My family is from the NYC suburbs, but long ago we lived in Downers Grove for three years (1967-69). We loved it there. I attended the Avery Coonley private school.
The Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area is one of the best spots in the state, if not the country! Absolutely ANYTHING you could want is there, except the highest-end clothing stores. But for that you can go to the North Shore or downtown. Being close to hospitals, physicians and specialists of every sort becomes REALLY important after 70.
I completely agree! I moved to Schaumburg from Chicago in 1994 and completely fell in love with the area. The awesome restaurants and entertainment and of course one of the biggest malls in the state Woodfield Mall.
Moving there from Iowa on Saturday 🙏🏽extremely excited. Have a lot of friends in the Chicagoland area in general but I love Elmhurst and it’s close proximity to everything.
AWESOME video!! I'd like to add my own personal experience as well. I grew up in Flossmoor/Homewood area, lived in Wicker Park for a few years, and work in Palos. I am currently living in Plainfield Illinois and have lived here in a new home build for the past 3yrs. I'm surprised that this town wasn't listed. To be TOTALLY honest, this is without a doubt the best overall quality of life and living I have experienced so far. It's directly connected to Naperville, Joliet, Shorewood, Oswego and few other towns. I have NEVER felt safer and more comfortable than I have here. I could easily walk around my neighborhood (black male) at 2am and not feel the slightest in danger. Granted, I got in during covid and before the housing boom. The area has grown tremendously in terms of new housing AND it's not Crook i mean cook county. I agree 100% with everything said about Naperville and that is a well-deserved #1 spot. What's great is that I'm 20-30 minute (back road) driving from downtown Naperville. I cannot attest to the school quality as I've only been here 3yrs and my daughter is now turning 2. All of my neighbors are loving and friendly and there is a strong sense of community without crossing into the weird neighborhood watch/Karen category. Between Large city fairs, fireworks, farmer markets, nightlife events, downtown events.....i cannot recommend enough another well rounded town to live in that checks all the boxes without much compromise. IF I had to find cons, I'd say there is a huge abundance of new development homes now but not a lot of things like movie theaters and super upscale restaurants. Think like Hugos, Cooper Hawk, Sullivans. You'll have to travel out of town for those but once again, Plainfield is 20-30 minutes from ALL of these. There's a theater in Joliet mall 10 minutes away from me. While this town is not on the list, I HIGHLY recommend looking into it if you are searching for a place to live and using this video as a reference. I may have struck gold given my new home was built in south Plainfield a block away from route 59 which connects everything. I have a fire department less than a mile away from us, Shorewood and Joliet for food and shops less than a mile away, Naperville down 59 for City experience without going to the city, close to Plainfield Central (highest rated HS), and minutes from downtown.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience! Plainfield sounds like a wonderful place to live, and it’s great to hear how much you enjoy the community and its amenities. Your insights on safety, local events, and the sense of community really highlight what makes a suburb special. I appreciate the recommendation, and I’ll definitely keep Plainfield in mind for future videos!
You're welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. If there's anything else you'd like to know about Chicago's suburbs or any other topics you're interested in, feel free to ask. Your support means a lot. Thanks for watching!
I live in Clarendon hills which came in second on here and it feels so safe and comfortable over here. Many nice homes and nice and quiet. A small town but many nice stores.
Clarendon Hills is a fantastic choice! It really does offer that perfect blend of safety, charm, and convenience. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your time there!
I think it's hands down one of the best places to live in the country. But it's renal prices are eyewatering. We are just a couple. But when we have children, the expensive rent will be well justified!
That's awesome! Naperville is definitely one of the best suburbs with great schools, parks, and a strong sense of community. I'm sure your niece and her family are enjoying everything it has to offer!
Absolutely! While rental prices can be high, buying a home can be a great investment in your future. It allows you to build equity and create a stable environment for your family. It's worth considering as you plan for the future!
I need to visit more of Chicago Suburbs in the future. I only been to Aurora, Elgin, Homewood, Robbins, Palos Hills, Orland Park, Downers Grove, Joliet, Blue Island, Harvey and including northern suburbs of Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe and Winnetka which is my wife's stomping grounds.
Wow, you've already explored quite a few of the suburbs, but there's definitely more to see! Each suburb around Chicago has its own unique flavor and charm. Since you've been to both the more urban and the quieter, more residential areas, maybe next time you could check out some of the western suburbs like Naperville or Oak Park, which are known for their vibrant downtowns and community activities. If you need any suggestions on places to visit or things to do in any specific suburb, feel free to ask. Enjoy your future explorations!
You were in Palis Hills, but... unfortunately you missed near by Palos Hights!!! Big difference!!! Go Harlem South to 123th and turn left!!! You will dicover MAGIC!!!
Good video, but you should include crime rates and the rifraf in each suburb. I think people are also interested in learning about crime statistics as well. Thanks.
Thank you for your feedback! Including crime statistics is definitely important, and we appreciate your suggestion. We'll keep that in mind for future videos to provide viewers with a more comprehensive overview of these suburbs. If you have any more questions or specific details you'd like to know about any of these suburbs, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help! 😊🏡📊
Hi! Choosing the best suburb in IL greatly depends on your specific wants and needs, such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you're looking for, the size of the home, amenities, school requirements, and whether you have children. With a budget of $1.2 million, you have a lot of flexibility. Suburbs like Hinsdale, Wilmette, and Lake Forest could be great options, but the best fit for you will vary based on your priorities. I'd love to discuss your preferences in more detail to help identify the perfect suburb for you. Feel free to reach out directly for a more tailored discussion. Thanks for reaching out, and I'm here to help with your home search!
Absolutely, Schaumburg and Arlington Heights are fantastic additions to any list of top suburbs around Chicago! Both offer a great mix of amenities, community spirit, and access to Chicago itself. Thanks for pointing them out-each suburb has its unique charm and it's great to hear from viewers about their personal favorites.
Great video! I’m a nurse with a family of 3, we’re looking for the right Chicago suburb that emphasizes best healthcare, safety, education, diversity and still affordable housing cause we’re thinking of permanently living here. What suburb do you think has all of these? thanks!
Thanks for your comment! It's great to hear that you're considering a permanent move to a Chicago suburb. 🏡 Naperville is an excellent choice and does indeed check many of the boxes you've mentioned. It has top-notch healthcare facilities, a strong focus on safety, great schools, and a diverse community. However, housing affordability can vary based on your specific budget and needs. Ultimately, the 'best' suburb for you would depend on your price range, work location, and personal preferences. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss your options in more detail. I'd be happy to help you find the perfect fit for your family! 👨⚕️🏫🏠
Thanks for asking about Lockport! It's known for being a friendly and safe community with good schools that are well-regarded for their educational programs. For commuting to downtown Chicago, there are convenient Pace bus services and nearby Metra rail connections. Lockport also boasts a rich historical background and a charming downtown area. We have a short segment specifically on Lockport in our video on the 10 Best South Chicago Suburbs, which provides more detailed information. I recommend checking that out for a closer look! Palos is a Spanish word, but it's pronounced payless for all three villages, not paylos. Also, I am curious as to why you conflated all of them into one Palos. Palos Park is the wealthiest, followed by Palos Heights, then Palos Hills. Just because they all have "Palos" in their names, doesn't mean their stats (demographics, income, geographic size etc) should be talked about as one lol. Yes, they border each other but they are not one unless you're talking about the township. I personally think Orland Park is the best southwest suburb, as it has everything from retail to dining choices. The western suburbs can be argued, as many Dupage villages are nice. I like Schaumburg, La Grange & Naperville. The north suburbs are usually even wealthier so one can take their pic as its subjective depending on what they're looking for. People seem to like Glencoe & Kenilworth.
You talk about 2 high schools in context to Buffalo Grove, but you never mention Buffalo Grove High School. Makes no sense, especially regarding Deerfield HS

