My pops was cvl and told me a story about going in one of the gd buildings in Cabrini in 91, said the longest night of his life. I been twice 05 and 06, my aunt used to live in 1230. My grandpa used to take us to the auto show every year and he didn't want to pay for parking so we'd always park in the Ickies. Remember one year they broke into his car and took his leather jacket and the car gear shifter. One of my cousins who is retired CPD said the 80s and 00s was bad for the project but the 90s was hell in a cage. Worst was always Cabrini, Rockwell, Hornetz, and he said Robert Taylor was the worst in his opinion. One year in the early 90s they had 72 murders and over 400 shootings alone.
We lived in the Lawndale Gardens projects from 1963 to 1969 and my brother and I went to the old neighborhood in 2015 and that place looks way better than when we lived there
@@empirebbk No they just remodeled everything and got rid of the incinerators they had 1 for each row of apartments we had no garbage pickup you would dump your garbage and when it would get full we would burn our garbage

What you mean current the city got rid of most of the projects and the current ones have mostly been remodeled, not notorious like they were before. Some of them aren't even CHA anymore
All the projects are gone except for altgeld gardens, Murray homes Dearborn homes, Wentworth gardens, brooks homes and Loomis court of abla and the row homes of Cabrini. They're calm these days for the most part
What happened to the 16's (R. Brooks Extention)? They were across the street from Jane Adams / Holy Family Church and East of the row houses (R. Brooks). I saw the 15's (G. Abbot) high rise, but to cut out the 16's is an insult to us who survived.
The facts is those projects wasnt like that in the fifties n earlyn mid sixties there was social centers baseball softball. Jobs n resources once Nixon took over n stop the flow of resources which was intentional all hell broke loose people couldn’t move out until open housing went into effect not only that there was a study done with mice in cages with one piece of small chese to fight over. Not only that the government brought in the drugs n the guns n took the trades out of the high school the government has never had any interest in taking care our people n provide adequate resources. Projects are nothing but a concrete reservation built to destroy the less fortunate after our land was stolen with their guns so who was the gang banger we are the original inhabitants of America wake up little brother.
A lot of innocent people lost their lives because of a stray bullet.
