I literally stayed up until 6am trying to beat this boss with a colossal greatsword build and when I finished I wasn't even happy, I was just exhausted and relieved that I could finally sleep
I was on her for 4-5 hours non stop and I felt the same way. My very first relief in the game that I felt happy was Maliketh
Ah managed to get around her in about an hour. Had realize I had the one blood katana that staggered the shit out of her so it was just a matter of learning her second phase a little better after sweeping her first phase easily every time.
Took about hr and a half, solo no summons against Malenia. It was definitely the most fun soulsborne boss for me, so yes I didn't feel the same way as you. I was elated when I finished it and definitely gave that rush of dopamine after the fight was over.
@@SlaineReigns took me 3 days for her, was doing solo no summons with a strength double warhammer build and bloodhound step. By far the hardest but greatest boss I’ve ever fought in a souls game IMO. Finally winning was a dopamine rush, def my fave fight in the game
The moment I realized I wasn't having fun I used summons tbh, if it's not fun why bother right?
Fun fact: some enemies in Elden Ring are hardcoded to attack you when you heal or cast a spell. To counter it, simply do it AFTER dodging an attack.

- Stuck on her for 5 days.
- Finally downloaded all of her moves in first phase and can regularly get to 2nd phase using just a few flasks or less.
- Learned more of the 2nd phase enough to beat her with some style.
- Now that it's finally over, I want to go back and fight her again feeling I can do even better.
There's always NG+ for that, best of luck with it!

I got stuck on her for 3hrs.. but it was only because i was a bit over leveled when i got to her.. i was just doing unga bunga with bloodhound step. I wanna fight her again while knowing all of her moves without an overleveled character and bloodhound.
Same. I beat her finally recently and I wanna do a rematch and do better. I got pretty good at the first phase and logically I understand the second phase too I'm just not good enough to pull it off so I beat her with online co-op.
It still felt really good triumphing over her though! The other fellow I summoned also had an unga-bunga double big sword style so I felt instant camraderie. And it was still hard as balls, we needed to correctly time our attacks together and we both needed to correctly dodge THAT move.
I raged, I had fun learning her, and it was a great feeling T posing at her in the end. Really good boss, but still not my favourite because of how frustrating and unpredictable it can be.
Jesus man I feel you so much. Just beat her recently with a self imposed rule, no summons/let me solo her, use guts greatsword, no poke spam, no shield, and no magic just pure melee. I'm not saying this to brag on you or anyone(I'm proud tho), I'm just saying this because you most likely also had some self imposed bs rules on yourself if you had to deal with her for 5 days, you're not alone my man. Needless to say, my rules forced me to memorize all of her move sets and learn when I'm supposed to attack and when not to, fuck colossal weapons, they do satisfy me but at what cost. Man I do hate it when I stagger her then when she comes back up she goes straight in to her dance(water fowl) animation, I'm not far enough to dodge her first barrage, bad rng sucks.
I beat her once with my rules, but then I realized my screen wasn't recorded, so I did it again, yes I'm stupid and this is pointless. I beat her again after 10 hours of trying, it was recorded this time, but god that run was dirty because I just woke up and beat her on my first try of the day. Now I'm thinking if I should reload my save file and say goodbye to my progress yet again because for sure I can do better than I did. I'll set my vid public if anyone's interested to see a masochist's victory.
Even after beating her, these words still haunt me: “I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella and I have never known defeat.”

At first I was skeptical of us seeing a boss that could contend with the likes of Orphan of Kos and Darkeater Midir in terms of difficulty...But Malenia clearly proved me wrong here.

Wow, the Haligtree is like... a condensed, best off all the hardest encounters in the game crammed in one spot.
It's the Great Hollow+Shrine of Amana, leading into Anor Londo + Blighttown and culminates in Orphan+Friede

Yeah, annoying enemy placement, status effects, precarious level design designed to make you fall to your death or get knocked down to your death several times, and a ridiculous boss at the end of it all. It just sucks lol.

