in this moment in time, in my 43 years I've had the privilege and honor to meet many men who served during WW2. Their is not many of these men left on this planet, so if you ever have the same honor and privilege to meet one of them. Give them a firm hand shake and thank them from the bottom of your heart. You are alive in this moment because of them.
P.s. watch your feet when around WW2 vets (they might smash your toe with their big brass balls). Hoora
Thank you Sir
So very special. God Bless this man and his fellow brave souls who endured so much for this land. Let us forgive the youth of today who have not had to endure any hardships and actually believe that taking away our freedom is a good thing.
amazing just amazing, i wish i could tell everyone veteran who fought THANK YOU SO MUCH I INJOY MY FREEDOM IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU GUYS I WOULDN'T BE ALIVE THANK YOU FOR YOU SERVICE
You gave me a smile....then your poem moved me to tears. Several years ago, I wrote a Father's Day poem for my Daddy, a WW2 Veteran, U.S. Army Air Corp.
Daddy appreciated it.
Just recently, my Daddy, my Hero & Best Friend, unexpectedly passed away.
I flew back home & watched our house & Daddy's cars...but I was numb. I wore His robe, & sat in His chair for days. Then, I happened to glance at the stack of Daddy's Car magazines & noticed something...the poem I wrote years ago, was sitting on top of those magazines where Daddy could look at it every day, right next to Daddy's spot. 💕🙏💕 Thank you for sharing your talents, memories & Service to our Great Nation. God bless you always. 💖🇺🇸💖
Thank you for your comment and much respect to your dad.
Best Defense Foundation I appreciate you guys💕& on behalf of my Daddy, Thank You kindly.💖
Ma’am I thank you’re father for what he did for our country and I hope he spent the rest of his life knowing what he did was great. 🙏🏽🇺🇸
I'm german, but I haven't got any members of my family who fought for germany during World War II. I hope that means my family brought no shame on itself.
Bruno S. German soldier fought for their country like American did, unless they served SD/Sipo.
May the soldiers that went to war be honored with the most of respect for those who died to those who fought and lived for our country they fought for freedom peace and rights and to save those people we did not know that people should have freedom and but we will never forget their service for our country of the red white and blue of America god bless those veterans and soldiers during ww1 and ww2 god bless America
Such a wonderful poem god bless and America and this man who fought for us and all the other vets who are still alive who fought for us.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Awesome
I am in awe! My misty eyes... my dad was in the Pacific Theatre. How did my heart end up in my throat?

I'm crying.
Litterally.
Thank you very much 🙏
Tears in my eyes as I'm thinking of the precious young men we lost as they did everything they could to insure our freedom. Seems too many are willing to trade that freedom for "safety." Thank you, Sir, for your service to this country.
Thank you Clinton. Thank you so very much. It was an honor for our family to spend the 75th with you in Europe. You are a true hero. You are also a fine comedian! You will be sincerely missed.
This is my father's friend during the war.
That was the most incredible poem I have heard. So thankful for all who gave their lives to keep America free. Thank you for your service to all that are still living. I salute you ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I really want to meet a ww2 vet before they depart from this world. I hope I get the honor soon.
The one person who actually disliked it was a German soldier jealous that the U.S won.
