I love my sleeper daily. A 2016 VW MK7 GTi PP. it came with a factory differential, Golf R brakes. I’ve done suspension, solid rsb, Cobb Stage 2 with DP. It’s got every single bolt on available for the stock is20 snail. Cosmetically in and out it’s stock besides a drop and 235 BFG summer tires. It’s a hoot!
I dont like to brag but I drive a 04 camry with vvti v6 and stock everything.. But I love playing with subaru's and mustangs ON THE HIGHWAY theyre faster but they cant get away... I consider myself a modded driver

A great sleeper car in my opinion is the 2006-2007 mazdaspeed 6, yes i do own one myself, but many people don't even know this car exists. i didn't until i bought the only one that was for sale in mn (At the time). They are great cars, with the ford mustang ecoboost engine. you get AWD all the spooly noises and make good power for pretty cheap. just like any other car, it loves it constant oil changes and maintenance, but downpipe, exhaust, HPFP, and an intake, you're gonna be making some good power and having a lot of fun in any weather.
@@TheHelloImTom lol im not surprised. 7th gen to 9th gen accord 6+6 coupes are very capable of giving cars like infiniti g35 coupes (300hp+) a good workout from both a dig and a roll race. Just one thing though, I'd upgrade the cv joints as soon as possible if you launch your AV6+6. I used to know 3 people who snapped a joint after (3) 4k rpm clutch drops (2 of them have their drivers side snapped, 1 had his snapped on the passenger side (long axle) so be careful. i would say an '87 or '88 Pontiac Fiero GT is a really good sleeper, they look old, they seem old, but can be one hell of a ripper. you can fit anything from a turbo 4 banger to a supercharged LS7 mated to the stock 5 speed manual for lower power, or an F40 6-speed manual for MO POWAH BABEH, in that thing with not that much modification, im currently building a 450-500hp target engine to put in my '87 gt and all i need to do it is an ECU, wiring harness, a new engine mount, and fuel pump and BAM im roasting tires and smoking vettes like some of my friends do with a stock 3800SC
FINALLY someone else who appreciates the Dodge Magnum for what it was. It seems like people just forgot they even existed, which is strange considering just how many car people want wagon versions of everything now. Was it cheaply built? Yeah. Was it drony on the highway? Sure. Was it part of the Mopar build quality lottery? Heck yeah, my family knows that all too well when we had a Town & Country. BUT it's also a RWD wagon with a V8. So not so bad after all. :)
After upgrading fuel internals and slapping a bigger turbo they can get up there. Just aren't as light as really fast sleepers can take advantage of. I drive a G35 tho so I can't really call any other car heavy lmao.
Talks about the 92x, shows only footage of a 93 tubroX. The turboX is a great sleeper but it's a GM v6 and just not at all the car you were talking about.
the taurus sho and lincoln mkz (i think). they're heavy but have good aftermarket potential. tune, intake, exhaust, intercooler, bigger turbo and someone makes bigger injectors for them. a tune alone should put you around 400-450 hp

I had a 4 Door 2006 Pontiac G6 while Stationed in Savannah GA then Hawaii. (OEM G6 GXP body kit) with the LE5 ecotec 2.4L but swapped on the Cobalt SS LSJ supercharger. ZZP shop ported and polished head. COBALT SS Turbo intake and exhaust cams. F40 6 Speed Manual swapped transmission. Brembo brakes up front and SAAB 9-3x rear brakes. TSW Jarma 19inch wheels wrapped in NITTO 555. SAAB 9-3 Tien Coilovers. Custom made front and rear control arms with Rod ends with spherical bushings for suspension adjustments. 4 LS1 fuel injectors with return fuel system conversion. Made just over 300whp. Had lots of fun it. SOLD it in 2013 to a fellow soldier. He totalled it 2 weeks later on base missed a Yield sign on Wheeler Army Airfield.
The best modern sleeper is the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. 2.7l twin turbo V6 and AWD. With just a tune and literally nothing else mine does 0-60mph in 4.7s consistently on the stock summer street tires. I gapped an e85 FBO STI from a dig and from a 30 and 40 roll. The best part is that I got mine CPO, with 27k miles and literally every option for $20k. It has EVERYTHING. Heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, adaptive suspension, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise, sunroof, an 8” screen in the dash with CarPlay and an 11 speaker Sony sound system, and an enormous trunk. Seriously it’s the biggest trunk I’ve ever seen. I put in a box with 2x10” woofers and I still have a trunk the size of a normal sedan lol.
A Saabaru is a Saab 9-2x. The 9-3x is a gm epsilon platform vehicle so shares more in common with a Malibu or Pontiac G6 of that time. Also many of the 9-3s had the same turbo engine as the Cobalt SS so do have tuning potential.

