Halo 3 ODST - Up Close To The In Amber Clad Easter Egg
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- The In Amber Clad was shown during the intro Prepare To Drop cutscene as a tiny brief easter egg that follows the Covenant ship into slipspace just like it did in Halo 2. But what does it look like up close? Let's find out!

Just to clarify a bit, I'm well aware it's using the Forward Unto Dawn model from Halo 3. I was referring more to the fact that they actually used a high detail model for something so far away and barely noticeable and they also bothered to change the name to be accurate even though no one would ever notice it. Most other scenes in the game just use a low res 2D sprite or model for things in the distance.
That was me.. that a didn't do that small detail stuff! lol
I have an idea for a video, the last mission in Halo Reach: Lone Wolf, you fight enemies i believe keep getting stronger. that means 3 questions:
1. how strong can the enemies in lone wolf get?
2. is there an end to the endless waves of enemies?
3. if there is an end to the endless enemies, wat are they?
you do have to use godmode tho, i don't know if there's a mod for that.
True story
I hate to break it to you but I doubt its attention to detail. The model as you state above is from Halo 3, therefore it's likely that they didn't make a low poly option because they didn't have to. The scene was already running at the desired performance and creating a low poly model may have taken unnecessary hours using the Bungie's pipeline. This would make sense considering Bungie was trying to rush this game out the door with only a small number of people working on it.
True but they still changed the name of the ship..
I love how Halo 3: ODST is literally Halo 2, but from a different perspective.
cobalT I wish they made more games/expansions that are just the same events from different perspectives. Or rather, I wish you could play as regular marines and ODSTs more often
But no regular smgs or brs -___-
Antonio George well there is a smg so no brs
@Halo Fanatic hence different perspective. Its at the same time, not the same place
@Halo Fanatic it didnt take place there. It all was happening at the same time though, thats all we are saying
It would've been cool if there was an Easter egg on in Amber clad just showing a massive dent where chief decided to free fall into it from space
Alex Reed for a brick, he flew pretty good!
or just place a brick there
@@Loler92Oa Yeees lol
I would have put an actual brick there.
Just one question..... What if you miss?!
Love this line
In death, Bungie is still giving us more than we expect.
madcowkiller10 * even in death, bungie still gives us more
lol They ain't dead. Yet. More like in ICU.
@@fuzzydunlop7928 they've been dusted. Still alive, but gone.
Donald J. Trump nice now make a pussy joke
I gotta be honest 343 and Bungie were equally good. Neither do well on their own. Destiny, Bungie’s own game after leaving Halo, was filled with problems-namely the story was scrapped to something incomprehensible that Bungie later admitted even they didn’t understand on the verge of releasing their second game
They put all of that detail into getting the ship right but left out all of the details from the west part of Mombasa.
They put in the reservoir with the Jackal snipers, looks like.
This is actually the first time I got a good perspective of the true scale of a Covenant carrier. That's nuts man
Its huge
Well, that shit is massive even in Halo 4 Prologue and Halo Wars 2.
@@Eizh And reach
@@loweni7460 and my nuts
This carrier pales in comparison to the cso super carrier
Did you know the pod that crashed into rookie was mickey's. If you pause it when a pod crashed into rookies, you see mickey in the pod.
Really? That's pretty cool.
Really wow
Yea lets get a video on this
Should’ve known, of course it’d be Mickey. Already a traitor before he even intended to.
Mickey was my favourite character in the franchise (sorry master chief), but he wasn't like anything in the game and it made me feel really sad when I read "Halo: New Blood" to find out Mickey was a traitor and Rookie died. It was if Mickey died and reincarnated into a demkn to me.
It's very interesting bungie actually made the in amber clad model, shows how much they care about details.
It's probably just the same model they used in halo 3 for other ships but chucked a "in amber clad" sticker on it. It would explain why the ship is so high res compared to the covenant carrier and everything else when it's unnecessary
But, its the wrong ship, in amber clad is a stalwart class, but this is a charon class.
@@kiio1291 the ship is too far away to tell the difference. I still reckon they just did a copy paste job (which is fine)
Bungie created cutscenes in the weirdest and most interesting ways.
Yeah boy
maybe the ship was originally supposed to have a close up/flashback scene?
batterysurf
Nope, just a reused asset from halo 3.