Difference is: you can dodge in Sekiro, you cannot deflect in Elden Ring.

I got pretty good at this fight. I started punishing a lot of shit like her side step and her kick. I loved this fight though. The process of breaking it down and executing it. Felt like I could get to the point of no damaging her. Super sweet battle

Man this boss had me pulling out my hair lol. After like 60 tries I finally kill her first first form and was so relieved but my world tore apart when I heard that “wait” T.T lol 90% of my deaths are from her and stupid dogs lol
Lmao that’s EXACTLY how it happened for me. I texted my brother “I think I found the hardest boss in this game” and then like 20 mins later I beat the first phase. Thinking it was over I then texted “Nevermind, if she was a bit more durable she would be a PROBLEM” and then the cutscene began…lmao

This boss absolutely intrigued me , even from the cinematic trailer seeing her go head-to-head with Radahn. My attention was caught. When that second boss phase theme kicks in it becomes epic
@Anal Farmer I realized after helping a few others beat her.
She's a Bloodborne boss, you gotta get your hits in and get out super fast. Fists and daggers can flinch her and have super fast recovery times so you can react to her attacks. She got me to open my inventory and dig for something that works that wasn't shield and counter and I enjoy being forced to use all the damn things I had been hoarding.
Nah you gotta adapt man.
Can't expect the same thing to work on every ennemy.
@Anal Farmer The regen is not even the unfair thing in that fight, she barely heals herself from it. Like, if she gets a big chuck of HP back, that means you took way too many hits, so you are most likely dead or at like 5% HP and will most likely die anyway. The bs thing is her anime jump slash, as there's only 2 ways to evade that sh*t. Either manage to glitch the insane tracking the first attack has by running towards her or get lucky and be far away enough to outrun it.
to hear her also say "I've never known defeat" means she pushed Radahn's poop in too
@@taigaaisaka6305 yeah, agree. The super anime attack PERSONALLY doesn't bother me anymore because I can dodge her consistently with normal roles, but it's still dumb, I hope they fix that move a little bit, a raise on the wind up would be perfect. (also nice profile picture and name, real culture)

Things I learned in this fight, dodging towards or around her for 70% of the moves is better. Never Heal when she walks only after a combo you know, has finished.
She almost always attacks in a straight line, that's why dodging next to her/towards her is the best option
And For Waterfowl Dance, just hope she doesn't roll it
I just love watching Max's face slowly go from excitement wonder and curiosity to dread anger and rage

Miyazaki was definitely pushing the boundaries in the difficulty with this one...
Her second phase is just terrible to learn if you're playing blind and the fact that she recovers health doesnt help either. A melee focused build is just destined to suffer on this fight.

of course if you're playing blind the boss is hard. that's not new. orphan of kos exists. all her moves are telegraphed really clearly and the fight is basically a lesson of working out how to dodge her moves and when is safe to attack. just unga-bunga swing colossal greatsword and tank hit with insane poise doesn't work.
@@louwashe yeah. In the attempts I won or almost won I barely got hit with my melee build. The ONLY thing that I didnt learn to avoid is that dance of doom but I just shield tanked that. I'm glad there's one boss in the game that's stupid hard no matter when I fight them.

If my two summons hadnt managed to deal with her for me, I had no intention of going back in. I took one look at the crazy bullshit she was doing and knew I couldnt handle it, and just hid in the corner.

They definitely have a similar feeling to both of their fights. An opponent of impossible skill who you stand no chance of defeating, that can only be conquered by searching for that perfect timeline.
The record showed, he took the blows, and he did it his way.
Here’s a little trick for everyone having trouble with this fight, the ash of war “prelate’s charge” can stunlock her for as long as you can use it. Slap that on great stars or the butchering knife and apply blood flame blade and you can easily kill her with the bleed procs. I should know, I bet her first try with this setup (and a co-op partner to take attention off me when the buff ran out).
Was it cheesy, oh hell yeah. But the boss heals for every landed hit and will instakill you at the start of phase 2 if you go in blind, I say that deserves some cheese.
Must be nice, but except I have nat 3, have been told by my provider that my package can't change it, so I can't summon anyone or coop, and it's just been me and my imps the whole game.😂
Or carry Rivers of Blood and have a mimic tear to kill her in 30 sec.