Honestly anything with the GM supercharged 3.8L v6 is gonna be a good sleeper, because it's a 2000's GM car, who will ever think that's gonna be fast, and the engines made some good power from the factory (not sure how well they respond to tuning though)

The Saab 9-3 was actually built on GM's Epsilon platform (Shared with the Malibu, G6/G5, Cobalt, HHR, etc) and never came with a 2.5T option. Only engine options in the US market came with a 2.0T i4 (175hp B204L for small turbo, and 210hp B204R for big turbo), as well as the 2.8T V6 (255hp B284L for FWD, and 275hp B284R for XWD models).
BMW E30 with an LS1/3 swap, there is a kit for it, you double the HP while only adding on ~50 lbs to curb weight, if you build the motor you could go even higher
I have a first-gen CTS-V, and I've thought about how simple it would be to make it a sleeper. It looks pretty close already, but if you take the "V" badges off, swap the body cladding to the base stuff, and swap the hubs, brakes and wheels over to the base parts, nobody would suspect there's a Corvette engine under the hood. The V2 supercharger also fits on the engine with a pair of adapter plates, and fits under the hood if you cut out some of the support structure.
97-03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Gotta love that supercharger whine. Like many of the cars on this list, intake, exhaust and a tune you can have a kick ass ride for $5,000.
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure the Saab 9-3x was based on the same GM platform as an Opel Vectra, the 9-2x was the Saabru and was basically a face swapped Imprezza.
What about the late 90s/early 2000s mercedes c230K ik you mentioned the amg but these arent part of the amg line up and make about 200 hp stock with the supercharged 1.8 you can do a pulley swap and exhaust/tune and they’re fun cars
1st gen Audi S4 or S6, no one expects to get walked by what looks like a 100 or early A6 lol. They look identical aside from the black trim on the bumpers and wider front fenders. They can make power really easily, even with stupidly high miles (as most of them do have a lot of miles). A set of rods, a bigger Bolton turbo, clutch, drop in fuel system upgrades and a modified original ECU can set you up for 6-800hp pretty easily.
3.0L Lincoln mkz, Ford Taurus sho, Ford Fusion sport 2.7L are all fast and fairly reliable and affordable. In a few more years when there is more aftermarket and they depreciate more they will be an amazing bang for your buck.
Even though you botched that Saab part, I'm glad you gave them love. The 2.8t motor is a beast. With just a tune it becomes an absolute torque monster.
I'm thinking of tuning a Toyota auris 2.2 tr180. They're inconspicuous and quite nippy as standard. Not going to do anything cosmetic since its going to be a sleeper. Going to fit a 3 inch exhaust, manifold, bigger injectors and a fuel pump if the original isn't powerful enough for the injectors, bigger intercooler, coilovers, discs and pads upgrade, some nice sticky tyres and a remap should do it.
J Series Honda/Acura. Whether it’s the accord, tl, cl, cl type s, their are some good N/A V6 builds out there that are not insanely fast but definitely sleeper status. Some people change their build from N/A and make it supercharged/turbocharged but that’s usually more expensive and makes the car less reliable.
Honestly, my hybrid (not a Prius) is actaully very quick and fast. It's also low and has a good suspension setup and it has an electronically controlled lsd so no torque steer. Since it shares a common engine with Kia, there's aftermarket for it.
I own a Saab 9-5 aero and I can say that people think it's slow but when I really let in on it the thing is fast. especially since I plan on adding a few bits to make it better.
You're wrong about the 9-3 aero. The 9-2 aero is the Saabaru. The 9-3 aero is a six cylinder turbo with lots of untapped power. But you are right, they're slept on.

You forgot the Volvo S80 t6. That’s a factory twin turbo 6 cylinder in a unassuming sedan chassis. They did have weaker transmissions but after building the trans you can swap to a single turbo and get 600+hp with stock internals because they have forged crank and rods (I don’t remember if it has the pistons as well because that may have been only for certain later year t6 engines) and the t6 models are dirt cheap now because of the transmissions. So if you take that GM 4 speed and upgrade it then you can have like 320hp with a tune + exhaust and it hauls. If you are willing to do transmission work then you can have a pretty fast sleeper for 800$ (before transmission work) because the early t6 models have depreciated a lot. I drive a lower HP non turbo 5 cylinder and it’s a lot of comfort for not a lot of money. (They also have turbo 5 cylinders with awd available if you don’t want the 6 cylinder model)
Yeah- I'm back- and I'm spouting that G37 love again. The sedan specifically- they come stock with 330hp (270-280whp) right from the factory and some can be picked up for 4k-7k (more for lower miles) and for about 2500-3000 (intake, exhaust, test pipes, tune) you can get a high revving V6 NA pushing 320ish whp and they handle fantastic. Also have to mention the Q50 now because of that 3.0TT. Intake exhaust and tune on that and your pushing around 500hp
hell yeah, someone mentioned the volvo v70r! that's the car I want next. 300hp in a turbo 5 cyl, awd, and if you really really look you can find it in a manual.

A Saabaru is a Saab 9-2x. The 9-3x is a gm epsilon platform vehicle so shares more in common with a Malibu or Pontiac G6 of that time. Also many of the 9-3s had the same turbo engine as the Cobalt SS so do have tuning potential.