@@Valkyries733 it isn't in Halo 3, they had to remake the entire thing from scratch
romand271
It IS from halo 3, all they literally did was change the decal texture to say “In Amber Clad”
The model is from "The ARK" mission in halo 3. But they did a small texture change for the text. Reused asset
I could see that
Only thing they got wrong was that they were using the Halo 3 Charon-class frigate model, instead of the Halo 2 Stalwart-class frigate model that the In Amber Clad actually was. HOWEVER, because no Stalwart-class ships are in Halo 3, and the Charon-class looks virtually identical to it, it made sense Bungie saved on resources and simply retextured and renamed an existing Charon-class frigate from Halo 3.
Pretty much this
Also we wouldn't really see the ship up close so it made sense they just reused the model.
Red Centurion as it is meant to be seen from several in-game kilometers away.
Paris class.
Paris-class was introduced and seen in Halo: Reach.
Well, thanks to ur last vid i cant look at Buck and Dare on the screens without seeing them hogtied and crammed into a box.
same LMFAO
its too funny
I'd read that fic. Sounds pretty kinky.
They showed the Amber Clad to test people whether they can actually spot it.
I love how ODST actually takes place during halo 2 and shows what happened when chief and the rest of them went to the I believe Delta halo. Green light, green light to engage
The ship looks a bit like a Charon instead of a Stalwart however, but it's still surprising it has it's own model.
Edit: It's a Charon
Gravemind as it is meant to be seen from several in-game kilometers away.
Gravemind yea id be even cooler if they made a stalwart class model just for that moment
it's a Paris class.
Corey Nope, if you look at the hangar bay underneath the ship it shows that it's a Charon. They just used the Halo 3 model.
Corey STARK negative
The reason the ship is so detailed is because it takes a few seconds to drop in the asset of the ship that was already created for Halo 3. It would have been more work to make a separate low polly asset just for this scene
The In Amber Clad isn't in Halo 3.
@@tetragrade But they did have the same model, and basically the same textures
I always thought that the other ODSTs landed in the ocean and died, but getting a closer view of the cutscene shows that the drop pods might have actually hit the ship before it went into slipspace. I think it would be cool if they made a game where you play as those other ODSTs and boarded the ship. Maybe it could be called... Halo: Hard Drop?
That could be cool, but those soldiers almost certainly were torn yo shreds by the slipspace jump. If you aren't inside a ship in slipspace, your survival chances are very low.
Plus since the prophet of regret is on that carrier its highly that the ODST died by the honor guards
Regret's ship was in slipspace for about 2 weeks, so either those ODST pods impacted off the shield, were killed by Covenant troops, were ripped apart in the slipspace transition, or simply ran out of air after a day.
Halo: Hard Drop
Mission 1: Alone... but not afraid:
A single ODST drop pod manages to tear through the hull of the Covenant ship, landing in a dock full of low ranking Grunts who maintain vigil over a few huragok kept on the ship for repairs. Scene opens up with the ODST coming to as they hear the Grunts course guttural speech muffled through the pod wall. A single fleshy blue tentacle manages to squeeze though a crack in the glass. The ODST instinctively grabs the tentacle, pushing it against the pod hatch, reaching for the hatch ejection handle. He pulls it, lettin the hatch crush anything that was in front of it as it explodes forward. They jump out, pulling their smg out of it’s holster and grabbing a single fragmentation grenade, prepared for possible death. The player takes control as the visr adjusts to the lighting of the holding bay, alarms already blaring. Grunts are running away from the pod, a few in fear, others running to grab weapons. With the alarms ringing, the player soon sees Jackal snipers coming out to investigate the commotion. This will be a fight for survival.
I'd drop 60 bucks for that.
This is why we loved bungie
Silent Shadow "loved"...but still love.or now dislike because of halo 4? XD
Emphasis on loved. With their Destiny ways alongside Activision I'm good without them.
Masterpotato it’s not really bungies fault right? From what I’ve heard, Activision took over and stopped all the creativity.
@@claudioromano6808 yeah that's right
Masterpotato so there’s no reason for anyone to get mad at bungie lol
The problem I have: its the wrong ship type. IAC was a stalwart class, but this is a charon. You can tell by the shape of the hangar bay areas. But still, props to bungie tho
Paris class
They did the same thing in the first cutscene in Halo 2. They used the Marathon-class cruiser for the Pillar of Autumn.