@@Howl4514 black knife tiche is also a top tier summon, but you have to do rannis questline all the way to when you reach her final area, then goe to the evergaol in the westmost part of her area. Good luck!

Nothing is more painful when you do really good damage to her and she hits you 3 times and reverses almost all of the damage you did. Haven't felt this kind of despair from a boss since Inner Ishin. Idk how FromSoft does it but GG

@@Sol217 You've probably found it by now but you need two halves of a secret medallion, one you get from the snowy area at Castle Sol, I forget where the other one is though. Anyways, after you get the two halves, take it to the elevator you used to get to the snowy area and change the interact option until it says "Raise secret medallion" it will take you to a new area where you have to navigate through a snowstorm but after that, you'll find a town where you have to solve a puzzle by lighting four flames, afterwards, there will be a gateway open that will teleport you to the Haligtree and from there, it's just a mostly straightforward path to Malenia.
I just defeated her last night, after a week of trying without summons. She’s a very memorable boss. I love her, and it felt so good to defeat her at last.
Agreed! It took me about 3 days to beat her, but each time i fought her it was for hours on end, L after L.
I appreciate the hell out of you for sticking to your guns. I stuck with my Colossal sword strength build until the end. I knew there were better builds and God Slayer weapons out there but I liked my "flame give me strength" Fire greatsword build. I Hulk smashed my way through this entire game! 😆
Took me like 12 plus hours to bring her down. I literally just started psychotically repeating the words “you’re dead” to my monitor for like 20 seconds after the last hit
Moment I saw Max playing Elden Ring, I thought "Alright, when's the Boss Rage?"
Pretty impressed that it'll only be for Malenia, the hardest boss in the game (although, fuck the Godskin Duo lol)
I actually managed to beat those bastards on my first try, I did have my wolf summon but it still really fucking tense lol
Godskin Duo can be cheesed with sleep arrows/pots.
@@vicxx123 didn’t used pots at all during my playthrough, I used the ash of war abilities and the summons to fight the bosses

I want to thank Maximilian for all the suffering he endured through this playthrough. This video evidence managed to convince me to play as a sorcerer and overlevel my character before going to fight Malenia and thanks to that I enjoyed a lot the game...

This is THE BOSS to do a boss rage video on. Holy shit I instantly clicked on this video
I found that the Ruins Greatsword when paired with another Colossal Sword made her relatively approachable. It's Ash of War has a lot of range, and with the weapon at +9 and the Shard of Alexander Talisman, it did 1500 damage per hit and could reach her in her flower attack. This on top of the fact that power-stancing Colossal Weapons is a great way to stagger her, I had significantly less trouble than most. Now of course it could be argued that merely dual-wielding swords the size of telephone poles is cheese in and of itself.

When I beat her in second phase after trying to beat her over that last two previous nights was so nerve wracking. I don’t know how, but I went into focus mode cause I roll dodge everything and beat her. Felt so good lol

@@2la84me i was one time in my life 100% that i am aware 9 ball pool tournament finals small event but my first finals imagine a room full of people and in my mind emptiness nobody around don't even my opponent exist i think the best pool i play in my life today i will play better but if we scale my skill at that time from 1 to 10 i was in 3 i raised it to 5 this is a weird power mysterious but amazing

Dunkey called this "Dark Souls 4: No End Credits Edition" and I thought that was a really accurate descriptor as I work through NG+ on one file and an entirely fresh 3rd run on another file...
The editing in this video is *amazing*. Comedic timing of certain effects is just perfect.