Honestly anything with the GM supercharged 3.8L v6 is gonna be a good sleeper, because it's a 2000's GM car, who will ever think that's gonna be fast, and the engines made some good power from the factory (not sure how well they respond to tuning though)
As a owner of a 09 Volvo C30 T5 r design is a sleeper on the outside but on the inside it’s a whole different look

The Saab 9-3 was actually built on GM's Epsilon platform (Shared with the Malibu, G6/G5, Cobalt, HHR, etc) and never came with a 2.5T option. Only engine options in the US market came with a 2.0T i4 (175hp B204L for small turbo, and 210hp B204R for big turbo), as well as the 2.8T V6 (255hp B284L for FWD, and 275hp B284R for XWD models).
The only Subaru-based Saab was the Saab 9-2, which was a rebadged Subaru Impreza wagon
BMW E30 with an LS1/3 swap, there is a kit for it, you double the HP while only adding on ~50 lbs to curb weight, if you build the motor you could go even higher
If you swap a BMW stay with a BMW engine, get a s62 or a S54 with turbos.
I have a first-gen CTS-V, and I've thought about how simple it would be to make it a sleeper. It looks pretty close already, but if you take the "V" badges off, swap the body cladding to the base stuff, and swap the hubs, brakes and wheels over to the base parts, nobody would suspect there's a Corvette engine under the hood. The V2 supercharger also fits on the engine with a pair of adapter plates, and fits under the hood if you cut out some of the support structure.
I have a 2000s Volvo station wagon and it has a v10 from a r8 in in it pretty fun
So for sleepers a s10 with sbc or simple 4.8 or 5.3l swap for ls side swaps

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure the Saab 9-3x was based on the same GM platform as an Opel Vectra, the 9-2x was the Saabru and was basically a face swapped Imprezza.
What about the late 90s/early 2000s mercedes c230K ik you mentioned the amg but these arent part of the amg line up and make about 200 hp stock with the supercharged 1.8 you can do a pulley swap and exhaust/tune and they’re fun cars

1st gen Audi S4 or S6, no one expects to get walked by what looks like a 100 or early A6 lol. They look identical aside from the black trim on the bumpers and wider front fenders. They can make power really easily, even with stupidly high miles (as most of them do have a lot of miles). A set of rods, a bigger Bolton turbo, clutch, drop in fuel system upgrades and a modified original ECU can set you up for 6-800hp pretty easily.
3.0L Lincoln mkz, Ford Taurus sho, Ford Fusion sport 2.7L are all fast and fairly reliable and affordable. In a few more years when there is more aftermarket and they depreciate more they will be an amazing bang for your buck.
Even though you botched that Saab part, I'm glad you gave them love. The 2.8t motor is a beast. With just a tune it becomes an absolute torque monster.
I'm thinking of tuning a Toyota auris 2.2 tr180. They're inconspicuous and quite nippy as standard. Not going to do anything cosmetic since its going to be a sleeper. Going to fit a 3 inch exhaust, manifold, bigger injectors and a fuel pump if the original isn't powerful enough for the injectors, bigger intercooler, coilovers, discs and pads upgrade, some nice sticky tyres and a remap should do it.

I still think an 04 - 07 subaru forester xt is a great sleeper! 0-100 in 6.4 seconds and the mods you can do to it are almost unlimited!
They rate it at 210hp but I honestly think it's more.....
J Series Honda/Acura. Whether it’s the accord, tl, cl, cl type s, their are some good N/A V6 builds out there that are not insanely fast but definitely sleeper status. Some people change their build from N/A and make it supercharged/turbocharged but that’s usually more expensive and makes the car less reliable.

Honestly, my hybrid (not a Prius) is actaully very quick and fast. It's also low and has a good suspension setup and it has an electronically controlled lsd so no torque steer. Since it shares a common engine with Kia, there's aftermarket for it.

I own a Saab 9-5 aero and I can say that people think it's slow but when I really let in on it the thing is fast. especially since I plan on adding a few bits to make it better.

You forgot the Volvo S80 t6. That’s a factory twin turbo 6 cylinder in a unassuming sedan chassis. They did have weaker transmissions but after building the trans you can swap to a single turbo and get 600+hp with stock internals because they have forged crank and rods (I don’t remember if it has the pistons as well because that may have been only for certain later year t6 engines) and the t6 models are dirt cheap now because of the transmissions. So if you take that GM 4 speed and upgrade it then you can have like 320hp with a tune + exhaust and it hauls. If you are willing to do transmission work then you can have a pretty fast sleeper for 800$ (before transmission work) because the early t6 models have depreciated a lot. I drive a lower HP non turbo 5 cylinder and it’s a lot of comfort for not a lot of money. (They also have turbo 5 cylinders with awd available if you don’t want the 6 cylinder model)
Yeah- I'm back- and I'm spouting that G37 love again. The sedan specifically- they come stock with 330hp (270-280whp) right from the factory and some can be picked up for 4k-7k (more for lower miles) and for about 2500-3000 (intake, exhaust, test pipes, tune) you can get a high revving V6 NA pushing 320ish whp and they handle fantastic. Also have to mention the Q50 now because of that 3.0TT. Intake exhaust and tune on that and your pushing around 500hp