Great question! Chicagoland has several LGBTQ-friendly suburbs, including Evanston, Oak Park, and Schaumburg, known for their inclusive communities and supportive resources. Each area offers a vibrant atmosphere with various events and organizations celebrating diversity. If you have specific suburbs in mind or want to know more about any of them, feel free to ask!
Brookfield might not be on everyone's radar, but it made the list because of its strong home values, good school district, and easy access to Chicago with the Metra. Plus, its own little downtown gives it a unique charm. Definitely worth considering!

You might...but it'll definitely be a fixer-upper. Not that they allow fixer-uppers in Hinsdale.
IM LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME IN THE CHICAGO AREA i grew up going to Brookfield ZOO
Hi Johnny, congradulations on making such an important decision. Are you looking for a single-family or multi-family?
Naperville better than Lake Forest, Winnetka or Glencoe??? Maybe if you are short with the money ...😂😂😅
Hoffman Estimates safe as well.

What happened to Glencoe?
Too small, too expensive. What happened to Glenview, i would ask ).

From Personal Experience..Naperville is The Very BEST..❤
Naperville is the best place to live I lived in Naperville for last 35 years it’s the best place to raise kids
Desirable but not the best! Traffic, dense population, overcrowded schools!
Try Plainfield north and east, very clean and uncluttered
Plainfield north and east is far far superior to Naperville . Naperville is too commercially dense, narrow subdivision street, clustered homes.