I finally beat this fight after like 8 hours total, recently, and man, what a journey it was... I played blind with a ton of restrictions on myself, so I had to figure out my own method of avoiding her flurry attack. And I actually managed to find a way to successfully avoid it, even not taking damage, sometimes. The run I finally beat her, she did it three times in her 2nd phase, so managing to live all that made the victory so much more satisfying...
Against the flurry attack, only if she's far enough away, I would keep evading away, them just before she jumps again I would evade towards her, then away twice more after her attack. That could avoid being hit. If I was too close, I would have to block some of it.
Favorite part about this game Is that everyone has a different hardest boss, or favorite boss
My hardest is probably mohg I'm real bad at phase 2. Don't really have a single favorite but godskin duo, final boss, malenia, and godfrey come to mind.
For me the hardest boss is soldier of Godrick

Oh hell yes! Malenia's intro cutscene and first phase gave me such Lady Maria vibes! Seemingly dead sitting in a chair, the slow walk towards the player, the way they hold their blade, being super quick and agile and aggressive. Even their second phase soundtrack sounds similar! And also the both of them being loved/hyped by the community and super rage inducing. Love it!

As much as I hated this fight, I loved it. Took me over 100 rune arcs and honestly looking back, every death was so fun. When games can create an experience like this that lasts a few hours it’s truly magical and well worth the time/torture it takes to complete the challenge. 10/10 boss imo
Yeah, her waterfowl dance might be total BS but I still had a lot of fun fighting her.
2/10 boss, a lot of people change their opinion of bosses once they beat it, look at the boss with an objective point of view, and you will see the many flaws, compared to other bosses in the game, and the series.

King of the Storm, Orphan of Kos, Orstein and Smoug. Every game has a bs boss that makes you beat your face against a wall as you try to perfect the match for hours on end. But then you can’t help but go online and see others take on the struggle and eventually beat it too because the experience sits with you.
For me it’s the wfd having such specific tight dodge windows and directions that makes this fight difficult. The lifesteal is irrelevant if you treat her like Nameless King who outright kills you if he hits you 1-2 times. Yet I wouldn’t have her any other way. Same with pre-nerf Radahn who would fart and insta kill me. His stats were beyond too overdone yet I hate that all my playthroughs are against a nerfed version of him now.
@@deletekeys Orphan and O&S are not bullshit tho, not in the slightest. Waterfowl doesn't have "tight" dodge windows, it has NO dodge windows. The first flurry is literally undodgeable. The only way to avoid it to not be in the hurtbox to begin with. THAT is bullshit.
Max's playthrough was easily the most fun playthrough of this game. Thanks Max!

That was amazing. And credit to how the game sets up your skills. You expect to always be expecting the hardest thing can only be as hard as you're making it.

She was the hardest boss I've ever fought and only because of the sword weapon art everything else is so easy to dodge but that jump attack simply is impossible for me
I thought so too about her weapon art, thinking it was even simply impossible to dodge if you were close to her, but it turns out the timing is just extremely tight, with 2 or 3 perfectly executed dodges you can escape the attack no matter the distance
Probably because it IS impossible. Just have to hope she goes after your summon and not you, or you die.
If you don't panic, all you need to do is roll toward her and she'll completely whiff and zoom past you on each stage of the attack. So just 3 well-timed rolls forward will make her miss it all. After I figured this out, it made the fight soo much easier since everytime she does that, it's just free damage

@@halfandhalf3386 I went in with a greatshield build. With enough stamina you can facetank her spin and counter. She was still a nightmare though.

You are the reason why I’m gonna get this game. I’ve never played any Souls game. This one caught my eye but I was like, nah. Then I saw your streams and play throughs on here and I kept coming back. I feel like even though I’ll probably rage quit a lot, it’ll be worth it.
This is my 1st. souls game too. This message is for you if you use a shield and you aren't aware of this detail. Apply Barricade Shield ash of war on ANY shield that has 100% guarded damage negation. Apply it before an attack and watch how your endurance is affected. Now try blocking without it and watch your endurance.