Corey STARK I just checked (Halo: warfleet) and its a stalwart class.
Weird how ODST and Reach were my favourite memories of Halo story now.
Same and halo2
It's not an Easter egg it's just continuity. Odst does in fact take place as in amber clad leaves earth behind the carrier
One of the things Halo 2: Anniversary did wrong was the cut scene where In Amber Clad followed the ship into slipspace. In both the original cutscene and ODST, In Amber Clad pulls up next to the ship and travels through next to it on the way through. However, in anniversary edition, the cutscene shows the Covenant ship make it completely through the portal as In Amber Clad lags behind and just barely makes it through just as the portal is closing.
Im so glad this came out! I just saw it randomly a few weeks ago! How crazy that a video was made for it!!!
Generalkidd, your voice has really improved lately in your videos man, especially this one! Keep up the great work man!
Hey thanks very much for showing more of this cutscene area.
That's the model of the Forward Unto Dawn, with the texture changed to include the Name and serial number.
After that initial cutscene all the Space Elevators in the game are destroyed, at least partially, and we've never, canonically, seen the top of one.
In this pre-jump cutscene, what does the top of the Space Elevator look like?
Much appreciated.
It just stops existing at a certain point.
Yeah, but I'm still interested in seeing what that looks like, even if only in passing. I was hoping he'd do it this vid.
This is a gem.... I also thought I heard that you can see the pelican in the same cutscene (the one with sgt johnson and chief) but I can’t remember
Is it possible to go to the level uprising in the great journey on halo 2?
Maybe idk?
No the door that locks behind you has nothing behind it because it is a completely different level.
@@Rhysdoesletsplays if you fly a banshee to the top you can see parts of it but theres an invisible barrier
Its probably a very low quality version of the level with almost nothing there. Might be interesting to check out though.
so you just answered your own question
Remember when he was like nine, I was eight watching his vids, it’s funny to grow up with him
It took me a minute to realize that the other odst troopers more than likely died by flying off course into the ocean... I kind of wondered where the other odst troopers are considering the amount of drop pods in this cut scene.
@GoTi4No the pods weren't water proof and sunk like a rock. They show this in halo legends when a Spartan pulls an odst pod out of a mud pit so it doesn't kill the trooper.
all the other pods landed on the ship right as it entered slip space. they got shredded and stretched out badly lol.
@@TheRealBmanswanIf the pods weren't waterproof then every ODST would die immediately after launching from the ship in the vacuum of space
@@brianfunt2619 the suits they wear are vacuum sealed and have 15 minutes of oxygen in them. They even make it clear in the book "the flood" that if an odst lands in water it's a tragic death. Also odst drops from orbit where there's little to no oxygen they don't drop from the vacuum of space. If they did they'd float in space and not sink using gravity.
@@TheRealBmanswan I haven't read the books but if they say that, it contradicts what we see in the games. In Halo 2 the drop pods clearly launch from space towards Delta Halo and it wouldn't make sense that Johnson would be waiting inside one of the pods if they weren't going to be pressurised for the drop because he would die. Also in Halo 3 ODST their fingers are exposed and that would mean they would swell up in the low pressure if the pods weren't pressurised. And seeing as the suits are pressurised then surely it wouldn't matter if the pods filled up with water anyhow. However they might still drown/suffocate depending on whether their armour is heavy enough to make them sink to the bottom once they escape the pod.
Watching this almost makes me wonder if there's a similar Easter egg in Halo 2A but from the In Amber Clads POV
One of a few, if not the only, Halo ship size comparison videos available.
halo is that one game series that thousands of years later, still have new easter eggs discovered
4:58 look around the top left corner and the ship is still there.
I've always noticed this. Thank God you finally look into it. I'll play the first mission and only pay attention to the lower right corner just to see it
how do i shoot my gun i got slam dunked on my head by michael jordan
I love your puns GeneralKidd I'd listen to them all day
It was so polite of the Covenants not to shoot down the In Amber Clad as it was right next to their ship.
Generalkidd can you do a tutorial on how to bring out unused weapons in halo 3 ODST for example the energy sword.
Those weapons aren't unused, thier models were just leftover from h3
Look for the channel GameCheat13
There's a video about that, I think, like the Battle Rifle and that stuff
Do you know if a modded 360 Is required to mod the game. It if not how do you even get the campaign map files on your computer to mod with assembly.
@@Brian-vn4xb yes a modded 360 is required unless you want to use xenia or halo online
Gavin Rolls Damn that sucks
I always looked for In Amber Clad, but could never find it because I didn't realize how tiny it actually was, thanks for pointing it out.
Fun fact, because of the fact that ODST is in the halo 3 Engine the cutscene we watch in ODST is basically just the same cutscene from halo 2 from a different camera angle. That’s why the In Amber Clad is a full model. Because it’s actually the same scene we see in halo 2.
That's a Charon class frigate, but the IAC was not the only Frigate that entered the slipspace portal. The UNSC Coral Sea, UNSC Redoubtable, and UNSC Paris all followed the Solemn Penance through the portal.
They already had a high res model from Halo 3, so it's pretty inconsequential to rename it and change the skin very quickly. Looks like the wrong class of frigate as well.
True and yeah it is just the halo 3 model, but it's still impressive they even bothered to rename the frigate when no one would be able to see it.
It’s so far away they could have just used the Forward Unto Dawn, but no they actually either made a completely new model or just edited the Dawn with Clad’s name and registry. So cool for how barely noticeable it is.
Holy shit! That's sequence was full scale? I thought it was just an illusion or something!
Now all they have to do is update H2A and throw in 6 little pods falling in the distance during the slip space cutscene.
My friend was looking at guitars at a guitar and I said to him: Hey, that's a nice pick.
Now I was aware of the Easter egg but I wasn't aware that they put so much detail into it, that is so amazing!
Legend says he is still in the cutscene flying around.
Just for how small we (UNSC) are there. Just how small a Human ship was damn tiny a dust particle
Dude you're insane. You always find the craziest tiny details. Love your stuff, keep up the great work!
Wow. Best video ever.
Please explore more cutscenes!
Maybe the in amber clad was part of some cut content and the used it in the cutscene later
Wowzers Never even noticed the little reenactment with Enn Amber Clad etc. also Great Size Comparison with Fully 3D models that’s grand
This is actually pretty damn awesome. Where flat images would be used to save on resources, they used a full model of the original ship scaled down. You can tell it's the original model because the textures are hi-res. Halo devs typically rely on super low quality LOD(Level of Detail) textures to save on resources. They scale on their own using a technique called a MIP-Map, which if I recall from my Halo 2 modding days, was the way Bungie would render LOD's depending on distance from said texture. If these LOD's weren't compiled with the original texture, it would remain the same, but would fade to varying degrees of black until it was black entirely.
Rambling aside, I was surprised at the detail here. Halo 4's DLC maps heavily rely on 2D images to pack tons of detail, which quickly realized when the player uses a Sniper Rifle to zoom in on the fine details. Pixelation and quality degradation are immediate. With 3D models, it's harder to detect.
Now I can’t stop knowing the character pictures on the screens are character models
I've always looked, but never could see this in-game.. an afterthought: since ODST was released after Halo 2, it's quite possible that it's just a re-used asset from H2 and it might've just been easier to throw it in ODST rather than make a brand new 2D element... and then let it get discovered 10 years later. nice work!
Could you please do a Halo 3 video on Tsavo Highway and mod and show what's on the far side of the map past where Truths ship is sitting. I always wanted to see the city on the other side behind Truths ship
Dude, I didn’t realize it was there, half the time, I forget how massive a Covenant carrier is, cause a UNSC frigate is by no means small
I hate dust
You mean sand,me too!

I did not realize that In Amber Clad was that small compared to the cruiser
I'm always amazed about the high detail on the space elevator or whatever it's called, I want to know more about it
Halo 3 ODST was my first Halo, my first 360 game and my favorite franchise, I finished more than 14 times, I'm in love with the characters, especially Mickey and Buck.
At the endding cutscene of Halo 2 misson Metropolis is when ODST takes place
I never saw it ever until now this video. You have brought peace to my life
I can't believe I didn't know this! I always figured she was obscured underneath the carrier and never bothered to look for her.
Unfortunately, it's not the right type of frigate. In Amber Clad is a Stalwart class, this is a Charon class like Forward Unto Dawn. Obviously, they weren't going to make an updated model of the Stalwart though, as it doesn't even appear at all in Halo 3.
what I find also a great detail, is the glowing crater which appears under the slip space bubble
This are the things that Made this campaign so unique, this intro is beautiful, full of details, i think that Is the reason why i felt this scene amazing, the movement of objects in this scene feels fluid, that means they really put effort in that render
Thanks for making this. Now I can prove to my friend that this is the same ship from Halo 2.
This isn’t an Easter egg but it is cool to know they used a detailed model
It technically is
Imagine if Bungie went even further and added a pelican inside the hanger with both Johnson and Master Chief's full models inside...
The most minute details is what makes the game so amazing
My guess is they made the model for another cut scene but the cut scene ended up getting scrapped & the shipped was just thrown into this one since they had already made it.
I heard from another vid comment section that if you have the rare dialogue skull activated during this scene, buck or one of the other ODST actually point out in amber clad is there
Now if we can get this attention to detail for the storyline for the next halo.
Returned to its era.
i didnt realise the connection between the two games at all until just a few years ago and i thought it was so cool :)
also that the rings you can see in halo 3 on like tsavo highway is the rings from the space elevator. i always wondered wtf thos where XD
In the book Halo Warfleet it says the mac cannon is stored in the lower boom of the in amber clad, but this cutscene clearly shows it being in the upper boom. Just an interesting detail/inconsistency I thought I'd mention.
I can’t help but think how much those damn CAS carriers cost and imagine their sheer size. Somebody needs to make a Cr mod or something specifically showing us what the real life scale of these ships are, the scale of the halo rings and the ark.
One minor difference though is that in halo 2 and in the canon the In Amber Clad is a stalwart class frigate but in the cutscene the type of frigate is a Charon class frigate which are the models used in halo 3
It's not just an easter egg, it's a different perspectove because Halo 3 ODST is during the events of Halo 2
But in the halo 2 cutscene in amber clad was trailing behind regrets ship and barely made it through the slip space portal. In this cutscene they are basically side by side and go through the portal at the same time
Go back and watch the original cutscene, not the Anniversary edition. IAC is right beside the Covenant ship as they enter the portal.
Speaking of attention to detail, In Amber Clad is a Stalwart class frigate, while the model they used for that cutscene is a Charon class.
That's incredible! Really loving all these ODST video's, Heed✊ keep up the good work!
All these years, never knew this Easter egg was there.
I don't know if you've ever noticed it, but the pod that crashes into yours is actually Mickey's. There's a few frames where you can see into the other pod and it uses Mickey's model as the other ODST.
I never noticed this! I’ve been playing ODST since it came out and always complained they didn’t add the Amber Clad in. I feel like a total idiot.
You should use this flycam to recam some of the cutscenes from other angles. That would be a little different than your usual content, but it would be really cool to see! I'd love to see The Storm or the final cutscenes from different angles
Really does show the detail they put into their games
Well ... the ship's model was used in halo 3 just 2 years before so it wasn't really hard for bungie to scoop it here...still an epic scene though.
I’m guessing that at some point in development the drop pods were closer to both ships
Hey here is another Easter Egg
The pod that smashes into the Rookie's Pod is Actually Mickeys
if you slow it down to 0.25 on 3:20 and pause it on just the right frame you'll actually see Mickey but just Vaguely.
(this is in the Halo 3 ODST: Prepare to Drop video)
you'll find this in the Halo 3 ODST: Prepare to Drop video
Here is my theory.
- To save disk space and probably time, they used an already-existing model (high poly) with multi-level LODs
- The serial number + name are separate interchangeable textures applied over the base textures
- It may have a LOD (level of detail) where the ship has very low poly count from far away but details close to the camera. So rendering the ship from far will not be render-heavy as up close.
The used a fully modeled ship because they knew this video could be a thing some day...
I don't know if I would consider this an easter egg but it's still really cool
When I first watched this cinematic this was all I was looking out to.
I knew it was there i could never find it!! Thanka for this :)
I never actually noticed the Easter egg even after knowing it was a scene shared with Halo 2
i just found out his intro is a windows start up noise
In the Halo 2A cutscene they shouldve shown the drop pods coming in from space during the starside intercept
That's not the actual flight path of In Amber Clad, at least not according to what it was in the original Halo 2 scene. In Halo 2, In Amber Clad flew under/between one of the space elevators support structures as it followed the covenant ship
Those puns were glorious.
